Not terrible, but largely uninspired though. AdG is a typical aquatic with all the usual hallmarks. I do find this more complex and smoother than Cool Water. I suppose every guy under 30 ought to have one aquatic in his collection since the media tells women that this is how guys are supposed to smell. And if you have to have a fruity aquatic, this is the one to get (or Creed Millesime Imperial if you want to splurge for top notch). AdG is relatively cheap but has poor sillage and poor longevity. But hey, everyone else in America is wearing it, so why not?

Formulated by nose Albert Morillas, Aqua di Gio homme (AdG) is Armani Parfums biggest cash cow and one of the progenitors of the fruity aquatic genre. Much has been written about its ubiquitous presence in hang out spots all over the world, but its hard to deny that its a well made fragrance. Inspired by Giorgio Armani's vacations in the isle of Pantelleria, the aim was to evoke "the voluptuous rush of wind and water, brilliantly combining sweet and salty flavors, with the bittersweet power of of sea water on sun-drenched skin."

The opening hesperidic blast is pleasant and invigorating, and soon after the salty-floral-fruity heart appears. Things are kept light and pleasant, with hedione (synthetic jasmine) lending a pleasant floral aroma, a bouquet of fruits (melon, etc) gushing in the accord, and a very well integrated aquatic note imparting a slightly salty tinge. There's also a spice accord hidden in there somewhere...if you smell closely enough you can detect a coriander note warming up the proceedings. The whole heart notes phase is expertly balanced with none of the various facets feeling out of place. It is however rather fleeting and within an hour or two the woody-musky base rears its ugly formulated head (AdG used to feature a better musk and cedar note in its hey day).

Yes its ubiquitous...yes its nothing outstanding (it ain't 1996 anymore)...yes there are a zillion other fruity aquatics on the market...and yes it has been done better before (1995s Creed Millesime Imperial). But credit is due to AdG for being one of the early fruity-aquatic trailblazers, and for opening up the genre for other fast-followers (it also outsells Imperial by quite a mile). And despite the inferior reformulated base, its still smells good. Like it or not you will still be seeing AdG ads in Vogue or Forbes 5 years from now..

Armani Acqua di Gio pour Homme

Acqua di Gio, the 1996 scent created for Giorgio Armani, is the most popular scent in terms of sales in the world as of 2008. Popularity and sales do not automatically confirm greatness on any artistic endeavor. Conversely those attributes shouldn't be made to seen as detriments, either. Acqua di Gio is popular for a reason and that reason, I think, is Wonder Bread. I love bread of all kinds, a fresh-baked croissant, a crunchy baguette, savory whole grain loaf, you get the idea. If you put down a jar of crunchy peanut butter and grape jelly and ask me what bread I want it on, I'm going to choose Wonder Bread. Wonder Bread just tastes great in that situation. I really like the other breads I mentioned, more, but for a good old PB&J I'm going to choose Wonder Bread. Acqua di Gio falls in the same category. It isn't my favorite fresh scent out there in fact it probably doesn't crack my top 20, although that's probably close. Yet, on a sunny summer day there are just days I want to wear Acqua di Gio for all of the things it does right. The one thing Acqua di Gio gets very right is it is composed in a light style which keeps it from ever becoming cloying or heavy on me. Right from the beginning the lightness of touch is evident as a breeze of jasmine on top of other florals lead this into a fruity heart paired with a very typical aquatic heart. This would be the ideal description of many feminine fruity florals but because Acqua di Gio keeps its composition so muted this works well as a masculine and if someone is getting nervous about wearing a fruity floral the base is full of strong he-man accords. Starting with cedar followed by patchouli and a sheer white musk. Acqua di Gio is that very easy-to-wear scent that owes its popularity to that quality, I think. There is nothing challenging here but there is also nothing to make one want to turn away either. As many scents in this class Acqua di Gio has average longevity and a decent amount of projection. Acqua di Gio is perfect for that sunny day I'm in the mood for a little PB&J on Wonder Bread.

I guess if one cologne had to be overdone, this isn't a bad one for it to be... Way too light for me, Lemony, can barely smell anything upon spraying, and after 15 minutes, have to literally inhale my wrists to get anything.... I mean yeah if you don't want to overpower or offend anyone, this is probably the best cologne, but be prepared to respray often if you want to smell it.

This scent is ridiculously good. Although everyone and his brother has or does wear it, the ladies go crazy for it. We all want our individuality, of course, but I can't help but spray this one on here and there before going out. The ladies know it by name, and don't care if theres 10 other guys in the bar wearing the same thing, as long as they can smell it on you.

Magaluf 1998!!!! Great Scent!! Freshest fragrance you can buy but at 29 I think i've outgrown this. More suited for teens to early 20s. Still love this everytime I smell this though!

Good stuff. Gets lots of compliments, too. It's rather light, which is something I love. Not heavy or overbearing, just a light scent which is pretty fresh smelling. I get tons of compliments when I wear this stuff. The top notes in particular are amazing, and when it gets down to the base notes, a less impressive but still good scent. A keeper in my opinion. Only bad thing I can name is the fact that it's so darn popular.

I love this fragrance. It's incredible. It's fresh but not too fresh, it's decidedly masculine but not over the top so. It's aquatic, very charming, lasts for a decently long while. It's the first fragrance I ever invested in and I don't regret it. Truth be told, it is really popular. But for a good reason - it's awesome!

Yes.... here it is, the fruity-aquatic that spawned countless smell-alikes. Its massively popular and thats for a good reason: I don't know of a single person that would be offended by this. Thats the case with most aquatics so houses pump these out every few years. Commonly blamed for spawning a new bland genre along with Cool Water and it is true to a good extent. Regardless, if this weren't so popular and if there wern't so many "copies" of it, or better yet, had a French name to it, it would be no doubt be very highly regarded here. The benchmark for all aquatics to be compared to. Not very masculine at all and is VERY recognizable.

Not bad, it's popular for a reason, I even wore a bottle of it before really getting into fragrances. Compliment getter.

Although after having more experience with other fragrances, I'm not planning on buying a new bottle. It's over-exposed, a bit boring (could use some more drama) and I feel it's missing some fullness and smells a bit empty. Like a U-curve if that makes some sense.

