Everybody loves Kouros. It is easy to understand why as kouros is plain strong and manly. I feel lucky that i live somewhere it never got popular to much to to ger worn out for me.

I like Kouros. I have to be in the mood for it and it's not something I would opt to wear in warm or hot weather since the nature of this beast really is suitable for cool temps.

It is feral on my skin. Not animalic, but feral since the civet and amber duo are apparent from the get-go. Coriander always gives a scent some grit ( at least to me it does) and seems to go hand in hand with the feral element here.

Earthy and dirty florals precede a leatherized base of vanilla, amber, civet, tonka, moss and musk. This is a heavy hitter and it's prudent to apply with that in mind. As I am a heavy sprayer with most scents, I judiciously apply 50% of what I normally would wear when choosing Kouros. That seems to be the correct amount for me.

The wife likes Kouros also. Go figure that one out. All my most beloved scents that she casually dismisses as "Eh" or "not bad", Sweet Pea gives Kouros the thumbs up.

So do I.

Kouros is the raging bull of the 1980s - the powerhouse to crush all powerhouses. It's an aromatic fougere on amphetamines, cocaine AND steroids. It takes a delicate hand and lot of confidence to pull off wearing this beast. That being said, if worn correctly, Kouros is an absolutely beautiful scent that brilliantly blends floral notes, citrus, civet and patchouli. It's my favorite powerhouse scent, and one I would bring with me on a deserted island. It's not for everyone, but it's truly one of the all-time greats. A 10/10 rating.

I'll admit that the opening is a bit hard to take. It comes screaming out of the bottle like a banshee and this wall of clove and citrus and flowers and powder incense and artemisia and civet and who knows what else slams you in the face like an oncoming train. Experienced or not, it is a rather extreme opening. But...I like it. It's fascinating.

I don't see the evolution so much as a progression of notes, but rather a gradual fade-out of certain notes. It seems to start with everything present, then focus itself slowly. First goes the citrus, followed by the artemisia, leaving behind a powerful clove and floral accord augmented by the bright civet note. The civet starts to tone it down next, along with the heady florals, and we're left with a surprisingly mellow melange of incense and honeyed powder, with just a hint of that good old civet to add depth. And there it stays to the end.

What strikes me most about this scents is its lack of anything normally found in men's fragrances. There are no greens, barely any citrus, no wood to speak of to my nose. It's a well-blended abstraction of notes that sounds like they ought to be dissonant, but work together to form a massive, sculpted block of smell. The combination of notes is so powerful and so bursting with energy that's hard to pin everything down and analyze it. I understand its detractors, but I still very much admire and like Kouros.

Kouros is a clove based incense with loads of civet, vanilla and sandalwood. it's incredibly powdery and is pretty amped up in it's incense and civet. vanilla provides the much necessary sweetness and clove gives it a smoky feel.
A true masterpiece by the house of YSL along with M7 and Rive Gauche.

Kourous. A fragrance for the adamant man, for the young greek lost in the mist of time, for the secret lover who wants to tell everyone he was there.
Kourous. The statue of a temple, the sensuality of dust, the power of faith.

It's such an intriguing perfume... you move your hand and it's again in the air, trying to lure you out of time, in a distant reminder of a lost greek mythopoesis... and the god who comes out of this dark pond it's a marble god, whit eyes of pure dark and lucent jet.

You will be afraid, the opening is strong, the clove is unforgiving, it will strike for your reminiscence of a perfume you probably smelt in the '80, when you were a child and you were powerless and the world was so strong and so real and yet so distant.
Then the incense will arrive and it will prelude the birth of the young god. the incense will be around always, it will be with you to guide your path to light or to darkness, it will maybe sweetened somehow but ignited by mossy notes but it will be powerful and divine. It will be there, subtle and yet present.

The Sybil spoke, we know the will of Apollo.
Let's go and live by his Word.
Until Dionysus will wake up us in the middle of the night to bring us back.
So the circle will start again.

A marvellous masculine fragrance.

The opening is a combination of gritty lemon, sparkling bergamot, clove, civet, and the beginnings of the rose and honey. It is absolutely marvellous!

As Kouros settles down to its heart the rose becomes more obvious, the greenness of the jasmine arrives, and a smooth, light incense starts to weave its way through the fragrance. I can smell something slightly soapy at this point, and I wonder if there isn’t some vetiver in here. The clove and incense spice and warm the honey and rose at the heart of Kouros, and this combination is addictive.

As Kouros reaches its dry down vanilla tempers the honey (stopping it from becoming too animalic) and oak moss lends the incense a woody, earthy base. The incense and vanilla together smell like a creamy sandalwood that could be too sweet if not for the remains of the civet.

There is more civet in Kouros than in Givenchy Gentleman, but it is more effectively integrated into the whole of the fragrance. If the civet bothers you when you sniff your wrist directly, then don’t sniff your wrist directly: smell the side of your wrist you haven’t sprayed and you will get the effect of Kouros in its entirety. The civet is critical to the whole, and is in perfect balance if appreciated from a distance.

If you like Caron Yatagan, then Kouros might provide you with an alternative on the days when you want something a bit sweeter and more animalic.

If you like Chanel Antaeus, then you might like to try Kouros as an even more sophisticated and masculine fragrance.

If the star anise and synthetic note in Azzaro pour Homme are beginning to bother you, then Kouros might provide you with an equally masculine alternative.

When I wear this, I feel like a multi-billionaire Greek shipping magnate circa 1981. I should be on a Mediterranean yacht with at least three Studio 54 chicks in 'For Your Eyes Only' - style bikinis, Grace Jones 'Nightclubbing' playing on the radio and mounds of cocaine supplied by my mafia friends. This is the ultimate badass scent.

I recently bought a whole lot of men's fragrances cheaply at a department store which is no longer going to be carrying them. Of the 6 or so different fragrances I got (I bought them all blind) Kouros stands out. Its silage and lasting ability is amazing - I think we should talk in terms of Kouros having a "half-life", so powerful it is. To me it is a brash, rich, sweet, spicy, musky blend, that after the initial blast retains its character for a long, long time. So many other fragrances I have tried rapidly lose their character, not Kouros. This is one of the ultimate male fragrances.

I must admit that I used to dislike Kouros and I only started to appreciate it after Basenotes. I still don't find the infamous note unpleasant at all. It is undoubtedly a very strong scent that can easily put people off. Apart from its good longevity and sillage, it has a bitterness to it that I've grown fond of. I find it more smoky than pungent and has mild spiciness that is worth mentioning. Very distinctive and though it can be a little difficult to carry off, it deserves the time needed for appreciation. IMO one of the best powerhouse scents from YSL and there is a reason why this is a hot seller - that one can only understand when there is positive interest.

