Why are the good ones always discontinued? I don't care for any other D&G but this!

It has been called a "trashy" lavender...and that's why I like it. It's spicy, heavy and longlasting. I find the peppery lavender opening quite intriguing, and the development into a skin scent that...projects!!! The contradiction makes me appreciate this hard-to-find gem even more. The basenotes remind me of a hot iron on a cotton shirt...a near-burning smell.

What other fragrance can boast development like this?

I believe this is discontinued, and my prediction is that this will be a cult classic in a few years time, desperately hunted by many.

To me this is VERY unique, and VERY well made. High quality fragrance, really, and I really would like to know the name of the perfumer who made this.

I get very much soft peppery lemon at the beginng, and it smells amazing. Almost the best part of this wonderful fragrance.
Drydown reveils some well blended fougere elements, and finally there is a wonderful leather accord in the base. It`s absolutely wonderful.

To me it is a suprise that this haven`t got more general apprecition. Like I said, it is very well made and unique, and very impressive with subtle animalic charachter. Stays close to skin for a long long time.

The striking zebra bottle is perhaps my all time favoutite.

A peppery sweet leathery fragrance. Good nighttime wear (if you can find it).

Thus far, this is the best of all the Dolce and Gabbana line. It is the perfect going out clubbing scent that works well for daytime use too! A shame it is discontinued - I will miss it when it is finally gone completely. It's a one of a kind keeper!

A very distinctive, original fragrance, makes me feel like that it is like a second skin covering me. It is a fragrance that disturbs, but not synthetic. So sad that they discontinued it. Never been able to find any fragrance that is close to By DG. And never gonna be able to get the compliments I had with this one if noone tells me how they are capable of finding this fragrance

this is a very good frag, came across it a few years ago didn't think much of it until i wore it one night in a club and this girl on the dance floor said she was aroused by the smell *seriously* I went back studied it and realized that the best part about it is the dry down ever since i swear by it

A strong oriental that exudes masculinity. Sillage is ridiculous and it last forever.... a shame it's becoming more expensive (although not hard to find) now that it's discontinued.

I purchased my first bottle a few weeks ago. This fragrance is lovely! Very distinctive scent. Love it!

this is my favorite d & g fragrance of all time! i hate that they discountinued this scent! it is ndeed a classic & still popular! it is a smell u dont really come across bcause alot of people dont wear it! its very distinctive. u will truly turn heads on this! 10/10

I received this as bday gift on my 15th from a friend who didn't know what I liked, let alone what to get me at all...

Not bad at all, but I think a smell a hint of jasmine and carnation and clove in the mid-notes?

I know hedione is derived from jasmine, but this is definitely in the mid-notes.

Nice stuff, I "get" the sexy element in the actual fragrance, but I don't "see" it, if that makes any sense...

I think it makes more of a comfort perfume than a sexual one, but it can go either way.

I got a rather large bottle, plus the deo, which lasted me three years, but I just can't find it anymore...damn...oh well, that's life I guess!

What a great fragrance, soft and inviting, and just sexy. It is complex and does last, by my estimation it still goes strong until the 8-9 hour mark by my estimation which is pretty good.

If you want a fragrance to get a woman to want to be enamored with you all night this would be it.

A female friend of mine actually sniffed me, got close, put her nose right up on my neck and said she could just lick me. None of my other colognes have ever had this effect on her.

I recently discovered By Man has been discontinued which is sad for such a great fragrance. I hope D&G re-releases it because this one really is something.

peppery and dirty. Smells like peppery baby powder that someone in a disco would wear. Smells good, but a little goes a long way.

A little kinky, and very confident - not unlike it's packaging. A great oriental blend that is perfect for summer wear, night activities in particular. Quite potent, easy to over-spray and look tacky, be careful.

by is somethin different from the average scents. with a slightly animalic presence.by has a warm feeling to it at times and slightly powdery. it gets noticed and gets compliments , which is important to me when it comes to scents.

This is potent. When I wear it I feel invincible. It gives off an air of confidence that makes a mere man walk taller and gives him the ability to approach beautiful women, whom he would normally be intimidated by. But, go easy on the sprays....

I'm thinking of buying this one, was planning on blind buying based on the reviews here but I actually, unbelievably, found a tester of it someplace today. So here's my assessment.

Goes on slightly flowery smelling and the lavender is definitely strong, a quick smell might even force one to label this as a feminine scent. However, as it progresses and starts to dry down you can prominently detect the very masculine notes which form it's base. Woody notes, leather and amber are all easily detectable to me.

The descriptions of this fragrance including terms like "dirty, animalistic, even "it smells like sex"" I must say intrigued me somewhat in looking at this fragrance. And though I can't really describe how precisely, I'd say these descriptions fit D&G By Man quite well.

On top it's quite sweet, the lavender being highly prominent, but as it dries down the masculine elements shine through.

I'm quite impressed by it actually - rather unique, and quite nice - I might just go pick up a bottle.

When i read the notes, i thought i was going to encounter a much more peppery and sharper, almost harsh scent but i was very surprised when i first tried it on my skin. It's sweeter tha i expected and it has a soft almost creamy quality to it too. It is somewhat spicy but the spices are not the main attraction as i think the woods and the leathers on the base are.It's a great scent for going out to the clubs. I thought it has some benzoin but maybe it's just me. The sillage is very nice and it lasts a decent amount of time.

