Reviews of Jaïpur Homme (1997)

Someone commented to me that they thought the color of Jaipur Homme should be white, not clear, because it reminded them of eggnog. And yes! It does remind me of eggnog also! Nutmeg and vanilla! But not just nutmeg and vanilla; there's also some cinnamon and cardamom -- the list of spices I use to make my moussaka.

But about 4 hours later, it becomes less like a spice packet that I'd use to mix into my stir fry, and more vanilla and musky-smell -- almost like that powdery Arrid XXtra-dry deodorant-like smell of Le Male by JPG. I can't say I like the drydown as much as the opening. But it's certainly a distinctive smell, and I wouldn't mistake it for anything else, should I ever smell it on anyone else.

My test was with Jaipur Homme EdP, not the EdT. I agree with other reviewers that it definitely *lasts*. Sillage is pretty prominent, I think, because husband was able to smell it with me just standing next to him, and he was able to say that he doesn't like it. To each his own.

In whatever for this is - I like them all. My favourite would be the EDT, to me it is the perfect mix of all the notes especially the heliotrope - and if you love heliotrope as much as I do, this is a great example of it done well!

RECOMMENDED.

This is a fragrance that many "newbies" will dismiss as glorified baby powder. It's only after you've sampled many orientals and spent quite a bit of time with them that you can appreciate Jaipur (I've only used the EDP version). As one reviewer said, it's best too use it sparingly and get a dispersed mist (I noticed this with Witness by Bogart too). After several wearings, you should be able to appreciate this really nice blend. If you are trying to appreciate it, don't wear it several days in a row. Come back to it every couple of weeks, and you should be able to detect more complexity in it than you did on previous wearings.

When I first started using Jaipur I had only discovered the EDT. Even so, I was transfixed immediately, so much so that it has become one of my perennial favorites. Jaipur smells like nothing else I have ever experienced - the vanilla is really something else, it punches out from the second the juice is applied. It is one of the few fragrances I have worn that have caused strangers to ask me which cologne I am wearing. I was happy with the EDT.

Then, while in Paris, I sprayed on some of the EDP, and it was an epiphany - how, I wondered, could it be that these brews could share the same name and yet be so different? By "different", of course, I mean "more magnificent".

I reach for my Jaipur EDP regularly. Sometimes I am so torn between it and Antaeus that I have to flip a coin to decide which one I'll spend the day with. Jaipur Homme is very potent, long-lasting, and projects calm, confident masculinity. And in the words of one of my work colleagues, "it smells very very expensive". It is quite sweet off the top, which could be mistaken for a feminine characteristic, although it fades away quickly to leave a spicy, oriental sillage that lasts for many, many hours. If you're hung up about the idea of wearing a fragrance that's a little sweet, then by all means drown yourself in Yatagan or Quorum and stick with that. If you're comfortable with your masculinity and it's not threatened by wearing a fragrance that can sometimes smell a little androgynous, then get yourself a big bottle of Jaipur Homme EDP, and enjoy.

Very refined and luxurious.... Jaipur's appeal is evidenced by the scores of great reviews. Jaipur fits into the rare slot of an oriental that is totally versatile - it works in the office or on a date, dressed in a tux or in shorts/t-shirt at Starbucks. The notes are those typically found in fresher fragrances, but they are presented so richly that the fragrance could never be so categorized.

I own the EdP and it lasts forever and throws good sillage. I don't suggest over-application.

With a romantic name that recalls legendary India and with notes like cardamom, heliotrope, cinnamon, rose, jasmine, patchouli, and cedar, one might think that this is dripping with exotic opulence; it certainly isn’t. Though Jaïpur Homme is certainly not subtle, its luxuriousness is restrained. Because it is an Oriental, it is lush and rich, but Boucheron has made it a refined and distinguished richness. Its lushness is held within reasonable boundaries, while its formality has a distinct edginess to it. It travels a very fine line between sensual and formal — between luxurious and sophisticated — and the result is one of most the beautiful masculine olfactory creations in the designer world.

