Though not mentioned in the notes pyramid, here we got the best big oakmoss note ever. With the iris and leather note it becomes very warm and comforting. Gucci pour Homme has a lot common with Dior Homme; iris, vetiver, leather, oakmoss. But Gucci pour Homme is much darker and woodsy, boldly woody that I cannot even get the pepper and ginger. Dior Homme is more sunny due to the lavender.
I love both. Longelivity is great for Gucci (though Dior Homme has a few points more on that). Wear it today after bath and tomorrow morning you will surely remember what you have been wearing yesterday.
Silage is also strong but no need to be afraid of going too much. People are usually more tolerant to natural notes. Of course people have their own emotional background about scents but you can hardly hear someone saying "there is a heavy wood smell in the air, disgusting; I hate sandalwood (or oak or cedar....)". That is something good about woods.

The best in the Gucci line till date. Very nice and long lasting cologne. The bottle also looks very nice.

The genius of this one is building on tradition in a hyperclassical way.

While Rive Gauche builds on the barber shop this one builds on the "mystical." Yes, that 70's Thing was very good indeed, like woody/vanillac smoke that we know can never last yet seems to last. Smooth, simple, classic.

many times this has been compared to Commes des Garcons 2MAN, and i think that's fair.

To me, this is the slightly classier, less incensey cousin. They have the same arid, smoky, super-cedary shaved-pencils dryness, but the spicy opening here is simpler, all about the pink bay (i have no idea how this differs from ordinary bay, smells like bay to me) and the hot, prickly pepper with warm cinamon and i think possibly a nutmeg or mace note.

i have been debating for god knows how long whether to get this, as I already have cdg2man. i think i probably will though, i think they are different enough to warrant owning both - IF you really like spiky spices and hot, baked dryness and smoky cedar wood. which i do.

Very nice scent, though unfortunatley not wearable for me.
To me it depends heavily on what age you are or what your social class is.
Too expensive, too nouveau rich smelling: white suite, hat, expensive sunglasses, Ferrari sportscar.
Or just too old smelling, a fragrance for a respected, well-educated gentleman.

None of the above applies to me and therefore I don't feel comfortable wearing it.
The scent is very nice though, I can sense pencil shavings and incense, beautiful.
Pretty linear in execution, which is good, you get what you smelled the first time in the shop, no unpleasant surprises.

Back in the seventies. The Classics as she there is. No compromise and multigendery. Even in mirror on itself became the glance to delay...

First of all, GPH is very very similar to Rochas LUI. I own both of 'em and guess what...they are from same parent company, Robertet Group. Like Rochas Lui, GPH opens with a smoky woody sorta aroma and gradually develops into a rich leather/vanilla base. The whole transformation from start to finish is like a sweet smoky joy-ride. Sillage is very good & longevity is 12+hrs on my skin, which is SUPER!!!

It seems I can never stress enough how certain scents will force an immediate deja vu that conjures up memories so long forgotten you weren't sure whether you dreamed it or if it actually happened. I just got a bottle of GPH today, and excited as I was from both the reviews and the perceived pyramid I was not quite ready for the mental fatigue I've just gone through for an hour. Since I was already wearing my SOTD (creed chevrefeuille, although by this point in the day the relatively weak longevity had long since rendered it imperceivable to my nose) I decided to spray the back of my hand... just to get a feel for it before I showered and could enjoy a full wearing. The first couple of minutes I wasn't really impressed, as the weak capsaicin in the pepper mixed with the tiniest whiff of ginger didn't really do much for me... after five minutes I found myself absolutely entrenched in my own wrist (luckily the geriatric playing golf didn't notice me inhaling my arm from my balcony, but whatever I wouldn't really care if they did). Something in this kept stoking my memories... at first I went through every single fragrance I've ever sampled, worn, smelled on someone else, you name it... I was left with nothing. I started to get a bit angry that something that smelled so familiar was lost in my memory banks. Then, alas, a revelation. I was probably around ten years old visiting my Nana up in Connecticut, and we went to a "true" Catholic church... being a florida boy I was raised in a "progressive Catholic church", whereas everything was a bit watered down to compete with big boy Baptist right across the road. Anyways my first journey to the "real" church was incredibly intimidating for me, with the massive architecture, the massive ensemble of choral units, and the 3 story organ pipes that seemed to erupt from the organ and blast the hymns straight to heaven. Needless to say I was blown away by the sheer immensity of it all; the most intriguing part of the entire visit, however, was the priest wading through the crowd of pews with the ball of insence hanging from the chain, filling the entire structure with the most putrid, irritating, yet pleasurable fragrance I had yet known... After that whenever my family went back north to visit, all I wanted to do was to go back to that church. Not for the rhetoric, not for the incessant kneeling, standing, sitting and watching what everyone else did just so that you wouldn't make the wrong move. I begged to go because although the fragrance hurt my eyes, although it burned my nostrils, and although it left a pasty film on the back of my tongue it was the most exhilarating nuisance I had ever felt. After an hour into GPH I'm left with that same sort of irritated satisfaction. The scent pyramid from the middle down is absolutely worthless to me, because I have no idea whatsoever how orris rhizome smells in its natural state, and if there is amber in this I cannot feel it. What I do get is a tremendous amount of pew wood, leather from the "books of the lord", and that powerful incense that psychosomatically never really goes away. The irrational thing is that I can almost smell the top notes of Tommy Bahama in the drydown, which makes absolutely no sense at all, but somehow that which I loved in the latter is that which I love in the former... All in all I can't really make a solid recommendation for this fragrance, because so much lies in the subjective manifestation that causes me to love it, but I could never see this as getting a negative comment it is just too beautiful. Thumbs up for yet another unexpected trip down memory lane

I love this fragrance! Gucci will never be the same without Mr. Ford. I've worn this since it came out 6 years ago - I think I'm on my 5th bottle. I like Gucci Pour Homme because it smells great from the moment you put it on in the morning until it's completely faded away at night. At first you smell the pepper and bay, then after a while a different scent (the papyrous wood component?) comes through, and then finally a leather/resinous amber scent develops. It's almost like getting three colognes in one. Some of the other reviewers likened it to cedar or pencils but, to me, I don't get even a hint of 'pencil' from it. It's exremely masculine without being all piney and fake-outdoorsy.

