I wore this stuff all summer- it's great for when you just want a hint of freshness, nothing heavy. For those complaining of sillage, i suggest a combo of cologne and the body lotion (which I use as aftershave every so often!). Also, the little sample soaps that accompany this stuff are great... my friends all come out of my bathroom smelling their hands. Highly recommended, though I'd suggest waiting until next summer. 17 September 2008

I do like Creed's Original Vetiver and while I do notice a small similarity, there is also a significant difference. While I prefer OV, this is still a very nice fragrance for the short time that it lasts. Its very fresh and clean. Perfect for a summer day or for just hanging out in shorts or jeans and a t-shirt. It just smells fresh and slightly grassy. I like it alot. Moisturizer helps with the sillage. 15 September 2008

I purchased this fragrance from all the positive reviews, and since i like citrus/clean smelling fragrances. I received it yesterday, and couldn't wait to try it. I am not as keen in the techno-lingo in describing fragrances as most here, but when i first applied it i was sort of overwhelmed, and thought for a moment that i wouldn't like it, but i gave it a while, then the smell really mellowed out to a really pleasant/soothing clean smelling fragrance (which is what i was looking for!). I really appreciate those who take the time to post reviews as it really helped in finding this gem of a fragrance! 11 September 2008

When you have worked all day, really hard, really physical, and you get sweaty and grimey. It's a hot day, and when you get home you get into the shower and let it run on you, washing with your favorite soap, and your hair, too. And then you face up to the spitgot and let a cooler water run on you and you feel and smell fabulous. If you want to get or maintain that wonderful smell, then use this Mugler. It is an amazing clean and just showered scent. In fact, I think the secrect S ingrediant is a 'shower'. 10 August 2008

A light version of Creed Original Vetiver to me. It's very clean, very casual, very fresh... I felt like it was a t-shirt afternoon running errands while Original Vetiver was the black tie evening at dinner. Excellent scent though and finely made. 21 July 2008

As noted by many other reviewers, this is similar to Creed's Original Vetiver. Or more precisely Creed's OV is similar to Mugler Cologne in that Mugler predates it by 3 years. The olfactory experience is nearly identical (both are clean and soapy), but I would say that I get a slight sourness in the Mugler development that I don't get in OV. It doesn't bother me especially. Mugler also doesn't last as long. I would say that I perfer OV. I like both, am inclined to get neither, but if I were to get one of the two it would be OV. 30 June 2008

Thierry Mugler Cologne is one of my favorite scents. It has an aromatherapeutic effect for me, always evoking a happy childhood springtime vibe. I’ve thought about why this is the case, and concluded that the lovely orange blossom and musk scent is similar to spring bulb flowers such as hyacinth and lily. Some reviewers below find TM Cologne to be citrusy, I don’t. The orange blossoms are much more floral and delicate than any straightforward lemon or orange scent. There is also a slightly sharp green scent (especially at the beginning), and there is a fresh aspect throughout the development. What could be giving that aspect? Ladies and gentlemen, I submit that the mystery ingredient ‘S’ is spearmint leaves, delicately rendered as a freshening element. The bar soap in this fragrance has a noticeable minty aspect which led me to this conclusion. This is an absolutely beautiful scent: light green floral, fresh, lively. It really is the best of this sort of thing on the market. The lightly spicy musk drydown is excellent. Additional note -- my latest theory on the so-called "mystery element" S is fresh sage leaf. I had a meal in a restaurant which was garnished with this leaf. Its scent exactly matches TM Cologne. Fresh sage seems to me a bit minty and green-leafy (totally different from dried sage!), so my original guesstimate wasn't so far off. 25 June 2008

The citrus here is light, but there's also something penetrating about it, like the steam that rises from a pair of trousers right as you run the iron over them. I find it a captivating effect. This is a great fragrance for really hot weather, when anything heavier would wind up smelling like boiled-down perfume goo. I wouldn't see much point in wearing it when it's cooler, but it's something I reach for quite often in the summer months. 17 June 2008

Perfect post workout fragrance, especially layered with the body wash and deodorant. I ride my bike to work and use Mugler Cologne after I shower. Classy freshness in a bottle and the "clean" smell lasts all day at work. Excellent! 16 June 2008

Innoffensive, cut grass, citrus, 'green' top notes with a dry down to a very pleasant white musk & slight vetiver. Definately good for warmer weather (Australia) or for days when you just want something light, fresh and absolutely pleasant. Smells great right out of the shower. Longevity is a little below average, but that can be solved with over-applying or taking a decant with you. If you can find a bottle cheap, buy it. I have 2 splash bottles, and every time I wear it I'm tempted to go back for a 3rd. 17 April 2008

