Wow. It's strong.

When I first smelled this I had to buy a new nose off eBay because the other one had been burned off by the intense smell. After successfully receiving and attaching said new nose I tried again... carefully...

First things first. I don't care what anyone says; the colour and the bottle are camper than an army barracks in a field. But that shouldn't stop anyone from trying it. Joop! Homme was one of my first fragrances I tried and instantly recognised the smell from when I went out on the town. After getting over the initial "oh no I'm going to smell like a teenage boy out on the pull" I sprayed ONCE on my wrist. Boy it is strong. The top notes are potent with a real fruity smell (i think) that lasts for a good 40 minutes or so. Used sparingly though I don't think it is that sickly at all. In fact I believe it settles quite well to an oriental fruity sweetness. At this point I would say if you don't like sweet frags then don't get Joop! Homme.

Moving onto the dry down, for me the smell changes completely to a mysterious blend of woods, spices and sweet fruit which stays throughout the life of the smell. However, I find it develops into a far more sophisticated smell as the hours pass by. I know people will disagree but hey.

Couple of things I've personally found out - it's not really a day time smell unless it's quite cold. I didn't believe this whole "summer / winter" smells thing at first but as I started to wear more frags etc I found out that Joop! Homme is best left for the colder months! It's a very warm smell, I tend to wear it in the evenings and I can trust it will last throughout the night. I do still smell it in the morning!

One last thing, for the love of all things good on this earth please do not bath in the stuff! 1 spray is honestly enough for me. I swear that the single cause of poverty in the world today is because people spray too much Joop! on themselves. Don't ask me how I got to that conclusion - lets just agree to disagree and move on!

A high school/ college cologne for me. Reminds me of those times, but wouldn't wear it now. A little too strong, and this to me is the "cologne I smell on everyone".. for real, Joop is the one where I'll get a whiff and be like "oh yeah there's some Joop", and I don't get that with many other frags.. I'll never forget a girl telling me I smelled like laundry detergent.... which I don't know if I agree with that, but I still remember that comment 10 years later....

I see many negative reviews here. I can understand why. When I first sprayd this I was baffled. Sweet, cloying and overbearing. But as time passes and this scent comes to its drydown, I can see it is delicious, beautiful, dark in its sweetness. Evening, colder weather and nicer clothes paired with this scent = aphrodisiac. Yes. You don't really have to like this scent, but trust my word, it works, you get noticed. Don't overspray it because it is strong and has a great longveity. Joop Thrill Man is a subtler and milder version of this scent, also works quite well and younger women love it on a man who wears it well.

An astonishingly potent and saccherine fragrance that is one of the easiest to discern in any crowd. It's about as subtle as a rugby club stag party, and lacks any intricacy, nuance or finesse. This Hiroshima grade candied cinnamon is quite something to behold, and it dominates to a degree that makes Joop Homme a hostile piece of apparatus to engage. Use this fragrance as Ground Zero, and quickly realise that anything else is an improvement.

I have to admit I didn't believe it when I read the review that mentioned a urinal. Well, how interesting. It smells like flaming rubber, in the midst of candy syrup, all in a urinal. It smells interesting about 1/2 of a breath in but then overpowers the senses afterwards. Absolutely dreadful. Please don't over-apply!

Yeah this is a tricky one. We all smelt of this at 16 but there's no mystery with this fragrance- as soon as someone walks in the room wearing this you know its Joop!! Very long lasting nice smell but too overpowering at times.

It's Halloween and the busty, sexy kindergarten teacher has shown up to class dressed like The Tooth Fairy.

She sniffs something in the air.

Terrified, she recognizes the smell, it's Joop!

Jason Voorhees and Freddy Kreuger enter and make short work of her in front of the horrified children.

Screams and slashes!!!!

OK, cut and print.

The director turns to the screenwriter.

" Sorry dude, but Joop! should have a question mark at the end, not an exclamation point. You're fired! "

The cast breaks for lunch----and even the child actors avoid anything that smells even remotely sweet.

The End.

From the moment it came out i loved it!...and i still wear it 20 years on it's hold is that powerful...for Joop! has a kind of magic! It doesn't matter what anyone says(and people love or hate it in equal measure) Joop! hooks you in if you allow it to...because you will either fall for it or you won't. i can't describe the smell but it makes me swoon.JOOP! has warmth and depth and plenty of individuality.FABULOUS!

This is just a flowery mess. The urinal cake reference was right on, except with an added note of cherry Vicks cough drops mixed in as well.

I'd never purchased cologne for my father before, but when I was a teenager in the 1990s I smelled something fantastic while passing by the men's fragrance counter in a department store. I walked all around the fragrance counter and sniffed everything until I finally discovered that the smell was coming from the Joop! bottle (pronounced "yope," the salesperson hastened to inform me). It reminded me of a nice fabric softener. I bought a bottle for him, he loved it, and I'll always associate the scent with him now. He only applied the tiniest spray, though. I can imagine that more would be way too sweet and overpowering.

I have had a bottle of this filth for like 3 years and every time i feel like laughing i just take a wiff of it. Most repulsive cologne i have ever smelled and do not have the slightest idea of why anybody would enjoy putting this on their body. Armani Code is where its at!