Woody(!), quite spicy in the beginning, then it mellows down. This is a fragrance wich I sincerely like... Tough I wouldn't pick it first for any occasion I can think of, because it's not exciting enough, but that might just be my view.

I wear this, I find most women's fragrances too sweet. This is beautiful - it smells like incense. It always makes me smile when I smell it. I like heady, musky perfumes so this fits the bill perfectly. Someone said, at the end of the day, I smelt like woodsmoke, which I don't consider a bad thing. This is my absolute favourite fragrance!

A pleasant, inoffensive offering from Gucci, which might find favour among those that seek something sweet and woody. The opening is more frusctose than sucrose, with a Pink Grapefruit type sweetness which in no way ever becomes sentimental or cloying. A slightly dried timber note from the Papyrus wood, augments the fading nectar from the opening, to provide a warm, affable fragrance. One to reach for when you don't want to stand out from the crowd, but still smell alluring.

Bold and glorious scent. So hot, so strong. The cinnamon, cedar and pepper carry me off. But to wear it in public would be downright rude.

The spicy, gingery opening soon gives way to a slightly vanilla-tinged wood smell. On my skin, the drydown is a lovely, intense, sweet olibanum that results in frequent wrist-sniffing. Not to everyone's taste, but for lovers of woody, incense frags, this one is up there, and costs less than some of the other incense frags on the market.

My new signature scent for my 30s. I could bathe in this!

Cedar on the top, pencil shavings for 2 hours, then residual smoke from a campfire until you bathe the next day. If you like thick scents that proclaim your masculinity for you, this is it. Just take it easy on the application, lest you will smell like a cave man.

This is a very holy smoking incense fragrance. A little displeasent at the beginning but evolves quickly to a simple incense-leather smell.

This is very suitable to be a signature fragrance. Unique, top quality and lasts for hours. The drydown is exceptional.

This is such a wonderful scent, it's truly reminiscent of a walk in the woods on a crisp fall day. The fragrance is a very unique combination of strong woods and peppery spices with both a strong-yet-subtle top note and robust mid-note. My only misgiving about the fragrance is longevity, as it does dry down and will fade over time rather than persist. Knowing that it's become very hard to come by, I've snapped up as much as I can as the Pour Homme II is rather horrid by comparison and relies too heavily on overly sharp top-notes without any enduring character. Pour Homme exudes a very unique character that I've otherwise not experienced in other fragrances - I'm asked about it whenever I wear it.

A very classy offering from Gucci. I like it. In this era of watered down, fresh scents, Gucci pour Homme stands tall proudly.

Cedar, incense and amber... and yes, pencil shavings is what you might interpret it as, but it's as classy as wood can be!

To my nose, it smells very similar to Andy Tauer's L'Air du désert Marocain, although this niche scent has a better longevity, more incense, and is a tad more dry than Gucci pour Homme.

To me this is almost pure essence of wood. I see where others see pencil shavings, but this softer and less astringent than pencil shavings to me. Slightly smoky with just a hint of incense IMHO. Very nice!

This not the kind of scent that most Chinese people would prefer, except me.
I've been using quite a few aquatic and fruity products in recent years and I told myself that I no longer want to use those generic things any more. So, this morning I bravely sprayed 4 squirts of GPH on my back(skin). Now, sniffing and enjoying the sweet yet creamy woody aroma, I am definitely high into it.
I mean creamy, yes, it is cedar and even sandalwood I believe. I love this scent and I think the real timing for it to show its true color is winter in Beijing, when the sweetness and freshness out of a classic aroma is appreciated.

Deep, dark, warm, sensual, mystic, mysterious. The imagery that I get is walking into an Orthodox church to escape heavy snowfall on a dark winter night somewhere in the Russian countryside. Great scent!

Fantastic stuff. Easily one of the most original designer releases in last 10 or 15 years. Fantastic take on spices and smoky woods. For sure it`s very incensy too. To my nose the scent has lots of mysterious corners, although it isn`t that dark or brooding.

Gucci Pour Homme smells absolutely amazing, but I must say it could last a bit longer, plus the drydown could behave better on my skin : It sometimes seems to loose it`s balance, developing this thin and sharp odor. Generally I hope the composion was smoother and more dense, perhaps more full-bodied. I think EdP concentration would do the trick.

The bottle especially, but also the box design is absolutely gorgeous. One of the best fragrance presentations ever made, including niche market.

One of the best among the last designer scents, sweet and warm, no sharp notes and a wonderful square bottle, a long lasting five stars fragrance of smocky incense, wood and spice, linear with not much developing but always beautiful and long lasting on y skin.

Years after completing grade school, the month of September had a hold on my psyche like none other. Not because the school year always started in September for me, but more so the smell of crispness in the air mixed with the anxious urge to wear slightly out-of-season, stylish, more heavier clothing. September was alive with energy. The energy of a new year, new priorities, new methods and materials to organize these priorities...notebooks, papers, pencils, and ideas. Gucci Pour Homme personifies this. September-October in a bottle. It took me 10 years out of college to let September be just another month. But, GPH engulfs me in my rendition of September like a crisp northeastern autumn day full bright faces and new ideas.

warm smooth wood and spices... very nice. I don't think I'm old enough to wear this frag (20) but I like to spray it on before I go to bed and just when hanging around the house... It makes me feel as if I am in a library full of wood and books and good warm spicy smells.... love it

A throwback to the 70s and 80s powerhouse 'macho' fragrances, Gucci pour Homme (redux) is a winner in all respects! It is the best offering from Gucci, and a welcome breath of fresh, woody air amongst a sea of poorly made marine/citrus/light/airy synthetic fragrances. This is an unflinchingly strong, masculine concoction, consisting purely of spices, very dry woods, amber and leather...there are no citrus or other fresh notes at all, so it is definitely not for the faint of heart! But, it is very nicely blended, and for those who like more traditionally rugged masculine fragrances that focus on woods and leather, this is an exceptional fragrance! I agree with some reviewers who mention that this one smells somewhat like pencil shavings at times; I get the smell of pencil shavings at times as well, but it is not the most obvious association to be made with Gucci pour Homme, and might be construed as a 'cheap shot'. Instead, this fragrance reminds me more of a lumberjack hard at work in the forest, with smoke billowing out of the chimney of a log cabin in the middle of a densely wooded forest. It really is a must-have if you are looking for a scent that is exclusively composed of dry woods, spice, and a good dose of leather and incense. And the longevity must be mentioned too; 2 sprays will last you close to 24 hours!

