The 'green' one from this line. There's really not much sillage or longevity, and it fails to offer anything unique for the hefty price tag. Honestly, the money would be much better spent on a bunch of high-quality (but reasonably priced) niche scents...

My first impression was that I received the 1872 for women. One spray and I was enveloped in a cloud of floral essence. I'm glad I only sprayed once because I was on my way to my mechanics shop...smelling like I had just hugged my mother was the only excuse I could think of before I walked in and went directly to the hand cleaner and scrubbed it off.

Now knowing what to expect, I tried it again later that day, I still get very heavy floral (rose and lily) and a slight sage-like note, but the mandarin is completely absent as is the pepper. The longevity was pretty good for a single spray and the dry-down did finally reveal some pepper notes, but the floral never always the lead in the performance.

I would highly recommend this as a feminine fragrance and I'll bet my daughter will love it. If you prefer a more masculine perfume, CC X is a much better initiation to Clive Christian. I'd give 1872 two thumbs up if I could because of it's character, composition and sophistication, but it's just not something I could wear.

I don't like this one at all. It is somewhat warm, but what others call "richness" I call "butteriness." For some, the notes blend together to give relaxation, but the mixture on me smells cloying, thick, and yet strangely short lived. All in all, not something I'd spend even 1/5 of what it costs. If you want warm and rich, buy 3 bottles of Patchouli Patch instead.

One of the mysteries of the fragrance business is how a perfumer can take the same elements others use and achieve startling results that differentiate his product from those of others. There is nothing here that others haven't used or are not now using to make mens' fragrances that seem a lot alike, and yet 1872 distinguishes itself by clearly communicating a sense of luxury and calm that is almost hard to imagine from these humble elements. Bottom line: this is an incredibly sophisticated, masculinely beautiful and subtle fragrance that exudes style and well-being.

Clive Christian is an interior designer who makes incredibly expensive high quality kitchens, among other things, and this fragrance epitomizes his view of the world as it should be. He must be an incredible perfectionist. I am not sure I would want to know him.

Goes on very feminine -- at least on my skin. Smells at first like a hybrid of Estee Lauder's Aliage and Private Collection, believe it or not. (At least on me, that is.) You can definitely smell the petitgrain for the first 20 minutes at least -- very sweet.

Dries down to a beautiful, deep muskiness -- hard to describe. (Smells little like it did going on.) Sadly, almost no longevity on me. Wouldn't care so much were it not almost $300.00 USD for a 1.7 oz. bottle.

Much as I like it, it WON'T be on my Christmas list -- that same money would buy me three bottles of Havana Reserva, or three (tester) bottles of Bois de Portugal.

Thumbs up, but only from a purely critical point of view.

Absolutely wonderful scent; rich and gentlemanly. But it only last two hours on me :( Curse my skin.
