Re-review from a year ago.

Gucci Envy??? Please tell me you're joking. Envy can't compete with Carven Homme, nor does it smell all that similar to begin with.

This is a terrific Spicy Oriental with a dominant wood accord that can still be had for cheap. Best bang for the buck you will find. Sillage and longevity are El-Perfecto.

This is wonderful! One of my favorites in my wardrobe and one of the best values out there. As others have noted, it smells a LOT like Gucci Envy. At first I thought them so similar that I regretted having both in my wardrobe. Over time, however, I have come to appreciate their differences and am glad to own both.

To me, Carven PH is slightly warmer and a little less intense in the top notes. On the whole, I love both, but prefer the Carven to the Envy. This was a little hard to find, but still a great value. Grab a bottle!

I Purchased this because of the great reviews here on BN. My first impression of this is that it is very similar to Zino by Davidoff, which I had owned years back. Upon review of the notes pyramid for the two, what do ya' know...they are almost IDENTICAL. CH was released 13 years after ZD, and I'm guessing that they must have "borrowed" the same formulation. Rosewood is listed as a top note for ZD and not for CH, although it is obvious that it is there. The only difference in the base notes for the two is Sandal, which is in ZD. All in all CH is a very nice, warm, spicy and slightly floral scent that is not too heavy. The vanilla and rosewood combine nicely in the dry down. Good silage and longevity. Easy to wear for almost any occasion. A great buy for the money.

I'm not a big fan of vetiver. But I love this blend along with the Comme de Garcons Vettiveru. FB worthy for me.

I am not a sweet/citrus sour type a guy. But Carven Homme does something right that makes feel really happy when I smell it. It is sweet, but not at all cloy and overwhelming. The type of sweetness is neutral, uplifting, subdued, formal, classy. I can't imagine how they can make such good fragrance.

It's a keeper!

This easily out-performs most of the top shelf fragrances I've tried. It's a killer spicy, woody oriental that refuses to smell "old." I don't know what kind of wood it is from the smell (someone here said rosewood), but it's a bright wood. And although I seem to use this in the colder months, it's recently dawned on me that it could perhaps a warmer scent too. Now if this were running at a high designer price I would highly recommend it, however, considering the absurd nature of the price I would call you an ass if you passed this up.

This is simply a copy of Gucci Envy. There are no distinctive diferences with the exception for the more appealing slightly sweeter topnotes that save envy a little. I feel like I've just had my diper changed. where did all this baby powder come from. Ginger is a no-no in my book. My next statement can be construed as a good thing or a bad thing, you be the judge. This stuff lasts for days! You can't wash it off if you wanted to. If for some reason you do like this, be at peace because it does have a great price tag.

Well blended mix of spicy notes, vanilla, lavender and an obvious tonka bean note. Classy and not too loud to pretend to be an "old" scent. Reminded me of a combination of Nemo without the smokiness and Caron pour un Homme without the huge lavender note. Very good stuff!

I really love wearing Carven Homme. It has a lovely spicy lavender opening with a burst of rosewood. The sweetness of the vanilla is apparent almost immediately to me but it is a very controlled, never cloying sweetness which houses the geranium and also the wood, which to my nose is the central theme to the scent. The pyramid lists cedar as the wood component, but I detect some vetiver as well. The woods last well through the dry down resting on a lovely vanilla, coumarin, patchouli and musk cushion. This fragrance is proof positive that expensive and high-quality are not necessarily synonymous.

Wow.. I bought this on a whim and I am glad that I did. Very nice and my wife loves it on me. Can't believe how inexpensive it is as well..

Warm, rich, and a bit heavy on me but the rosewood-cinnamon-vanilla-cedar dry down is simply delicious. I would only wear this indoors with a *very* light application and it seems more suited to cooler days than summer heat.

A rich, aromatic, full-bodied oriental that smells much more expensive than it actually is, Carven Homme is similar to Dupont Signature and Gucci Envy for Men. At such a reasonable price, this is a perfect scent for anyone who wants to add a little spice and richness into their days. Perfect for early fall when the leaves begin to change.

Wonderful, beautiful opening: A well-balanced integration of lavender, juniper berry, and an incredible rosewood. I can identify the rosewood through the middle notes by which time the scent has lost the lavender / juniper punch and has taken on a spicy / patchouli with a background of the opening rosewood. I don’t detect any kind of floral in it. The base notes continue the dry, warm, masculine character of the fragrance. I can only identify the woods that have continued through the scent and a musky background, with possibly a cedar. The notes in the base are balanced and just as addictive as the previous pyramid notes. Such a smooth, warm, dry fragrance—understated considering the potency of the individual notes involved. This one just might be the best value for the money in masculine perfumery.

This is one of the best cheap thrills colognes I have ever smelled- spicy, but not pushy about it, and with a slight sweet edge. If you're on a budget this would be the best way to smell good at minimal cost.

Had never heard of the fragrance before, but that changed because of the Basenotes forum, so I bought it blind. Glad I did, because this is gorcheous! Like the other ones already said very smooth and warm, but not cloying. It last a long time too. A very underrated and distinguished fragrance.

Carven is a GREAT, new fragrance. It's got it all. It's very warm, fresh, and clean. And the dry down is also fresh but also woody. This is a find and I think anyone who likes a fresh, warm, and woody scent...will give this one a big Thumbs UP. Josh A. USA 1-29-04