Take the horrid opening of Versace The Dreamer and make it permanent: thats Joop! Homme. Dreamer atleast dries down to something more plesant, this does not. The fragrance is as kiddy and dumb as its name suggests, what a joke.

When I first smelled Joop at Bloomingdale's back in 1991, I really thought it was horrible. As time passed I grew to like it. It was very avante garde in its day but today, there are many frags that are along the same character as Joop. I used to wear this (very moderately) back in the mid 90's and actually enjoyed it. I guess Joop is a classic even though it is a bit dated.

I have never smelt anything remotely close to Joop! Homme. It's extremely unique and in it's own class. It is so strong it will knock you off your feet if you abuse it's application. One spray is WAY enough, and two, well, your just asking for it...

I don't get any cinnamon in this fragrance. I do get a very sweet aroma that's musky and sharp. It's somewhat creamy and similar to some sort of cleaning product or bathroom spray, but that's the point of this one. It makes you think about it. It's not a simple message to the senses. It will leave you frozen in your tracks trying to find out what the hell its trying to say. It's an evolutionary process from the first spray, till the moment you step in the shower.

I'm liking this fragrance more and more each time I wear it. At first it was just offensive and bold. I put on two sprays and I could smell it through out the whole house and it was just to much.

I bought the 2.5 ounce because it's going to last a very long time. I recommend firing one shot at your chest and then putting on your shirt shortly after. ANY more of this stuff and it's just nauseating and distracting in bad way. But when applied in a sparing manner, this stuff is pure awesome and does very well on me.

I love the bottle and the color of the juice. I think Joop did a very nice job with this one. But, I think the box should of had a big warning label that is a legal requirement for people to read before opening. APPLY LIGHTLY!!!

I first discovered this some years ago at a local department store (early 1990s, I think). I liked the scent back then, but chose to delay my purchase in the interest of economics. At the time I was a committed Drakkar Noir user. I was able to pick up some Joop at a nice discount recently and thought I'd add another scent to my collection (I usually stick to two or three old stand-bys and will experiment only sparingly or if I get someone gets generous with me for Christmas or birthdays).

This was as nice as I remembered. I generally put a light spritz on both sides of my face and another small one on my throat/neck. This comes out of the bottle a trifle too sweet, almost cloyingly so. The real joy of this fragrance is deferred gratification. Joop doesn't reach its full potential for a good hour and a half or two hours when the sweetness mellows into some rather warm lingering bass notes. I perceive some nice vanilla and other reassuring spices

Have the common sense to give this scent a reasonable time to mellow, at least a good half hour or forty five minutes, before any serious social or business interaction. And for God's sake don't slather it on. Used in proper proportion, this scent can serve you well. A nice scent at a sensible price. Generally available for less than $40 for a generous size bottle. Somehow I pulled off a 2.5 oz bottle for about 22 bucks. Not a bad bit of work, if I do say so myself. Apparently my merchant was having trouble moving this old stately gem and used entirely too much shelf space on other fragrances. Should you be so fortunate, have the sense to ante up. Without shame, I'll tell you, I made a new friend at my local Walgreens...she wasn't in it for the commission...

Despite all the bad reviews, I am certain that there are more people who like this scent than these reviews indicate. It is certainly a popular choice in this part of the world (Queensland, Australia), and is one of my all-time favourites. Joop! Homme was also my very first signature scent—and the only one I wore for years.

I guess the motto "try before you buy" would apply if you haven't smelt this one before.

In my opinion, this is a classic—a view shared by Basenotes (see top).

Okay fragrance, overpowering scent if one is not careful with the application. This is one of those you do not want to spray on clothing. I do not hate, but I do not love either. Every now then, I do enjoy wearing it.

Hahaa, Joop! Homme. My true love.

I know there are people out there who are taking love for Joop! as a good demonstration of the lack of fine taste. I wonder how it would be possible for me to care less about that…

I love Joop!Homme; I have loved it from the first sniff.

Although this has never been a hit in my home country, it is well known that it has sold millions around the world. A real massive success.

This has always puzzled me, because to me Joop! doesn’t smell that obviously something that would please great masses. I think Joop!Homme smells quite bizarre and controversial (indeed) and so the big sells is a bit of a mystery to me.
But of course we have more of these scents that are so successful and still hated by many….Thinking about 80`s, Kouros and Fahrenheit are probably the two that comes in mind first

Joop!Homme is a cold, crude synthetic oriental fragrance. It smells absolutely delicious to me, and believe it or not, mysterious too. It’s really an odd juice.

Joop!Homme has always reminded me of many different thing, but probably the most unexpected resemblance came from few years ago when I was visiting a hardware store: Suddenly I caught a whiff of Joop! Homme (or so I thought) and for curiosity I started to look around to find out who was wearing this tasty scent. I looked and looked, but there was no one there. I didn’t let go, and eventually I was lead by my nose into this thing that had reminded me of Joop!; I hardly could believe it; it was a big black rubber electric cable in a roll. It was kind of soft and it felt very freshly made overall. And the smell of it was so strong and it reminded me SO much of the smell of Joop!Homme!