Thierry Mugler’s Cologne has such a captivating light citrus / fresh grassy aroma that it is very easy to love. Its lightness and clean freshness make it perfect for a hot summer day or for those many times when a stronger scent is just not desired. It’s citruses are a bit creamy / soapy: They are not the crisp, sharp citruses that I usually enjoy in a citrus fragrance, but, even so, this soapy citrus manages to retain its presence and personality without becoming Lemon Pledgy as so many unsharp citruses often do. Cologne has its synthetic ambiance, which is the one thing that bothers me a little about it. Cologne is bracing, but never shocking or biting. It’s a healthy and good feeling scent. In using it, at first I thought that its lasting power was extremely limited, but, as so often happens, I soon was finding it lasting an impressive four or five hours. I find it rather linear and that is just fine with me. Ordinarily I don’t have much liking for white musk bases, but in Cologne, the white musk is presented well and with good longevity — the citruses from the top last through the drydown. It is such a beautifully wearable, ingenious product. 18 March 2008

I don't think it's unfair in this case to lead with a discussion of this cologne's notable weakness - power. As much as I love this frag, I can get neither longevity or sillage from this one. To its credit, these traits mean you will rarely offend, even if you overapply. The scent itself is very nice. Fresh, bright and somewhat soapy, it smells like what you would expect to smelly like after a straight razor shave at at 1952 barber shop. Crisp, clean and masculine. There is not much complexity to comment on, but the component notes are well blended and pure. No mineralic or metallic accords here. The oft debated 'S'-note can be detected, but isn't strong, and isn't obvious to everyone. Overall, a can't miss summer cologne -- but be prepared to re-apply frequently. 23 December 2007

I'll give 9/10 (almost perfect/best) rating for my taste as the only drawback is the sillage as it is very minimal. The heavenly green scent stays very close to the skin. A very personal perfume. Longevity is average. I sprayed onto my chest and it only lasts for 5 hours. This perfume is perfect for office occasion as it will not offend anyone. The citrus opening is very mild and do not smell like the typical citrus scent. Then the citrus turns to something soapy green but not powdery. Smells very fresh and young despite the soapy characteristic. I just wish it could have a stronger sillage power. Despite the drawback, this will be my number one perfume. 19 December 2007

I notice that no-one has actually owned up to "creating" Angel for men. Mr Morillas is to be congratulated for this lovely "just got out of the bath" cologne. (Not shower, shower to me means haste and lemon/lime/vetiver) this is all about soap, sandalwood and steamy mirrors, shaving soap and taking your time. I think Mr Morillas has crossed Palmolive with Cusson's Imperial Leather. I like it. 10 December 2007

There is something strangely likable about this fragrance. Its nice and clean like a bar of fine soap. It's perfect when you want to smell clean and shower fresh on hot summer days. I find this a perfect choice for days when you know you are going to be enjoying outdoor activities. This cologne has excellent longevity and perfect sillage. This Thierry Mugler Cologne is also a good value, you get quite a bit for the money if you invest in the larger sized bottle. What's not to like? A big thumbs up! 29 November 2007

AWESOME! If you smoke (I don't) you need to buy this. It makes the smell of cigarette smoke bearable. Anyway, what is awesome about this is that it is a very happy scent. It is synthatic no doubt, but it is uplifting. It smells like clean dry sweet clouds that have been sunkissed and are hanging low enough to touch the tip of green trees. It is 4711 Echt Kolnisch Wasser (the cologne that supposedly started the whole cologne trend thing) to the 10th degree. IF you buy this and don't like it I will buy your bottle. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED 14 October 2007

Synthetic in a nice way, with lime and ozone notes combined in a laundry detergent and "sparkling" champagne-esque composition. Great for hot weather. Staying power is weak. 09 August 2007

Unique, easy and refreshing. Sure it smells a bit synthetic, but it is based on Cashmere Bouquet soap, which is quite fun if you think about it. I heard the secret S note is semen. If only semen smelled so fresh...... 04 August 2007

Yeah, I am not gettin gbug spray at all nor amd I getting any kind of overbearing "musky" scent. This is definitely a green scent and for it's category, one of the best I've ever smelled. It really is fresh and it really is green, but, for me, nothing like rolling in a freshly cut mowed lawn...more of a green bar of soap kind of scent. And the dry down reminds me of Pert shampoo. Is that bad? Well, if it was, I wouldn't have given it a thumbs up. 27 July 2007