Unique smell - reminds me of some of the bitter Arabic attars. Its a very dry fragrance and the pepper is prominent. It is a very masculine smell and probably an acquired taste.

Tom Ford's true Gucci masterpiece - along with many other gorgeous scents of course under the brand, but this one is just very special to me.

It is a testament and gift to modern masculinity. Elegant, poised, dashing and unapologetic; this is a true legend. Simply fantastic. I am not going to repeat everything people have said, but yes, it is smoky and dry, woodsy and well blended, sexy and heavy.

It is a stupendous creation - and the bottle... now that is a true work of art. Tom Ford always knows what he is doing when he puts the bottles together. The gorgeous whiskey glass feel, but this one is a rectangular prism, with a heavy polished, but aged metal cap containing the whiskey colored gem of a juice inside. And a subtle fabric surface-like pattern etched at the bottom of the thick and transparent glass... Simply fantastic. I cannot stop playing with the bottle: its weight and simplicity is seductive, and so incredibly sexy. Gucci pour Homme II is the same bottle but with a tacky brushed gold cap and baby blue juice inside. The feeling/look is just not the same.

Decadent and modern at the same time. Love Gucci pour Homme.

PS: I first used this scent when it first came out and back then, its longevity was fantastic. Bought a second one recently (after many years of its debut), and its longevity is really not the same. Seems a little watered down maybe, which is a sad thought. Curious.

I love the smell of this fragrance! I do get the pencil shavings note throughout the life of the fragrance, but I like the woodiness. It is very warm and peppery as well. Unfortunately the longevity and sillage are below par. I wear the after shave to help out in this department a little bit.
But as far as the smell of the fragrance goes, this is a thumbs up.

I will never let my husband wear anything but this! It is so rich and masculine and smokey, utterly distinctive and unforgettable. I also love that on the dry-down it manages to just smell like 'man' - leather, tobacco, and money.

WOW! negative reviews?? Common!! give this one a try and it'll not fail you. agreed, the pencilshaving note is far too prominent, but maybe this is not a scent to be enjoyed up close (although i do).

Gucci PH opens with a intense camphory sweet, slightly smoky incense on top of shiny leather notes topped with spicy notes of pepper, ginger and bay (bay note will remind one of Obsession for a second). it is no doubt a sweet incense based scent, with a subtle touch of sandalwood and other "woody" notes...as the sweetness (infamous pencil shaving note) starts to wear off in time, the leather, incense n Amber trio works up the smoky sillage...this ones a smoky, spicy, incense based scent with a comforting base of leather and amber..leaving a trail of pure class beyond words.

Like Dior Homme, Gucci PH leaves an impression on the wearer...the aspect that i find most intriguing about this scent is the sillage, the magic is in the sillage ..like Dior homme, it has often had me look around the room to see who is wearing that wonderful scent, only to discover it's me.. a masterpiece from Gucci, one that can challenge well known niche ones costing 5 times more.

WONDERFUL!

There is not much to say....
If you like sweet, spicy, woody and warm scents than you should give this one a try, cause nowadays such fragrances are rarely findable.
Very well blended. Good lasting power. Definitely not mainstream. Wonderful bottle.
Admirable that such a fragrance is the flagship of Gucci's fragrance line (for men).
(Maybe a bit too much in the summer time.)

This is definately a courageous composition for a modern perfume. I personally think, although it smells not very "pleasant" but it is still a very harmonious composition. It has such an interesting, strong appearance that most people at have a clear opinion about it: either you like it or you hate it, there is not much room in between. Yes it smells a little bit like pencil sharpener but it also reminds me like of desert, plenty of oil, money and luxury-it has a very oriental start. After a while it gets softer and a little too much vanilla is taming down the rough beginning and some of the first attraction(or disgust) is lost.
It is a strong, warm and unconventional, long lasting winter scent.

Wood? You better believe it! I don;t think you can get more woody that living in a log cabin while eating wood grain cereal while wearing nothing but wood underwear when suddenly a tree fell into your roof. Peppery with the depressing olibanum basenote with the uplifting musk. quite fine in my opinion.

An excellent masculine fragrance. A rather powerful peppery opening followed by a wafty wood which pervades to the drydown when vetiver takes stage. It's gorgeous and in fact reminds me of a Moorish room filled with musk and incense even though they may not be part of the notes. Sophisticated and for a self assured man who would probably use Acqua di Gio as an antiseptic rub.

Pine fire and church incense, softened by gentler woods.
If you find Avignon stark and harsh, and it is, you might enjoy Gucci pour Homme. It has more of the outdoors to it and gentler edges that hint at a human presence. This not a cold stone cathedral with hushed tourists peering into its dark vaults, it's a stone chapel filled to overflowing for Easter vigil. It's also worth pointing out that Gucci pour Homme can be gotten for something like a quarter the price of the Comme des Garcons incense series.

I love this, this is the longest lasting fragrance that I own. The longevity is astonishing, I get the pencil shavings analogy, but these are mighty fine. I love the incense, and woody combination. The best winter fragrance ever IMHO. Will allways have a bottle of this stashed away.