Like I said, although a flat scent, the aroma of this is capable to remind me of many different kind of things….
In addition to the smell of fresh oily rubber, in Joop! Homme I smell thing like: Floor wax, bitter-sweet English winegum candies, burnt plastic, metal&cinnamon, waxy flowers, bitter-almond oil (or cyanide, if you like), highly concentrated mixed fruit juice, copy machine, mashed raw raspberries, melted PVC and etc.

Bizarre and wonderful. Tasty and intoxicating, and like I said before it is not popular at all in my country.

I just have to ease my hand on application – more than 4 sprays and I probably will drop dead.

People get very heated about this cologne...I used to HATE this stuff. It came out when I was in high school, and I think people used to spray it on their shirts, coats, hair etc etc...it is nauseatingly sweet on the top end...if you spray it on paper or clothing, the top is all you will ever get. The magic in this is the drydown. If you spray it twice on your chest, and then get dressed, the drydown is cinnamon and vetiver. It will last all day, and I have received many complement. The key is in the application and patience. Make sure you give yourself 20 minutes before getting into an elevator, and please, do not apply it to your clothing.

I must confess to a fondness for Joop. It's a feel-good fragance that just never lets me down. One spray is all I ever need and it lasts forever. It may be a run of the mill fragance - but, if it makes you feel good you can't find fault with it. It always seems to be teasing you with notes and harmonies coming and going all over the place. Intriquing.

Joop! Homme in moderation is wonderful. Joop Homme! overapplied is borderline criminal. My wife absolutely loves this on me and she jokes that she doesn't want me wearing it out of the house. Great sillage...great longevity. I don't know why so many have the tendency to overdo it with this one...seems to defy common sense...1-2 sprays is all it takes.

I just don't understand all of the vitriol here. I mean, either you like this one (and I do) or you don't. I think many hate it because they've either blasted it on in copious amounts or have been around others who've done the same. When worn like that, it's perfectly vile. I'll grant you that.

Worn in moderation, though, it's a gorgeous Oriental. (Although teflondog's right in calling it a possible gourmand.) Gorgeous use of vanilla and tonka here, friends. Some of the greatest longevity and sillage out there, too. Damn good buy if you wear it as it ought to be worn. And yes, it can be legalized chemical warfare if worn otherwise.

this is pretty much a love/hate for most people, but it's just average for me. it smells more purple to me, actually. like someone spilled juice on an old violet carpet.

also, this has since been one of the premiere scents of flyboys and gangsters around the world--walking into department stores, asking for "Jewp" rather than Joop!

but uh, yeah. it's quite potent, indeed, but it doesn't really do much for me. it certainly isn't VILE, but it's just okay. definitely grabs your attention, though--if the potentness doesn't, the smell will. if the smell doesn't, the color will, and if the color doesn't.....at least the name will. haha.

When I first smelled this in an airport, I thought it reminded me of oily rubber bait worms one would use for fishing; and that was a good thing! I wore it for a little while, received a few complements, but would occasionally have it react terribly with my skin and have me reeling in the weirdest foul odor. I gave it the mostly full bottle to goodwill. When reading the list of notes, it seems like a logically good-smelling fragrance, but I feel it was the honeysuckle notes that eventually turned against me.

I tried this frag once, and let me tell you, I got constant compliments from the female persuasion! at first, it starts out like candy, then it mellowed out on my skin and I was sold on it! A prego woman craving sweets had her nose on my neck begging me to tell her what was I wearing. This is an instant "panty-dropper" when out clubbing. However, a classmate of mine tried it also but was just a TOUCH liberal with his application. He wound up offending everyone in Homeroom and going home with multiple hornet stings. So gentlemen I warn you, MODERATION is KEY with this scent.

Thumbs up for me because I always get compliments from the women!!!

Although, I must say, this juice is very unique, I absolutely can't stand it!
It's so unbelievably sweet and overpowering, and everyone seems to bathe in it. Yuck!! It really doesn't smell like a man's fragrance at all.
The sad thing is, they made a great version of this called Nightflight that smelled fresh and masculine, but it's now pretty difficult to find. Go figure.
Joop is easily one of the most annoying fragrances I've ever smelled.

i hate this stuff. There is a club in the town near me. when you walk in all you can smell is Joop Homme. almost all the guys are wearing the stuff, i really dont understand how this is so popular. some people may like it, to me this is a younger fragrance but i have seen alot of older people wear it. if your looking for a unusual fragrance that no body else has DO NOT go with this way to many people have it. im just glad i didnt but a full bottle of this and got a sample first.

OK...considering all the negative reviews, I thought I would put my thoughts here. I have read all the negatives and find there is the same problem with all; that being these particular people are spraying TOO MUCH and do not like the longevity. I feel like these are conclusions made in the Twightlight Zone..."hate fragrances that smell great, last long and you don't need to spray half the bottle".

Joop! is a fantastic scent, and yes, I agree with an earlier review that if it came out recently, it would be part of the Lutens line, or perhaps another verison of Opium as YSL has recently done. There is nothing wrong with this scent unless you make it wrong. Plus, I don't understand why people cannot respect the fact that a scent can last 24 hours straight, especially with one spray? Why are we spending money on fragrances?

