L'Eau D'Issey pour Homme is destined to become a classic. It surprises how it can be both fresh and long lasting.
It opens with a spicy citrus bouquet and the heavenly woody-floral drydown is nothing short of amazing! The development is perfect moreso it towers over AdG or any other edt of this category.
Please ignore critics that pan this due to its popularity - it is sublime!

Despite the fact that it is really popular this fresh and clean citrus scent is very pleasant.
Most suitable for spring summer times.

I hate citrus lemony synthetic scents, but If I have to choose one this will be
my choice.Fresh clean sour turns to sweet in the dry down which lasts.....
I still didn't like it but I can accept its a nice clean scent.

an amazing citrus based scent with the right balance of spicy and woody notes which still manages to keep this scent fresh. lasts forever on me. i think many overlook the basenotes. it has one of most musky, earthy & woody basenotes which to an extent is powdery. a winner in everybook there is. a must have in every collection. a great daily wear and yes, a hit with the ladies. this one is not my favorite if the Issey's, it's definitely is the second best. the firts place goes to Bleue

The word "zing" comes to mind when I tried this. I'm a fan of well composed citrus fragrances, and this is definitely one of the best, if not the best.
Slightly reminds me of Clinique Happy, but much, much better.
I could use this one as a pick me up on those dreary days.

Thumbs way up.

A classical citrus fragrance. Not better, nor worse than tens of other citrus colognes.

Maybe it's just me, well, probably just me but after the top and middle notes have settled, the base note really just smells like a wet green-tea bag, and I'm really not into that although I really liked the top note, as well as the middle note...

The silliage is great - when it lasts. On my skin, longevity is a factor for Issey... Some reviews have put it as long as 24 hours even after washing, but It's been six hours and I can't smell anything but the wet green teabag on my wrists. I can smell the flora and the initial freshness that Issey delivered six hours ago on my shirt, but that's not really where I want it to last.

L'Eau D'Issey gets a neutral.

Truly pleasant and dignified fresh male scent that has so much layer to show, story to tell and people to seduce. It is almost a crime to wear it in winter though: this must be reserved for lazy summer days. I had used this when I was like 15 I think.

My complaint: the same thing with Cool Water, Envy for Men, Dolce&Gabbana pour Homme, Le Male by JPG etc.: so many men are using it, it has no depth, character, or charisma left to it. Even I had used it as a 15 year old pimply boy. No names, who knows nothing about masculine elegance, or really annoying guys you might know, who should never touch anything this nice and pure, are polluting the perception you might have about these fragrances, and that is exactly what has happened to Issey.

How can I use this scent out in the public today (and believe me, I am ballsy about my fragrance choices) when so many classless/faceless men I know are wearing the exact same scent? I don't want to share my personal choice with so many other men per se, and it cannot be helped.

Nowadays, I am using Obsession for Men sometimes with great confidence and happiness, since it is not the 80s, not many men wear that gorgeous creation anymore. Maybe 10 years from now, Issey will speak volumes again. But for now, it is just used, abused and bruised to me.

Fantastic creation though: almost like a gorgeous suit or shoe in a store that has been tried by so many other men before you.

A fresh clean slightly metallic green scent that lasts... what? A fresh scent that lasts? It reminds me a bit of Azzaro Now for Men. PS The "Intense" version is very different.

This shares a note with Escape for men, and yet it's so much more pleasant. It is a little much, at first. However, as the top notes cool off what remains is spicy and woody. The only strike against it is it's popularity, but we can't go tossing around the down thumb because the perfumer did a fine job.

When I first smelled L'Eau D'Issey I wasn't all too thrilled with it. Then the smell grew on me. I added it to my collection and noticed almost immediately thereafter that girls were now standing a lot closer to me as I waited in line, or stood in the elevator. They would even sit closer to me in class!!!

Overall, I strongly that this is one of the overall best men's fragrances. The notes are seamlessly balanced, and the drydown is nothing short of stellar. L'Eau D'Issey has an energy, a 'zing' that makes its wearer stand out. This is really powerful stuff. The key to this fragrance is the drydown. I sprayed it yesterday at noon before going to a party at 2 pm. A girl complemented me on my smell 9 hours later!!! Don't let the strong citrus of initial application fool you; give it some time and let the good times roll!