Thumbs up because it's an appealing scent, and I initally like(d) the way it smells, although I won't wear it anymore.

A fragrance for men who want to wear fragrance but don't want to smell as if they are wearing a fragrance. (Are you taking notes?)

To my nose, it smells like a watered down version of Geir. I think that if Geir Ness had wanted to make a light, fraiche, pseudo acquatic, green colored version of Geir for the summer--and screwed it up by being cheap, it would smell somewhat like this.

Mild stuff. Remember to pronounce it correctly. Gio should sound like Joe. Not Gee-oh.

It's just too bland to give it a thumbs down. Neutered and Neutral.

My daughter's 20 year old (ex)boyfriend used to wear this. He used to strut around all cocky and whatnot...leaving me with an obviously bad impression! I've since put that image to rest and returned to this fragrance once again. It is wonderfully wearable. Acqua di Gio is uplifting & fresh. The notes in this frag are intriguing for a male marketed designer scent, and it's success in sales is proof that it pays to produce pleasing quality fragrance. Despite the neigh-sayers, I give it an enthusiastic thumbs up!

Sure this is overly common, but it is not as bad as many perceive. Compared to Bulgari Aqua (often so), this is very "thin", but it has very nice citrus notes that the former lacks. I find this very wearable and versatile. Suited best for casual/leisure use. I believe many scents are similar after ADG.

I normally would have steered clear of this because it's way too common & popular. However I received a free sample and wore it to work recently. At first sniff it smelled generic, but after the drydown I am forced to admit it is a great aquatic scent with nice longevity & sillage. Very fresh and clean. I must note I only put 2 sprays on my wrist and could smell it for several hours, and I'm not talking about smelling my wrist at close range. That's impressive considering how many colognes are out there you can spray all over you and the scent is gone in 2 hours.

The main problem with this is the "cool" and "unique" factors aren't there and even teenagers have this (even some kids I overheard sample it said all their friends have it). If you can get past that, and want something most people will like or find inoffensive, then grab a bottle.

Well, there wouldn’t be so many negative comments if it weren’t so popular. Personally, I think it’s a nice fragrance with plenty enough good qualities: It’s well made, competently structured… has the right amount of sillage and has good longevity. Its aquatics are fresh, light, clean and they don’t demand a lot of care in application. Acqua di Gio is easy to wear, and it’s non-irritating to others except to those who can’t understand how this “mediocrity” achieved so much success. Oh, it has flaws, too: It’s not very dramatic, it’s ubiquitous, and as with many things Armani, it’s too expensive for what it delivers. Its popularity has made it a classic and thirty years from now people will probably be saying, “Now THERE was a fragrance! They just don’t make them like Acqua di Gio anymore.” (Edit of 12 January 2006 review.)

Great smell.. its only downfall is its popularity. However, its popularity is starting to go down with newer fragrance (but based around this type of smell) so keep your bottle so when the next popular fragrance is worn by all, then its you who could be the different one.

I amazed that one one has mentioned how grassy this smells. But its really a good thing, in this case. Its fresh, un offensive, and still comes off a bit warm somehow. The color of the bottle is perfect. Its an aquatic scent for sure, but you don't think of the color blue when you smell. Silver, and almost a light green are perfect. If you could ever smell those colors, this would be it. Too bad everyone is the US wears this. (I believe its the highest selling cologne in America for 7 years running...)

This is a great smell for whenever I have to say it is inexpensive which is attractive to me great for summer good aquatic!

Super popular scent. Fresh, springtime. Starts very flowery, I smell jasmine, then become citrus, and maybe I do pick up something woody or musky.

Horrific. I don't get how this foul stench is a best seller. Is it based on trend? Those who pimped it out are having the last laugh. This is black flag bug spray with a cantaloupe mashed into the smell before it quickly dies off. I actually snicker when I get a gush of this aroma in any club setting. Dare to look for a manly smell and the women will go nuts over it. Never tell her or anyone what the scent is that you are wearing once you find that masculine smell. Let the wanna be's continue to smell like bug repellent.

I got a little scared of buying it when I saw the price. But much to my enjoyment, it is worth all of the hype..

Acqua di Giò pour Homme. Quite good summer fragrance . But it is no more... Such it is a lot of.

When I first wore this, the first bundle of compliments I received were "ADG? My sister's boyfriend where's that", "Oh yeah that's ADG you're wearing? I have that to!" and "You smell just like my brother" so it is true, EVERYONE has this for some reason. It's good, not great. The sour notes on top aren't that pleasant but when it dries down you get a sweet floral accord. Lasts for about 4 hours, just an average scent. Highly suggest it in the summer because that's when it smells the sweetest!

This is a good citrusy scent, with good sillage and great longivity! But i think it's better for young men,less then 20 years old. That´s my opinion... There's nothing here so masculine, but it isn´t a offensive scent. Another bad of it, is the fact ADG is out there, everywhere, in many men,(by the way, like L'eau d'Issey too). So, you wont have exclusivity wearing this... You'll be just another man wearing ADG.For that, i would say its a good scent...but i wont wear it!

Smells goob but way too many people wear it. I like Perry Ellis 360 red much better, it is similar to AdG but different at the same time. 360 red seems to be more fruity and lasts way longer and isnt nearly as overbearing as AdG

I wouldn't dare risk a complex review. I find it a pleasant,
"all purpose" cologne, with good top notes and no disasters
as it winds down.

No, not challenging, but safe and fresh. I don't know if it helps,
but I hate Zizanie and love Yatagan. Acqua di Gio is not so
assertive and harsh (in a good way) as Yatagan, and not so
repellent as Zizanie (which I first tried when in Europe as a
student in 1951).

My husband bought this at a department store, I didn't care for it ( I wanted him to buy Guerlain Heritage,which I bought for him later on,and yes, he's in his 30s). Of all his fragrances this is the one that I say I don't like, but the funny thing is, when he gets home from work in the early evening and I smell him, I bury my nose on his neck and inhale deeply.It's a joke between us because I always ask him what's he is wearing,maybe hoping it will be something else, but no, it's Acqua di Gio. I love the drydown, but don't care for the initial notes.