Joop! has a soft but clean scent. Bergamot and Cinnamon really take over in the first blast, but in the dry down, the cinnamon lingers around while the basenotes appear. The musk is not the musk that offends people, to tell you the truth it is not even something that really appears. I believe it is there but in a tiny drop to somehow holds all the ingredients together. The base/dry down which will last forever produces great sillage and people will smell it. It is also very appealing; a mix of vanilla, cinnamon, sandalwood, and patchouli.

This is certainly a scent that should not be bought as a blind purchase however, it is not something to go crazy on negative reviews for. I find people that just jump to that conclusion really need to consider the point of joop! and what you get for your money. Can you justify spending $90.00 on a 50ml D&G bottle which several sprays last 2 hours on your skin or $60.00 on a 125 ml bottle of Joop! in which 1 spray will last 24 hours on your skin and smells exotic and attractive (these are the reviews people have told me). It is not a controversial scent unless the person wearing it makes it that way. But isn't the problem most of the negative reviewers represent?

Joop! is inofenssive and quite attractive. Maybe there would be more positive reviews if people knew how to use it and/or, if it came out under a different line like YSL or Lutens, which have and do make scents quite similar as Joop!

It would be interesting to see if one of the above bought out Joop! and re-released it as a different name and kept everything else the same....

This one changed everything - for me and the rest of the world. I must admit that this review will be biased as JH was one of my first loves. Yes, I got this while I was in high school from my father. The bottle is an absolute charmer. Starting with the pink/maroon color to the way it fits in your hand to the lettering. Pure eye candy! Is it nose candy, all puns intended? Yes, in all ways and more. The opening strike is a high-pitched, blood-sugar raising lick of a lolly-pop. Heavy no, but it sure gets your attention with Orange Blossom & Bergamot. I must warn you that you must go easy on the trigger, 3 sprays at most. Anything more and this will kill. As it settles down, the floral Jasmine and sweet Cinnamon come to the foreground. You'll notice that the mid-notes are just as high-pitched as the opening. No doubt about it, this is EdP strength. And it is also unisex contrary to the Homme moniker. The drydown lasts for days and marches to a tune of Vanilla, Sandalwood and Tonka. The sandalwood saves this from getting too femme. Also, the Vanilla & Tonka really tame the floral mid-notes down a bit. All in all, a groundbreaking fragrance that turned an obscure and unknown Germany company into a household name that can still be found in drugstores, discount dens and upscale department stores around the world 20 years after it was released. JH ushered in a new era for men which said it was OK to borrow the girlfriend's scarf and squirt some sweet-smelling juice from a pink bottle before going out for a night on the town with the boys. Many a masculine scent that followed borrowed something from JH. We bask in its glory.

Well, if, and only if, you spray yourself with this one time, two at the absolute most, it is nice. Anymore than that and its pure torture to the point of death by noxious gas. HOWEVER, in small (miniscule is more like it) amounts this stuff actually reminds me of very sweet Nag Champa Incense, which I like alot. If worn as such, I find it very appealing.

A thumbs up when used in trace amounts. A thumbs down when overused. Neutral because of the danger involved!

If there's any chance that you'd like to smell like a Dr. Pepper scented air freshener then look no further. The only smell I can clearly discern is cinnamon and that's only after the mighty Joop!!!!!! has had a chance to cool down. Wearing this will offend others, and more importantly, yourself.

I have always had differences of feeling about Joop since I first smelled it years ago. It was attractive on so many people but so many people (you know who you are) wore so much of it and probably still do. Then when I tried it it didn't work on me to my dismay. although it was still a strong fragrance. When it smells great on someone it smells great on them and when it doesn't it doesn't I guess as with most anyone. If I could wear it I would but just can't but will give a thumbs up for those who can.

BAD REPUTATION!

This is the story of Joop Homme.....

Once there was a very beautiful girl in the neighborhood, that you wanted to date. But when you saw her walking around with jerks (week after week, year after year) you decided not to ask her. WHY? Because walking around with those jerks ruined her reputation although she was so beautiful and had such potential.

Do u understand ???

Joop!, my first "real" cologne. First smelled this one one a good buddy of mine about a decade ago, and was wondering what the sweet smell was. Needed to get a bottle immediately and I wore this thing out. Women love this one (at least, I've gotten plenty of attention while wearing this one), but at the same time I know that I don't like smelling it on other guys, so they probably feel the same way about me wearing it. I don't worry all that much about that, as I like it on myself. Joop! can flip on you though, and I think this is why it's such a controversial fragrance, and has gotten so many negative reviews here. I believe that most people find this scent to be pleasant enough WHEN it is applied in moderation, and by that I mean a light misting at most. Apply too much Joop! and this thing turns into a monster with sillage that'd take down a horse.

As I've gotten older my tastes have changed a bit, and I find myself wearing Joop! less and less often now. The truth is, it just seems that it's become a "special occasion" cologne for me now, those special occasions being when I feel like taking a trip down memory lane. Someone has said in a previous review that there are simply better scents out there, and although that is completely true, this one is getting my "thumbs up."