Wow! I haven't smelled this since 1981 when it first came out. I bought this after high school graduation, my first cologne purchase. I thought the bottle was cool and didn't know a thing about fragrance (I don't know that much now either for that matter). My scent memory was immediate when I sampled this again. I barely applied any to my skin and it exploded in my face. What a composition! Intense, forward, unafraid, very little nuance. I appreciate the presence. What others smell as urine/urinal cake, I smell heavy, decaying vegetation. My wife actually doesn't turn her nose up to this one. Gotta appreciate that.

This brings me back - one sniff and I was transported to the eighties. Bold, brash fragarances, not afraid to get be loud, so different to those of today.

But apart from evoking memories, the scent is still superb. Distinctive, strong, very masculine. The initial notes are harsh but not unpleasant, I can see where the urinal cake comparison comes from, but that doesn't do Kouros justice. After ten minutes, the smell settles to an intoxicating mix of sweet (but not nauseating) honey, musk, oakmoss, amber with hints of leather and civet. Fantastic combination, totally distinctive, a scent that encompassess you rather than is worn, it is so the antithetis of modern fragrances. A veritable masterpiece that changes throughout the day yielding differing wafts as you go from morning to evening.

Kouros the king of the eighties reigns strong today and I remain its loyal subject.

This wonderful fragrances might smell urinous to some people, but I suppose that they want their fragrances to smell nice and clean, dry and airy. I, for my part like my fragrances to smell rather daring, bold and unique, with a strong personality. And Kouros is a bold and daring scent, and definitely stands apart from all those rachitic little Cool Water- and Declaration-clones. Yes, it´s not for everybody and it´s not a crowd-pleaser and you need to have the guts to wear it, because it might smell repellent to some, but I assure you that there will be always someone who will love it and will ask you what you are wearing! Two thumbs up for this masterpiece!!

Ah.. Kouros.. The wild one..

The short version of this review:
To me, Kouros is like Miles Davis's jazz. It could be confusing at first. Even headache inducing. But with perseverance, you can 'train' your senses to appreciate this, and a whole new world of sensory enjoyment awaits :-)

I remember it took me several tries to appreciate Kouros. The first times were awful. It smells like an old, antique.. thing.. I couldn't quite put a finger on what, exactly.
House? Probably.
Person? Not impossible.
I never got the urinal cake/feces association, though. And the SA always described Kouros as "clean smelling". Huh. Weird.

Though I had help from a bottle of Kouros Tattoo, I finally managed to bring my nose around to Kouros. It smells strong, yes it does. It smells old at first, but the 'old' aura diminishes little by little, until nothing remains but a clean, antique, refreshing scent (one can be antique without being old, no?).

I've never once gotten a complaint while wearing Kouros. On the contrary, my girlfriend loves it! She also describes Kouros as "clean". Weird, that.
And I've only _once_ detected a faint association of something disgusting. I never could understand what made it appear, though. The temperature, the wind, the food, everything was of the ordinary.

This is not a perfume that you should dismiss just by the (negative) reviews. Try it. Even if just once. It will surprise you. It will challenge you. And hopefully, it will change you.

Kouros is an absolutely fantastic scent. It is very powerful, so it should be applied with caution. Many people think this smells like urinal cakes; I agree completely. Yes, this isn't a very pleasant association, but it really doesn't matter, because this stuff smells absolutely divine. I don't really know how to describe it, but it seems bitter to me. When I wear it, I find it very difficult to resist the urge to just smell myself constantly. It's very unique and stands out due to its sheer strength. As for longevity, this lasts 24 hours, so applying in the morning, will last until my shower the next morning. Everyone should at least try wearing this once, because it is a fascinating experience. I will say this, though: being stuck in a tight, hot, poorly ventilated room with this is vastly unpleasant. Beware.

Got a bottle for my birthday. Went to buy it with my mother (pretty clever move because I was a bit afraid she would accidentally buy Kouros Sport or something). “Ah there it is!” And I watched in terror as she grabbed the tester. “Nooo, she’ll turn into the Great White Devil himself” or at least say something like “what is this piss?” But no, “Mmm, fresh!” I don’t know if I was actually disappointed with that comment (“So Basenotes went off the rails again and Kouros is quite acceptable.”) At home I finally tried it on paper since I already was wearing something else and I have to admit that on paper it is a dead ringer for Paco Rabanne Pour Homme. Another Calandre – Rive Gauche case? On skin it’s a different story, what they do have in common is the soapy blast which in Kouros stays for a long time. Rabanne famously goes into dank green territory, whereas Kouros is more woody-sweet.

Now maybe, Bourdon is a blunt conceptualist and thought: “I’ll make something that smells of piss and the stuff that masks it. Brilliant!” But I don’t buy it (although I love Rex’s theory on why Kouros is so big in Europe and the scent quite successfully does play on opposites, it is for instance both soft and powerful, macho and feminine, dirty and clean.) Besides I’m not familiar with urinal cakes that smell this way (they’re not exactly my area of expertise as they seemingly are for others but the ones I know of are far sharper and pine-like.) There is at times a hint of something animalic but the honey and soap is far stronger to me. Staying power is unparalleled, it truly works all day; sillage in general is something I have a hard time commenting on as most fragrances stay close to me but it is undeniable that it possesses quite some.

Over the years I don’t have any regrets regarding fragrances but one: that I didn’t run into Kouros when I was 20. Another victim of wrong connotations (it always made me think of Greek kitsch or hairy and obnoxious men.) This is indeed a classic that I strangely haven’t smelled on others here in The Netherlands, Home of Mellon Water. I have a premonition it will stay in my wardrobe for quite some time.

Love this stuff, but it took me time. First tried it 2.5 years ago. Intrigued, but ultimately found it too heady to bear.

Now (same bottle I owned then), I appreciate its muscular nature. Incense and spice writ large. An earthy sweetness. Think Catholic Mass performed in an exotic, Middle-Eastern location. Very Gothic. Very powerful; a growly, turbocharged V-8 if frags were engines. The Mrs. loves it.

Top notes are a roundhouse punch. Dry down settles into something majestic and distinguished, yet sporty. Unlike so many contemporary scents, Kouros does not leave you smelling as if you'd simply showered with a high-priced bar of soap; in this, it is very old school.

Suitable for business or play, provided you take pains to avoid overdoing it w/r/t the former. Either way, the scent will cast its wearer as a very confident sort.