Yes...I was taken in by all the positive talk of Issey Miyake....yes...I think it's nice...but nothing special...in fact i have gone off it slightly...It's another scent that is instantly recognised, which I think is a bit of a negative thing.I prefer the L'Bleu fraiche

there's enough details on how it smells like so i'll just skip that and say that having 5 125ml bottles of backup, this has got to be one of the best scents among the ladies, its no secret. But on the serious note, i love how something this floral based can be so easily identified to be gender-specific. This is the first scent based alot on floral notes, that i feel in love with. prior to issey, my scents were main the 60s to 80s classics, or the 90s big guns till this gentle scent prvided me with a whole new perspective on floral based male frags.....

I always been into the heavier woody scents. Dont know why...I always thought the fruity ones lacked personality, they always seemed to fade away within the hour on my skin. . This one proved me wrong. This one is so overwhelming lemon like (the Yuzu) but still pulls it off. I dont wear it that much because it so popular and i dont want to smell like everybody else. But eventually i always grab it, use it and feel great. And i know it will stay in my collection...

What can I say, this is my favorite scent, and when you want to "get fresh" and go out, this is the stuff you need to try before you but, very well put together, sophisticated, classy, eye opening, but not brash, and definitely not harsh.

Pimp C, R.I.P man, this was his favorite cologne, probably his only, Mary J. Blige's favorite too. Man............WOMEN LOVE THIS!!!!!!!

This is a first ballot hall-of-famer for nightclubbing fragrances besides Le Male, Desire, Dreamer, A*Men, and Fahrenheit. I've been using this since '94 and it has never begun to disappoint me in any situations filled with women. A lifetime keeper for me.

I have grown tired of this scent after having worn it on and off for 14 years. Once you've sampled more niche fragrances this starts to smell a bit synthetic. That said, even though every man and his dog seems to have a bottle and it has been imitated countless times, I still think that this is the best of its kind. Top notes verge on being too sharp but middle is simply lovely and it stays 'fresh' for hours on the skin. A smell that can cut through a smoky bar and a bona-fide modern classic

That day I was sitting on the bus on my way to work. Next to me was some young girl (apr. 18-19 years old). I was thoughtful. Suddenly I felt something on my shoulder. It was her chin. Her nose was quite close to my neck. She had a little smile on her face and it was so obvious that she was enjoying. Her nostrils were spread, her eyes were closed. It was no doubt; she liked my scent very much. She didn’t say anything and there was no need to. I must say this: She wasn’t aware of my existence, not even for a moment, and because of that the whole situation was even more likable.
Well, sometimes we receive speechless compliments and they can be more convincing than “oh, my God, how good you smell!!!” compliments.
By the way, I was wearing L’eau d’Issey that day.

Men and women alike really appreciate this scent. The top notes are almost pungent, but in a pretty way. It is kind of a pretty scent. Amazing in summer. AMAZING. In heat. But boring in fall. Nice in winter. That's how I experience it. Dry down is really something. Spicy fresh. Woody lemon. I really like the bottle too. Get it.

There’s one thing I’ve noticed about most newbie Basenoters – they usually tend to latch onto the ‘holy trinity’ of designer scents that, automatically, creates the perfect foundation for any man’s fragrance wardrobe: Le Mâle (cold weather), Envy for Men (special occasions and dates) and L’eau D’Issey (warm weather). Although these may not be the first three scents that a newbie Basenoter will purchase, chances are they will definitely be among their first 5-10 full-bottle purchases. I, myself, have been a victim of this ‘beginner’s crutch’ and it, admittedly, took me some time to bring myself to remove all three from my wardrobe without feeling even the slightest bit of remorse.

L’eau D’Issey was actually the final one that I managed to weed out. A good indication of its ‘superior’ quality compared to the other two, no? Well, not exactly (they’re all just as synthetic and flawed as each other). The fact is summer scents, with decent longevity, are incredibly difficult to come across (especially for those not in the know). Therefore, any reservations I had about L’eau D’Issey were put on hold due to its stronghold on my arsenal for warmer weather (which wasn’t particularly impressive back then). It was only after a period of time (during which I encountered better quality and longer lasting scents for spring and summer) that L’eau D’Issey eventually lost its grip and fully revealed itself for what it is – a highly synthetic and artificial smelling yuzu (grapefruit) composition with average lasting power.