I don't know how they pulled this one off without citrus notes. My only problem with it is that it has become so common that it does not feel special any more. I bet it would drive me crazy if I were a perfumer to try to come up with something so good, yet retain its uniqueness. Nevertheless, it's a great frag. Worth owning.

It’s not bad but I definitely do not like it as much as many others of these mega-super selling successes.

Smooth fresh scent with interesting, slightly sour watermelon tone. Has very subtle herbaceous tinge to it with oceanic atmosphere.

Basically I’m not that surprised why this is such a hit among ladies.

No good. It's tinny and synthetic to me. Clearly many people like it, but I really can't find the love for it. It's just thin, generic stuff to me.

Very Light, not overpowering nor too strong. Good for casual and day wear. Nice pleasant smell.

Best modern mainstream aquatic fragrance, hands down. It's fresh, sensual and masculine. Very nice. It smells like fresh ice tea to me.

I'm unable to wear it, because I smell it all the time around me. Somehow it's offputing to smell something that is supposed to be individual everywhere.

It would be difficult to find a fragrance that polarizes opinion in the way that AdG does. Having tried this with an open mind, and being as objective as possible,it is clear that it does not deserve it's place at either end of the critical spectrum. It is a decent, if unsophisticated aqua fragrance, that seems to have been damned for it's ubiquity. Personally, I take a different view, and am appreciative of it's place at the top of the charts. This makes it so much easier for those of us who favour something else to be elevated above the humdrum.

I really like this fragrance. It is definitely a classic. It's not too strong even if you put too much on and it's very smooth. After the drydown it is a very masculine scent. This is a good fragrance for sporty people and it is good for a casual time. Everybody and their mother uses this cologne, but chicks still like it.

This is the Axe of men's fragrances. It's everywhere, and it's affordable. You father probably has it, your brother, your friend, your enemy. It's a fine fragrance but don't expect to feel unique while wearing it.

I hated this a few years back, then someone gave it as a gift to me, now ill use it once every two weeks or so. Its smells like lemony aluminum. I get a Pledge scent from this. If you like Pledge, then you'll love this. But I do like it somehow. I dont know how.

Stunning fragrance, beauitful smell when it heats up, and everybody around you smells it and loves it!

If it's a top-seller, it should be a good fragrance. I dunno, I find this fitting for sporty wear or some physical activities. I don't find it romantic. It's masculinity in a bottle. The top is great but the drydown is a little questionable for me. Very good sillage and stays long on my skin.

Very citrusy, cucumbery, and peppery too, very versatile and easy to wear scent

The first I owned and No. 1 perfume in my collection. One of the weirdest comments I had was when a colleague commented the scent smelled of wine! The fresh and sharp top notes perk me up whilst dressing to go to work. I decided on this after spraying a couple of fragrances before a flight and smelling them again after the flight. Will definitely get another bottle after the present one finishes.

The two years I worked at a fragrance counter I hated this, mostly because I hate colognes that people buy by word of mouth, or because so and so wears it. Grow up, branch out; seriously. (That, and I was previously only one to wear colognes of the Oriental variety; my girl only drools when I wear citrus/fresh/aquatic scents--the things you do for the love of a woman)

However, once I finally tried it (reluctantly, after almost two years of finding nothing from the Armani line had worked for me, and that this was the only one I hadn't tried), I came to see what all the hoop-la was about.

Not original, by any means, but still a damn good cologne--perhaps if you're a cologne virgin. I'm reminded of Polo Blue when I wear this, but unlike Lauren's creation, that of Armani lasts considerably longer which earns brownie points in my book.

This is the Honda of colognes: everyone has it--with good reason.

My all time favourite mens fragrance. Highly deserving of its 'classic' status.
Although I am no connoisseur, I feel this is much more than just an 'aqua'. It has warmth, depth and a luxurious quality.
For me, this always evokes the sensation of sitting in an Aston Martin, with its beautiful hand crafted leather upholstery and state of the art technology. A timeless blend of traditional and modern elements.

The majority of Armani's clothing has the initials AJ or Armani plastered all over it -- why do that -- it's so cheesy. I imagine people who buy clothes that are a walking advertisement for the designer, wear ADG also. I love Armani suits and would like to own several, but the House just can't hack it with perfumery - be honest.
Come on -- let's evolve. Stop buying this.

This is perhaps the only aquatic I love. It starts out as a fresh, kind of lemony citrus with the woods as a supporting act. I think because there are other elements such as the woods that this fragrance is well balanced and has a substantially greater longevity that other citrus or water scents. You have to be oblivious to it's popularity and just wear it for the great scent that it is. It is perfect for any time of year or any occasion. It like slipping on something very comfortable. I use to associate with the sour note philosophy but lately I don't get it. I bought the huge 6.7 oz bottle of it from a fresh shipment into the store and my bottle is great. All fresh and no sour notes to speak of. The shower gel and deodorant are wonderful products and dare I say that ADG shower gel may be among the best I have used.

This doesn't work very well with cold weather, according to my nose, and I don't feel like spraying my whole body with it. I want to smell myself and the frag a bit once in a while without having to sniff like a maniac... Like to wear it indoors at home sometimes, in these colder months here... Its fresh and clean. I can also understand reviews here saying it makes them feel sick-ly, for me it doesnt get near that point, tough its not ultra-light to me, it has some character, can make me a bit dizzy but thats because I keep smelling my wrists.

You gotta give credit where credit is due. This stuff will make a troll smell good to a woman. If it had longevity, it would be even better. 4 stars.

It's my first perfume. To me, it's a kind of memory. Moist, warm, and a little bit intoxicating memory. Fit for the cold weather. But some of my friends complained that it's too strong. I dont know why....

2nd best Armani scent. Only reason I wouldn't wear is because everyone and their mother wears this.

Wow, so many negative reviews for a fragrance that so many people seem to like!

It's a nice, light, citrusy fragrance with some marine notes. Sillage may not rival some of the more powerful scents like Creed Bois du Portugal, but, it is decent. Lasts long enough on my skin - maybe 8 hours, and remains fairly consistent over time. IMO, it's pretty straightforward, and a nice fragrance that will get you some compliments.

Likely NOT endorsed by the "critics" mostly because it is so common, but, loved by "the masses" because it is good.

Wow... this smells like every bottle of body wash on the market. I know... it came first so it isn't to blame.