There is something about this stinch I just cant grasp. Like many other reviewers have stated, It has alot of odd, wierd notes going on & it is really not pleasing to my nose. It smells of something Like a granddad would wear, but it also has alot os suprises. I cant wear it & I would suggest anyone who wants it to try it first & go home. Then the next day if your pleased then buy it.

Ah...the classic Joop! I bought this reading some "fabulous" reviews online about it. That was a big mistake. The lasting power is amazing, which for this one is not a good thing. It is sooo flowery and sweet that it induces headaches. Also, it never really dries down to anything nice, it simply stays Super sweet (for hours). I couldn't even wash it off when I wanted to. Simple advice, try it before you buy it. It could be okay, but only for a Really adventurous person..or someone who is not looking for a date.

Love it or hate it, here's Joop! Homme. I hate it. Then I love it. Then I hate it. Makes me feel like the fragrance is inducing schizophrenia upon me. Medicinal. Then sweet. Potent. Bubble-gum. All kinds of weird and all kinds of boring but even interesting. Just a very odd scent. However I must rate on the downside due to the overwhelming overall syntheticness of it all.

Joop Homme EDT has the best longevity of any scent I have ever owned. It has monster sillage which probably leads to a lot of the dislike for this scent - since I frequently smell it all over the place, though plainly it's a going out at night type scent to my nose.

If one wishes to have a more toned down version of this scent, pour some Joop Homme After Shave splash into an atomiser, and spray it on as you would the EDT. It has less sillage and dramatically less longevity - it only lasts about 15 hours - which is still is on par with many of the EDP strength scents out there. (For the record, Joop Homme After Shave Balm is the longest lasting scented balm I've ever come across).

I always have the sneaking suspicion that if this scent hadn't come out when it did, but instead came out now from a niche house, many of it's current detractors would be lauding it as fabulously rich and exotic scent akin to the Lutens' ones, or as a longer lasting reinterpretation of Creed's Original Santal.

Err, this is rubbish! I wore Joop Jump for an evening out a while back and loved it, so decided to get myself some Joop, blind buy. Why I didn't just go for the one I already knew I liked, I do not know, but I've learned my lesson. This stuff is sickly sweet, almost nice but nauseatingly headstrong, and once you've put it on, you won't be able to get away - this stuff fills up rooms instantly and I've even been told off for wearing it! Do yourself and everybody else a favour, go for jump.

Pronounced 'Yope!', this has been one of my favourites for the last 19 years! It is a classic fragrance for the daring and dead-sexy-masculine if you're adventurous, bold and unique.

Not for the faint-hearted, my dears!

A great causal fragrance geared to the men who want to be noticed and to leave a calling card behind This fragrance demands risk! It's should be worn to a club or a rock concert and throw conservative out the window!

Never, I mean never buy this one without trying it first. This was one of my first blind buys, and man was i disappointed. It smells like that thing u spray in the air in the toilet after you've been there. On top of that its ultra strong!

I hate this fragrance. It opens up like an overly cheerful waitress in a lousy diner who decides that after she's said "hi" that she wants to marry you and never leave you.

I know that quite a few women like men wearing this, but I have never figured out why.

It has perhaps one redeeming quality - that it is not compulsory to buy it. I just don't like this at all.

There are just soooo many better fragrances out there...

This is some pretty wild stuff, no doubt... But I definitely don't hate it. Is it incredibly potent? Yep... Ridiculously persistent? Oh yeah... Does it smell like some candy-colored cinnamon nightmare? Some would say yes... And is it great for the office? No. NO! Of all the scents on Basenotes, Joop! is probably LEAST suited to the daytime suit set... But after all that, still there is still something uniquely appealing about this perfume, and I say perfume because that is how I would treat Joop! on that one day of the year when I felt like wearing it. And in so doing I would be able to appreciate its many subtleties, and the fact that this is a very well engineered and dead-sexy scent when worn with discretion. I bought the 75ml bottle on a lark for $25 on sale, and I've never regretted it for a second.

When it was first released , it was different and yes I did wear it ... until the bottle finished.
But that was over 10 years ago.
Joop screams of the 90's try hard sensitive new age men.

The only guys that wear it in Melbourne these days tend to be Turks that think it will endear them with the ladies.

Leave this stuff well alone.

Of all the frags I have smelled, this is my least favorite by far. It's only positive aspect (in my mind) is it has excellent longevity. Of course that isn't a plus if you can't stand the smell, and I cannot stand the smell. It reminds me of an old bottle of cough syrup that's had Mrs. Dash poured into it and then sprayed on me. I do not like it.

Clever how this pink juice is so blatantly powerful.
People who don't like it obviously overuse with application. Try it in small amounts and you will appreciate it for what it is.
A fragrance that makes a statement in small doses doesn't need to shout.
Wear it to be noticed, it'll work.

I had a boyfriend at university who wore this, and I hated it even before he embarked on a mild, and thankfully shortlived, stalking campaign when we broke up.

Joop is cloying, viciously strong, and with that room-clearing plug-in air freshener quality that stays in the back of your throat long after the perpetrator has departed. Emetic.

Yep, it is long lasting, great sillage, it is also a warm fragrance.