From the very start, I always overlooked the fact that (upon application) it always made me sneeze; for a person who rarely suffers from migraines, for quite a while, I never questioned whether it was the sillage from L’eau D’Issey that was responsible for my subtle headaches; and I always found myself refusing to accept that its longevity wasn’t as great as originally thought (skin chemistry or olfactory fatigue were usually held accountable). Yes, the fear of not having something appropriate to wear on warm days worried me, and L’eau D’Issey successfully tapped into this fear and preyed upon it for quite some time. Now, luckily, those days are long gone…

L’eau D’Issey is a great starting point for any newbie but please bear in mind the hazards mentioned in the above paragraph. If nothing else, it does serve as a decent ‘starting out’ fragrance. Just don’t expect anything more from its shallowness, as your nose becomes more sophisticated, or you may end up being sorely disappointed.

Smells synthetic to me. However the dry down is absolutely amazing. This has woody notes infused with other ingredients to well that it is overall soothing and very mild (i detect light smelling north-indian sandalwood, which is not as strong as majority of fragrances using stronger smelling mysore sandalwood).

Oh and one more thing...this works like a charm w/ the ladies.

I don't know Vibert nor am I am I as articulate about fragrances as Vibert but I have to agree about L'Eau D'Issey pour Homme. Can't take the fragrance. I don't care who wears it it smells like chemicals to me and I've tried it on my skin and it did nothing for me. I've smelled it on countless (COUNTLESS) others and didn't care for the smell on them either so it must be the fragrance. Some things are for some people and some things aren't I guess. For those who love this fragrance, and obviously most here love it, enjoy it in good health.

A potent and singular citrus fragrance. I think that the yuzu and the aldehydes are the key to the uniqueness of the top notes, which are as tart, refreshing, and sparkly as I want an opening to be. It’s special, it’s attention getting, it has good sillage, and it doesn’t appear to be widely variable on different skin types. It’s not a beautiful accord, but it is bright and lively and fresh, and very long lasting for a citrus accord. The middle notes add florals and spice to the mixture, while maintaining the liveliness of the opening; much of the tartness from the opening remains, and the freshness becomes smoother — a touch more elegant than the top. I believe that L’Eau D’Issey is primarily a linear fragrance because it retains the opening’s tart freshness through the drydown. I don’t love this fragrance but I like it: It is a very good one because of its uniqueness and freshness, its excellent sillage, and its wonderful longevity. The warnings about spraying too much and risking the cloying headache are oh-so-true. Best to be prudent in application.

Anyone who follows my Basenotes posts and reviews knows that I’m no fan of aquatic scents, and hence not predisposed to enjoy L’Eau d’Issey. Indeed, I find its brash, synthetic, calone drenched opening repugnant. To me it smells less like the ocean than like an industrial chemical – which I suppose is exactly what calone is. I don’t detect much change as the scent ages, except perhaps for a few bright flowers and a helping of artificial fruit flavoring. (Think green Lifesavers.) Two or three hours later I’m left with a harsh woody (cypress?) base, but as Issey transforms it passes through a phase that I can best describe as rotting seaweed.

One thing I dislike about L’Eau d’Issey is that its ozonic note is not even minimally blended. The result is crass and crude, as if L’Eau d’Issey has its naked butt up against the school bus window, mooning any motorist unlucky enough to pass. Paradoxically, I have to give the scent some credit for its brashness – it’s far less bland than the thousands of limp aquatic imitators that have come in its wake. As much as I dislike it, I must also acknowledge L’Eau d’Issey’s significance in the history of scent. It is a landmark composition that epitomizes the past decade’s dominant fragrance genre. So though I rate it very low, it’s not so much because I think it smells bad (which I do), but because there are so many more well-constructed, nuanced, and sophisticated clean aquatic scents to choose from.

