Blu (2000)

A powdery, almost talky fresh fragrance based on initial citrus-ginger accord not so prominent as in Blu pour Homme but structured as the backbone of a fragrance that in a while becomes a soapy-musky-floral very feminine and clean. This one lacks the smoked touch of the masculine version and exalts floral notes and an hint of taste. Pleasant but unimportant and a bit synthetic.

A fresh, citrus/ginger scent which smells quite lovely for about 5 minutes, then becomes a bit too aqua-synthetic for my taste. Would be nicer on a man.

A floral woody musk, Blu is one of the few instances where the feminine original is less forceful and rich than its masculine counterpart. Sure, perfumer Morillas still makes use of a decent ginger note to give it bite...but the ginger is less brash than in Blu homme, and is surrounded by more delicate cohorts such as petite acacia and wisteria notes, creating a light powdery floral accord with a two-toothed bite of raspy ginger to make it distinctive. The base is vanilla and musk rendered the Bulgari way, i.e. L.I.T.E. light.

Blu is basically a ginger fragrance surrounded by a floral landscape..a ginger study by Morillas, a feminine portrait of this aggressive note, and a success because it is easy to wear. Me? I prefer the no-holds-barred rich tobacco-ginger-doughbread aroma of Blu homme, but I can understand why it could be too much for some. Blu will be less divisive and more wearable for men and women alike. But me likes some Raaawrrr.

I barely smell the ginger in this one – I get a big floral accord that is dominated by wisteria and carries a powdery background. It reminds me of Bulgari Blu for men without the ginger, and in that sense, I much prefer this except that this one is very feminine with its powdery florals. Besides boasting florals, the fragrance’s powder is white musky and vanilla, and it smells to me like a feminine talcum powder. It’s a linear fragrance with little variations except that it gets more powdery as it progresses.

If it weren’t for the fact that I am used to Bulgari Blu for Men, I think I would be impressed by this fragrance and call it a wonderful feminine floral / spice offering. But I do own the men’s version and I am aware of how deceivingly strong that similar scent is to this and how it is so easy to grow to dislike it. I guess my prejudice makes my vote on Bulgari Blu EDP a neutral.

While this is a bit fresher, I still prefer the more sophisticated BLU NOTTE version over this. I also like the men's version of BLU more than the women's..... I suppose the women's is a bit too sweet-floral for my taste. It's not a bad scent, but I don't feel the need to also own this BLU.

Sprayed this on one day at my local Kohls and wandered around with it on my wrist.

It starts out very sweet and fresh smelling - all citrus and aqua notes, but the drydown about two hours later disappointed me. The clean, fruity opening that made me smile died into something plasticity and artificial that I had to scrub off.

I can definitely see how it could "work" on someone who isn't me, but I'll have to give it a neutral.