Reminds me of being in a sauna with a ton of cotton candy and vanilla beans.. Incredibly cloying (Vanilla) and IMO smells like something an old woman trying to retain her feeling of youuth would wear. Smells like Vera Wang's Princess on crack.. Not my cup of tea.

I will defend Joop because I used the mini that was with the set that my dad bought. It wore out one me now though, but, no one can deny that it is very distinctive even to this day. It reminds me of a visit at an exotic beach, don't know why, it's no where near an aquatic.

Joop! can smell really nice.

A colleague of mine wore this one day and I really liked the smell, fresh, with notes of incense, like a nice razor cream.
I asked him what it was, expecting an old classic quality fragrance and then he mentioned Joop!.
What?, the fragrance many detest of being aggressively sweet and cloying?

The next day he wore it again and while I was working with him that day the smell began to irritate me, yes there's some nice freshness, but it has an odd sour note to the scent and not exactly a fresh citrus one, but rather a gourmandish sweet frozen-yoghurt note.

The top notes seem capable of covering it up for a good period, so when someone who's wearing Joop! walks by you it can smell nice, but staying in the same room for a longer time with that person the smell definitely can become intolerable.
After 10 minutes even the association with frozen yoghurt is gone, it then starts to smell like vomit, covered up by a strong and sweet perfume.

I'm completely agree both with musky_monkey, Renaissance_Man and Ensoleille. I received my forst bottle as a gift the same year it is distributed. I was very excited when I received it, but unfortunately it is a very strong fragrance. The drydown is nice but till you get to the drydown, you are already dead. When I wear it on I feel myself like a huge walking & talking candyfloss. I have to admit that the girls were crazy about it and they would like to eat me just like they did a canyfloss, but eventhough it is like that Iafter a short while I couldn't stand to this sweet fragrance. Becaue of that strong scent I was loosing my appetite and did not feel like to eat and drink anymore, and it begun to gave a headache. But in the evening or the next day the drydown is very nice. I have a love-hate relation with this fragranc. Just 2 drops would be more than enough. I guess the only places you can use this fragrance are close to the poles, but please don't spray a lot of it; they are already melting.

If you survive the topnotes, then the drydown is fairly decent. The middle notes are very sweet and floral but they are not lasting long. The base (which have good longevity) combines a cardboard/sawdust note with vanilla and something that smells burnt; there is some sweetness, too. This may sound like a very weird combination but it actually works. When to wear this fragrance is an open question, though.

I'm reviewing this after ~8 yrs. of owning it. I think I had that bottle of colgne for like 10 yrs so I guess that does say its not for everyday use.
As a fragrance it is a great and unique scent that is sweet and oriental. It seems to linger low--that is if you put on just a little.
But as for buying more today that is a negative. Yes, for one it became quite trendy. And it seems like its for a younger lad maybe because I was in high school when I first got it. I enjoyed it while I had it of course that is why I bought it. So thumbs up for actual scent + thumbs down for wearability = neutral.

I don't know what it is about this scent that drives 14 year olds to swim in the stuff!
JOOP! is one of the few fragrances that I find totally unbearable... it is sweet, pungent, cloying, and absolutely suffocating. Despite this, it sells hand over fist to pimpled teens and adult men alike. I can't work this one out... perhaps just like Gaultier's 'Le Male', it entered the market at a time when there was great demand for male scents that branched away from the citrus/woody norm.
I've always referred to this fragrance as 'lolly-water' as it seems to remind me of the smell of a half-sucked jube. Steer well clear if you're looking for fine fragrance credability.

Simply wonderful! This fragrance is very popular among the gay scene here in Brazil maybe due to the "candy" smell on it...

It was my last Joop! fragrance to buy, but, curiously, the first one I've ever smelt...

Not a day to day perfume, 'cause it's too potent for the weather here in Brazil, but definitely perfect for a dinner in a fancy restaurant...

As "basenotes" says..."PLEASE DON'T SPRAY YOURSELF IN HALF A BOTTLE OF IT BEFORE YOU GO OUT..." I TOTALLY AGREE. I absolutely love this fragrance! I have a friend who wears this constantly...BUT...he smells like he bathed in it! When I smelled it on him I was like wow. THIS COLOGNE IS VERY POTENT AND STRONG!! I wear this at school and this is where my friend goes too. Funny story he was in class and everyone knew he was there because he was wearing Joop and I wore the same one. I got 3 compliments from 3 of the girls there. They asked me..."Mmmm...what are you wearing..." and I told them "the same thing my friend is.." they couldn't believe it!! I knew this cologne was a keeper! So I bought it and I'm glad I did. Ive gotten compliments on this. I love the Cinnamon and Vanilla notes. I feel that makes the fragrance. But as with a lot of potent colognes, men overdo it by spraying too much. The cologne should compliment you not make people get a headache when they see you. So a little goes a long way. I usually spray 4 spritzes. 2 on the neck area and 2 on my head. THATS IT...no more than that. But I suggest you get this one!!

Joop! looks like a funky fragrance. However, it smells funky too (and not in a good way).