I chuckled when I read that it has a persimmon note. My guess is that they were just hoping few people had encountered a persimmon frequently enough to distinguish it's scent (they are not common in America, I don't know about the rest of the world). It smells like "water," watermelon, and an afterthought of mild soap.

It smells fine. I am certainly not sent into raptures by it's scent, but it is not offensive. This is an extremely light and boring fragrance, with weak longevity and decent sillage (assuming you spray enough so other people recognize that they aren't just smelling body wash).

To my opinion one of the best if not the best scent related with water.
Its very fresh,masculine beside the flowery(roses?) notes its a perfect summer,
day and maybe sports (to me) scent.In conclusion I recommend it and as long as
long lasting...it's not like the Emporio series even Code lasts shorter.

I have never understood the popularity of this cologne. It smells cheap and musty. I am reminded of the stench of the odious task I did with love; changing the litter in my cat's litter box. It has spawned many imitators, all as awful as the original.

Marine/aquatic fragrances comprise the smallest part of my collection, and while Acqua was once one of my perceived favorites, I quickly became bored of it. The first few times I wore it, I was intrigued by the persimmon note, which I had never smelled in a fragrance before. However, after more and more wearings, I found that in the drydown things began to take on a sour fruity smell. Its longevity is also subpar; even with multiple sprays, it lasts around 4 hours and then disappears entirely. Not to mention that everyone and their uncle wears this and douse themselves in it so liberally that you can pick it out on a crowded sidewalk! Once I started making the transition over to niche and added Millesime Imperial to my wardrobe as my new aquatic (and a far better one at that), I quickly got rid of the ubiquitous Acqua di Gio.

There is something more emasculating about this cologne than even so-called sweet scents. It remains for me ungrounded... like so much of what is now called "culture." But it is not so much masculine or femine here. I consider AdG an insincere scent, ergo it's popularity? One I don't have to think about? After all, there's that close-up black and white photograph...

No. It is not "overrrated." It is overpurchased.

I too do not consider it an "aquatic" but more like the floral vapor state bees or birds experience on a hot day after the rain.

If this is popular especially with young ladies, it enables them to have sex while maintainiing the delusion on some level that they have never known a man or perhaps, on another level, that they have been with a close female friend.

Hmmmmmmmm watery notes & roses. I am not a fan of roses. After all they dont smell pleasent.. This stuff just does not set well with me. It has a smell that im not fond of. Yes the longevity is good. Yet the smell is something i can live without. The bottle is plain & ugly. No creativity there. I suppose it is 1 of the better scents from armani. Then again im not a fan of this house.

Its an ok scent. Very, very easily recognizable. Lasts for max of about 2 hours on my skin with generous application. I think the only way I can get better longevity out of this one would be to use the after shave...but even then it only adds maybe two more hours of longevity.
I liked this when I was younger and inexperienced in the fragrance world. Not my go to anymore since I've started using Bvlgari Aqva and Erolfa. Doesn't stand up to the depth, sillage and longevity of these.
Used to be a thumbs up for me, now its a thumbs down.

It's ubiquitous for a reason - it's a nice, light scent that works pretty well on almost anyone. Fairly intense top notes, the jasmine is very noticeable, but it dries down to its very cool citrus and aromatic wood base notes. It's inoffensive, and though I can't honestly speak to the college crowd, it's not as common as I have read. Still, I would be cautious wearing it, especially on dates or something along those lines, as I have heard "Hey, you smell like my ex boyfriend" once or twice.

Sillage is mediocre, though, and it does not last an incredibly long time, one spray on my wrist will have faded nearly 100% within three to four hours.

Still, it's a good scent, it's very recognizable and like by many people, but use caution.

Roses and pepper. That's exactly what this smells like to me. The initial sprays smells almost identical to the dry-down, although a tad bit more of the "rose" scent comes forward when this settles down. This is a rather strong fragrance that shouldn't require more than one or two sprays to do the job. Any more than that and I'm gagging. (and so are the people around you)

It's good stuff, just use it sparingly.

Acqua di Giò is one of the best fragrances on the market today. The notes are perfectly balanced, and when applied properly, it quickly becomes one of the most fresh and seductive scents. I recommend that you spray this at least 15-30 minutes before you plan on going out, as it takes that amount of time for the scent to really smell good. I never fail to get TONS of complements from the ladies! One girl was so obsessed with the scent that she told me she stole her brother's bottle and sprayed it on her wrist before going to bed so that she could fall asleep smelling Acqua di Giò!!

Unfortunately, as many of the reviewers have also mentioned, this fragrance is MUCH overused by young adults, especially those in college like myself. I never fail to smell it on at least 10 people when in a nightclub scenario. What a shame. Everybody wears it. Everyone knows about it. But if your like me, I refuse to not wear this scent just because everyone knows it by name; it's that great. So, how exactly does a guy go about wearing such an amazing fragrance and at the same time avoid smelling just like everybody else?

I recommend that this fragrance be added to your arsenal of great scents that smell great with your natural scent, but you must be tactful about when you use it. My style is to change things up a bit; keep them guessing. Seriously. It may seem extremely obvious, but you'll be surprised how you'll keep reaching for the same fragrance to use in the same situation every time it comes up. You may use the same fragrance when you go clubbing, or when you go to a bar, or to class. When you find yourself making those situational associations, force yourself to try something new. I love it when I sit next to a girl in class and I'm wearing Very Cool by Tommy Bahama one day and then the next day I'm wearing Cool Water by Davidoff. I actually catch her moving closer to me momentarily just to find out what I smell like!

I enjoy this fragrance and find it to be extremely refreshing, especially in hot weather or after working out at the gym. The fact that it is commonly used and well known does not turn me off about it, but rather is another indication that this is a classic scent. Remember Chanel's slogan for their No. 5? "Every woman alive wants Chanel No. 5." Of course not every woman alive wears it, but Marilyn Monroe did. The fact that No. 5 is well known and commonly used does not make it any less of a quality classic.

its alright not bad not good....to be honest i like it....ther is a reason it was a best seller....i know its overly rated..but what do u want from a colonge other than to smell good? dont listen to the crap they say about this..this is a very good colonge last long and smells nice..buy it if u can afford it.... its probly in the top 10 colonges that i have ever bought..anyway i give a thumbs up..