Probably my all-time favorite among designer scents, and something that I wore almost exclusively for years before I discovered niche fragrances. Though I've grown bored with it from overexposure, I still think it's one of the better orientals out there. Not so fussy or busy as many, and with its heliotrope and vanilla sweetness well-tempered by the citrus. Far superior, by the way, in its eau de parfum form.

this is 1 of my leading scents i luv 2 wear n the fall & winter months! its sweet,sexy & it always draws people close! its def a winner! N my opinion it is THEE BEST oriental scent out on the market! i give it 9/10!

Probably the best oriental fragrance. Very classy, very elegant, this perfume is truly poetic. The blend of sweet and floral notes is just perfect, resulting in the most balsamic scent I've ever smelled. It's not necessarily the most masculine scent, but that's a good thing because instead of the heaviness and the roughness of the classical fragrances, you get a luminous and luxurious scent. The only problem is that the mid notes tend to be a little soapy, which can become a bit cloying.

I bught a bottle today. It is fantastic. It is classy, powerdery, sweety and has a very good longetivity specially the EDP version which lasts for ever...

EdT: Amazing sillage, lasting power, magical powers... Ok, maybe not the last one but this magical elixir from the far east comes quite close to giving you powers beyond your imagination. It's sweet. It's very sweet. But Boucheron does it SO well. In addition to adding a slight hint of spiciness, Jaipurrrrrrrr is not cloying in the slightest.

Review for the EDP version:
When I spray other fragrances on, I always wished I had put Jaipur on instead. This is the best scent for the fall and winter without question. Pi is weak and pretty boring compared to this if you ask me, although I do like Pi (I also own it) Jaipur is just on a completely different level than Pi. I'll always have this in my collection.

Among my very favorites. Love the vanilla and cinnamon powdery mix; lasts allllll day long, therefore, just a spritz'l do'ya! Class all the way.

I like this one more than Boucheron pour Homme, the latter being recommended to me if like classic chypre scents in the style of Eau Sauvage, Chanel pour Monsieur, Aramis or YSL pour Homme - whom i all love. Tough Boucheron pour Homme is a high quality scent, it impressed me less than the four basics listed above, as in my opiion does not really compete with their refinement as has something flat and too heavy in the drydown. Things were totally different with Jaipur homme. Strangely, i had less higher expectations from this one than with Boucheron pour Homme, but ended up loving it. It is one of the most unusual and almost niche-targeted Orientals still to be purchased today ( tough Boucheron is not a niche fragrance house ). It is artistic, evades any genericness and suitable for any kind of uncommon target with a more artstic side. Smells like Opium por Homme, with a touch of Gourmand Orientals, Santos and Must by Cartier and Zino Davidoff, but with a plus of that special extra something and an even greater amount of lush spicyness, maybe even at a higher degree than these already extremely powerfull and overindulgent scents. Still, inspite of its lasting power, it never plunges into vulgarity or loud, in your face, notes that even if used moderately seem to overapply. While it makes no secret of its warmth, opulence and seductive aura, it retains a smoothness and discretion of rare proportions.

The best oriental? It's quite possible, at least of those i've tried... I was lucky enough to pick up a bottle of the EDP and without doubt it's one of the greatest fragrances I own. With the exception of Heritage by Guerlain this may be the best use of vanilla I have yet encountered. Lasts forever and sillage is good, but controlled.

I like this one. It reminds me of the shaving cream that my grandfather used to use. Not a fragrance that I could see myself wearing out, but wonderful at home sitting by the fire reading a good book. Very mellow, warm, and comforting.

im not a fan of spices but jaipur shines. masculine and the vanilla smooths out the spices. back in 2004 was when i tried this and it made a lasting impression.

I do feel that this is a little on the feminine side, but it does smell great!

I have been using Jaipur for about a year now and women comment all the time on how good it smells; the main reason I wear cologne in the first place!! This scent is all class...and expensive, I might add, but worth it. It is a very "soft" scent that should not offend anyone. I don't think of a feminine scent when I smell it, but it probably isn't something all the fashion designer "club" cologne fans would want; too sophisticated of a scent. Women love it, so I love it!