The top notes are sweet - its probably the cinnamon taking over. The merging of the top and middle notes introduce a very sweet and synthetic accord which transforms to a strong gasoline note within a couple of minutes - I dont know what it is, but maybe its the combination of the cinnamon and honeysuckle notes. You can even smell it during the drydown, and it is quite ghastly! There are no hints of orange blossom, sandalwood or vanilla. The longevity is excellent. However, Joop! as a fragrance is a not.

Wow! A great name, a glorious pink-purple colour, and an utterly intolerable smell!

Have you ever tasted "Thrills" gum? The gum that you buy from a machine because you want something sweet, and then as you crunch into it your face contorst in disgust at the bizarre medicinal artificiality of what your tongue is being assaulted with? YOu know, the one that tastes like a cross between Jagermeister and cough syrup?

Joop smells alot like liquid Thrills. It smells ok when it's in the bottle, if you like pink chemicals, but on the skin - first of all it's impossible to get rid of. If you ever really, really need a headache badly to get out of work, or school this is the scent for you.

Whatever's nice about it while in the bottle, evaporate on contact with the skin, and the result smells like the natural salt and sweat of the body at war with some toxic chemicals.

On the other hand, my seven year old daughter loves it, and so I gave it to her. I sometimes borrow it to spray inside my shoes.

I dont really know what to think of this scent. When I first bought it I was very fond of it. These days I find it a bit cloying and not very masculine. Even a tad bit cheap smelling. At the same time I find it has something compelling about it. Personally I think Cristoball Balenciaga PH is a better alternative in the same category.

I love this fragrance! Very very very sexy. Not like all the other mens fragrances on the market which are either spicy and dry, watery & insipid (a la most CKs) or just way too Brut-esque. This one is slighltly sweet but very very earthy. The man who wears this is confident, sensual and rather mysterious. Instant sex appeal. I'm immediately drawn to any man who wears this. Man oh man! This was, I feel one of the first 'more expensive' frags I ever purchased, a step up from the Blue Stratos and Brut 33 'd been wearing for years. It is extremely strong, easily overdone, at which point it becomes almost sickening. Only the lightest application is required as the cloying, heavy jasmine and honeysuckle will get right up your shcnozz! You have to be in just the right mood for this one, actually, so does everyone else! I still have a bottle of this from at least 5 years ago that is still 2/3 full I use it that infrequently.

Extremely sweet, not a discreet and barely perceptible sweetness but a heavy touch of caramel. Not incidentally a pink bottle...pink like box of very synthetic and completely unilateral candy. Overdown sandalwood, extremely powdery and extremely strong in the bad sense of the word, like Amen or Lagerfeld classic, all of these reminding of very stuffy and very repulsively sweet sandalwood incense with a hint of extremely sugary, otherwise almost tasteless soft-drink with excessive artificial sweetener. Besides, in larger quanities, it becomes even more unbearable.

This is some interesting juice right here. It strongly reminds me of Dior Poison (the original, not one of the countless remakes) for women. It's much lighter than Poison, sort of like the "top half" of it, if you will. This stuff is ultra potent- I couldn't even imagine what an EdP version would smell like. Most scents don't last long on me, but Joop! stays around forever. It's an interesting blend that's not suited to everyone's tastes, but I like it quite a bit.

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! When I first got this one. I was so ust to frags like CKone and all those softer frags from the 90's that I put it on like I would put CKone on 3 or 4 good sparys....man I stunk and in my cologne induced haze I blamed the joop I thought it smelled horrible!!!! but I recently tried it again and applied one little spray...way better still very powerful and long lasting but not offensive. I think the reason a lot of people don't like it is because they either used to much or smelled it on someone who did but used correctly its a very nice smell. It really does smell like candy to me gut for some reason I also smell a bit of a tobacco in it even tho theres no tobacco notes in it.

This stuff is pungent and assaults the olfactory senses head-on. I must say this is by far the worst I have smelled. It is strong, overpowering, piercing and not masculine; very overwhelming and not recommended for close encounters or day wear. Its smell closely resembles a car odor on Saturday morning after a night where two of your friends vomited, and you tried to cover up the smell with cheap air freshener. This is the most invasive, disgraceful and persistent scent I have smelled... awfull!.

Ever since JH was launched I have flirted with it, fought with it, loved it, hated it...I don't know what to do with this scent. It's definitely masculine and I still don't dare wear it. Still, there's someting indescribable in it that's enthralling to me. The beautiful presentation and the color fit the spice and the warm notes. I understand why it's one of the most controversial scents ever. Need not say anything about sillage and longevity. This has to be the benchmark for everything else.

Joop! Homme, to me, is one of those Wow! fragrances. Wow, because I say to myself, Wow!, why don't more people like this cologne?. And Wow!, how did someone ever come up with this concoction?
I first smelled Joop! around 2002. It took me 2-3 smells before I caught on. But when I caught on, I became more addicted to this cologne than I had for any cologne before it! I couldn't get enough of it and I wore it practically everywhere. Many compliments from wearing it. But this bottle wasn't mine.
After getting more serious about cologne, and 3+ years, I came back to my past favorite, Joop!. I ended up getting a 2.5 oz. bottle for around $35. Not bad I guess.
The funny part is, I have yet to wear it again. It's like, I like the cologne so much, I dont want to wear it. I just want it to stay on my dresser forever or something, I dont know.
In about a month, when school starts, I will start wearing it again. I just can't get enough of it.
A warning though (as has been said over and again)go easy with Joop!. I honestly only used like 1 spray. 2 at the most. This is the only cologne that I have never sprayed directly on my neck. I spray it on my palms then apply.