Wow! I'm always intriqued by sents that are all over the place. Strong opinions and in my opinion, strong scent but in warm, right next to the body, sort of way. Read a lot about sillage and how to get it but this is not the scent for that.
Pulse points, particualrly down low i sthe way to go. Its warmth wants to float next to the skin and rise gently above it. Some of this got on a wool scarf right after I applied it - still smells nice but nothing like it smells on my skin. Dry down is where this one lives. Unfortunent reality is that a critical part of this, and many scents, is your own chemistry, when it works it works, its floats and lingers and blooms, just there and there and over there. Nice.

I, as a young 20-something, have recently taken a very keen interest in my appearance and cultivating a personal sense of style and dress. Why? Maybe becasue I am so sick of adolescent or juvinile behavior and the trends that my age group champions. Who needs two closets full of Abercrombie and Fitch attire in the city?

Anyway, without meaning to ramble, part of defining my personal style and adventuring in a more adult look as I move on with work and life, has been finding the right pieces (suits, jackets, shoes etc) that go with the occasion or situation. Part of completing that individual look or feel is in the cologne or fragrance I wear.

So on a random dare, and yes, led by the BIG name, I tried Gucci Pour Homme. I now own two bottles; one sits on my dresser and the other sits in my lower dresser drawer, in case I suddenly realize I am out of the first bottle and need a back up!

This fragrence is bold, masculine and solid; qualities that seem to be abset from most male fragrences these days. The top notes of white pepper and ginger literally explode from the bottle when first sprayed, almost with a ferocious bite that is invigerating and powerful - not many fragrences can make you feel awake and focused with one sniff. After the initial blast, the pepper/ginger slows drastically to reveal a woody, slightly sharp middle, which nicely enforces the initial spice in the mixture. After a few minutes, what is left of the mighty opening and clean and crisp middle is a warm scent of leather, nicely buffeted by touches of amber and subtle flashes of vetiver.

This is a favorite of mine. As a teen I received some pretty awful "presents" in the form of cologne, most of which I wouldn't use to freshen a smeely bathroom. This, however, is overtly masculine, raw and strong at first and then subtle and calm. It's well mixed and the designer had a clear definition of what they believed a man should smell like, and cleaverly bottled it.

It's wonderful in the cooler evenings, around dinner events, and late night dates; this smell has been known to insite some cozying from my female companion! Hopefully I can find other fragrences that speak out and stand out as much as this does on me...

Starts off sharply peppery, but soon mellows to a crisp cedar woodiness. The woodiness is elegantly supported and developed, and very consistent and long lasting. This is a very elegant scent, persistent but not obtrusive, and keeps the woody character for a long time. It is understated, but still has a complexity of character that is very satisfying.

A great, wearable scent. Stays close to the body. Many of the current popular scents are understated like this one, which allows it to be worn in many situations and generally find favour even among those who are indifferent to fragrance, but unlike many others it still manages to have true classic character. In other words, it actually smells of something.

Great fragrance. One of the best I've ever tried. Your cup is full with this one. GPH is a deep, masculine but also ethereal fragrance with a very smoothe and easy to wear personality.

It opens warm with very lively and light spices of ginger and bay that seem to sparkle. The nose is opened up by the pepper to welcome the spice as well as all that follows. The opening is elevated and grounded at the same time by a balance of ethereal orris and earthy vetiver/frankincense. The bay spice+ethereal orris+earthy vetiver oliban accord layers gently over a warm amber/leather that keeps things very agreeable through the last notes. None of the parts dominate and all live very well together even though they have quite a few contrasts. I like to think that there is a touch of three of my favorites here - 1 pt. bay rum + 1 pt. Patou pour Home + 1 pt. Chergui. Bracing and comforting.

Don't wear so much these days.. but this is fantastic nonetheless. Has a personal significance for me as THE scent that opened my eyes to that fact that there was a world of scents for men out there that didn't conform to the sweet, aquatic/floral fresh trend that is prevalent in the mass market. Spicey, musty, woody, incense, ancient somehow.. all things I love. On the donwside the longevity isn't great, But it's worth it for the sheer pleasure of giving yourself a few blasts of this then stepping out into a frosty winters day. I'll always keep a bottle on my shelf as long as it's continued. And WHAT a bottle, I have to say, fantastic chunky design.

Simply stunning fragrance. I purchased it after reading reviews on here (local shops don't carry it), and the first thing I noticed was how heavy it was. It gives the package a feel of quality and class. The color of the liquid and bottle perfectly reflect the scent itself. It's deep, calming and intriguing. I don't smell the pencil shavings, but I do see the incense. Above all else though, it simply smells great. It gives the wearer a look of status, boldness and originality. I can't believe I have GPH sitting on the same countertop as acqua di gio and coolwater :(

The poor cousin, once removed, of the much more distinctive and impressive (sadly discontinued) Yardley Sandalwood.
A wonderful, warm yet clean woody scent that would be much more impressive if I had not met, and succumbed completely already, to the Yardley. I won't throw Gucci pour Homme out of my cosy collection but I'll not be repurchasing. I already have and own the best.

All I can say is apparently a lot of you have some really nice smelling pencils!

I feel like I may be too young to be projecting this, not enough chest hair, not enough of a tan, too much head hair, no Porsche, etc. But I love it all the same. I put this on on very cold mornings over the winter and every time my collar opens I get a waft that warms me back up. It's great stuff.

And I don't know what some people are saying about the longevity - usually it lasts all day on me and I have one sweater that didn't get any sprayed on it, yet still smelled like it when I put it on two weeks later!

I'm surprised cedar isn't listed since to my nose this is a single note cedar scent. And I don't mean that in a bad way, I love cedar. I guess it's the general peppery/woody composition. It's not strong and harsh and butch, like it may sound from the notes, it's certainly nothing like the 70ies scents. It's very 21th century, sort of ethereal and polished and refined and easy to wear. Perhaps a tad weak, even, but I still enjoy it a lot. Its popularity is well deserved.

