I discovered this fragrance when I was a teenager and used to love it. Nevertheless, ten years later I don't find it so great anymore.
Maybe my nose got saturated.

I used to like this scent, but somehow one day I put it on and felt sick to my stomach from the scent, kinda weird, but I don't like it now.

Tried this only once as a tester in a shop - well - it must have zoomed straight to my brain's pleasure centre coz I keep thinkin about it - gonna have to buy it sooner or later - a very noticable fragrance and fresh too - very good one this

This is nice, but it feels like a watered-logged log of cedar. Totally not terrible because the scent is still pleasant but feels weak.

I did appreciate Platinum Egoiste at one time and actually owned a bottled, but I realized that it was not only continuously off-putting to those around me, but just projected "me" too loudly. It said things about me I didn't agree with. If you enjoy the bright greenness of this fragrance but want more subtlely and refinement, I might suggest Creed's Green Valley. To me, Platinum recalls Green Valley with the fine rare imported oils of Gilette Shaving Gel mixed in. No, it's not that bad, but the first burst is unfortunately very gym locker room, the sharpness of "masculine" freshness and cleanliness on steroids.

It's okay. I could see someone enjoying this as an everyday office scent, and for that purpose it's not bad, I suppose. I thought I liked it at first, but it gets boring. Yawn. I've no business wih fresh, clean, masculine scents, since I've no desire to become an everyday office person.

If Chanel Antaeus was actually a man, PE is what he scraped off the bottom of his sandle.

As usual, starts citrusy and refreshing and in less than 5 minutes turns to a spicy-herbal fragrance with that old school vibe of scents like Eau Sauvage, monsieur de Givenchy etc.
Well, I see some similarities with herrera's 212 (in its mossy greeness) as if this one was its father. Maybe an old school 212 with annoying sharp spices.

Platinum Egoiste = manly, aromatic, fouragee.

Went off from the reviews and the pyramid and bought blind. Sillage excellent, stay average.

Not bad, but I was expecting a bit more dimension coming from a '93 fouragee. It reminds me of the 70s fouragees where top = middle = base. Now, I do admit the base notes are more generic but the scent is an all around a aromatic fougeree.

Fresh and pleasant, not offensive and could see where this scent could transition very easily from day into the night.

Borderline refined VS copy of 70's fouragees.

Oversprayed = offesive.

I like it, but think there are fouragees out there that have more personality / dimension now at the same or sllightly cheaper price tag. Not in my top 5.

My initial reactions to Platinum Egoiste were, to say the least, not very good. I regularly smelled the scent strip over the course of a two-hour shopping trip because I didn't want to give up on it so easily.

I must confess it grew on me over those two hours, much like any song by the Black Eyed Peas which always initially cause an initial repulsion then finally, an acceptance by force, as it were. Therefore, in the cause of honesty, I must give this a neutral with a thumbs-down tendency rating.

Basically not even a poor relation to Egoiste. More like a flash nouveau riche cousin with garish tastes. Should be called 'Eau de Nightclub' as many are like it. Can't give it a thumbs down as its a Chanel thus high quality and I do like it even though I'll smell like every Juan, Dick and Ali. Can never get a bargain bottle on THAT online auction house as people fight tooth and nail for it.

Well, this is interesting. I can't STAND the top of it, far too pungent(dear gracious I pray I haven't forgotten how to spell that) for me. However, the drydown is beautiful. I'm not sure if it's the type of fragrance that women would like, though it exudes class.. is it worth it to sit through the beginning to get to the drydown?

Agrees with subzero. This is too smooky. It should have been a stronger version of the original with more tangerine and more streamlined.

Wow. This one starts off with a bang. It comes on very strong, quite potent stuff. Citrus, spice, burnt woods, and some florals seem all to come at me at once. Once it dries down, the citrus blends into the background a little more, the burnt woods come to the fore a bit, and the there is a subtle dry spice going on. While it is nice, and masculine, it also smells familiar to me, like it is THE smell of every nightclub I've ever been in. I know that contradicts what others seem to be saying about it's uniqueness...maybe it's just popular in my town. Who knows? At any rate, while it has its positive qualities, it doesn't thrill me, and the familiarity of it makes it unlikely that I would buy a bottle.

To me, this smells like Creed's Himalaya a bit. I would not buy this again, but it's a highly elegant men's scent that has a patchouli-type smell to it. It's a nice scent that smells a bit sweet.

I have tried it occasionally, too smoky.

I believe this one smells too much like the "typical mens cologne" if you are looking for something different or special, look elsewhere. Too citrusy, typical woodsy drydown, not something you would expect from chanel

Like Carolina Herrera, women likes it a lot. Masculine, strong and very long lasting, but so much floral for me. As somebody said in a review, it can give a headache if used in excess (1 spray was enought for me to get the headache).

It's a clean scent that's fresh and floral. It smells like something a rich guy would wear. Definitely for formal/semi-formal occassions. However, my body chemistry must have changed over the years because now when I wear it, the drydown smells extremely woody and mossy. It reminds me of barbecue sauce with its thickness. Definitely try this one on your skin before you buy it because it's not for everyone. It has plenty of sillage to boot and has decent staying power.

Its ok, but nothing special, way overrated, and drydown gave me a headache.

Herbal and citrusy topnotes dominate at first, but the woody/mossy nature is unveiled. The herbal notes linger with the woodiness. A very classy scent.

The first thing I notice in Platinum Egoiste is the sharp cedarwood. The fragrance itself is rather harsh. Some have gone as far as saying it reminds them of battery acid. It is a bit harsh for me at first. As it dries down it gets a bit more floral and the woods mellow out a bit, but it’s still not as smooth as I’d like. It doesn’t last terribly long either. I sold my bottle. Overall, I don’t feel this is worth the price.

I tried it a few times after reading TheCologneGuy's review site (admittedly, quite subjective and not always reasoned well enough, but still one of the best fragrance reads). I would say that Egoiste Platinum oozes quality and expensiveness (expensivity?), but I do not find it distinct enough. Yet another "lemony drying down to warm woods" thing, high quality, but little else.
