My best friend kept ribbing me that he got more female compliments with this than with any other cologne. He figured it had to do with their wanting to sit on daddy's lap. (Daddy? Try grandpa.) I figured how wrong could I go for a couple of bucks? Besides I probably owned it 30 years ago along with Chaps and Aramis.

(Sorry doctor, I have no recollection of Brut or Acqua Velva)

Well, now I know why I haven't bought it in 30 years, I'll give it to him as a present.

No disrespect intended against your fathers, grandfathers, great-grandfathers, Confucius and all your honorable ancestors, but I can't stand this juice.

I find it overbearing, gross and powdery.
Masculine?
Well, only in the sense of 'pertaining to men.'
If one were to make a fragrance of the scent of Gillette's cheapest shaving cream and bottle it, it too, would be 'masculine' by that definition.

Longing for the virile good old days? Give me Bay Rum over this anytime.

Incidentally, this reputedly came out as a WOMAN'S fragrance in 1937, bombed and was re packaged for men the next year. I did not know this tidbit before trying it, but it's part of the interesting trivia one finds here at Basenotes.

Good Lord!
Imagine 30 years from now the hot babes going for the " masculine" A*Men or Le Male because it reminds them of dear old grandpa! The mind boggles. . .

In principle, The Spice is nice, and only slightly too sweet, but it's not right for me personally for a few reasons. I tend to spray or even splash on clothing, and this is the only cologne that I've ever had permanently stain something. I know, silly me for doing that, but seriously...only one brand out of dozens upon dozens. That distinction merits it a thumbs down from me instead of a neutral. But also I find either anise or fennel or licorice in it...I can never tell those apart but I hate them all in food. So when I put it on, I always thought, "yeah this smells OK, but it would suck if I had to eat it." I finally realized that if that's going to be the first thought it brings to my mind, then I shouldn't be using it. So it's just not worth my while to own.

I really can't get into this stuff. I've used the deodorant for years, but when I apply the cologne all I get is a very harsh, offensive scent. On some guys it might be okay for the price... I got mine for about $3 in a combo pack.

I have used this product for years and have gotten very used to the scent. Now the scent is completely different and terrible since Proctor & Gamble has taken over from Shulton. Why did they have to cahange it? There as nothing wrong with the scent. We (reliable customers) REALLY need the scent to be
changed back to the way it was. Thanks ....

Disgruntled Customer.

Maybe it's true the scent of Old Spice has changed. Or has been changed.

The old schooner has become a yacht, and the venerable aftershave now carries the familiar whiff of Pampers diapers.

Procter & Gamble make both products, so I'm not surprised. Just disappointed.

By the way, the original deodorant, the one in round stick, still smells true, thankfully.