If you are first time user, err on the side of applying too little until you get to know this stuff and how it will react on your skin. Spray it in the air, and let your wrist move quickly through the cloud. If you're unsure, don't be afraid to walk away from it and try it later, at your next cologne counter visit.

Bottom line: This is a stand-out frag with much to offer. But, like cigars and single malts, it can be polarizing and require time to appreciate.

This is magnificent. I too get nothing unpleasant from Kouros at all. I guess this is one fragrance you either love or hate, and I love it. Why didn't I try this sooner. Oh, and BTW, the civet is absolutely integral to this fragrance; without it, it loses all of it's allure.

This has been said to smell like many things: Urinal cake, cat pee, semen. It is an oxymoron. Clean and dirty, fresh and sweet. Wonderful and disgusting. Clove and citrus in the opening and a wonderful musk and amber in the drydown and, yes, unmistakenly a discreet but distinct urinal note thanks to that infamous civet. I think it's true that you have to be european to really appreciate this marvel. We like things that are on the borderline between delicious and disgusting. We eat things that people from other parts on the world would'nt even touch (sausages made of blood, snails, internal organs, chesse that smells like rotten corpses...). No wonder it's a huge seller around here. Bourdon deserves a medal for making such an wonderful, anachronistic fragrance and not only walking away with it, but creating one of the greatest succes storys in modern perfumery. Apply it lightly and it won't fail you! (Semen, by the way, according to a Professor of mine back in medical school, supposedly smells like chestnut blossoms...)

I love Kouros. I don't get any sense of unpleasant odor from it at all, although the initial blast is a little "rough". In any case, the drydown is fantastic and worth the wait. I don't wear it all the time, since I have lots of other scents that I also wear. But it's definitely something that I like to wear in the evening at clubs and restaurants. This is also one of the few fragrances that I wear which has excellent longevity. Most fragrances are gone from my skin in a few hours, but Kouros lasts for an entire day.

Strong, rich, intense, original, recognisable. What else would you expect from YSL? This a fabulous signature fragrance with a personality, but certainly not for everybody. I highly recommend it, but strongly discourage potential enthusiasts from blind purchase. This is a wild beast! I love it.

I'm not a youngster...I'm 50....and I can remember distinctly when I first encountered the fragrance of Kouros. It WAS '81...22 years old and (believe me), being a cologne guy, I was taken by this new smell. I stopped buying any other fragrance...through them all away, actually. To this day...almost 30 years later...it's all I wear. The funny thing is that you really don't find (or smell) any other people....at least in the States....wearing it. I've had women tell me that when I walk into a meeting that they know that I'm there....because they love the smell.

It has become my fragrance...my wife loves it...and my friends, mother in law, mother, and others always ask me if I need any more Kouros...they wish to buy me more during Christmas....it's so funny.

One Christmas I recieved 4 bottles of Kouros...

Well, I'm on my last bottle....but Christmas is only a few weeks away. I'll have more soon.

:) Definately a thumbs up for 30 years going....

The way it used to be. If you wanted a film for photos of your daughter's wedding you would choose Kodak. Similarly if you wanted an edt for guaranteed freshness(relative term) throughout the day/evening you might choose Kouros. Now superceded by " modern" fragrances, it will always be regarded IMHO as the one to make an impact. This however, could be , as well as it's greatest strength, also it's weakness. Everyone knows what you are wearing, it is unmistakeable, perhaps unique. No one will ask you what you are wearing; they will know. Classic is overused sometimes , but not here. Enduring it is, as with few others.

This is a fragrance that you should buy only after testing on your skin for at least 15 minutes. On the first spray you can say very heavy, but wait here it comes. It dries down becomes an amazing scent. As i stated before that is a very skin-dependant fragrance. My friend sprayed it and becomes a total different fragrance. TEST before buy

Let me begin with my biases. I love "men's" frags and have many in my wardrobe. I like assertive scents that proclaim themselves upfront and continue strong. And this one certainly does. After the first cedary blast it becomes warm and enveloping with a slightly melancholy undertone - the "incense" leans toward the spicy clove rather than the churchy somberness of - say - Avignon. Good longevity.

I'm giving it a thumbs up cuz I think it's great 'fume and great for a guy, but I would not wear it myself.

Of course this is wonderful, who could claim otherwise?

A shocking start reminds me of train toilet, but it isn`t at all that offputting but more interesting smell to start with.
Civet loaded musky drydown with a drop of honey is pure heaven, it`s addictive as he*ll. This scent if anything behaves like a drug. Sametime fresh, clean and animalic; it`s amazing achievement.
Kouros was reformulated few years ago, but luckyly the change was very minimal : Coriander at the top was replaced by wild mint. Otherwise the fragrance has stayed the same from the beginng.

Almost unreal fragrance which should be used very moderatly.

This is the cologne that best work with my skin. Two spritz and it stays with me the whole day. I've received a lot of compliments wearing this stuff. A lot of people in basenotes doesn't seem like it but don't let that get in the way if you like it. Kouros transmits power, virility and sensuality. Never have smelled something more sensual than this cologne.

It is one of the most complex (to me) fragrances that I have ever wore. I feel a love/hate dilemma, sort of speaking. I was first introduced to it by a former girlfriend from Haiti, she was very exotic and I think Kouros is just that exotic. There is something primal about it, perhaps is the urine that everyone talks about which does not botter me. Perhaps my nose is not trained enough to distinguish that part of the fragrance. To me is sporty, spicy and "difficult".
It get a lot of attention and not necessarily always good. I think Kouros must be used with caution and not for long period of time.
We like it or not, I think this is also a true classic.

Kouros is anything but boring. It is definitely a classic and one which I have always found quite challenging. This is a scent for me to appreciate but not one which I find immediately appealing. It is obviously a work of great merit. Upon first application I feel a definite gag reflex. It reminds me instantly of public restrooms being cleaned at an airport. One might wonder why anyone would want to smell like this. The magic of this fragrance for me is that when my nose is at my wrist Kouros is disgusting. Yet the sillage itself is actually quite balanced. There is an alchemy which happens in that the aura of the scent is actually quite magnificent and none of the gut wrenching gag notes which I smell up close are present.

Much like a Vagnerian opera can be difficult for a first time listener to enjoy, so does Kouros offer a challenge to many at first smell. It just doesn't smell pretty; yet there is a difference between pretty and beautiful. Kouros is a mighty scent. It is, along with the man who wears it, a definite force to be reckoned with.