Definitely cologne-ish and soapy, clean and soft - fresh and Spring-like in nature. Kinda reminds me a little of Irish spring. I think I would have prefered it if it had more herbaceous-sharp notes, but whatcha gunna do? LOL. I definitely think some more lavander and rosemary would have hit the spot - and even some vetiver and sandal, or maybe cedar. Bu then that would be me telling people how to do their jobs. I'm good at that. LOL. But as it is, it is a great fragrance. I got a decent sized bottle for only $30 Australian Dollars, but wouldn't pay the usual $80 price-tag. Still, I give it 7/10 (that good for me), and a thumbs up. 09 July 2007

This is a scent that I keep craving to wear. Mugler cologne is very inoffensive and is a scent you can never apply. It is soapy green citrus scent that make me feels fresh and clean. It does remind of Creed's Orginal Vetiver but this one does have a green fruity topnotes mixed with soap. It not overly masculine or overly feminine. It is a very soapy refreshing scent. It does turn "sour" sour on my skin after a couple of hours but is a woody sour and is managable. This is a perfect summer scent and has great longetivy on my skin. I have not worn it in the winter yet but I am sure it would fine there too. A great add to any collection. 24 June 2007

A wonderful fragrance. A green soapy scent, very similar to Lancome's Miracle L'aquatonic. I've had a difficult time deciding which I like better. Mugler is lighter and fresher, the citrus defintely is much more prominent from the beginning till the end and the dry-down is more woodsy than L'aquatonic. But this strong citrus note is something thst unfortunately doesn't seem to work well on my skin, too sharp and musky. (I wrote a very favourable review for Live jazz but I no longer seem to care for it because of the strong citrus note) L'aquatonic is Mugler cologne without the citrus and without the transformation into a woodsy scent near the end. It is more linear and remains green till the end with a stronger vetiver note. Still I sense most will prefer Mugler Cologne over L'Aquatonic, because it is fresher, lighter and more a cologne where L'Aquatonic pretty much wears like an eau de parfum (if applied wrongly) 09 June 2007

Fresh and clean! Its brilliant! I love the green smell, like wet grass almost. About 10 or so minutes after applying, it smells like you came out of a longgggg hotttt shower (using irish spring). In the summertime this keeps the bugs off of me! Amazing cologne, nice for...say... BBQ? :-P 23 May 2007

Joyful, light, fresh, not too citrusy at all (neroli and green leaves only), very clean and sexy at the same time. Smells like grass after rain, a little like bug spray, but I love it, there is something enigmatic in Cologne, scent of a river? don't know what, but it really attract me (wow). 12 May 2007

It is my impression 'Mugler Cologne' has been unjustly neglected fragrance. It's also falsely accused of being a cologne w/ a short life. Let me get to the point: among dozens of fragrances I tried/used - including exclusive stuff, such as Shiseido Palais Royale, Hermes, Etro etc. - Mugler Cologne qualifies for top 3. 08 May 2007

Cologne is the best green, fresh, splash on fragrance there is. Close to perfection for what it is and it doesn't try too hard to be something else. Similar to Gendarme but a little grassier and sort of like Story by Paul Smith but with less of a vetiver finish. I can not take this one out of my cabinet because it fills the need to be fresh. It is a nice color too. 22 April 2007

An inspired creation from the house of Mugler! This scent is magic to my mind - long lasting, fresh and yet so calming! Testing this scent on the blotter will prove fruitless... it must be splashed liberally on the hands as it was originally intended. The introduction of body heat will diffuse this clean, embracing fragrance and allow it to radiate with full effect. The evident green citrusy notes veil an organic "S" note - one that is trademarked to the house of Mugler, which, when smelled alone is 100% sexual and animalistic (read: post-coital secretions). The combination of fresh accords played against the beating organic heart of this scent, sends pulses racing and heads turning! Ideally worn (but not limited to) the warmer weather, long-haul travel, and spritzing on clean robes, towels or bedsheets to give a lasting feeling of freshness and renewal. Sublime. 23 March 2007

Fresh and with a certain oomph. But it could definetly use a extreme version. It is a tad bit week if you ask me. Very good though and well made. Reminds me of some other scent which I can't place at the moment. Thumbs up anyway with a reservation due to the lack of strength. benb 12 March 2007

Wonderful. Cannot rate this fragrance any higher. However, it is important to heed the advice of some of the other reviewers...know what you're getting into. This is not the typical fragrance. Designed really work with your skin chemistry, it's a light, classic scent...the best "fresh" there is. Not meant to overpower, this one with will pleasantly surprise people. My perfect summer scent. 09 March 2007