I do not understand this fragrance. It smells good, but not in the way I want it too. It is a very cool fragrance. Imagine being in a pond with lillies in the spring.. That is the eviornment I invision when I smelll this.. Now I remember a post when a member said he gets compliments on this fragrance and I cannot imagine the amount of this light fragrance he would wear lol. HE must have been wearing his weight in D'Issey because other wise this does not seem to be very strong. But it does last, just unless you are really close to someone or unless you have a 24 oz application of this stuff it probably wont come off the skin much. The Lavender, amber and blue lily notes are great. IMO it comes off a little like salty water.. like the womens version. Idk about this one, maybe I shall return

I really wanted to like this fragrance... I really did.... but the descriptions given here must have bypassed my olfactory system. All I could smell was a lemon-squash type of odor, very light and quite flimsy, and with not much else going on underneath.

I experienced this back in 1999 when someone walked into the room and instantaneously got everybody's attention. To me, this is one of the king of colognes, a classic that will never die and a must have for any fragrance enthusiast.
It smells like coldness. Imagine taking a deep breath of cold freezing winter air, with notes of lemon and something blue and a bit of cedarwood. It lasts forever. Even after washing your clothes. Use sparingly, otherwise everybody for miles will know you are wearing it. Also wins the award for the most copied fragrance ever.

I want to open by saying that I love perfume;the olfactory attribute of all being is I believe the most fascinating and complex.
L'Eau D'Issey is one of the most sophisticated EDTs I have come across in a while. Its Floral in a very masculine way (I don't know how Miyake pulled that on off...but he did !)It starts off strongly with the Yuzu and other fresh ingredients on the top notes. Its longevity is really interesting - When first applied L'Eau D'Issey's projection is very strong but as time passes by it mellows down and the base notes cling onto you very closely but still distinctly present to people around you ( I guess the Haitian Vetiver is to blame for that!) .The base notes can last on your skin for a good 16-24 hrs and on your clothes....forever in my observation.
Its as though L'Eau D'Issey evolves into a more personal fragrance as the day goes by.This is the kind of perfume you at times want to wear when alone at home just that you don't share its wonderful fragrance with anyone. Its been around for a good 13 years now and grown quite common BUT is still a very very personal favorite.
Viva Miyake...!!!

one of the best citrus scents.it opens strong then it settles down to a linear mossy citrusy scent.so the best part is the drydown. i was dissapointed by the longevity.it lasts 4 hours max on my skin.hope to try the intense version soon.

I have always associated this fragrance with four colours. From top to bottom, I would describe the scent like this:

1: Light grey. Very short-lived notes. Ozone, water mist, and a strange 'dry-cleaner' smell.

2: Sun-yellow. Mostly citrus but hints of saffron, too. A certain 'sharp' note is noticeable which gives this part a mineralic/salty twist.

3: Greenish-yellow. The best part. A sun-drenched forest combined with warm spices. Contains an element that reminds me of birch-bark.

4: Dark green. More forest but not sun-drenched anymore. Dark, moist, mossy. A special character is given by the combination of light tobacco and a soil-like note. This fourth part has almost infinite longevity.

What a dichotomy. This is the scent that started me on my path of fragrance collection and connoisseurship, a perennial favorite of mine, yet I couldn't get rid of it soon enough.

Like all aquatic citrus scents this one is overly popular with the Abercrombie Generation, alongside Aqua de Gio you will smell this one everywhere.

I got the most compliments on this scent, but I just can't wear it anymore. I try to stay as far away from scents like this as possible now.

Good for the Sheeple, not for me.

This one can definitely be unisex. I don't think it's sex in a bottle, either, but it's got a great dry down, green, woody, vetiver. It goes through the top, mid, base stages very clearly, and is a lovely clean, fragrance that wears on female skin very well, without being too masculine.

Vanilla? Flowers? Whatever...

Honestly, please, anyone who is visiting this site to get a feel of what this men's perfume my be like, DON'T LISTEN TO ALL THE RAGING HYPE AND GROSS MISINTERPRETATION OF NOTES...

Ok, granted that they got some of them right - I guess waterlily gives it a light floralness, but not overtly.