Since knowing of Kouros' existence, I've owned several bottles, all of which came in the same dark shade blue box, until recently ( a different shade blue) and from my latest experience with the scent, I have come to love Kouros. Here's the theory:

The first few bottles I bought were from an old outlet store, so the bottles probably were sitting there for a long time. The scent at first was nice, but as so many people point out, the civet is almost-most unbearable. You want to love it but that animal smell just ruins everything. I've been through the love-hate relationship, loving at first, then selling the bottle on ebay because I couldn't handle smelling like a racoon.

Recently I was at Holt Renfrew and came across Kouros and the box which had a different bluish shade. I was curious. Sure enough, the civet is gone. According to the individual working the counter, that god-awful stink is no more; she has found the scent to be updated - probably to attract more people to it...after all the other versions have been taken off the market. So depending on when it was made, you'll be sure to know the difference and actually come to love and respect YSL for its creation of Kouros. This is the way Kouros should have been made from the start.

If you come across even a gift set, it will be an updated scent. Since my newly found love for the updated scent, I bought one for my brother and sure enough - NO CIVET. Everything else about Kouros is the same - thank goodness!!! Kouros haters - give it a shot...you wont be dissapointed. No more smelling like a racoon.

The lasting power is the same - I spray one shot on and its there for at least 12 hours. Go to the YSL website to get the details of the scent. Even by viewing the promotion for Kouros, YSL has made something with potential into something great....a powerhouse.

By the way - thank you YSL for updating this great scent.

This is my absolute favourite! What more can I say - this is the most masculine scent I've ever smelled.
I can only compare it with Aramis Classic, which is the other fragrance that I adore.
But KOUROS is my No. 1 and I hope it will be always in production.
This is the signature scent of a real, genuine man!

Given all the controversy surrounding it, Kouros is a scent I approached with trepidation. As it happens I need not have worried. After Ungaro II, or even Jicky, it's not that much of a shocker.

Kouros opens with a powerful blast of citrus and civet, and I'm guessing that the civet note is what turns so many people off right from the beginning. Granted, the civet in Kouros is in-your-face, rather than subtly integrated as in Ungaro II, but it's by no means mishandled. As the citrus note fades, honey and strong floral notes come into play behind the civet to create an animalic, yet sweet new accord. This dense heart is where Kouros strays dangerously close to the liquid excretion territory inhabited by the putrid Amouage Gold. Luckily, some bracing spicy notes, perhaps clove and cinnamon, pull Kouros back from the brink. (Though not without some suspense.) It's very easy to see how at this stage Kouros could become offensive. It is, after alll, the grandaddy of all 1980s powerhouse fragrances.

As things progress a bit of astringency (vetiver? artemisia?) slips in to balance out the civet/sweet floral accord. From here Kouros launches on its extended and well-executed drydown, with traces of the civet over incense, musk, and vanilla. After a few hours, things even become downright powdery. A surprising end point for a fragrance that goes on so wickedly potent!

All in all, Kouros is a bold scent that was pioneering on its first release. It still stands out tall, like an isolated mountain peak among the timid, undistinguished fragrances that crowd today's designer landscape. Kouros will always be a polarizing scent, as is any that features a prominent note of civet in its composition. Given its animalic character, Kouros's sheer strength and great sillage can also make it hard to wear. In fact, it's not a scent that I have occasion to apply all that often. But for someone eager to make a bold, if rather crude, statement, this is a fragrance to try.

http://www.ysl-parfums.com/gb/index.html: a chypre, spicy harmony with coriander, clove, oakmoss and ambergris. There's a note in Kouros that's always captivated me, but I can't pinpoint it. Probably just the combination of the lot. Perhaps the ambergris. But there's also that nasty note that often makes me feel hot and bothered. The ambergris is more pronounced in Kouros Fraicheur, but the insistent pineapple note spoils it a bit for me. Ever since it took me captive in the 80s, I've been in an out on bail, but now I'm again toying with the idea of getting a bottle of Kouros. No suspended sentence possible with this one.

An iconic fragrance, a work of outstanding skill. This fragrance really does work, but its unusually invasive nature and its instantly recognisable sillage makes it border on the anti-social. Because this evokes such strong responses it is almost impossible to wear. Strictly for indoors. Having said that, it's divine..

Well, nobody has said to me yet that I smell “dirty” although I wear Kouros quite often (maybe, I meet exclusively polite people;-). On the contrary, mainly I hear “it smells somehow… chemical, like some purification’s liquid”; but that’s OK, I don’t even expect from the people around me to “understand” Kouros. I reconciled to that long time ago and I wear it just because of my own pleasure.
At first, the animalistic part of the scent is ably covert; But, after some time it becomes very significant. Kouros is just like a successful first date. At the beginning you are quite polite. Gradually, you become loose… And, at the end, it is right time for the animalistic part of you to show up… in bed… or somewhere else, immaterial.
You can find in this one clove, cedarwood, mace, oakmoss and (my favorite) civet, but one note is extremely important here and I want to say something about it. Here is the story…
There is an interesting religious custom in one part of the orthodox world. Namely, people set fire some incense and with it they go through the whole house/apartment. They do that on days of the greatest saints. People believe that, with this ritual, they drive the devil out from their living space.
It was Sunday and a saint Nicola’s day. I was in my room with a bit of Kouros on my arm. Suddenly, I felt that some smell came into my room and I thought mechanically “Hey, why the whole apartment smells just like my arm!?”. Naturally, it was a smell of burned incense.
Several days after that, I splash some Kouros on my arm and I asked my parents: “Does this smell remind you of something?”.
They didn’t have any dilemma: ”Of incense, assuredly”.
If the devil utters a wish to come into my life I would wear Kouros… just in case.

YSL at its best! This is a "manly" mans scent. Not for the fient hearted. I purchased my first bottle in 1986. Ever since that day, it is my signature. On that note, lets deal with the negative reviews. "Fecal notes" and "urinal cake" seem to show up often. These reviewers need to have their noses checked. Either they are smelling it from the bottle, have the wrong body chemistry, or have simply not tried it. It is different, which is what makes it so popular worldwide.
Kouros-pronounced "Coo-ros", not "caress", is one of the most misunderstrood of men's scents. It is strong and unforgettable, with and opening notes that scares most users, including myself, if I am not in the mood. Bay laurel, artemesia, and bergamot mix effectively, and open like an opera, with clashing cymbals and loud choruses. After 20 minutes, the real production begins with cinnamon, carnation, geranium, and jasmine that gives off sillage that lasts all day! Usually carnation is bitter, but not here. The jasmine gives it the mystery. The wearer becomes like a "censer" bearing exotic incense. All of this, while maintaining, a clean, youthful appeal.
Then the best effect of this masterpiece comes the drydown, which lasts over 24 hours! Vetiver/amber, patcholi/musk, leather/honey and the final note of ambargris leaves one remembering the night before, lost loves, and other beautiful memories of a lifetime of use.
Overall, this scent conveys passion and strengths that are hard to duplicate. Virility and male sexuality, not in "gay" sense. My situation with that is how can something so masculine attract "gays"? Wearing it, I always get ladies come up to me smiling and asking for the time. It is a classic love potion in this sense. For bei ng so popular, I can honestly say, I have never smelled it on another man, That is good! Its not for everyone, just me, I will add selfishly!