Tremendous staying power and an unusual fragrance that always gets me noticed. I love thew opening gambit .. A firm P-K4 and proud of it. The drydown doesn't seem to happen that fast, but when the amber and cinnamon knock on the door, the party does get swinging. i agree with those who may feel its a relatively feminine scent, but that can easily be overcome with a darker tie and trousers. Compliments to the blender on this occassion. A masterpiece .. Perhaps not, a lovable smooth rogue in a dress, definitely.

an absolute fantastic fragrance. I purchased it and put it on. I had so many peple ask what i was wearing. To the point that some of tham went out and purchased it. In the words of Victor Kiame, I like it so much I bought the company. I didnt but you get the drift! Beautiful, full of Eatern mystic, a headiness that invokes a liason in the night in Zanzibar. Class. This has a wow factor of 10/10

It s for sure a masterpiece of the perfumer's art. I prefer the EDP version from EDT. Its more full body scent and more mysterious.
Me i can smell some fruits sometime but always great spice floral notes nad gorgeous vanilla.

If you're going to get it, though, spend the extra $ and get the EdP version -- you won't regret it.

The heliotrope topnotes are intoxicating, and the ambery rich vanilla drydown is one of the best I've ever encountered, no doubt about it.

I arrived at work one day and a colleague, who sits quite a distance from me, said "this is what my husband should smell like every day". Her words were good enough to justify Jaipur Homme Edp.

I own Jaipur Homme Eau de Parfum. I must admit that it's one of my favorite orientals. Its vanilla is one of the richest around and it does last more than 10 hours. This scent is very smooth and dresses you just like an oriental silk. This is a very chic, stylish smell that works his best in the evening. This is an oriental scent that is easier accepted by everyone. Good going, Annick Menardo!!

I don't have anything new to add. Buy some.

A very nice Oriental, maybe Floriental, sweet and sexy.
If you like Gucci Envy, This fragrance is a must: their drydown are very similar, but Jaipur presents a more smooth and chic smell, with cinammon and some floral notes. I Think It's less cloying than Envy, less thick. For sure, It's more refined. The longevity is also great! (I tested the EDP).

Absolutely fantastic, refined vanilla and creamy amber, with tastefully rendered top notes that caress rather than shock, this is what a dark elegant full-bodied oriental sweet scent must be. If givenchy's Pi is just too much,and you like vanilla, this is the elegant, more refined way to go. Both the EDP and EDT are something of a master class on perfumery. Congratulation Boucheron!

Quite possibly the sexiest Oriental scent for the evening. Similar to Opium Pour Homme but without the medicinal qualities. Jaipur Homme is one of the smoothest scents of its category. Definitely a must have for the true fan of Oriental scents.

Classy oriental. Spices playin around in creamy vanilla. I had a sample a few years back and I've been meaning to get a bottle of this. This is a juice that I would add to my wardrobe for sure.

One perfect fragrance

A great fragrance, I bought it in Paris airport at the suggestion of a beautiful blonde French sales Lady and I haven't regretted it... Powdery clean, and spicey!

Overall a relatively simple recipe but what a masterpiece! I just wish it were a bit darker and more mysterious instead of the powdery vanilla base, which would have fitted the name better. A good choice for cooler weather and more self-confident men IMO. A much better creation than the origianl Boucheron.

After having read so many rave reviews about Jaipur, I found a well-priced bottle and purchased it. Upon first spray, I found it sweet, spicy and a little soapy at the start.. but unlike a lot of reviews here, the drydown is where this fragrance really shines. It blends into the skin nicely and achieves a very soft and warm balance - one that is majestic, and understated. I can't imagine very many people "not" liking this scent. I can imagine indifference, or adoration.. but I can't imagine anyone hating it. I am happy with the purchase, and though it won't be an every bottle, it will surface on romantic evenings and such. A very unique and well crafted fragrance.

What else can be said about perfection.

This is a review of the EdP. A rich and sumptuous fragrance. A fresh citrus that dries down through spices and a warm amber. The end is purely resinous amber, vanilla and heliotrope. Smells rich and divine. I want to keep smelling the heliotrope as it dries down. A perfect oriental.

This fragrance is amazing! I think Boucheron has mastered the oriental genre in Jaipur. This oriental fragrance puts others like Burberry Brit and Obsession to shame. It is much more smooth than those others and yet as gorgeous and "nose-catching" as something like A*Men! Whole-heartedly recommended!!