Let's all stop being intellectually dishonest; this EDT smells fantastic from start to finish, and that's what the "thumbs" rating should be based on. On the other hand, ADG is also as played out as possible, so I really can't recommend it. If anything, if you've never smelled this definately get yourself a tester and find out what all the hullaballoo is about.

I just can't give this a thumbs up. It smells decent. When I first purchased this years ago it was distinctive enough where I felt like I was wearing something that stood out for summer. Not only has that changed but so did my feeling for the scent. It now goes on like bug spray and is almost caustic on me, even on drydown. I just cant wear this with confidence anymore.

Very fresh fragance and what else? Not class here, not original product. Boring in my view.

Overrated in my book. Also can be used for Bugspray. No cologne should ever smell like this. If you want a REAL cologne, try Aramis.

I am using Acqua di Gio for about six months....Personally I like it a lot....but unfortunately i am usually the only one who smells it......it keeps itself to your skin......low sillage. Longitivity is about 6 hours.....

Another problem with this perfume is that there is nothing special left about this perfume....everyone wears it and everyone knows it.

I'm a university student, and have to agree that this cologne is wayyyy too common among young guys. I like the scent itself, but when entire hallways reek of it, it gets to be headache-inducing. Also, I found that when applied to my skin, the reaction with my skin's natural chemicals caused the scent to vanish only minutes after it was put on.

Nothing new or special. Sweet clean scent that you always smell passing by in the mall/street/wherever. I will say that it is nice once it has dried down. But be forewarned that this scent has a Very short lasting strength. I can spray 8 or 9 sprays on, and by lunch it has dissapated completely(and yes I asked others around me, it simply doesn't last). For the right person and body chemistry you may get better lasting power, but for the cost it's not quite worth it. Never buy this from Armani, it's not worth over 50$ and ebay usually sells it off for under 30$. Wouldn't buy again, but it at least is nice.

Great fresh scent created by Alberto Morillas. Has had many immitations, very popular with women, a must have.

I have a small bottle of this at my beach house. It just seemed to be the right location for an ideal warm weather fragrance. Best way to describe it? Clean citrus.

This smells like a mush, made of melon, lemon and desperation. So generic and overused, it is sickening. Fratboy meets 'wanna-get-laid' tonight personality. Very very mass market. I think it is the male counterpart of Angel: two incredibly overrated, overused and one note, food-like smelling scents that make me wanna cringe.

And it is always the 'Angel girls' who find the 'Gio guys' attractive. It is not even fresh anymore, during summer days under the heat, it only brings out a sickeningly sweet aura of the base notes. Perfect for the American market though. And unfortunately, changed the face of men's fragrances forever, or at least all the summer releases/ Eau Fraiche editions of fragrances. Kinda sad.

A classic frag I wuld say, the scent is long lasting, fresh floral, sweet ad masculine. The only problem with this is that it's everyone's favorite, making it kind of a typical scent smelled everyday once you entered the staffroom...

I use to love it(age22),but now that I am older(age34) I lean toward more niche fragrance houses now. If you want a Mans Aquatic go out and smell Erolfa by Creed. because this was once a favorite of mine,I will give it a thumbs up!

Good for athletic activities and summer days, but nothing special at all.

Although it is one of the most commonly used fragrances out there i'm still a fan. Behind every following there is a reason and AdG is no exception. The scent not only drives 9 out of every 10 women wild but if fragrances were a casino this would be the safest bet in the house. It's still a staple in my collection and I wear it about once a week. Good overall FRESH scent.

Even though I am new with fragrances, I can tell that this is a little too generic. I have smelled this before. The hints of the earthier flowers are light on top with the white rose support. Good to just wear when you can't think of anything else to wear or you're going to a boring gathering and want to be nondescript but have a pleasant aroma aura about yourself. Other reviews say it good for summer and I have to agree, it just doesn't go with the colder months.

I love it. Very fresh, clean and light. Great for every day wear. I used to wear this one a lot. But it has become far too common. Everyone knows what it is, and too many people are wearing it. But you got to expect this one to be common as it is a wonderful fragrance. Its a classic, and will either be around for a VERY long time, or will always be remembered. I can see this one becoming discontinued and then re released in 20 years. Just because its so good.

I have owned Acqua di Gio pour Homme, since it hit the market. I like this fragrance, but it has become so common, that I hardly wear it anymore. I usually put it on during a hot humid summer day, when I'm hanging around my home. I rarely wear this one out. Acqua di Gio's market success has made it become very familiar and pedestrian.

Yes this is overworn. And the fragrance has become 'cheap' smelling as a result. Bright lemony sweetness that is manly and fresh. My advice, buy it and don't touch it for 5 years. It is a classic, so don't worry about it going out of style. If anything, it is out of style right now since everybody and their father is rocking this tirelessly.

This is one of those trend-setter fragrances - that so many other companies copy, and very poorly I might add, flooding the market with headache- and sinus-inducing, overly sweet "me-toos"...and yes, a multitude of people wear it, and it is generic in the same sense as Cool Water, CK One and Issey Miyake, insofar as they are TREND-SETTERS and generic ORIGINATORS...not the crap that floats around every department store corner...

It's not strange at all this fragrance is popular, it really is a very nice discrete, soft and light citrus tea scent.

It is unfortunate that this fragrance is so popular, because I like it very much, but do not wanna smell like everybody else.

Oh well, DKNY Men is similar in a way, but less floral and with an even stronger tea scent.

I love this scent, the problem is so does every other man under 25. Perfect nowadays if your goal is to be like everyone else, especially if you are in high school or college.

On the plus side it is pleasant although very recognizable now. Longevity is great, and this is probably the best aquatic still.

This is a nice summer scent (fresh and clean), but everybody on this world got this scent. I don´t want to smell like everybody. It´s a classic.

I like to call it Acqua di Conformity. If your goal is to remind your wife or girlfriend of one of her ex-boyfriends, this is the cologne for you. It's not a bad smelling scent, I used to wear it in college, but so did half of men on campus. I stopped wearing it when a friend told me that every single guy in his frat house owned it. Enough said.

CLASSIC! My signature scent. Perfect for all year around. Long lasting. Gets compliments. The ladies love it. Perfect chemistry on my skin.