Smoooooth.
I smell stillness and sobriety.
I love this stuff. I can only find the olibanum (incense) note in it, but it's really worth it. I close my eyes and can almost picture myself in the middle of a Spanish "paso" de "Semana Santa" (I think the translation for this is "Passion Float", you know, religious figures of Saints, Virgins and Jesus carried by unseen people under a wooden structure along streets filled with quiet people and olibanum fragance). Anyway, a very evocative and holy fragance, but I guess it depends on your cultural and educational background...

I have been wearing this since it came out—five years now. In my recent obsessive pursuit of the new and the niche, I’m afraid I have neglected GPH more than I meant to. Wearing it today after several months of neglect, I am again intrigued by how good it is. The opening is rich with wood, spice, and incense; and the white pepper complements and magnifies them to the point where they have an almost surreal character. This surrealism, of course, is lessened as time goes on. The potency continues to wane into the mid notes where the spice is pretty much disappeared and the accord remains simply papyrus wood and incense. These middle notes are very similar to the top notes (except for the reduced surreal intensity) because of the incense, and they last for a very long time. The middle notes do tend to be a little lackluster, but they remain rich and masculine. Thus it stays until the notes from the base show up. The papyrus wood has pretty much spent itself by this time and the leather comes to the fore. Leather and incense—very smooth. I get very little amber and I would really like for the amber to be stronger by this time—it’s about time for a break from the incense accords. If there is a criticism I might make of this fragrance, it would be that it could use more variety in its progression. It does have that typical Gucci weakness of lack of depth, but that doesn’t make it any less an excellent fragrance to wear. Wearing a fragrance is not at all like writing a review of one. When I write the review, my attention is continuously focused on the fragrance, and things like linearity are made out to be flaws because of my grasping for something to write. But when wearing a fragrance, I don’t place my constant attention on it, so the lack of movement isn’t an issue if the accords are enjoyable. Gucci Pour Homme wears beautifully. All the Gucci fragrances I’m familiar with…they all wear beautifully.

I love this fragrance so much that I have decided to steal it from my husband and wear it myself. But don't let that fool you - it is a dark and manly fragrance. I just happen to be able to wear it. Others have described the notes better than I can, but I wanted to give my opinion!

This reminds me of something from my childhood in the Pacific Islands. I can't put my finger on what it is exactly, but I like it. I find it to have a very soapy dry-down, even though others may not, and I can't say I usually like that, but in Gucci pour Homme--it works. A definite buy for me!

Undeniably an "instant classic" from the very first sniff. Thanks Tom Ford for having the nuts to create a REAL fragrance! Speaking of which, this captures the "essence of manhood" from down around that general area after all the cedar and incense dissipates. Much like the original Rive Gauche captured the "essence of womanhood" in the 1970's. A 70's theme here? Definitely a 70's vibe from Gucci Pour Homme (what I guess is what President Ford wanted and he's gotten, Big Time!)
This one seems to evoke a lot of memory response in people. For me, my immediate thought was: "Sex in a church!" Not that that is an actual memory of mine...maybe a fantasy?
Even the bottle looks like a low-ball glass from that era, brimming with Chivas Regal.
My only criticism...too much cedar for too long a time...otherwise fragrance Heaven.

A new nighttime/formal staple for men, but this one's so good I'm tempted to start using it as a casual curveball and during the day - a rainy, cold, steel-gray day would be perfect.

Gucci PH is an unmitigated triumph. I was shocked that it was such a recent release, though it's original enough in its composition with the requisite creative touches to SUGGEST manly scents of decades gone by.

I made a point in my Azzaro PH review that there isn't anything really new, but now the subconscious becomes obvious - "new" is a very relative measure indeed. The meditative frankincense, the bracing strength of the cedar, the verdant earthiness of the vetiver, the gourmand-inspired top notes of pepper and ginger (coupled with a clovey, bay rum-ish spice that I'm assuming comes from the "pink bay"), the sweetish amber and leather farewell (made more subtle for modern times) all invoke past successes and hint at combos we might have smelled before. And yet...

Through the power of deja-vu and brilliant "nosing," this frag gets synergistic without delay. Even if it was a carbon copy (which it isn't to me at all) it would seem all the more original now that freshness holds sway.

Thank you Tom Ford, whereever you are.

Gucci pour Homme is a remarkable and timeless fragrance from famous italian house. At the first I thought it's unique and everlasting kind of scent and now I see I was right. GpH is too woody and perhaps made of wood 'Pinocchio pour Homme is a suitable name for this scent!'anyhow I'm not a lumberjack but I'm crazy about this scent and I recommend it to all carpenters!. Joking apart, this one seems a careful woody/peppery/sweet blend and structure and it is comfortable to wear in numerous times. GpH is certainly marvelous and as my brother says it is like scented woody and metallic things like furniture, ribbons, wet cardboard and pencil shaving-also it has really antiperfume level such as Comme des Garçons's Odeur 71, Odeur 53, CdG 2 Man, etc...very exotic in the terms of structure and also the composition is exactly incredible and surprisingly well done.
Ouch! it is a pity an elegant smell has definitive longevity problem and I must say it's also lacking sillage. The basenotes with amber, leather and olibanum produced an elegant and a bit Allure-ish drydown and I just really like its closing terms. GpH puts me in such a nice relaxed mood and I find it great simple and well made also.
Two big thumbs up for 'Geppetto'!!!.

Gucci pour homme is yet another frag I purchased "smell unsmelled," since I received quizzical looks from the clerks at the mass market stores at which I sought this product. They didn't carry it. I based my desire to purchase GpH on the reviews here. My first whiff of it I was taken aback by its unabashed woodiness and how it indeed evokes the notion of pencil shavings. That said, GpH is the most intoxicating, captivating aroma I have in my albeit small wardrobe. The sweet woody accord is so sublime that since I got it I never pass up an opportunity to uncork this robust glass cuboid and sniff the atomizer. I purchased the 3.3 oz size, the largest, yet I find myself constantly evaluating whether an occasion really merits wearing my precious Gucci pour homme.