If anything, this cologne is fresh, sharp, clean, but quite strong. It's very aquatic, green, oceanic and salty.

Its no where near as flowery as many others here have insisted - and even if it did have some vanilla in it (which it might do), it is such a small amount as to provide, if anything, a grounding effect...certainly doesn't lend any floralness to the character of this perfume...

Very modern - such that it has been contemporary for the last 13 years!

Oceanic, aquatic, fresh, clean-like, a little bit ozonic...quite nice...

It is actually different enought from other contemporary fragrances to do away with any thoughts on whether this is generic or not, but alas, it is sooo over used by sooo many people!

Still, great stuff!

L'Eau D'Issey pour Homme was so popular when it was released, everyone wanted to wear it. But I found it too floral, even till today. Here it is like a must-own fragrance for a certain group to be identified/belong. Recently I received a bottle as a gift, which I wore very seldom, smell great, but too common.

I went to Italy in July 2001 and smelled this on my airport car driver and asked him what it was. Got back home and wore it. NICE! I'm a floral hater by far and it goes on floral and sweet a bit but with this cologne it's all about THE DRYDOWN. The end result after 1 hour is the best drydown scent possibly ever!
I've got 10% left and I will move on another new scent but I recommend it to most! Best drydown in my top 3.

Theres no denying that the market is somewhat saturated with 'L'eau D'Issey' PH, but the very fact it continues to appeal to markets both old and new, speaks for its mass appeal.
The thing is, its actually a fantastic scent - a woody marine fragrance with the freshness of citrus played against precious woods and spices. Other citrus/woody/aquatics such as 'Aqua di Gio PH' pale in contrast to this creation. For its complex variety of accords, LDIPH is remarkably clean and uncomplicated. It is a fragrance that projects well and lasts a long time. LDIPH is ideal in any season, day or night. IMO, its versatility and refined characteristics will see it remain a favourite for many years to come. Already a 'modern classic'.

Do you know love at first sight? Well, it happened with me when I first saw the advertising for this fragance on a mall, ten years ago. When I asked to taste this frag on my skin, well, I was about to ask the bottle for marriage...
Anyway, this is a very special fragrance for me, I won from my mother and it was my only fragrance for years. Wonderful, very green and long-lasting...
After ten years it still has the same perfume, the same longevity... and it still fills me with an elegant aura everytime I wear it...

Despite some objections to the flowery character provided by the vanilla, I find this scent intoxicating. Its uniqueness within a class of fragrance that seem all alike really speaks to its character. Really, it comes down to the individual preference, but if you are shopping within this category, this is a no-brainer.

I've smelled this fragrance several times on other persons. A very recognizable aroma, and a very strong trail.

The head is based on citric notes, persisting for a long time during middle and base notes. The middle note feels aquatic and floral, and the base note is green tending to vetiver. When smelled can't get spicy notes, but the trail it leaves is mainly citrus fruits.

Extremely strong (or maybe used in excess by everyone on whom I smelled it), it have a established niche of fans and it's well accepted by women. For me the citric is pungent, opposite Boucheron Homme which is also based on citric notes but well blended with woods. Unisex style, it's recommended for summer times, daytime and evening occasions ... it's so much strong for an office use. Age range around 20-35 years old.

this is the closest thing to love potion number 9. when i first came across this scent i was not impressed. It had a strong cheap woman's perfume smell as a top note but when it dried down... WOW. i can only explain this scent as fresh, masculine and intoxicating to women. I actually had a woman tell me that... "you smell intoxicating." Anyway, you will definately get noticed wearing this. Word of advice, don't spray on your clothes. One spray to the chest, one to your abdomin and two sprays to the neck is perfect. It is different from any other cologne b/c it is versatile. I can wear it to work, class, a date and the clubs. A must buy. I thought Dolce and Gabbana was best for nightlife b/c it will get you noticed, but Issey Miyake is number 1! buy it.