I've used Acqua di Giò as my primary fragrance for ten years now, and I still love it, which speaks a lot about it's qualities I think. I've never come across another fragrance that smells anything remotely close to it, and it feels just as fresh and delightful now as it did ten years ago.

The only possibly downside to Acqua di Giò that I can think of is that it's so popular and well-known that one might feel a bit unoriginal wearing it, but has absolutely nothing to do with the fragrance itself.

Not much else to add = aquatic scent. Longetivity, sillage excellent. Personally, I just don't like the scent. Very commercialised and possible a victim of its own success as 'me too' fragrance.

I consider this the best fragrance ever made. Armani has overall excellent quality in their fragrances (black code, armani pour homme) and this is the best they have done.

But yes, I too can feel that it is to common and maybe a little worned out. I'm looking for the new absolute best fragrance. I can also symphatize with "ifconfig" because I know with note you are referring to, I have smelled it sometimes and it can be annoying if you smell this scent too much.

But it really is the IDEAL for the average young man, aged 18-35. Everything you need: fresh, sexy, mystic and masculine. On a young man during the summer months it is unbeatable to date if you ask me. The charts don't lie.

But, I do hope for some tough competition among summer fragrances 2007.

There I was with her in a fragrance shop, trying out new fragrances. She told me that this is her favorite and asked me to try this on. So I did.

A nice, refreshing, airy, lively scent was what I had expected, but the experience was more like that of wearing a detergent or a toilet cleaner. Made me wonder why it is so popular. Perhaps the majority of the people like the smell of air fresheners?

On the other hand, it *was* midwinter when I tried it on. So I'll give it the benefit of doubt and, perhaps, try again in the summertime.

At first i really liked this fragrance, but after awhile it just becomes really annoying. It literally clings on to you, you will still smell it on your clothes a few days later. At first it was a pleasant surprise, but you get so sick of the fragrance easily, after awhile you just won't be able to stand it.

The fact that women recognize this smell, unlike some concensus, is a good thing. Most reactons I've received with this smell are positive, others are of mere recognition (which isn't a bad one). It smells good, and one spray can do about 3-4 hours.

My first aquaintance with this fragrance was heady and wonderful, but with time, this thing has turned sour. There's this underlying jarring note that I can't place running through the heart-, and base-notes, like I'm smelling a wonderful perfume in the toilet.

This is one my favorite summer frags. Its ideal for reagular use becuase it is a fresh scent that isn't overpowering. Great especially when used casually. In the years to come this will be known as classic scent.

Too commonplace but man does it smell good. I think most of the criticism is unjustified. A solid, clean summer scent that doesn't scream for attention. I would agree that the white musk in base makes this good. If you haven't tried this before then give it a shot and see what YOU think.

I like this scent, a very strong and lasting cologne that is good for the summer months. I love the white musk in the basenotes that comes through and shines, this is a must for any armani fan to have in their wardrobe of colognes.

Thin and watery. A scent I could envision the cartoon character Aquaman wearing (while under water). Actually, its really not that bad of a scent. Its just incredibly boring.

Ugh. I have smelled this so many times on drunken nights, while in clubs/bars, etc. A mere whiff of this toxic concoction makes me want to vomit.

I like it enough to give this a thumbs up. The scent itself is very nice, lightly fruity and somewhat watery but not aquatic to me. Fresh, cool and soft, i think the sillage it's not out of this world.
The longevity might vary widely depending on the user. On me, it's so-so.(wich is composed of mostly, white ambery musks).
Safe and nice, i can see why it's been a smash for years and years. It doesn't take my breath away, i don't think it's a scent that will go down in history as a very unique or original fragrance, as it feels almost too safe and regular. Not the typical men's fragrance either as it doesn't smell like the hesperide- citrus-woods or pines of yore. That everyone has this one? who cares about that anymore?

Not even close to the best fragrance in the world like some here say. It's not even lightyears close to being the greatest fragrance in the world. I don't understand the mass appeal for this. If you want an aquatic scent that is actually good, then try Bvlgari Aqva or Mare. This fragrance is nothing special at all. I'd rather just wash my clothes, it pretty much gives the same feeling. Cannot understand why this is the best seeling fragrance.

This is completely ubiquitous for a reason. I think it's fantastic. I usually dislike men's colognes, which I feel can be too heavy and overbearing (doesn't help when the wearer bathes himself in it, either). But I had a boyfriend who wore this, and I just about died. For a men's cologne, it's light but impacting. Unless your body chemistry makes it smell like trash, guys really CANNOT go wrong with this one.

An incredible fragrence to smell if you prefer something light, cool, fresh, and crisp over something heavy like Envy. Acqua di Gio smells incredible after 20 minutes, but it does stay "smell-able" more than two hours after applications. It's also magic when it comes to compliments from girls. It's a super-safe fragrence, since it is quite common, but nonetheless, it pleases.

Good, fresh, nice scent, but EVERYONE and their little brother owns this scent. I once had a girl correctly guess which scent I was wearing becuase her boyfriend wore the same scent.

It's disheartening when you go to friend's house, and even his mother is wearing the same cologne. We might as well stamp barcodes on all our heads. I'm still not going to knock this stuff, I like it enough to wear home from the pool sometimes despite it's popularity.

Where I live, Aqua Velva and Old Spice are de rigeur, so Acqua di Gio is not well known. That said, I don't like it. There's a sour grass note in the mix that one can easily achieve by spending a few hours in a silo.

Fresh and beautiful? Yes. Boring and predictable? Yes. One of the safest fragrances around these days, Acqua is just too popular for its own good. I think it carries a lot of weight in the United States because people like to hear the Armani name associated with their purchase. There is only one person who wears this fragrance anymore, "I'm a middle-class white guy who knows all about luxury and having a good time." Run from the trend, not towards it. Gio at least opens the door for me to smell original with Aramis Surface and Givenchy BL. You can't go wrong buying this one, but that isn't to say a lot is going to go right, either. Safe and unoriginal to the extreme, which is sad considering this actually set the stage for all those aquatic scents that make this so bland. After the current trend dies down, it might not be bad to bring it back out, but until then...