On the OTHER hand, and not to detract in any way from my previous comments, my wife says....hmmmm, you smell like a guinea pig cage! Full disclosure, she is sort of a sarcastic person!

Get it!!!!

This one to me, makes me think of a soothing yet wacky dream I might have. It is of a sitting in the middle of a forest, with a huge campfire going on, and mass being conducted by your favorite priest. In addition, you are comforted and soothed by the people around you, some old friends you haven't seen in a great while some current friends and a lot of family. Perhaps a great grandfather you barely knew is sitting next to you at the fire, smoking a pipe that is intoxicating. On the other side of you sits the girl you always desired and she sits at your side wearing a heavy leather trenchcoat (keep in mind sometimes the bizarre nature of dreams). And she is drinking this cognac that is very strong yet pleasant smelling. This is the atomosphere I feel when thinking of this absolute masterpiece.

Ah! Gucci PH is nostalgic fragrance.
Reminds me stationery and artclass.
Too woody-spicy--memorial of pencil
sharpener, ruler, etc... I like Gucci
PH because it's memorable for me. A
classic frag by Gucci--it's better
than other Gucci's men scents. It
has very fans.

After reading the reviews I took another look at the fragrance and im glad I did!
Normally i pick them up, spray a card and go “its ok” or “UGH!” This one I probably would have done the latter because I was simply in the wrong mindset, conditioned by modern under-arm fragrances and girly scents.
So, after understanding I would experience pine, woods, smoke, church, I went and had another go – WOW!
It’s a very olde worldy smell, a bit like standing near a bonfire most of the evening, I felt and smelt like barbecued meat, outside a church, in the pine woods… Weird, why the hell should I want to smell like that? You may be thinking, you’d be surprised.
The scent follows you like a medieval ghost, haunting your every move. You get citrus and pine on the first squirt, then after 10 minutes it settles to a piney smokey smell, a bit like a Islay single malt whisky. It then settles further to an almost rock sugary incense, offering a blast every now and then of wood and pine needles fresh in the winter sun.
Definitely one for this time of year, and like nothing else. Oh and you will smell it on you the next day, brilliant.
Be a bit ‘out there’ and give it a go. Don’t expect women to understand it at first glance, younger ones anyway, but older may be able to appreciate it. For me it gives me a warm boost of confidence every time it travels up from my chest, its very pleasant and very manly in a post year 2000 kind of way, not an ‘80s ladyman’ Brut kind of way. It’s the future of modern manly scents, support it, and lets move away from these modern bubblegum-boy fragrances.
I’m buying some next week, and a big bottle at that.

Sex in a bottle -- period. Tom Ford got this retro-inspired beauty right on the money.
If, however, you are not a fan of patchouli and/or cedar, then avoid this one like the bubonic plague. I myself love it, but can understand why enemies of patchouli and cedar would despise it to the ends of the earth.

I absolutely love this. I was given a tester before it launched, and bought a bottle as soon as I could. The impression is of campfires, incense and cannabis- slightly sweet, smoky and outdoorsy. Then you get moss and patchouli. There's a tanginess to lift it, and the suggestion of barbecued lamb. To me it is the essence of a music festival. I've shared this fragrance with my boyfriend and it works equally well on both of us. It lasts on the skin while being not too heavy. The bottle is also beautiful, chunky and statement-making, adding to the sense of luxury.

Gucci Pour Homme is my favorite fragrance of all time. While I love M7, Tommy Bahama, I Coloniali, Gucci Envy and Green Irish Tweed, Gucci Pour Homme simply feels like the embodiment of who I am. It captures the way I feel when I put on one of my vintage Pendleton shirts in fall or winter. The euphoria I get when listening to a favorite album. Walking in the forest. Christmas Eve in the Southwest, with the smell of burning piñon and mesquite wafting through the air. Gucci Pour Homme is not for every man. Many in this forum have accurately described the fragrance. And, of course, many could be turned off by it. But then, our olfactory senses are quite tricky. One person's pleasure is another's repulsion. Some of the more unique things I actually like the fragrance of — and completely unrelated to colognes and Gucci Pour Homme — include the aroma of roasting green chilé peppers, the smell of rain on creosote bushes, coffee, leather, pipe tobacco, cedar, citronella, bourbon, the candles and incense burned during Dia de los Muertos, linseed oil, Murphy's Oil Soap, the smell of opening your tent on a brisk morning in the mountains of New Mexico, winter in Santa Fe, and freshly-ground chilé de arbol. Cringe at any of these if you want, but I'll bet that there are a few things in this world that you love the fragrance of that would turn many off. Simply put, Gucci Pour Homme makes me feel comfortable in my own skin. It makes a statement. It's masculine, yet is not afraid to be passionate. It's refined, yet rugged. Its simplicity makes it complex and confounding. This is one you wear to rediscover who you are.

This is probably my fall/winter holy grail. I LOVE this one. Pencil shavings do not come close to describing the quality of the woody ambience of this cologne. No other scent has conjured up such vivid images: I envision a small but lively campfire creating a warm, happy ring of light in the middle of a vast, empty desert. A few people are huddled in fuzzy wool blankets, lost in their thoughts. If i'm feeling less impassioned, it reminds me of my childhood winters. I would run around outside until I was too cold to bear, then come inside and plop in front of the fireplace, which was almost always lit, and just stare at it. Then I would go back out. Basically, it smells like a campfire, but in the very best way possible. The very definition of a comfort scent for me. I wish I had more than 2 thumbs to raise for this one.

This is a fall/winter woody fragrance and one of my all-time favorite colognes. The "white pepper" is most noticeable when you first spray it on and then quickly goes away as the cologne dries. What's left is a very warm, seductive, masculine, earthy, mystical, almost magical smell. One of the best. Recommended!!!

Yes very cedar-y, but that's just the beginning. This is by far the most unique cologne I have sampled in years, and the most masculine as well. I love it, wear it every day. I like Envy too, but it's a spicy scent that I don't want to wear all the time. I think Pour Homme is more versatile. Unlike anything else out there!