If you're a citrus-hater, avoid this. It's otherwise a good scent, but for me, the yuzu is just too much to render it unwearable. Hence the neutral review. After the piercing citrus note is gone, the drydown is pretty good. A couple of pretty girls at the gym today seemed to compete for the stepper next to me... It just might have been the charm of L'Eau D'Issey - who knows :)

This is the first fragrance I ever purchased for myself, and is something that I have worn for years. Issey stays the same on my skin as it comes out of the bottle which now is a little disappointing. The lack of depth and interest with this fragrance doesn't lend it very much wear anymore, but its still a signature scent for me. Timeless and ultimately soothing for me.

A top ten fragrance for me. Long lasting, classy, not intrusive but still a compliment magnet. Not overly popular in my area, which is a good thing. I bought without sampling off reviews and ingredients and was not disappointed. A little pricey..but worth it. A winner!

A bona fide classic scent and certainly the best of the Issey Miyake main line. The master designer at Firmenich Jacques Cavallier has created something quite classic with this. At first its green and fresh and the soft woody undertone... oblige me crazyingly sniffing! Hummmmmm this is very nice scent. I agree resitantly it is a bit like Acqua di Giò... but I emphasize: "It's much better" It is type of the fragrant Giò, and ends light, subtle and distinctly green. This would be quite nice on a man or woman, but since I wear it I don't think it smells particularly feminine. Classifies it as a men fragrance so it should not be listed for women... although I can easily see women wearing it as well. Lasts pretty long and goes with daily wear. Highly recommended.

Very good for Affairs i have to say. No one girl will pass to your side without look at you. But i know there are very good replies of his one and too much people in the streets are using this fragance, so is not High Class anymore. For wearday perhaps.

This is a potent citrus/aquatic I have used for years, but have yet to put a dent in the bottle. A single spritz on the neck is all you need. I can smell this on my clothes for DAYS. Sillage is high and longevity is 12+ hours. I would say that this is definitely NOT for every day wear, although I think it would be appropriate in all 4 seasons. Lately I have found myself only craving to wear it on rainy days - weird. Many compare this to Aqua Di Gio. I think ADG is lighter and less complex - more suited to the office, but FAR too many people wear ADG.

An addition to Joe desire's comments. Had it once, twice and a third time. It's a compliment-getter. Excellent fragrance in my opinion.
One warning - be gentle on application after a late night out partying...it may lead serious reconsideration.

Don't understand what the fuss is about. After the reviews and my collection growing I was expecting something oriental, clever, interesting, sweet, fresh, and inviting.

However all I got was a blast of citrus and a disgusting cheap womens perfume undertone.

Really dissappointed, this was on my shopping list, at the top, glad I tried before I bought.

Not saying don't buy it, just dont buy on hyp, try it first, its nothing special.

I bought this fragrance blind for an event at a yacht club, and I hit the nail on the head with this fresh, soapy fragrance. A number of notes blend together to create a unique, complex fragrance. Longevity and sillage are excellent. (I woke up with a headache as well, but after subsequent trials I've determined that was because of the open bar, not L'Eau.)

OK but not as great as advertised. This is not aristocratic Acqua di gio. Acqua di gio is aristocratic Issey Miyake - lets get that straight. It seems that IM has some annoying notes that ADG doesn't. The better, simpler scent wins because of what it doesn't have. Less is more in this case. Couldnt decide between up and neutral so it's neutral

The nicest "white" fragrance I've discovered outside the world of niche fragrances. Widely available, too, and not terribly expensive.

Could easily see this one as unisex, yes. Don't know about "the ladies," but I sure get a lot of compliments from my boyfriend and other guys on this one.

A personal favorite -- sure hope that Miyake never discontinues this gem.

I really wanted to like this one when it first came out because it was so self-consciously artsy or rather, fragrance as "art". I tried some at the local scent counter and liked it at first but then it started to annoy me and it just wouldn't go away. Then, like so many others have mentioned, I literally got a headache from it and felt kind of nauseated.
It was like my head was a Janpanese tea house and those naked guys who bang gongs and hang upside down came in and drank way too much sake with the geishas who were wearing way too much gardenia and then the tea house caught fire and burned to the ground.
It's the Hiroshima of men's fragrance.

This is definitely one of THE classic male scents. You always get compliments with this one. Unfortunately it became too popular, so i don't wear it anymore