An excellent oriental fragrance, however this one is not for everyone, or for every occasion.
Women seem to really like it, and i agree that it makes a great clubbing/bar fragrance, but you have to be able to pull it off. Dont settle for just a tester card or a quick test, visit the store, spray it on and wear it all day to see if its really for you. Not one to buy blind.
My only true gripe is the quality of the bottles - the seal around the EdT cap leaks on mine, and I lost some fragrance. The shower gel (I purchased a gift set) is in a hard plastic bottle, I gently squeezed it because the gel didnt want to come out and the entire bottle burst open along the seams and I lost it all. Some poor design/QC choices there.

I got this yesterday in a tester pack.
I've been watching this perfume for a long time which could be traced back to 2002. When it first appeared in dept stores here in Beijing China, I didn't have a special note for By as I thought it was just medical and something I was not sure about. The scent didn't cut a clear line in my mind nor in my olfactory realm. So I determine to stay away from it.
Just like that. I was away from it for three years until last year I had a trial on my arm and I got a kinda impression of it that I thought a little similiar to Uomo of Moschino.
The scent lingers in my mind then...
I found it yesterday and at a very long price here. 30 dollars US for a 100ml bottle. and I just couldnot hold back.
I have just used once. 3 squirks on my back and I felt a high tone overture for 1 hour and a half. then the dry down came to perform a smooth and a lower profile aroma. At first I moves like the way Allure shows. at least I think so, so spicy and warm, leaving a trail behind me. Then the dry down like someone else remarked hereinafter as it is a little similiar to 212. but richer.
It is also long lasting on my skin. 4 to 5 hours for sure.
So. I guess I will spend more time with it. As now the tempreture is so high as 30 degrees celsiums and I am waiting to see how it talks in colder day, maybe better I hope.

By smells like something warm on my skin. I can detect that trashy lavender blend in there as well. Its not potent on me at all as others say it is on them. Only thing I don't like about this juice is that it wears so close to the skin but it works very well in the warm weather. I spray this kinda heavy and I'm good and I give by a 7 out of 10

At first it took awhile 2-3 trys to actualy like it. Im italian so it probaly blends well with my skin. I've had it since December and yes in warm to hot weather it really shows up.Best of the 3 Dolce's..lasst place is Masculine. scale 1-10 its 100.

This is in my opinion the best of the Dolce&Gabbana perfumes. Masculine has to much citrus for my taste and Pour Hommes has some strange note I cant really take to.

Oh my do I love this fragrance. It is making its second "tour de force" in my wardrobe.. the first time it didn't really stick, but the second time around.. WOW... what a vibrant fragrance. It almost smells like less of a fragrance and more like some natural sex musk that she skin gives off.. the way it blends into your epidermis is incredible. I don't find it as potent as many others here do... and I find that it wears a little TOO close to the skin, but in warm weather..this scent really works its magic. Buy your BY today!

This one is great. I've also got Pour Homme, and Masculine. By Man completes the trio; however, I am disappointed. Everyone else's reviews say that its a bit potent...mine isn't :( It has a great feel to it, but it doesn't seem to linger as much as Masculine. As for the sex part, and not wearing it to work...no one has even commented on it yet, usually I get a couple of 'ooo, you smell nice' from the girls, but I don't think anyone has noticed it yet :( None the less, I like it. But for the price, I would like a bit more concentrate or parfum in it.

Actually, an eau de parfum version would be great!

Let this beast dry down and you're in. You will be complimented. Very good bar/clubbing fragrance indeed. Well worth the purchase.

By is a raunchy and dirty fragrance. It’s a trashy blend of lavender and sandalwood. It’s hard to explain, but it really smells alive. It’s a great clubbing or ‘just sex’ fragrance. I love it, but ended up swapping it. The fragrance didn’t fit my personality very well. Everything about the fragrance is ‘trashy’ the packaging is even sleazy. This is a fun fragrance to have around.

Dirty and sexy animalic musc with super potency. Not one for the office, clubbing and romantic wear only for this beast. By can easily be very overpowering and needs to be handled with caution, 3 sprays works great for me. I'd classify it as a peppery, woody oriental. However it seems to have added pheromones or something, cause the drydown smells like sex (in a good way!). Definitely recommend sampling before getting By, because the animalic heaviness might be too much for some.

Bought it once ... tried to wear it 3 times ( each time for a few days ) ... can't take to it ...so to BY Man good bye ( but as it turns out not a " good buy " )

As for By, let me just say that i find this scent to be absolutely fabulous!It figures as one of my top five.It is a perfect blend ofsweet/spicyut not too much of either.I find it to be the perfect blend for a nice fall or winter night.There's something very sexy about this scent,and i always get compliments when i wear it.I can't compare it to anything out there.Very masculine. Last winter a girlfriend of mine loved it so much that she lent me one of her scarves so that i could wear it and give it back filled with the scent.It is not overbearing,however,yet lasts a long time on me.

I must say the most animalistic scent EVER and possibly one of the best fragrances ever is 'By Dolce Gabbana'. It comes in a zebra striped bottle. It screams GRRRRRRRR, LETS GET BUSY!!!! yes, Al is on hormonal overload AGAIN.