As a general rule I prefer the more complex cold weather scents. I usually find summer scents to be simplistic and as a general rule, very similar to each other. Mugler Cologne is one of the best warm weather fragrances I've run across. A nice, clean, fresh, citrus scent, not too sweet but with good longevity for a summer scent. I find it a very linear and simplistic scent, but it does what it does very well. If you are looking for a nice warm weather scent it would be hard to do better. 05 March 2007

Ok, I own Amen and B Men, so I had to try this stuff by TM , too. I hated it when I first sprayed it on. It was too green, but then, as I went through the day (uh, sweat), I wondered what smelled so damn good. It was me !! It smelled like soap. Hell, even another guy asked me what I was wearing. It freaked me out. But, he said he never does it; he just had to know what it was because it smelled good and he wanted to get some. I am glad to say, women love it, too. 06 February 2007

As this is Thierry Mugler i had to buy it. Boy was I surprised. This is an amazing scent, fresh, citrusy, clean, mossy, musky and wonderful. It has great sillage, and seems to last a long time. Will be perfect for summer when Muglers other creations would be impossible to wear. I've heard great things about the shower gel too, so i think i'll try that too. Perfect for people who don't like fragrances. 02 February 2007

If there ever was a scent which defined "fresh" Mugler Cologne would have to be it. Absolutely perfect scent that lasts and lasts, perfect for a warm summer day. I find a light spray of this just brings a smile to my face. I can't rate this highly enough. 05 December 2006

It was difficult for me to be impressed by this fragrance for two reasons: first I don't like Mugler scents too much, especially, the male products, completely disliking Amen and being neutral about Bmen. Secondly a thought that most unisex scents are cheap, much too experimental, too light, with little lasting power and little individuality. But both problems were admirably anulled by this one- it's truly a refined creation, crisp with fruity touches and vibrant with lightfull, solar citrus notes. An eau de cologne style creation that even comes close to the classics of this cathegory. 03 December 2006

Not sure why people say this is weak. This scent is very rich and long lasting. No significant fragrance shift during drydown. I would call it flowery or soapy smooth rather than spicy. Not cheap but a little goes a long way. Classy stuff! 07 November 2006

That mysterious "S" must be the top note. It is starfruit and it's what sold me on the fragrance. That first whiff is my favourite part, but the warm musk that follows is nice too. 23 October 2006

Lush, citrus-y, musk-y green fragrance. SO nice, and so very unisex. Can scarcely believe that the firm that put this food of the gods out could (and did) also put out two such vile, bloodcurdling goblins as A-men and Alien. 05 October 2006

A great summer fragrance, right up there with the best of the Gendarmes! In the top notes, it does share some similarities with Creeds Original Vetiver (OV), however after those notes subside, a distinct "bamboo note" takes over, while the Creed has a bit more earthy-vetivery smell. Longevity is decent, although the Creed lasts far longer. Mugler says that the inspiration for this scent was a soap he once tried at a hotel in Morocco ... I wonder what kind of a soap has a bamboo note...I would like to try that soap too. It is a good and cheaper alternative to OV, although to my nose, they are distinct enough in their character to warrant owning both. 21 August 2006

Bright and refreshing citrus top followed by a drydown that's eerily similar to Bulgari Pour Homme. Though I somewhat prefer this one to Bulgari, it's such a marginal preference that I'd have to say save some money and get Bulgari Pour Homme. You can find Bulgari for considerably less online. 16 August 2006

For a clean and fresh scent, hey! It's actually not boring. At least it's more interesting than Gendarme, let alone the likes of Z by Zegna and the other 1001 'fresh unisex' designer mall scents. It's neither acquatic nor fruity, and if you like herbal, go with Aramis 900, or if you reaaly want to overdose on 'freshly cut grass' may I recommend Versace l'Homme instead? This is a finely blended citrus. Yep, it's citrus without being poignantly irritating in its opening. You won't be choked with tear-gas strength lemons. In fact, the opening is really so cool, that many have made comparisons with Creed's Original Vetiver--if you care to look up that frag's reviews. Unfortunately, the closing follows hard upon. I can boast that I have finally found a good cologne that's even more fleeting than Hermes Eau d'Orange Verte. Perhaps if you bathed in it three times a day? (sigh) 31 July 2006

If you want something clean and fresh yet you don't like the watery-ozony-sanitized smell of the popular scents like AdG, Polo, etc then this is it. It's a very relaxing scent. I actually wear this whenever I go to the dentist's so that I can relax a little bit more. 27 July 2006

Awesome, one of the best. The true "CLEAN" fragrance. I also just got the showergel which is also great. When you first put this stuff on, it hits you in the face with its sharp citrus but at the same time you don't. It's a two faced scent. It plays nice on the surface but below the surface it just might kick your ass. 24 July 2006