WARNING: THIS STUFF IS NOT FOR EVERYBODY.

Hail to the king of the 80's.

If you are a collector/appreciator/connoiseur of fragrances and you haven't sampled this or it is not in your collection...then you should SERIOUSLY re-evaluate your stance.
UNBELIEVABLE!!!!
I wanted to run away at first whiff, then like magic, I was hooked...and so is my wife. The drydown is MAGNIFICENT. Sillage and longevity is like non-other. All the variations of this (Sport, Fraicheur, Tattoo) are equally as awesome (except for Body Kouros).
If this is too strong for you, then try the fresh or Tattoo versions. Lighter, but still with the appreciable punch.

10 THUMBS UP!

If there's a problem it's the amount of application. Definitely works wonders on skin, very sexy.

I used to spray on wet skin after shower, and sometimes spray on wet skin after shower and get back into the shower to drain off the top notes.

I took my darling husband out to the department store to try this one yesterday. I was suprised to have no trouble finding it!

I loved it from the start. It is warm, musky and complex. One spray on a test strip wafted all around us in over a 5 foot radius! I commented that the silliage was amazing and a woman out of arms reach said, "Yes, it does smell nice!". LOL!

Drying out, my DH said that he was afraid that he smelled like he "wet himself". I assured him he did NOT: The oakmoss and civit notes are indeed earthy, but not at all foul. I still like MKK better, but this is a wonderful fragrance.

I should admit that Kouros is the scent of youngsters` perfume-initiation (you could not find a lion to kill in suburbs).
It`s a smell of good soccer players such as Gazza and Winni Jones, not metrosexuals` David Beckham and Christiano Ronaldo.
It`s an olphactive analog of live rotten cheese - more rotten than cheese.

Hi, I'm from Naples, Italy. I remember the first time I wore Kouros, several years ago. A nuclear blast of dry and dirty smell that almost suffocate me. I didn't like it. But, with my great surprise, with time Kouros has grown on me so much, that today I not only like it, but I consider Kouros the most mature and at the same time mad, the most artistic and meanwhile brutal, the most masculine and at the same time romantic perfume of the past thirty years. Sillage? I can sniff the basenotes the day after application, also after a shower!!! Great.

I love Kouros! Most certainly one of the first fragrances that I could honestly say that I was in love with. It amazed me the parallels drawn to the smell of this masterpiece, not the least of which coming from my sisters who regarded it as my "bear pee" cologne. One actually told me that she got headaches from it [and I can not imagine having over applied it].

I distinctly remember wearing this up at KSU to the club one night, and being just inebriated/confident enough to respond to a pair of girls behind me when they commented that "someone smells REALLY good!" I offered my wrist as evidence to them, to which they exploded and required that I dance with them. Suppose I should've followed that one through a bit longer, but regardless, women do enjoy the smell of a man not doused in common, flowery, powdery bullshit...all of the things that Kouros is not.

ah, the mythical beast - kouros the korruptor.

this is a superb and unique fragrance that has taken a lot more flak than it deserves.

yes, it is strong.
yes, it is unique. and like all of the "80s powerhouse" scents it has a distinct identity. it is utterly different from other 80s powerhouse scents like Boss, Antaeus, Quorum, Obsession, etc.
yes, it has a distinct "animalic" and somewhat erotic character. this is entirely to the strong dose of civet - aka cat gonad extract (although produced synthetically these days)
and yes, in spite of this it does actually smell fresh in a very unique way all its own. no aquatic or ozonic cliches here.
and yes... i am afraid there are distinct similarities to the dreaded urinal cake smell. but you really need to get to a particular stage in the drydown to get this smell. the initial blast is strong, spicy and fresh; it is once this subsides and the civet note comes to the fore that the ammoniacal / fecal note gives it a touch of the "UC smell". for those of you who continue to resist this theory, sniff the sprayer of your Kouros bottle. the nozzle will have accumulated a lot of the oils resident in the solution - including the civet, which lingers long after the other ingredients have faded. now tell me this doesn't have an element of the UC smell. but it is not the _same_ as the UC smell.

however:
no, it does not smell like _piss_ and certainly not like semen(guilt by association? perhaps someone will suggest next that it smells like pubic hair?) but it does have a warm, sensual, vaguely fecal / body odor quality that is more erotic than disgusting.
no, it is not an "old man" scent. i am 36 and wear it fairly often without a twinge of self-consciousness. it has aged far better than many of its contemporaries. and as with so many scents that people love to pigeonhole -- if you wear anything with confidence and bend it to your persona, it will take on YOUR character rather than the other way round.

to those of you who are petrified of walking around smelling like a piss stall or a cat in heat - chill out. this is a unique, marvellous scent, and its outrageousness is wildly exaggerated. if you don't give this one a shot and take it for what it is, without preconceptions, you're denying yourself a wonderful olfactory pleasure.

i find that kouros wears equally well in both hot and cold weather.

congrats YSL on a daring and unique scent that is thoroughly deserving of its success.

The initial double shot application of this could make one want to immediately run away and deny any association whatsoever with ones self. After a relatively short period of isolation, one will notice the opportunity to re-enter civil society as the fragrance loses that urinal stall blue cake and porcelain smell, and becomes something incredible; hard to explain; august and almost spiritual that could only be really understood as the result of the via purgativa that had just ended. Not sure others would see it this way, but the dry down on this is one of a kind, beautiful and yet still strong. A blind buy on this is not advised, in fact, it should not be legal. For mature audiences only. Handle with care. Open other end. May become habit forming. Oh, sorry, still smelling this for purpose of this review...What was I saying....?

This is an allkunstwerk of fragrance name, bottle design and fragrance.

Something that a vain greek olympian youth would choose throwing every other fragrance aside with contempt.