My words cannot do justice to this masterpiece of the perfumer's art. A modern interpretation of the classic orientals, and will become a classic itself. The Eau de Parfum version smooths out the ripples of spicy cinnamon with a rich and creamy vanilla. A sophisticated amalgamation of warm notes which enfolds you in its aura.

Jaipur is a great Oriental fragrance for men. It’s a bit more subtle and wearable than some of the other powerhouses in its family (Opium PH, M7, Obsession). Jaipur is soft and powdery, but also very classy and elegant. This is a great rich and refined Oriental.

Sweet, floral, and spicey. Very pronounced and long lasting. A classic addition to your wardrobe.

FIRST of all let me just say that I have been to Jaiupur before in India...its a beautiful place... and the fragrance smells soo good!!I must admit I did not like Boucheron our homme, but they came back strong when they came up with this... its spicyness reminds me of the spices I might smell in an indian market...its an amazing scent with a great ambery drydown....amazing ...it really is a jewel...

An aquired taste and perhaps not for the mainstream. Jaïpur is very original and playful. Strong powdery notes, mainly because of the vanilla, but also a sweet, almondy heliotrope that gets a lot of space. The drydown goes on to become quite spicy and this Boucheron, just like it's predecessor, feels very formal and perfectly suited (pun intended)for business occassions. It's a try before you buy fragrance though, as I suspect that the powdery feel might be to much for some.

A nice formal fragrance. When used in excess it can be quite burning (spicy) and dry to the nose, which not a nice experience! If you are a bit heavy on the trigger finger don’t worry about it too much, I find that this scent does not project too much, so you will be the only one suffering. The fragrance has good staying power (EDT) even when used sparingly.

It is quite a clean and spicy smelling scent which is better for formal occasions than everyday use IMHO. It is fairly classy smelling, generally not something I wear with most t-shirts. I think it is better suited to older rather than younger people but I still wear it and don’t find it too old smelling (I’m 19).

HOT. HOoooott. This is the hottest fragrance for men, EVER. Just a woman's opinion. So, so hot.

I like it very much, it scent is almost like opium from YSL but a little bit softer & woody.

Those reviewers who find jaipur homme's scent vague or indistinct, in some ways that's the point. It's very suggestive and should be used (eau de parfum) sparingly. It is one of the best fragrances for men out there, and it should be misted and never sprayed heavily at pressure points. Misting is the key as the skin will absorb the oils and genlty release the fragrance throughout the day. Being an eau de parfum, spraying too heavily will actually cloud the fragrance. Again my suggestion for this product, misting will indeed release its treasures. One to be worn sparingly. With such a fine fragrance, understatement is everything.

My latest discovery (maybe a little late) and I like it!!. I think of sweet vannilla when I smell this.It also helps that my wife likes it too.

Beautiful and sweet. Has a definite classy, "rich guy" aura about it. The parfum lasts all day. Yea, you could say this is one of those Foo-fee, fluffy, feminine smells but if sweet and rich is your thing, no ones collection can be complete without it. Its nice that a few of the finer houses still make mens parfums. The metal container is a keeper too.

This is a scent of shining gold (not that gold bullion some people die for but the one in beautiful ancient sculpture or jewelry). Shiny citruses developing into rich and sweet oriental spices. Ends up with powdery notes of real chic. To my mind one of he best oriental fragrances ever. I wear it as an evening scent for colder temps time. Worn both EDT and EDP. I think that EDT is more subtle and full of undertones while EDP has more character to it, more woody and spicy. Both are everlasting. A must-have.

My signature scent. It is one of the classiest, most luxurious scents imaginable. It is the definitive oriental perfume: sweet, woody, and spicy. The Eau de Parfum is well worth the cost as it lasts forever, and also comes in a refillable metal case which holds the bottle. I have yet to meet someone who doesn't love the smell of Jaipur.

The very best oriental scent for men, IMHO! Very rich, sweet floral and delicately spicy and creamy. An ideal scent for the cold season. Simply fantastic!

Somewhat like Pi, but a little fresher. A very refined woody floral, suited for elegance. It's rapturous.

This is one of my favorite fragrances. I personally like the eau de parfum version of the scent, which is a little more richer on the wood notes, and less on the fresh like the edt. I use the scent to dress up going out. This is NOT a scent for casual.