I love it. There really isn't anything not to like in it. You either love it, or you don't mind it. It might seem not to last, but the white musk (but still with a hint of citrus) stays around for quite awhile. Comparable to Gendarme I think, but sweeter in the base. It'll get a lot of play this summer. 12 May 2006

Along the same lines as Annick Goutal's Eau De Hadrien...except Mugler Cologne has a musk base rather than the woods of EDH. I think it would be great to switch off between the two during the heat of summer ~ absolutely fresh, AND uni-sex! 26 April 2006

In my opinion, the greatest unisex scent ever made. CK One has nothing on this. It's not too feminine and certainly not too masculine. Everybody I know loves this stuff as it just screams freshness and cleanliness. The opening blast is a heady mix of green soap and grass. Kind of like a really good bar of soap if that makes any sense. The drydown evolves into a sweet and comforting glow of white musk and petit grain with a hint of orange. Bottle comes with both a splash applicator and an atomizer so you choose how to apply it. My only complaint is I wish it lasted longer. All in all, the great scent for spring & summer. 04 April 2006

My worldview of soap being limited to Ivory - how banal, I know - I was initially not too impressed with the Mugler cologne when I first tried it. I love the way Ivory smells, and it also provides me with an instant reference point when it comes to a solid definition of what soapy "means." (And there are, point of fact, certain quite common fragrance notes that come close to being Ivory-like; the sublime floral stephanotis is one that springs immediately to mind.) So when a fagrance widely touted as soapy fails to live up to my expectations, I feel disillusioned; it's a very primary thing, I guess. It never occurs to me that soapy, to others, might mean Irish Spring, might mean Tide or Joy or some goat's milk thing from Provence, maybe a big block of olive oil soap studded with lavender, things like that. Thierry Mugler cologne smelled, and still smells, much like 4711 to me - not soap. Petitgrain, which I do enjoy, gives fragrances a certain talcum-cool sensation plus a little aspirin-y bitterness. Once I realized it was this note, and not Ivory, that largely defined the parameters of this fragrance, I felt better about it and eventually came to accept it for what it was, and is. Refreshing, crisp, clean in a NON-soapy way - but I'll take it. When it comes to hesperides-petitgrain blends, Eau de Patou reigns as my supreme favorite, but Thierry Mugler cologne is good too. 28 September 2005

Although I prefer Creed's Original Vetiver, which is very similar, Cologne obviously came first. It was a very refreshingly different take on the whole fresh & clean genre, one with Character. It's soapy, clean, grassy and full of citrus. Though it contains very standard notes, the overall impression is original and not much, except OV, resembles it. If you're on a budget get the Thierry, if not go Creed. 26 September 2005

Cologne is a must own summer fragrance. It’s great for those days that you either don’t want to, or shouldn’t wear cologne. It’s very soapy, and very fresh. I use it as a mist on hot summer days. It’s almost impossible to over apply, and it’s very long lasting. 18 September 2005

After three years of not wearing nay fragrances, I decided to bite the bullet and get something. I chose Mugler Cologne after days of sniffing 25+ different scents. This scent is hard to describe, but it is very "green" and fresh. If you haven't given it a try, try it soon. Oh, and by the way, try the matching soap and lotion-both are excellent products, too. 27 July 2004

TM's Cologne smells like a very well made, fresh, clean bar of soap. It also has a woody accord that helps it work well for a man as well as a woman. It has a fragrance similar to Bvlagari pour Homme, both containing orange flower, bergamot and musk notes. It is one of the best scents around for a sticky hot summer day. 18 February 2004

I don't get much singular notes out of this one, but I am a big fan of it. Also has the bonus of mixing well with A*men to form a much more versatile/wearable version of Angel men. 27 March 2003 |

What a change from A*Men! I liked that at first but as my friends and family stated feeling nauseous around me I thought again. Now when I smell A*Men I feel sick too! This on the other hand is great! I absolutely love it! Its top notes are very green and fresh but I would say its mid-pitched. Settles very well with a woody tone and last all day. I strongly recommend it. 08 August 2002

I am a big Cologne fan and have been since it first came out! There's something that I really love about this elusive scent... on me it has a really pleasant green note that is deceptively long lasting. Thanks for the post.I know what I'll be wearing tomorrow as I haven't tried it since last winter. It should be great in hot weather!I believe that the line now includes the body/hair shampoo, at least I think I saw it a couple weeks ago but I was in a rush so I'll look into it. I also wish they had the deoderant to complete the experience. Ìs it soap? Is it deoderant? I like that!! So true! It's one of those scents that makes you wonder and keep on guessing. I like that. The more you wear it, the more you like it and like you said the more you get it! 19 July 2002
