My first impression was that it smelled exactly like Brut. Soon I realized that there was a lot more going on here than there is with Brut, but I guess even then, that doesn't say much. Having never been to a barber shop, I can't go at it from that perspective. To be honest, I was expecting something leathery. Instead, I got a nice burst of floral notes, maybe a tiny bit of citrus. Definitely powdery. It's pretty sweet at the bottom, approaching annoyingly sweet, but not quite. I would have liked some of the sharper notes to stay and break up this sort of heaviness that remains. Nevertheless, I like this one a lot. It's aftershave--I'm not going to go easy on it. Pour it on and whatever is left behind after an hour, I'll deal with. It's too bad this stuff isn't for sale in any retail shops in Canada. 23 June 2009

Clubman is a classic US barbership product. If you've ever left an traditional barbershop after having the back of your neck brushed with a talc that gave you a fresh, distinct smell, it's almost certainly Clubman talc. This AS is the same scent. It just proves that you don't have to spend a lot to smell fantastic. I think this can be had online for about $7 for a bottle that will last you a year. 19 November 2008

Good scent with lots of herbs, citrus, and musk. Includes oak and tree moss as well as lemon and orange. Only draw back is that is very powdery and stuffy and does not last very long. Otherwise, excellent shave lotion for a bargain! (Available at Walgreens for $6). 06 September 2008

Clubman is a Victorian gentleman's aftersahve, that would work well with straight razor and waxed moustache. Actually, for a very small custom, it is the essence of what many, including yours truly, have been searching for in the way of an ultimate barbershop fragrance. This costs about $200 less than Antico Caruso, and is in the same ballpark. Only problem, it is oily and can be cloying, especially if you've had it for a long time. By the way, the same thing applies to the other fragrance named here by Profumum. 19 July 2008

Man if only every barbershop used this. Hell, even stylists and beauticians should keep this around for their male clientele. As long as they know the dose. With this it makes not a world but a dimension of difference. Clubman requires a very steady hand - a drop more for me is always way too much. The upside of that is the longevity is so good it approaches (but never actually becomes) annoying from the other way around. Like with most scents of this type, the citrus fades somewhat quick but traces of it are still evident hours later, while the mix of herbs and powder continues to work its strange magic. "Herbs and powder with a hint of citrus" is my honest impression that may scare some away, but is much better than it sounds. And I normally hate anything powdery, particularly when it vies for the title of The Scent That Wouldn't Die. That title's still held by Joop! PH for me, but of the super-sillage frags this one mightily steps into the ring and holds its own. The lasting force of this aftershave (!) seriously shames most frags calling themselves EDTs or EDPs. Even for hopeless scent addicts like me expecting a quality fix to cost insane sums of money, it bears repeating: Pinaud truly has some of the best deals going. Drop a few bucks and give it a chance, but I can't stress this enough: ALWAYS remember to use a little less that you think you need. 12 November 2006

Such a great scent. I'm a fan of the old school colognes, and this is one of the best. Definitely reminiscent of barber shops as they sell the Pinaud line of products at my barbershop. 24 January 2006

I agree with Mark that Clubman is similar to Canoe; though heavier and stronger. Lovely fragrance, but it is extremely strong. Mist the air and walk into it. Nice powdery finish, provided you don't put on too much. Then it's cloying and awful. 16 October 2005

this is a really old scent that I believe stands the test of time. It is a simple smelling fougere like brut or canoe though I believe it is superior to each. It's complex but unchanging- the way it smells at application is darn close to the smell 8 hours later. It's a very masculuine scent and reminds me of barber shops. a shame it's only found in plastic (albeit well designed) bottles 28 August 2002