This fragrance has MAJOR longevity problems. I love the initial burst of fresh herbal and marine notes, but it simply does not last long enough on me to make it worthwhile. Great fragrance notes, refreshingly minimalistic frosted glass bottle, but it simply does not last long enough for anyone (including me) to smell it 30 minutes after application.

Forget this smell conjuring images of a fun day by the ocean, all I can associate this scent with is loud frat boys. That being said, it is overall relatively pleasant, but not only can you smell pleasant without feeling like an abnoxious frat boy but you can find scents like this that are flat out better. Bulgari's take on Aqua, for instance, is simply put a better version of this scent. You won't feel like a tool wearing it either.

This is a good cologne. But it is used so often that I have come to hate the scent. I smell it 5-10 times a day on campus. This is a problem: a great cologne should smell different on different people. I myself have worn it, but don't intend to ever again for this reason.

I wanted to say no completely only because its sooo popular..I use to wear it back around 2000 until I was at a mall and I smelled it around a group of teenagers. And that's when I said its time to move on. Bottom line is that its a nice scent but for the younger croud and if you wanna smell like everybody else, hey I bought my 15 year old nephew a bottle this past christmas. And he loves it in fact those girls are going crazy over him in school and aqua plays a part in that...

This cologne is not overrated, it's just overused. It smells ok, the drydown is generic. The cologne in general is generic. I wear it sometimes because my girlfriend likes it. Armani makes way better colognes, I wish stores like wal mart would market these, instead of Drakkar and Acqua. It's good if you like aqua and smelling like 50% of the people in the room.

No need to explain what this one smells like as most people who wear cologne have probably tried it once before... Acqua di Gio is it's own worst enemy... if it werent so popular it would probably be liked more. One of the best no matter how you slice it.

What can I say about Acqua di Watermelon by G. Armani? If you want to smell this crap, you'd better sniff quick! Lasts about 15 minutes… Armani has many problems with the longevity of his fragances !!!

This is the most overrated and overpriced cologne ever and I can't see why it is because it leaves an awful sour melon smell on your skin. I think it’s the jasmine that does that without the jasmine it would probably be decent. It's a very common, bland scent that everyone on the planet wears.

To me, this is still the Benchmark aquatic scent. I tried a number of other different ones, but this one remains the best for it's non-cloying subtleness, a nice mix of sweetness and freshness. It's certainly not the scent for one who wants to stand out, but if you don't care about that (like I don't), it's a great, light marine scent.
P.S.: No sour drydown on me either.

I can understand perfectly all the ones who can't stand this fragrance and i can't see while is still is such a magnet for females. Unlike most of the Armani scents, most of them being innovative and spectacular just like their creator's unique personality, this definetly reeks like cheap supermarket aftershave. It is far too sweet, to feminine for being a male fragrance, too many misplaced fruity-floral tones.
Strangely enough it has become sort of a trademark scent of snobbish and expensive, yet not necessarily tasteful social gatherings- the perfect scent if yoy don't want to stand out in a
hypermodern club or disco full of young people who all dress and smell identically.
Maybe good for teenagers who like to dress very casual and even a little too sporty tastes. A good companion for esentially teenage popular culture- a little too casual, "sweet", "cute", "sexy" yet soooo conformistic and at the same time bearing the hollow pretense of high class yet giving the illusion of easy, informal living.

Ugh. Way too sweet, cloyingly so, and absolutely horrible in warm climates. But i got to hand it to them... This is the one Armani scent with great longevity. 2 squirts last all day, which, unfortunately, is not a good thing. :P

I'm one of few lucky ones that doesn't encounter the sharp and sour drydown of ADG. The drydown actually smells more like a sweet melon on me. It's a nice scent that everyone I know likes. However, my main complaint is its lack of staying power. I'm not too fond of reapplying and I have to constantly reapply this one. It starts off with a wonderful amount of sillage but then burns itself out too quickly. If this had a higher oil content, I would give it a thumbs up. But this one is literally like 'Acqua'.

My roommate last year was crazy about this stuff, and wore it all the time. I just can't say I find anything I really like about this scent; the mellon-like top notes to me are just putrid, though it does settle down quite quickly. After that, it never really evolved into anything special- it wasn't bad, it's just that it didn't seem very distinctive to me (perhaps because everyone in the world wears it). Some people really seem to like it, but I don't see what all the fuss is about.

Its a ok smell just OVERRATED and OVER used, after trying Creeds "Millesime Imperial" Acqua Di Gio seems like a cheap supermarket aftershave.

I think IPaidForThisName captured the essence very well: yes, just as video killed a radio star, AdG lowered expectations of the buyers seemingly forever. There is nothing wrong with Aqua di Gio, nothing at all - except now there are dozens of similar ones on the market. There is nothing daring in it, for there are toilet air fresheners on the market that cost a couple of dollars or pounds and are more memorable. What a celebration of bland and generic!

New to the scent game, I guess it's no surprise I purchased a bottle of this during one of my first Dillard's cologne shopping experiences. For the first couple of weeks I really liked it. Now, my 1.7oz bottle, which I had initially thought wouldn't last long, has been sitting 3/4 full on a shelf for some time. It does smell good, mind you(though it doesn't last all that long on me), but I now have so many other "better" options available that I only pull this out for nostalghia's sake.

I just had to plug a review for this fragrance...wearing it is like putting on a great black jacket that you know everyone else is going to wear (since every sales lady tells male customer that this best seller is loved by the ladies). In fact, i think this scent is so popular because every unoriginally sticky saleslady WILL recommend GIO to every single man that tries to decline her offer to help in the first place. The fact that GIO is a best seller helps to pull in sales too since people want what others want, and men generally want to be safe when they are first venturing into the world of fragrance. ANyways, this scent is a classic for good reason: it's perhaps the most well done aqua/frest fragrance ever formulated. It has a mellon like sweetness combined with a cool scent that can only be described as "ocean-like". The first time I sniffed it, I literally imagined that I was the male model slicking back my damp, Aqua-esque hair back while relaxing on top of the ocean cliffs...carefree dispite the turbulant waves crashing below me.....then i was slapped back to reality by my mom and dragged home to do homework.