I don't know whether to classify this as an oriental or gourmand. It starts out smelling like fruit punch concentrate and then later develops into a powdery cotton-candy note. This is well known for being quite potent. I gave my bottle to my friend because I hardly wear it anymore. Now I can tell when he has been in a room because the scent lingers for decades. It's not a bad scent. It's like a more forceful version of Magnetism.

I was once trapped in a car with one of my Greek mates who enjoyed the top notes of Joop!

I had heard so many jeers and sneers at Joop! that I automatically dismissed it. Then I found a sample in a shipment of fragrances and, on a do-nothing day, I decided to try this one out for a good laugh. Well, the laugh was on me. This fragrance merits consideration. The opening blast is strong and obnoxious but it quickly settles down to a fresh top note of bergamot and cinnamon that is surprisingly likeable. From there Joop! develops to a rich, warm, sweet yet very masculine center—a powerful, linear balance of florals, sandalwood, patchouli, tonka and amber. This stage is tenacious, in fact, I don’t think it develops another stage.
It lasts almost forever. It is an excessively sweet fragrance, and I usually don’t care for sweet but in this case, I find its warmth and depth tricks me into ignoring that characteristic. Of course, I wear this only in the winter and I would never spray this scent—it is so strong it should only be misted.

I have a mixed opinion about this cologne. It's really unique, very recognizable, but I think it's done the wrong way. It's too 'something,' maybe too strong or too weird. I don't know, I liked it the first time I smelled it, but it seems my opinion has changed (or my tastes.) Don't make a blind purchase of this cologne, smell it first. It's a love it or hate it relationship when it comes to Joop.

Joop! is crazy, so crazy it ends with an excalmation point! I might like it again for that alone! Joop! was my second fragrance at at age 15! That's a scary picture right there-- some hormone-laden teen boy with a heavy finger and a Joop! bottle! I would not wear it now, but maybe in, like, 20-30 years when all those I see/smell wearing Joop! have moved on to Acqua di Gio, and I am semi-senile! I always seem to smell Joop! on cheesy male-stripper types and older divorced guys with bad hair! Count me out! I like the way my skin wears the scent, though-- it's oriental and ODD!

Ahhhh....Joop. What to say? If you have never tested it, I think that you should. It is like no other scent (male at any rate) that I have ever tried. When I was about 11 I remember really liking this. Apparently one's taste does get much better with age. I bought a small bottle of this just to at least give it a chance. I came very close to getting a headache, it is very powerful. It is also sickeningly sweet. To me, it smells like some sort of women's boutique where a bunch of cheap scents have mixed. That is just my take though. I will say that if you try putting a tiny...TINY amount on you it is much better than if you give the bottle a full pump- like I did when I first tried it. The smell bothered me all day, but after I went swimming I could barely smell it, but it smelled much better than before I went into the pool. So, I would recommend that you do at least try it in a store. IF you do decide on it...PLEASE for the rest of us be careful with not to overdo it.

How could people be saying this fragrance is sweet?? It was soooooo HEAVY!
It's like feminine fragrance trying to be masculine, Flower with tobacco and other overpowering strong scents. It wasn't so pleasant

You either like this one or you don't. Theres no inbetween. I love it myself. It has a nice ambery sweetness on the drydown. It's hard to believe its not an eau de parfum because it's so darn strong! The after shave Balm is nice also, but like the cologne only a few little dabs are necessary. Thumbs up to the Joopster!

Quite ungainly cold oriental. Everlasting attention getter. Smells very synthetic to me. Too plain, does not seem to develop on my skin. Daytime informal scent for mid temp summer days. I found its aftershave (placed into atomizer) to smell surprisingly better and smoother than EDT. I mean being more gentle it reveals some interesting untertones while EDT is mountain-still.

Undoubtedly one of the most original fragrances around. However this juice is just too much. Can´t really handle the overpowering sweetness. If you like it though, this must be a scent to die for.

This could possibly be my greatest fragrance mistake ever. I wore it in the store and liked it, and for the rest of the day and night. When I woke up the next morning I had a headache from hell, and the sweetness was just overpowering. I gave the bottle to a friend who loves the stuff. Just glad I didn't get the gift basket with the soap and other stuff. The color of the juice is intriguing though.
This scent is so sweet/sour, it's as though I'm being dipped in a giant vat of sweet and sour sauce by one of the villians from the old Batman TV show ( an '!' instead of a '?' and the same color outfit as the juice). Will he survive the Joop! Homme? Find out next week. Same bat time, same bat channel!
If I were stocking a fragrance utility belt, I'd opt for D & G pour homme, or The Dreamer instead in this category. Each to his own though.

AGHHH! I can't believe that this stuff is so popular in some regions! Of course, this is my opinion--please don't hate me if you wear it!
