I bought a bottle blind of this because of all the positive hype here on Basenotes. Big Mistake! I had heard that the opening is objectionable to some and the "magic" of GIT comes after the opening notes burn off. Well, yes the opening notes are really hard for me to take and it does smell better after about an hour and a half. Upon application it smells like ultra strong green apple/pinneapple syrup - somebody spilled the bottle. I guess this noxious green syrupy scent comes from the lemon + verbena + violet leaves - but wherever it comes from it is very unpleasant. After an hour or so the strong citrus tartness calms down a little and iris and violet become more prominent for a smoothe elevating scent combined with the green apple which is still there - smells sort of minty. Its OK after a couple hours, but not great. Actually it reminds me of other 1990's scents that area pinneapple tart and shallow. The ambergris basenote adds to the shimmering quality of the violet and iris and it is getting better. But I just can not get past the opening tartness - which by the way never really dies out. Actually, after the opening calms down this fragrance is sort of fresh and clean feeling - very similar to Irish Spring soap at this point. . . . .. 23 July 2008

I wore this to a very fun event in which I volunteered my time to help out someone whose house had had a fire. I was hoping to replicate the cheery, amiable mood by wearing a highly peer-rated fragrance. I can say that it lasted all day. I smelled everything from top notes to drydown. I was hard working for 10 hours straight. I smelled this all day long. I didn't like it as much as I "should have" according to many reviews (not just Basenotes). This did indeed last all day long. I enjoyed the fact that no other perfume I've worn hadn't done this. I've had the chance to smell Cool Water. Cool Water is a little sweeter (for lack of a better term). It smells similar to GIT, I can't deny that. GIT has more of a metallic nature to it, something alien. I'd imagine this is what it would smell like on a Romulan ship (apologies for a Star Trek reference). Romulans are cold but emotional. Treachery is their way. I could imagine their ships smell like GIT. A cold, bold and metallic scent. The scent of deceiving conquerers. In short, a metallic, fresh fougere style fragrance taht has great longevity on my skin.... but I don't like everything about it. As much as I'd like to knock a "god" off its pedestal, I will be neutral on my opinion. 09 June 2008

For me it is one of the best niche fragrance out there. It is green-fresh also warm and smooth. If you wear this scent longer you will recognize that it is more than Cool Water. The lasting power is very good (last the whole day). Best Creed scent and I own 9 different Millésime bottles...point blank. 04 June 2008

I just received a sample of this fragrance in the mail and I must say it is quite enticing. It is almost as if some one bottled Irish Spring soap in a bottle as a fragrance...but yet it is deeper than that. From the get go I could smell faint similarities between this and MI. Though obviously they both dry down to scents that are totally different. I feel that this is a great fragrance for any time of day and any occasion. I couldn't believe that anyone would find this offensive, but as with any fragrance, body chemistry can ruin any good fragrance that works well on everybody. It's clean, crisp and I feel and smell shower clean after I put it on. 04 June 2008

The other reviewers who compare this to Davidoff Cool Water are right. A richer, more floral version of Cool Water. Still, very very similar. I like them both. 29 May 2008

Don't get me wrong, I would NEVER rate this perfume with dumbs down. It's greatly crafted and it smells nice, but it's just not my thing! I prefer Himalaya and MI, but that's personal. Try before you buy! 11 May 2008

I like the smell of GIT very much, but I cannot say that this is how I would like to smell. I would like my bedding to smell like after being fresh out of the dryer. Indeed GIT reminds me of the smell of some laundry detergents and fabric softeners – very clean and slightly floral. I suspect violet leaves are the dominant note here and while I get decent longevity I cannot say that I get the typical Creed ambergris drydown. In view of the existence of counterfeit GIT that has been discussed ad infinitum on Basenotes, I cannot help but wonder how many (if any) of the Basenotes reviews were of a fake product. I also think it would be possible for a woman to wear GIT. I would be curious to know if anyone has had similar thoughts or success with that. 05 May 2008