As an art historian I adore Kouros. And I salute those brave enough to wear it. I keep a fresh bottle but I don´t wear it anymore. It´s for young men (Kouri) with perfect skin (feel the texture of the bottle),gleaming hair and athletic step.
...the stylized marble column of the bottle...reminding me of greek temples and the white marble in ancient greek statues depicting youths and gods with perfect bodies...

I can understand what people mean when they call this scent pornographic and also when they say things like it smells like an overcrowded men's room. it does have a sleazy "hanging out in the men's room for illicit purposes" quality. Several people have noted the combination of male body fluid smells and whatever scent some companies use to scent urinals. Both of those are definitely there to my nose, but there is also quite a dose of incense, which complicates matters. Yves must have gotten quite a kick out of this fragrance getting so popular. It's pretty subversive really. Kudos to him for that. I have a bottle, but I wear it selectively. Also, it's potent, so apply sparingly and the longevity is forever. You'll still smell it you on the subway after a long night. This one's a sleazy guilty pleasure for sure.

Two kinds of people like this scent: Old men, and enthusiasts. Who dislikes this fragrance? Women.
I must start by stating that I love this cologne. It is distinguished, original, bold, and incredibly long lasting. In fact, I would say that it is probably as long-lasting as Antaeus, although you can wash Kouros off.
There seems no mention of Tonka as a base in the basenotes pyramid, but my nose smells it.
I wear this not only because I love its 3-dimensional quality, but because it has been on the market for over 25 years, yet I have never smelled it on anyone else. Have you?

I can remember just like Yesterday: My father bought this fragrence one of his flights on the free shop. He did not have that much notion about fragrence. Mostly what he used to do was to buy a one he knows or used to buy a very new one or ask to someone there which fragrance is very popular or very new. So he came back with YSL Kouros. It was just out to the market. When I first smelled it I did not like it at all. It was very daring scent for its time if you compare it with the fragrances of its time. But the more I learned about the fragrances and the more I tried them, my opinion has changed. some of the fragrances I liked, I don't like anymore and the ones I did not like now I like very much. One of them is YSL Kouros and I always have a bottle of it at home I see fragrance as wine: The first wine I dran I found not delicious, but after you learn the wine culture and drink more and taste more, then you know what it means, what is good, what is medium and what is... But at the end it is always our own choice.

This is really a scent that needs to work with your body's chemistry, otherwise you are in deep trouble. I do admit that I have detected a vaguely piss-y like undercurrent on those not fortunate enough to wear it. If it works for you, this is not the case at all.

However, this is and will always be one of my favorite frags of all time. Want to smell like every other Tom Dick or Harry walking around the mall? There are plenty of scents for you to choose from. Rather smell like distinct, and elegant in that European '80s kind of way? Think Gstaad, Aston Martin Volantes, Nutter's on Savile Row, et al.

One of my lady friends LOVES this smell on me, and when someone else said, "what is that perfume? you smell old," my friend replied, "hot old and rich, maybe."

Top notes: Laurel, Artemisia, Coriander, Bergamot
Middle notes: Carnation, Cinnamon, Geranium, Jasmine
Base notes: Vetiver, Patchouli, Amber, Musk, Incense

Kouros is an astounding fragrance, but it’s opening really scares me. I get something that smells powerfully “perfumy.” This attack impresses me as somewhat un-masculine because of the flowery-ness of the strong aldehydes, the bergamot, and especially the floral notes rising up from the heart—all these notes dominate to my nose. The middle notes are almost completely floral spiced up with cinnamon and a bit of cloves; the middle notes are actually easier for me to take than the top notes—and with the middle notes, I’m beginning to like the scent. There is even a little gasoline note shadowing the background—a note that I enjoy. It is the dry down that completely wins me over: The incense / honey / oak moss dominate the base and there is a trace of patchouli and vetiver. The base is totally enthralling—it’s one of the richest, most satisfying accords I’ve found in designer fragrances. This base makes Kouros my favorite comfort scent.

If I search hard and use my imagination for those elusive urine notes that others talk about, I can find them; but why on earth would I want to search for them? And as for the infamous urinal cake—well, I don’t really think so, but even if it did smell like that, it wouldn’t bother me. In spite of the fact that I have many scents that I truly love from beginning to end; and, as much as I have had to fight its opening of Kouros, I find myself turning to Kouros over and over again. In fact, when I really think about it, even the raucous opening has endeared itself to me—I think I’d miss it if I no longer could smell it.

Kouros is very strong, but it comes in several versions. Kouros Fraîcheur is an ingenious scent that trims down much of the excessiveness of the original Kouros, yet manages to stay remarkably true to the uniqueness of the original. Kouros Sport tones down the Kouros spirit even more—too much in my opinion. Body Kouros—the one that got me to buy Kouros by mistake, is a completely different scent.

Anyone who is serious about fragrances should at least try Kouros—it is a ‘love it or hate it’ scent that has managed to be a big seller for twenty-five years—that usually spells quality. It is an experience. As for me, I don’t know how to quit it.

Beautiful, strong, masculine, clean...and incredibly powerful. The Greek tragedy of scents, for it was his own strength, the young Kouros, that did him in.

I have nothing to say but wonderful things about Kouros...just don't ever (EVER!) spray more than two shots. One spray out of the shower is excellent and will last you well into the evening.

The measure of a "nose" is how well he or she can appreciate challenging fragrances... the fragrances which do not demand to be loved immediately ... the ones which contain some "dissonance", as in jazz music... KOUROS is definitely one of those fragrances. Among the fresh notes of lime, honey, amber and leather are indeed notes of civet and musk which are not unlike tomcat's piss. And therein lies the magic of the fragrance. People who truly know and love the finest of fragrances know that purely "sanitary" scents are a little bit boring... the best fragrances have a hint (or two) of the salacious about them. A soupcon of raunch. KOUROS does remind me a bit of Creed ORANGE SPICE, but the Creed is so heavy-handed and cloying... KOUROS lingers in just the right way. If anything, KOUROS's spiritual ancestor is the original SHOCKING! by Elsa Schiaparelli in the 1940's, another scent which was "shocking" because it also had a provocative note not unlike urine. Legend has it that Schiaparelli sniffed the culottes of Parisian ballerinas as inspiration for SHOCKING! KOUROS, while modern, was really a nostalgic fragrance in many ways when it emerged in 1981.

