This is a great smelling, classic-style man's fragrance. It opens dry, woody, and spicy.

After 5 to 10 minutes, when the cinnamon and clove appear, everything just comes together perfectly.

The dry-down reminds me of Gucci Envy with added cinnamon and clove. I actually like this better than Envy.

This type of fragrance isn't my preference, but Edition is just good stuff. It smells like what an older, sophisticated man is supposed to smell like.

There is something about this fragrance that I really like. It's a very pleasant citrusy scent that goes well with my body chemistry. Every time I have this on people will always ask me what it is.
It lasts a long time, too. Above all, it doesn't change as the day goes on. Sometimes certain fragrances can actually give me a terrible headache, this never does!

I find that it's strange that the overabundance of lemon here gives an illusion of a fresh mint leaf. Must be the interaction with the spices. Really fun accord. I smell cedar woods, too (and the note pyramids confirms my thought). Perfectly fine inoffensive office wear.

I am struggling to put into words how wonderful this stuff is. Superb longevity and concentration from the EDT and aftershave. Heady, spicy oriental at first, citrus soapy then musky later, but much later.
I have never smelt anything approximating to it. Is it unique?
I now return to say I still think this an absolute classic, longlasting and very original.

The spices and woods move in to dominate already in the citrus / green opening. It’s a rich, full accord of deep, aromatic woods and spices backed up by the citrus, bergamot, and lavender. Dry and rich and surprisingly pristine — Dunhill Edition at first seems a bit linear, but I have found that only at skin level. The greens in the top and the florals and the spices in the heart notes show themselves primarily in the sillage—occasional green or floral or spice notes wafting out as I move around, making the wearing of Edition a very real olfactory pleasure. The dry down is very dry with coniferous notes and vetiver keeping up the wood theme, and with tonka and amber providing the minuscule touch of sweetness that the fragrance boasts. The longevity is very good. Altogether, Dunhill Edition is an excellent fougere of classic proportions—a wonderful fragrance that has withstood the test of time. It is an outstanding value, too.

Naw . . .it's not quite lemon pledge. It can be inoffensive officewear, but after all is said and done, it gets boring rather quickly.
I'll pass on this one.

This perfume has lemon, spices and wood in a perfect and balanced combination. It is a classic perfume, very masculine without being too strong, and versatile: you can wear it both at the office and in a romantic setting.

I was eager to try this, but i was bitterly dissapointed, perhaps its my skin, but after an hour it just smelt like warm vegetables, the opening was slightly better though made me think of an old man with a leather breifcase on the orient express. Perhaps i will have to try it again to decide.

I really like this one because it is spicy and woody rather than sweet and green like many of today's newer fragrances. This heralds in the lineage of vintage fragrances not often worn today. While the clove is at first very strong, the citrus, musk, and amber will come out (I believe that in Victorian times people relied heavily on clove and lavender as can be seen in Edition).

Marvelous take on wood and spice -- undoubtedly Dunhill's second best men's frag. Nevertheless, I'd leave this one alone unless you're a fellow clove fanatic, as the clove note is QUITE strong in this little puppy. If, however, you ARE a fellow spice fan (and no foe of the clove), grab a bottle before Dunhill decides to discontinue it. (This IS the kind of frag that "marketing specialists" are loathe to keep around, as it certainly doesn't smell like air freshener and appeal to the Tommy generation/emo crowd.)

My Top 5. It's very classy, sophisticated and sexy at the same time. I had been looking for it for 13 years. Thanks to basenotes for such a good job. Reading its notes helps a lot.

I remember a friend was wearing this and I had never smelt something so unique and interesting. I didn't know they made fragrances like this and it made me want to sample fragrances for the first time. A captivating scent. Probably my favorite.

It sounds as though the last two thumbs down reviews were written by the same person... This scent is subtle yet sophisticated; definitely for the mature gentleman rather than for youths. An artful blending of bergamot, sandalwood, nutmeg, clove and lemon, this is an ideal fragrance for the workplace, as it never overpowers. It makes it presence known upon close encounters, when its lingering spicy tobacco-like top-note suggests that one is in the company of a clean, well-groomed, sophisticated man...

One of the greatest scents available. Can be used all day both for formal and casual wear. Along with Bois Du Portugal, Gucci Pour Homme and Jaipur Homme, this is my all time favourite scent. Cant recomend it enough.

This is horrible, it smells like a stale ashtray.
The Dunhill name appears, sadly, to have gone downhill since it was bought by the detergent manufacturer.

i received a sample of this yesterday. although my initial reaction was somewhat favorable, it developed into an extremely horrid scent, something akin to cheap scents+dishwashing liquid or something. simply horrendous.

This was the first serious fragrance I bought, when I was about 20. Up til then I owned Cool Water, New West and Safari. Ten years on, it remains in my top 5, quite possibly close to no.1. It is truly incredible from start to finish.
One of the most impressive openings, around, it blasts out of the bottle with a sharp accord of lemon, clove, cinnamon and nutmeg. This accord dominates throughout, even as the drydown reveals sandalwood, it manages to stay fresh and spicy all day.
This is the quintessential business fragrance. It has great longevity for a day at the office, and would be impossible to offend anyone. On the contrary, it gets many compliments (along with GIT and Rive Gauche, the most for me). It is ridiculous, insulting but very opportunistic that this is available for $30 for 100mL!!!

When this was launched in 1984, Dunhill had the launch party at the Ritz in London. They approached Bob, the celebrated mixologist at the Ritz bar, to create a cocktail that tasted the way this cologne smells--and thus the Dunhill cocktail was born. For a few years it was listed on the bar menu at the Ritz and you can still order it, which is guaranteed to bring Bob out to see who the "in the know" drinker is. Edition is a personal favorite of mine, the scent I chose to wear on my wedding day. Bob shared the recipe me me and here it is--splash on some Edition, mix up one of these and enjoy!

THE RITZ DUNHILL

5/10 dry white wine
1/10 Cointreau
2/10 creme de banana
2/10 Cinzano Bianco

Combine all ingredients and shake, serve on the rocks.

Repeat as needed.

As several men have commented here, Dunhill Editions is fantastic on women, too! I was immediately attracted to the aromatic herbal nature of this scent. It smells to me like a fine dry incense, with sappy green wood resins. The lemon sage and lavender give this incredible scent its edge. And it lingers all day, like a memory of a lover's kiss...

Exotic and masculine, but as a women I love to wear this cologne. A man wearing Editon will immediately demand my attention and will add the spice you need in life.

I first fell in love with this scent of lemon and sandlewood in the '80s and still love it today. This fragrance is smooth and long lasting. Fresh like clean laundry.

A bit of the '80s power scent, heavy with woods and spices. To this nose, the clove and cinammon are prominent in the middle notes, leading to something that almost smells like incense. I for one love it, and think it is the last great fragrance to come from Dunhill.

A fantastic business scent very at home in the boardroom. It makes itself known but is never pushy. A true Dunhill classic.

A top notch, masculine fragrance. A little too strong on the clove/woodsy notes, so this is probably a bit dated. For the 30+ crowd.

Beautiful scent from times gone bye. They don't smell you before you get there but they you know you have been there and hate to see you leave.

Very formal, masucline and the ladies love it.

Excellent formal fragrance-very mature and extremely classy! In the vein of Van Cleef & Arpels and early Diors and Chanels. Let´s really hope they don´t discontinue this one as colognes of this kind haven´t been made the last two decades. A classic
