I like the smell quite a bit, very good vanilla scent. And I appreciate the minimalist bottle & label, that's cool, too. But this lasts about an hour before it disappears, far too expensive to last such a short time. You get the same effect with Pinaud, yes, Pinaud, which lasts less than 30 minutes but is cheap! Helmut Lang— not recommended. 26 March 2009

What I find odd about this is that it remarkably smells like watered down Old Spice with butter thrown into the pot. 04 July 2008

For the first few minutes, it was overwhelmingly masculine. I don't know what it was. Vetiver? Ginger? Really sharp and earthy. If someone had been in the garden, digging in moist black dirt, about 6 inches down, they could have pulled me out of the ground. I smelled like a root vegetable. But after maybe an hour or even less, those top notes were completely gone, and all I was left with was a faint smell of flowers and amber. Foetidus does list flowers in his review, so maybe I was smelling jasmine. Not a lot of sillage, just a lovely drydown smell. Almost feminine. I like the dry down much better than the root vegetable part. I wish I could name the notes better, but I can definitely say what Helmut Lang is *not*. Helmut Lang is definitely not a cool aquatic. And it is not a sillage monster. Edit: My mistake. . . My review is for Cuiron pour Homme by Helmut Lang! Not Helmut Lang by Helmut Lang. 30 June 2008

This is a subtle scent. Once the sharp top notes evacuates it's a nice soft musk, not too masculine nor sweet. It wears close to my skin. Quite nice on a sunny day. 21 December 2007

This fragrance is accessible and pleasant, not overtly masculine, but certainly not feminine. My first impression is of a comforting, magnetic (pour femme), distinct smell of baby powder whisked smoothly into a lambent musk; olfactory cues for curling up on the couch and cuddling. Here is the scent embodiment of domestic contentment (bliss is in some other bottle), of reading-the-Sunday-paper-after-waffles comfortability. Clearly, not a hot-date scent -- there’s nothing assertive or remarkable here -- yet its very lack of ostentation might make it an ideal day-to-day signature fragrance for an unassuming man with nothing to prove. (Does this all stem from its Proctor & Gamble roots?) PERFECT CHOICE for a new dad whose pre-/post-partum wife is hypersensitive to smell and naturally noting assurances of security. For me, the scent remains consistent -- no note disappearing or coming to the fore -- over its long life, which specifically on my male test subject was over six hours on dry skin under dry environmental conditions. Truly a high-functioning scent, but among twelve new smells in a box of sample tubes, I doubt this well-mannered gem will compel me into making a serious purchase for my man soon. A few months and a few trials might well find me more mature and on the prowl for substance, though, and I’ll know just where to find it! 26 November 2007

A musk scent that I found far too subtle for my liking. Not as creamy or yummy as I was expecting, just plain boring. I haven’t tried the female EdP but this was a big disappointment. 13 October 2006

Very powdery and potent, great for warm summer evenings but best used in moderation. 11 April 2005