Now I get it. I get why this is a really controversial fragance.
I bought it today, blind buy, just after reading the comments about it. I was looking for a nag champa fragance and decided to give it a chance (I have to say that I can't smell nag champa in it at all)...
All I can say is that if I had tested it before I wouldn't have buy it. And it would have been a mistake. Why? because I absolutely like this fragance!!! no, wait, I hate it!! no no, I love it!! damit, I think I have strange feelings about this one...
The top notes are AWFUL, now I understand the comments about urinals and old men's houses. But if you can wait until it settles down, slowly, calmly merging with your skin, you'll get the richest and darkest scent you've smelt in your life. And yet, there are times when even five hours after wearing it, I get an unpleasant feeling I can't explain.
Give it a try. Try it on your own skin if you can and see what it's like for you. I didn't know how complex the world of scents could be until I got this one.

All scents / smells are learned / learnt from birth. I first experienced this scent in the late 80s when a teenager; I loved it without any reference to toiletes and urine etc. many reviewers here must have visited or have the filthiest toilets if they think this resembles that. Would the major French house of the time formulate and put on the market something that did? This is a great scent, without being the standard bearaer for it, and I bet my bottom dollar/ real/ pound that most reviewers review having only bothered to smell the top note mixed with alcohol and not wait till the basenote. One of the mens best of al time.

At first, I totally disliked this scent. It felt so so heavy and able to strangle someone without even touching them. But I grew to like it. I studied the reactions of others to this smell. The girls like it and say it gives the man wearing it a certain distinction and character. Not everyone is capable to rise to its high level though. This smell teaches the others that he who wears it is in charge. It lasts all day long and leaves clouds of smell behind. One shouldn't exgerate with more than 2 sprays. It's a very classic smell and I think is used at its best during the cold season.

I don't see how this is such a revolutionary or original scent. It's quite nice and classy. Makes me think of a more subtle Paco Rabanne. However it does smell kind of like slightly fermented pee pee if you put too much on, which is very easy to do. It's a sweet urine smell, as if you've just eaten a box of Cap'n Crunch before filling up the bottle, but still, I prefer my literal eau de toilette notes to stay in my bol de toilette. The spray mechanism makes it hard to control how much you use, so I find I have to wipe some off after spraying - or use one spray and spread it around. If I do that it's "safe" for every day use.

Good stuff -- very masculine, very rough at the edges. This is, however, one of those things you either love or love to hate. As others have pointed out here (as with Polo, along the same lines), this one must must MUST be worn with caution, as too much of a good thing can be a very, very, VERY bad thing.

I first got hooked on Kourous when I saw the bottle. So beautiful in it's simplicity: the clean, strong lines. Then I felt the bottle. The opaque white glass like marble. Then I smelled it. I've never smelled anything so evocative. I had to have it. It was 1987. I had the pour bottle of edt, which in retrospect is a good thing, because with Kourous, a little dab'll do ya. Seriously. A one and a half ounce bottle should last a good two to three years. You only need a dot or two on your neck and you are set for the day or evening (or both!). The problem with the spray is that you can't control the amount and one spritz is way too much! I think that's why so many people can't stand it. They've smelled someone who sprayed it on and it knocked them over. Kourous original should come with a warning label. However, that said, Kourous, when used properly, is sublime. It is one of the headiest, sexiest, mind-alteringist fragrances ever concocted.
Someone mentioned it has civet, which is a kind of animal musk and I think it has ambergris (which I think is from whales). Whatever it is, it is surely the definition of animal magnetism. It is a sexual fragrance pure and simple. But remember to use it very sparingly. Let it sneak up on someone and watch the results, male and female. The only other cologne I've used that caused people to actually get, well, horny, was Paco Rabbane Pour Homme. I've known people who take it (Paco) to bed with them, and it's not so they can get some shut-eye!

One of the most controversial fragrances around, although I dont really know why most of the negative reviews here associate Kouros with piss/urinal cakes etc. Whatever! This is easily the best of YSL.

I am a fan of Creed Orange Spice, and its obvious that it was the inspiration for Kouros - the top and middle notes are startlingly similar! A mix of tangy citrus and spices, the top notes smells fantastic. The drydown is where most of the opinions are divided - unlike Orange Spice, Kouros makes use of a "civet" note. Civet is a musk extract obtained from the African Civet Cat (Civettictis civetta), and it can be quite strong if used in large quantities - however in Kouros, it is elegantly mixed with other notes of clove, amber, vetiver and patchouli. Its this intoxicating mix of fresh and spicy top notes and the more ambery and unique drydown that makes Kouros special. The sillage and longevity are high...no more than three spritzes should be used ! Its also a top compliment getter.

Two thumbs up !

Very, very controversial fragrance around here. I had to try it a couple of times, at first I was put off, not by any public ret room images, but by it's raw 80s-style power. What made me tip to buying it was my girlfriends reaction... =) And since that I have come to madly love it for its raw masculinity, its weather- and occasion-wise versatility and its great longevity.

If this one is too strong for you, you may want to check out one of the many newer and lighter versions.

Kouros is a great scent. I think that the negative reviews of it come mainly from people who are either very young or who have really only gotten interested in fragrances in the past ten years. I say that only because our “noses” have changed over that time, from distinctive fragrances with presence and a kick to bland, sporty, detergent-like fragrances that all smell like the wearer just washed his clothes (Issey Miyake, Bulgari pour home, Ultramarine, etc). Kouros is certainly fresh, but it is also distinctive and has a definite presence. It may take some getting used to, but when you put it on, you know that this is no Allure Homme Sport or Tide with color-safe bleach

This is one fine, superb and very complex fragrance - woody, spicy, musky, mint all in one. Very long lasting, and when you are in good restaurant and well dressed, you feel like millionaire. Goes on a bit strong but mellows out after a while into a very pleasant smelling and long lasting cologne. Don't spray it in the neck - it's a bit too powerful so close to the nose. Personally I find it smells better on other person which is a good reason for wearing it if you want to attract some attention. When it settles on the skin it's a great aphrodisiac. So far I haven't come across a scent from Yves St Laurent that I didn't like. This is a classic that remains sensual even after 20 years in the market and should always be part of any real man's collection. If you don't want to smell like other guys - use Kouros!

*Kouros*, is named after, and the bottle is model on, a specific kind of statue that began to appear in ancient Greece and was the original form on which all subsequent forms of classical Greek sculpture took as a point of departure. The kouroi appeared out of nowhere, a development in the plastic arts that could have never been anticipated from what came before. *Kouros* is exactly like its sculptured namesake, a monument of originality, coming out of nowhere, and, like the Kouros itself, it strides determindedly forward, muscular, unapologetic, unyielding, a force to be reckoned with. If ever there was a more aptly, thoughtfully named fragrance, I’d like to know.