I've been warned! Just bought a sample of the juice and tried it twice already maybe I should try it once again because I see very, VERY little difference with (may be less vulgar and vinegary-metalic-straight-forward, more delicate clean linen) the later Pierre Bourdon's Cool Water. Gees, I thought this guy hated immitations... Though it's kinna fresh, clean and average joe friendly...I'm still not a fan. as for the oppening, the verbena note could have got much nicer in my opinion. The so called-lemon note just make it fell like hyper fresh (very sythetic) vinegary citrus... very bitter n mettalic. I must admit that it leaves that first feeling for a shorter period of time than cool water which is more linear in my opinion and the difference between tese two fragrances start to show when you reach GIT's middle and ending notes which are more delicate, soft n smooth, balanced... clean linen, green and slightly powdery effects well made but I don't think that we will remember this frag as something great in 20 years from now. However, this fragrance has influenced a whole generation of perfumes and I can understand why a lot of people like it 05 April 2008

OMG, this smells exactly like Davidoff's Cool Water, which I used to own. While I like the smell, I don't like the Creed price so I'd say buy Cool Water instead. 11 October 2007

Smells just like Cool Water. Sure it came out first and lasts longer, but nobody will be able to tell the difference. Does it smell great? Of course. But if you want to fork over 100 dollars just to smell like a fragrance that sells for only 40, that is your choice. If you really want to wear Creed, go for another fragrance, like Bois du Portugal. You will smell like a million bucks and like no one else. 30 December 2006

Green Irish Tweed seems to have become a cult of sorts in the world of fragrance. So much so that I was tempted to buy it blind. Join a cult? What the heck! But a hundred bucks? Then I was at the mall and stumbled upon a little fragrance kiosk. I was perusing the men's scents and then was shocked to see it sitting there. With a trembling finger I pointed to it and asked the girl if I could try it. She said "Sure..." and proceeded to get the box. She was so non-chalant about it. Did she not know what she was holding in her hand? The Rosetta Stone of scent? The Gutenberg Bible of fragrance? The Holy Grail of the Art of Perfumerie? She handed me the elegant bottle and I sprayed the scent on my wrist. I was about to enter the mysterious House of Creed! I was prepared to be nothing less that transported to the rolling hills of Ireland and beyond...Beyond Hibernian Bliss to some other realm that was perhaps an outer chamber of Heaven! I drew my wrist to my nose and after an unbearable pause, inhaled. I did not soar. I crashed and burned and woke up to find myself in a mall. "Thank you" I meekly croaked to the girl and stumbled away. I sniffed again. Is that all there is? What does this have to do with Ireland? What does it have to do with the venerable textile? Is it even Green, for that matter? I was distraught and confused. I sat down at a table in the food court and regained my composure. Now that I knew what Green Irish Tweed wasn't, I wanted to know what Green Irish Tweed was. I smelled again. There was indeed a green overture, but it was a sickly green. Like those clots of grass that clog the underside of a lawnmower and have to be scraped out. Or more precisely like when the autumn leaves first start decaying in the gutter at the end of October. Not a good start. Eventually, this went away and there was a generic light green scent that could've been a weak cousin of Brut by Faberge. And that was it. Thank goodness I didn't blow a hundred bucks on it. I'd rather wear the Brut. I do, however, bet it smells pretty good on Quincy Jones. But then, probably everything smells good on Quincy Jones. 02 December 2006

I bought this because of the hype and am a bit disppointed. The scent is really nice and all but doesn't really last atleast on my skin. I'll try the millessime imperial next 14 November 2006

The world famous Green Irish Tweed. Admired from Carg Grant to Robbie Williams. Does it live up to the hype? Well like all fragrances, beauty is in the nose of the smeller, as it were. It certainly is well made and has great sillage and longevity. For me it is too heady and too green and there is one note that is too prominent. Don't ask me which ( ask Oliver Creed !). So definitely a must to try before you buy , especially bearing in mind the hefty price tag. I far prefer Creed Himalaya. I give it a neutral as i'd probably like to smell this on someone else . I just wouldn't want to smell it on myself all day ... again ! 01 September 2006

When I first started wearing this, I thought it smelled like a sophisticated version of Davidoff's Cool Water. I like this much better than cool water, but it's still not something I'd buy. (The bottle I have was a gift). The more I wear it the more it reminds me of the smell of boiling celery. Nonetheless it's a good scent for flying a kite at the park or a game of croquet, a picnic and other leisurely outdoor activities. I picked it to wear on one of my visits to a very traditional Chinese teashop in Berkeley. It seemed right. The celery quality seemed to compliment the aromas and flavors of the teas I tried that day. GIT smells natural and it's not overpowering. The name fits. It definitely smells green and I think it goes well with my tweed hat and jacket. 24 August 2006

