It was winter, 1994. I was an undergrad in Leeds, UK. Throughout that one hour in the lecture theatre, I could not for the life of me concentrate on whatever was being taught. All I could think of was "What a heavenly scent! Who's wearing it?" It was mysterious yet decidedly sensuous and the scent seemed to play a hide-and-seek game with my senses. Now I seldom approach women I do not know, but somehow I felt compelled to ask the pretty girl seated in front of me.
"I'm sorry but I just had to ask. Are you the one wearing that heavenly scent?"
She smiled and replied, "Yes. It's called Obsession."

OBSESSION. How apt indeed.

A heady, raw, sharp, fruity-sweet oriental, headache inducing with a strong sillage. This one does not suit my taste.

In my opinion, Obsession is one of the all-time best American fragrances ever created! I don't particularly jump out of my skin for most other Calvin Klein scents...but this one is truly a jewel! It is the essence of 1985 and has captured that special place in time the way no other fragrance possibly could. I remember wearing it faithfully throughout the later 1980's. It always garnered compliments from men whenever I wore it! It just so happens my mother fell in love with Obsession too! Actually, she wore it exclusively for about 15 years! Her signature scents over the years have been Tabu, Ciara, Charlie (original) and - Obsession. If it didn't have such a dated place in my mind, I might spritz some on today. It's quite good, especially for a designer scent.

I waited for its promiscuity to die down. And I love it. I smell vanilla and that always smells like love and happiness - yes, like Shalimar - . Yes, I feel cheap ... easy. But I love it.

I avoided Obsession for years because 1) Its initial popularity and the clouds of it you encountered when it first came out and 2) I don't want to wear a perfume that's listed in the DSMIV. However, I tried it again today and find it a comfortable scent reminiscent of Emeraude or Shalimar. That said, I don't think it's quite as good as either of those fragrances and while, not expensive, Emeraude is even cheaper, and for both the fragrance and the money, I'd choose the Coty fragrance, but I wouldn't throw this one out!