Who didn't go crazy for this scent when it came out? I loved the topnotes and wished they created an Extreme version of this scent. The drydown is rather quick, and it is generally a citrus green scent with a bit of spice. Armani scents tend to work around that same "citrus green" note which make me tend to get bored with the line. This is a good scent nonetheless.

This fragrance marked a big change in the fragrance market; I think AdG is one of the largest culprits in the death of art and expression of perfumery. I think every man alive owns a bottle of this. I just have to ask… why even bother owning this?

I've been using deo-sprays all along, ande decided it was time to go to something more. So, i ditched my Axe instead of this. It smells fresh, and is not as "loud" as axe, or some of the common deo sprays.

Stays on long enough, and is definitely recommendation worthy.

If you want to smell like a freshman in highschool go for it. over rated, to common price tag sucks. there are much better out there and its hard to stand out when a bunch of people are wearing this

I think this is the best one in the world. Also it's long lasting. I smell it on my shirt even after 5 days, so fantastic. Refreshes and gives energy. Also it can be sensed from even 2 meters away, people don't need to fall into you to smell it. Perfect. Girls love it much!

This is a very pleasant, natural-smelling fragrance which maintains its integrity throughout the day. I wore it when I used to travel extensively as it was a perpetual source of freshness between airport layovers and long car trips to the hotel.

If you like this fragrance, I strongly suggest Silver Mountain Water by Creed. It's considerably more expensive, but it features many of the same characteristics as Acqua di Gio.

Over rated, over priced, over bearing. The good thing is that is does not stay with you........who would want to be around that all day!

Honestly this cologne isnt bad at all, women really seem to love it. However, it is not without a big problem. You can get Acqua Di Gio about anywhere (even walmart has it). That makes it easier to get than Abercrombie and Fitch which I can vouch for as being very overused. The halls of my high school smell of Abercombie and Acqua Di Gio. If you just want something nice and dont care that every 3rd person has this stuff, then go fo Acqua Di Gio. Otherwise, just keep looking...

I could complain about this one all day. Should I ever meet Mr. Armani, I would chase him down the runway and slap his greedy a**. When Acqua di Gio first came out I loved it. I purchased and wore constantly. Nobody knew of it, and I relished in the compliments. They were all still wearing Cool Water.
Now when I smell I Acqua di Gio it is ALWAYS on some 20-something, wannabe hot-shot player (Or worse, on a middle-aged, newly- divorced, wannabe hot-shot player!!) He is wearing some combination of blue shirt/khaki, trucker hat/ironic t-shirt, or Express Men sale merchandise/over-sized steel watch. Sometimes gold chain. Acqua di Gio screams I am trying too hard, I follow the pack, and "you know you want it." I wish Armani had priced and distributed Acqua di Gio with the same level of class as his ready-to-wear-- instead of his Armani Exchange.

I love the smell, but being a college student, smell it way too often. I wish my peers would find something else so I can walk 5 feet without smelling it on someone.

This scent generated $100 million in US sales ALONE last year. And it shows-EVERYBODY wears this stuff. It's a decent scent, but it's so widely used that you might as well try something else. Go into a big city on the train, and you're sure to smell Acqua di Gio. Better yet, go to your local department store. Ask them what the best-selling men's fragrance is at their store, and they're sure to say "Acqua di Gio". After all, look at those sales figures...

It might be "too popular", but it's classic! And nobody uses it nowadays:)

i don't mind it so much -- in fact, i tend towards liking it -- but it's possibly the most overdone fragrance in existence. if you're looking to stand out in any way, acqua di gio is *not* the way to do it.

This stuff is best selling for a reason. Clean and crisp, I love it. Lasts all day on my skin and you gotta love the Cedar notes.

This is irrefutably the most over-rated men's perfume ever to be released and the most over-priced. It would be a wonderful perfume if it lasted more than 5 minutes (and I'm being serious). What went wrong here? It is a disgrace this has ever seen the light of day, and it lives only on the Armani name - yes, for blandness. Cannot belive that other reviewers rave about this rubbish. After 5 minutes of fresh watermelon you are left with lemon-like acidity that is disgustingly sour.

Totally overrated. Don't let the name "Armani" decide what you buy. If you like smelling like soap I suppose it´s OK. It is very sharp and too common, this one lacks personality. Women like it I've heard, perhaps they should wear it. Try the latest Van Gil instead.

fresh elegant perfect for summer days

mmm..i feel freah, nice and comfortable wearing it everyday. sometimes i forgot i also have a few other fragrances in the wardobe. Yeah, I should wear something that feels good to me. Mmm..What else can i say..

Overrated! cost too much, annoying sour note and it don't last very long.

After reading all the positive reviews and of all the awards it has received (even here in South Africa), i was so hoping that this would be the fragrance that i was looking for. However, after trying it i was very disappointed at how sour it turned out to be once it had settled down. This didn't deter me in trying it a few more times as i thought maybe it would grow on me, but to no avail. The fragrance just develops into a blunt sour melon-type smell (on my skin that is) that leaves me wondering "Is this it? Is this what everyone is so hyped up about?" It's not the worst fragrance i've smelt, but it's just not one that would make me say "Wow!" Just my thoughts.

i find the smell is quite weak and i have to put a lot on to make it have a stronger smell. Apart from that i dont mind this but there are better smells, its a poor man Ck1 to me

I agree with mattias this stuff have a sour note. I can't understand as can be so popular.

Great!!! This one is definitely is a must have for every man. The ladies absolutely love this one. Although nowadays everyone is wearing it, so if you're looking for a stand out fragrance, this isn't it.

If you think of fragrances as either "heavy" or "light" or "high" or "low" this one is really really "light" or "high" ...hard to explain but although i always like the first whiff of this that's all i can personally take.... nice smell but i prefer others to wear it ! So a thumbs up but only on that basis ..but buyers beware ...you might end up giving your bottle to your pal !

Ok here goes... surprised that I'm the first negative voice on this one. Undoubtedly a complex fragrance, in my opinion Acqua di Giò has a far too sharp sour note I just cant stand. This especially becomes apparent (surprisingly) on the drydown, where this acidity becomes unbearable! Furthermore there is a floral quality to it which makes my stomach turn, since it is still ranked very high , I suppose I´m one of few with this viewpoint.

Best among Marine Scents. Hot summer days and Gio goes hand in hand. A true summer classic.