One of my favorites.
This is a cold weather /evening scent to me. It lasts on my skin and clothes and I like the old world / exotic aspect it has. It conjures images of dark charcoal pinstripe suits and sultry victorian furniture. The bottle is great for its minimalism, but make sure your hands are dry, its heavy.

Ah, yes. The pencil-shavings cologne. This is another masterpiece from Gucci. While not the complex melange of potpourri scents that made up Envy, Pour Homme is a simple, understated, bold beast. A basic scent that is not subtle.

While the basic premise is "wood meets more wood", this is a scent with its own complexity. It starts out with a mild bite of white pepper that works its way into an incense descent (not as bold or bad as Rush, though). This brings you to the dry, almost astringent, wood base. I get some vetiver and amber after the ginger and incense parts, but not so much the leather. I guess it's more of a dry leather, not too oily.

This is a great scent for winter and autumn. It could be used in summer, if used sparingly, but is best suited for cooler days and nights. It's incredibly warm and my skin feels and smells literally hot, as if warmth were eminating from the scent. Not for all people, but I can't resist the wood, white pepper and incense. A must try for all who like woodsy scents. Smells very masculine and noble (not Nobile). Brutal and classy at the same time. One of the rawest and most refined fragrances in the same instant. Keep this one away from the children. This is intended for adult use only.

By the way, see if you can find the 30 ml travel spray. It's one of my favorite bottle designs and sprayers of all time. The color sums up the scent, too.

An instant classic...for those who like this sort of thing.
Recommended for those who liked the CdG Incense Series.

As many others have said, this does have that distinct "pencil shavings" smell to it. However, I think it's a little besmirching to say that about this fine scent...

I really do love this, BUT I just can't see myself ever wearing it. I did almost buy a bottle after I tested it. I love woody scents, and this one isn't too sharp (except at first, of course), and it becomes quite warm and rounded in the drydown, which also seems to come fairly quick. On me, it lasted long enough to keep me happy (several hours). I imagine cedar and pine, tempered with a little amber...

However, if I ever bought a bottle (and the though is very tempting), I think I'd use to perfume my furniture, curtains or carpets, rather than myself. The idea of having my own little private library or reading room smelling of this scent is very appealing. But is that reason to buy a bottle. Hmmm...

I'm giving this my thumbs' up because it is a rich, powerful, warm, evocative and comforting resinous scent. I just can't see how this is wearable on a person... But kudos to Gucci on a well-crafted cologne.

I can definately see this as an acquired taste, so don't buy it blind.

"Oh my god Anthony, you smell like a church!" was the comment that my girlfriend at the time made when I came home wearing this after treating myself to a birthday purchase. This is a winner for Gucci. It is pure, modern class. I love the "burnt wood from a camp fire" smell! Also, this has my vote for the best bottle ever made; it is so heavy and fun to use! The juice is potent so 1-2 sprays will do.

First, let me say this scent is not for everyone. It can be defined as an aquired taste. I gave my father some of this for his birthday, and he had to give it back to me. At first whiff, I'm sure the first response will be, “It smells like a pencil sharpener from grade school!” This was my first response too. But once you overcome the initial shock, give it a few hours to settle in. Yes, the initial blast is peppery and woody. Some would say pungent. Did I mention it's woody? However, once things settle down, the ambery, leathery, and sweet notes start to appear. And that's when it hits you that this juice is fantastic. Good for nighttime and going out. Would never wear while the sun is still out. Lasts until dawn.

Gucci Pour Homme is, hands-down, my favorite winter cologne. I tested Azzaro Visit today, and while it is very pleasant, it didn't have quite the depth of GPH. Actually, Azzaro Visit reminds me of a combination of GPH and Gucci Rush. Another close one is Tommy Bahama, which is reminiscent of GPH with a slight tropical angle. If anyone is familiar with the fragrance of burning piñon wood, GPH bears a striking resemblance. I live in the Southwest, where it is burned often during the winter months. When traveling in Santa Fe, you'll smell it in the air. GPH is a fantastic, distinctive, masculine fragrance.

On me this is a simple and straight-forward, but unique and masculine fragrance. It's a very clear and clean smelling scent to me. Not clean-fresh as in citrusy or soapy, as it has no citrus or soap, but rather clean and clear as in spicy and direct - there's no powder smell at all. There are also no floral notes that I can detect, and virtually no fruit. This one is all leather, wood (smells cedary to me) and white pepper. Not the pungecy and muskiness of black pepper, but the crisp clarity of white pepper. As it dries you get a softer woodsy scent with a buttery leather note, and the white pepper still tingling. The only downside for me is that it just does not last (a problem I seem to have with all the Guccis I've tried: Pour Homme, Rush, and Envy). I wear this more than anything and in all situations, day or night. It's very classy and very masculine. It's bold without being heavy or intrusive.

Elegant and classic bottle as well. Another on of my absolute favorites.

Probably the woodiest fragrance I've ever smelled. It starts off with a dry smoldering cedar note. As a 21 yr old, I never thought I could pull it off because it struck me as a scent for older people. However, I find that it can be pulled off by any age group as long as you're not wearing pajamas and basketball shoes. I find it formal/semi-formal and wouldn't quite fit a jeans/t-shirt outfit. Despite others complaining about its longevity, it laaasts on me. I could still smell it the next day. The best part of this scent is the drydown IMO. The dry cedar note softens up and reveals a soft vanilla-like sweetness. It's a must try if you like woody scents.

Warning! Warning! Warning! This fragrance may discontinued after a couple of years. Look at Gucci's track record of discontinuing classic fragrances. I wouldn't get to used to Gucci scents because it seems they'll be long gone before too long, replaced with what Gucci will hope to be a "money-maker." Forget about older customers who came to love their older fragrances. It seems like they want to appeal to the younger crowd, forget about the older crowd.