It is interesting to see some of the strongest opinions and reactions on this site on the Kouros page. I love this fragrance. I smell lime and spices in it and love the incense at the base (a favorite note in many YSL's). For years this was my signature scent and I wouldn't wear anything else, didn't feel I needed to. Very classy and masculine, good for any weather and any age. Wear in various doses for a variety of effects. I don't get any of the dirty animalistic notes mentioned in some of the posts.
I definitely agree with the previous post that this isn't your generic aquatic scent so common these days.

Controversial scent indeed! I as others in this forum found Kouros to be dated, funky, and loud. I thought, who could wear this stuff? But as of late, after trying on hundreds of the simpler new scents and getting used to the favorites that I own, I suddenly found myself liking this one after a single spritz on my hand: The stuff lasts forever, and is so rich, woody, animalistic, and courageous! In the winter, it is a great scent to wear; for the summer, there is the summer and sport versions, which are lighter and maybe more manageable. This scent is to be tried to be believed! Acquired taste scent, scent which grows on you after you initially are repulsed...give it a shot. :-)

Think "pretty." Think "girly." Think "floral-y"

Now think the absolute opposite of all three. That's Kouros.

Say what you will, Kouros is the very essence of what most of us would call a "masculine" scent if one defines "masculine" as an opposite of all things "feminine."

Piss? Armpit? Sweaty testicles? Well, yes, Kouros smells a little bit like that but only figuratively, not literally. The thing is a work of genius in that it takes the most animalic composition of this-close-to-foetid notes ever squirted into a bottle and comes up with a long lasting, heady fragrance with a warm, almost sweet grassy drydown. This is one that only a girly man would disdain (and yes, that's a challenge pilgrim!)

Buck up Mister and wear this one like a man!

Though I can understand the controversy on this particular scent, I personally like it quite a bit, and my partner LOVES it on me. On me it goes a bit animalistic, but more clean, like fresh perspiration after a workout, combimned with a soapy, crisp note.

Probably the biggest source of controversy on the male fragrance discussion board up to date. EVERYONE has an opinion of Kouros, this one just doesn't allow neutrality... Okay, I'm on the positive camp, a great classic in my perspective, but as so often with those - keep the application moderate. That way you'll have a honey/incense/clove/amber combo signaling cosmopolitan masculinity all day, AND night - bizarre longevity, again like the majority of YSL's. If you can't take the Great White Devil, as Indie Guy calls Kourous, by the horns immediately, there are plenty of summer and sport versions working as a great introduction. Once you're ready to face the beast - he'll reward you big time. =)

Lovely. I have just bought this perfume on the basis of the reviews here. It is a distinctive and lasting scent, not fruity or sweet but strong and male. Very enjoyable.

Wet, hot, sticky, pungent, sex in a bottle. This is quite possibly the most pornographic scent I have ever smelled. Urine, sweat, ammonia, soap, it isn't polite, it isn't subtle, and it isn't afraid of all of those whimpy fresh fragrances.

I bought Kouros after getting Kouros Cologne Sport (a personal fave, warm and embracing, yet standoffishly odd and bitter), and the Cologne Sport Eau D'Ete Summer Version (Which is the safest scent yet to spring forth from the Kouros bloodline.) Well, the original Kouros took me a LONG time to warm up to. I would occasionally sniff it at a testing counter, and each time walk away with a frown. "Too dated, not for me", or "Damn that's some odd stuff!" Finally I snagged a bottle, and now I can see why it was such a big seller internationally. While its not going to be an everyday kind of scent, it is an essential "Rosetta Stone" in my collection. A scent both animalistic and otherworldly. Heaven and Hell collide in this ivory bottle.

The Baron de Charlus once delivered a lecture to the Society of Perfumes in Paris concerning the Mysteries of Kouros. 'Messieurs and mesdames,' he began, 'I am aware that the world is divided into two camps: the lovers and haters of Kouros. In an impressionistic ramble I shall explain why this is so. Kouros is a fragrance of gross richness where a honeyed sweetness joins hands with the blunt smell of semen, where hot Mediterranean suns glisten on bronzed and sweating bodies, fading to sultry nights of passion. It conjoins love and hate; it occupies a domain that unites a lazy sensuality with horny handed toil and where forever lurks the threat of danger and barbaric cruelty. Notice how it achieves its extremes of masculinity without any of the conventional mannerisms of deep leathery reticence - it is too hot blooded for that! Notice too how it is redolent with the ancient mystery of Homeric Greece - warriors, heroes, demigods, fabulous beasts, dreadful wars and mythical voyages. All in all, love it or hate it, messieurs and mesdames, I think you will have to admit that Kouros is one of the most blatantly sexual and poetic fragrances in existence - and truly unique! You do not have to wear it or even like it but I urge you to appreciate it as a true creation of the perfumier's art!

Without a doubt, It's a strong fragrance, not for every one. I Particularly wear 2 or 3 sprays and it smells very good! For me It's an evening/night fragrance. Classic, I would even say glamorous!
Just an advice: if you don't like clove don't stay close!!

Ah, the infamous Kouros. How can it be? A consistent sales leader across Europe. Kouros is much bolder than the politely correct fragrances of late which seem to be engineered to avoid offending by not saying much.
But for those times when one does want an aura of the dynamic, rather than either the ubiquitouos soft drink smell or candy and bake goods, Kouros will satisify. And then some. It's not for the fainthearted but for a real fougre experience, and animal appeal, I still like to go for the original.
Kouros starts out brisk and spicy to catch attention even in the most crowded venue, and the lasting incense in the base carries into the cozy wee hours, if you know what I mean, getting better and better.

I'm 26, but spent a lot of time around my older sisters' boyfriends in the 80's. So all those scents from that era are ingrained in me as favs- Polo, Aramis, Kouros. Kouros is one of my significant other's favorites. She says it smells like dryer sheets, but she likes it anyway, because she likes the smell of dryer sheets!!! :)
At any rate, it is a bit strong on top, but after about an hour or two it warms up, and the warmth is with you all day. Its a very dry fragrance, but warm.

I wore it for years in the 80's! It was my signature scent! Now, my signature scent varies from week to week!!lol It is a rich, seductive fragrance that lingers and penetrates the skin! A girl that I knew back then wore it exclusively; because it was Cher's favorite scent!. She was known to wear it, and bathe her boy toys in it as well!! LOL! "If I could turn back time" :-) lol I have to go find the old mini I have of it for a revisit!!:-)