GIT is simple scent. i wore this before (2000-2002). similarity to Cool Water. SMW, Millésime Impérial & Himalaya are better than GIT. keep your money. 16 August 2006

Some more observations by me after spending an year wearing GIT and comparing it with Cool Water. While the top notes are similar, the middle notes are very different (and so is the drydown). The middle notes of GIT are pure grass, or "grassy" (hence the name Green Irish Tweed)...while Cool Water has fresh middle notes ("Cool Water")...it wouldnt make any sense for "Cool Water" to smell grassy like GIT, and most of the comments here on the similarities between the two are based on the top notes only. GIT is pure class, and the best grassy scent around. Cool Water is a good frag too, but quite common and synthetic smelling. But for sure, there are differences between the two. 02 August 2006

Cool Water ripped this one off. No doubt about it. But when I can get 4.2 oz. of Cool Water for 25 bucks compared to the sky high prices of Creed products. Well, let's just say I appreciate Davidoff just the same. I'd agree with other reviewers that the drydown does set GIT apart from Cool Water. But only marginally in the midlife of the scent and not being obvious until the fading basenotes. And it didn't take very long to reach those fading basenotes of distinction either. Certainly not a plus for any scent no matter how wonderful it may be. Despite preferring the drydown of GIT over Cool Water, all things being relative I'd have to lean to Cool Water. Price and longevity keep this one second. And I do hate to say that as there very well would never have been Cool Water without Creed. 29 July 2006

Straight out of the bottle it reminds me of the exact same scent of Cool Water by Davidoff. I was very elated to get my hands on this bottle at first but am quickly getting frustraited with the scent smelling so closely to Cool Water. On a brighter note a female friend of mine said that smelling this made her want to pounce on me :) Use at your own risk! 26 April 2006

My sample of GIT finally arriving, I rushed to grab an atomizer, rinsed it, and prepared to decant. As I was opening the sample vial, a small drop splashed out from the release of the cap and landed on my arm. For the next two minutes, the decanting process was halted by me not being able to stop smelling this wonderful scent. Yes, it does share similarities with Cool Water, but there not as pronounced as I'd thought they'd be. Whereas some of aspects of Cool Water I do not enjoy, I cannot find anything I do not love with this fragrance. What an excellent first encounter with the house of Creed, I plan on buying this one! 04 January 2006

I'm not gonna make any friends by saying this... but I favor cool water over green irish tweed. I'm not sure which note it is, but green irish tweed simply has too much "green" for me, cool water is fresher. Save you're money, by cool water. 02 December 2005

It's o.k. I mean I was expecting so much more due to all the raves and hype. Doesn't smell like curve as i've heard so many people say. O.K. 29 November 2005

This one is an enigma for me. I don't hate it but it's not exactly a groundbreaking fragrance either. As for its similarities to Cool Water, I can attest to them to a certain extent, especially if you think about it too much. Put it this way, people won't go up to you asking if you're wearing Cool Water. With that being said, I don't understand its effect on women. Every girl on my college campus goes wild for it yet I don't understand why. Maybe Creed knows magic. Who knows? 11 November 2005

Wearing this GIT in synchro today with the noters I admit again to it's glory and sigh to no avail, it won't be mine. Too many Creeds to choose from. I don't quite git the Curve/Cool allegations. This is quality. They are not. Still, I prefer Himalaya or Tabarome. 30 September 2005

I pleasant enough scent however its similarity to Cool Water is striking. I find Green Irish Tweed nor Cool Water to be anything but great, as I find them rather boring. 29 September 2005

Hmmm, I don't know, Green Irish Tweed just doesn't sit well with me. It is nicest enough. Perhaps, it's similarity to the much over-sprayed Cool Water (I bathed in Cool Water before my first homecoming dance) can account for my dislike. Green Irish Tweed is green (duh), fresh, and middle of the road.I love the ambergris. Like all Creed's, it is VERY well blended and to me feels round, balanced. A good choice for those without Cool Water flashbacks. 02 September 2005

While I don't dislike Green Irish Tweed, I think there are many just as nice fragrances on the market for far less cost. I'm not attracted to a scent because Richard Gere or Naomi Campbell or whoever else is. My own nose is enough to sell me on a fragrance. I am interested in trying Milliseme Imperial though. 09 December 2002