A bold, super-woody experience! It is sexy in an animal sort of way, unlike any other woody scent out there (although Commes des Garcones is in the same category). Sophisticated box, striking bottle, and extraordinary brown liquid inside. Be sure to try it first, and then try it again after some while, to get the best impression of this scent; it may or may not work, depending on your impression.

It is very distinct and the smoky woody notes are heavy and unforgiving. It will NOT grow on you if you don't like it the first time. But if you DO like it the first time, you will like it more and more each day. For the simpler ones among us (including myself) - yes, it is the smell of pencil shavings, and uniquely that distinct memorable note sits in the dry-down, not on top. It is the papyrus wood: it reminds us of pencil shavings because sharpened pencils smell of soft warm wood and also the glossy soft paint that covers them. Someone asked here what to do if they discontinue this? I know. I will buy probably ten or twenty bottles to last me till the day I die. I honestly don't know of anything else quite SO accomplished. When I was younger, I always wished they would bottle the smell of frankincense and myrrh and create the church like experience in a bottle. Years later Tom Ford had the "Gothic-bug" and created this scent. Now I am terribly indebted to him. This is one of my top faves of all time! Gucci Pour Homme is a departure from most other recently released designer fragrances. It’s a leathery fragrance that at first smells very smoky. As it evolves and you smell it more, you come to realize it’s not smoke you smell, but rather, a white pepper. It’s a very dry peppery leathery fragrance that comes off as smoky. It’s very interesting. It wears very differently than most other fragrances I own, also. It tends to just disappear for an hour, then show up again full strength.

"Sir, have you been burning mesquite wood in your bedroom's Kiva fireplace again?", my trusted Lieutenant inquired of me. "Why, no, venerable assistant," I replied, "I can scarcely believe the scent generated by my new fragrance, Gucci Pour Homme, for it does smell just like mesquite wood burning in a Kiva fireplace in northern New Mexico. Ah, how I long to experience the wonders of northern New Mexico again!"

Only Gucci Rush, from the same stable, smells anything like Gucci Pour Homme, and that's a good thing. This is often referred to as cedar in character, but I don't appreciate any cedar, rather mesquite, and then the pyramid states "papyrus." Yes, there is also pepper and cumin, donned with a light touch of vanilla. Overall, a strong, polarizing scent, that I reserve for fall/winter.

While not as good as Azzaro Visit, I still like the new Gucci. I feel like I've spent a weekend outdoors, camping and cooking hot meals over an open fire. The campfire smoke scent is what I enjoy most about this scent. It isn't as sleek or urban as Visit and it has no intention of being so. This is definitely a throwback scent and in that regard, Tom Ford hit his mark. Plus, it has one of the finest bottles in the men's market. Strong and simple, like a great whiskey glass full of your favorite bourbon.

Pour Homme is a linear scent, with much smoky burning woods plus sweet and bitter spices. It does develop a bit when u r exposed to sunshine, and i think it can sometimes produce greater 'sweetness' depending on your skin. On me it produces just enough hint of vanilla (and for some reasons women like a hint of vanilla hahaha). Very recommended for men who doesnt like complicated scents. Good for businesspeople too as it reflects a strong distinct character. Will stock up on this.

Yes, it is undoubtedly a smell of pencil shavings! And I admire this odour which right away returns me to my youth when I used to sharpen a huge number of pencils (for college descriptive geometry study). :) So it's a sort of "nostalgia-defiant" scent and I can't get rid of that feeling.

My vision of GPH is clear, rich and dense fragrance that undeniably worth being possessed. Still if you are not as fond of descriptive geometry as I am ;) beware of "buy-without-try".

This stuff is mind-bogglingly good! Two enthusiastic thumbs way up! It certainly hearkens back to the classic scents of the 70's; it's undeniably masculine. It has a strong woody aroma, not unlike Gucci Rush or Azzaro Visit, though it's also a lot more pungent (peppery?) than those two. Also, what you smell at the onset is what you get all the way through--it's a very linear scent. Though it's certainly strong, it seems that after it dries down it stays fairly close, at least on my skin. Every guy I've asked likes it a lot, along with several women. All this, plus the bottle design is gorgeous. Highly recommended.

While there are scents I enjoy equally as much as this, for depth and richness of fragrance it just doesn't get any better. This is a wonderful, vibrant, incredibly beautiful fragrance. Frankly, if someone doesn't like it that wouldn't matter in the slightest. I do. Many many many thumbs up.

Though I am not notmally attracted to so masculine scents, this one is a real winner. I have tried it so many times that I feel as if i had possessed it. I cannot speak of the tenasity of the scnet but I am really taken aback everytime I smell it. I think that it will be my next purchase.

Solid linear scent, lasts all day. Perhaps since I don't remember the 70's, I don't find that it is reminiscent of that decade. To me it is utterly modern.
While it isn't a scent I would wear on sequential days, I believe it can be worn on practically any occasion, perhaps more so in the fall or winter. To me, this scent smells like I placed my arm in a burning fireplace, and removed it unscathed. On the other hand, my GF calls describes it as indian spices.
Hefty container.

Worth the wait. It has a very pleasant honey like sweetness from the ginger and white pepper. Its not an "in your face" offensive smell like alot of the 70's colognes it evokes. The bottle weighs a ton! It copies the Michael Kors bottle design though with the basic square shape and top. Overall, a worthy succesor to Envy. 4 stars

Another fabulous scent from Tom Ford! Mainstream, it is not! Smooth, woody/leathery and refined! Deep dark amber color juice, and a heavy, thick, square glass bottle, gives this distinct fragrance alot of clout! The amber/leather basenotes with the papyrus/orris heart, gives this fragrance its longlasting, but subtle appeal. Another "sniff" down a different fragrance path. Try it!! and Rive Gauche too!

This is a great new scent by Gucci. It does harken back to the good "old" days of REAL scents that have warmth and spices you can smell and feel...and it lasts!!! This is sure to be a new classic for those who like it real and classy. J. Augustt 11/06/03
