I tried this in "Norway" at Epcot in Disney World. I found it to be surprisingly good and based on other's opinions, that seems to be the consensus. I really cannot pick out any specific notes, but the overall affect is very good.

Geir is a fragrance that’s been hyped so much it’s inevitable some will be sorely disappointed with it. I was, initially, but it didn’t take me long to appreciate it on my own terms. It's invigoratingly fresh and extremely pleasant to wear, and it’s also very versatile. All those references to meadows and mountain air are, to some extent true, but there’s also a vanillic sweetness that one should be prepared for.

Even though Geir isn't a groundbreaking scent, it doesn't go out of its way to proclaim that it is. Its longevity is impressive and it’s almost impossible to over-apply. Also, although it’s ideal for wearing all year round, it’ll probably reveal its charms more during spring and autumn.

Geir's main flaw, however, is that it can smell too synthetic and clean at times, but it's still a pleasant (albeit safe) creation.

My winter version of Le Roy Soliel, something to lounge in jeans and raw silk shirts, as you hold court ever so casually. It's an amazing oriental frag that is not the least bit cloying. Still, being an edp, beware of the trap of over dousing, as some reviewers already noted.

The scenario that winters to mind (sorry, couldn't resist) that springs to mind is standing with your true love, at Yosemite, The Grand Canyon, The Fjords or Alps, or some equally breathtaking wonder of the woods, holding her hand and watching the sun rise over the mountains at dawn.
Of course if you don't have true love, it's also a great clubbing scent that doesn't club any girl over the head unlike, say, Platinum Egoiste--to name the best of the 'loud bunch'

Enjoy!

If you want a really good review of this, look at all of the reviews, now use the "find" feature in your web browser. Look for "teflondog."

Now, ready, I'm going to ruin this scent for you...

PEPTO BISMOL...

WINTERFRESH GUM

WINTERGREEN TIC TACS.

Ha, I do love this stuff, but, it really does remind me of these things. As a side note, I love the taste of pepto.

Spicy nothing. Cool nothing. Fresh nothing. Clean nothing. Synthetic nothing.

But "nothing" can actually end up being a good something. Am I making sense?

Geir smells more like a really refreshing "mountain scent" fabric softener or laundry detergent than anything else to me. I don't smell any really discernible notes, and it feels pretty synthetic. At that, I'm still a big fan of this stuff, but I can't imagine buying a full bottle. I'm also not sure about that "cool" note in it - It's really hard to describe, since the note doesn't smell like anything, while it simply feels cold... strange and disconcerting. As Wiley1st said, don't overspray, unless you want Geir to get all "chemically" on you.

This one is powdery, sweet, mysterious and sexy. I even detect some booziness which adds to its mysterious presence. This is also really potent when I sprayed on the back of the hand and it lasted for hours and I could still detect it after washing my hand a few times. I may test this one out one more time just to be sure if it's as good as I first thought. This is no doubt a quality fragrance. I imagine this to be most perfect for the fall/winter season but it can definitely be used all year.

First I must say that I think Quarry quite much nailed it when she said "A scent whose time, perhaps, has come and gone..." Spot on, love.

It`s a nice scent though, I won`t deny that. Sweet, fresh, moist and sticky. Can be easy to wear and will probably please the people around you. Nice lasting power.

I bought a large bottle few years ago, but after few wearings I noticed a major problem : It had a tendency to sting my nose, literally, even when I sprayed moderately. I`ve had this same problem with few other scents as well ; at least Basala, Xeryus Rouge and Ungaro III comes to mind...
I`m not sure what is it, but its true. Maybe it`s somekind of aromachemical that my nose detests. Go figure.

Shame, because I quite like the aroma, although its a bit boring and not that original.

But then, if something stings and burn my nostrills, it desrves thumbs down to say the least !

Geir is one sexy b****. it has one of the "coolest" opening to mid notes. Smells so "powdery fresh in a very old spice way"(strangely it reminded me of Creed's Himalaya too)...its the kind where you step in a party at your freinds place..and they'd be charmed!..You enter a car and the whole car lights up with it's freshness... you go for a date and the her eyes work like hands on ya!!! Lovely stuff! Spritz away!! it smells of youth, luxury and playful attitude.

The opening to mid notes remind me of a powdery version of Old Spice/Himalaya way..cool moutain breeze which carry mild woody notes with the hint of pepper and lavender, the scent on whole has a very talcum powder kind od powdery effect and at the same time one could feel the wet natuire of this scent..somewhere between the midnotes-basenotes this scent morphs into another character altogether..something like gunpowder/steel/metallic accord on a base of somethin which smells very close to Boss selections. i would buy this over and over for it's there to please. two thumbs up!

Superbly clean and fresh. I'd almost say it's a clear, slightly sweet and amazingly long-lasting. It's uplifting on a warm day and comforting on a fall day. It whisks the grays away on rainy days and compliments the cold, snowy winters. You gotta love it or at least admit it's good.

The thing that first impresses me about Geir is not the smell, but rather its effect on me. Whenever I first apply Geir, I get a similar result: a sense of extreme exhilaration, similar to what I feel on the first warm spring day when the air is fragrant and winter seems to have lost its grip on nature. It is a wonderful feeling and if Geir did nothing further, it would be enough. (I am not suggesting that Geir smells exactly like a spring day, just that it affects me like one. Nor would I suggest that it is my favorite opening in olfactory terms.)

As to the scent, it is green and woody. It possesses a measure of elegance and gentleness. Very nice. I think it is best to apply lightly, as it can be too sweet if heavy. The 15 ml bottle I have is a splash bottle with a relatively wide neck and I wish it were narrower. I enjoy it in warmer weather.

I get cold air, semi-green, semi-floral, and almost-sweet: it has an ambiguous vibe of "purity" that's fresh and clear. At times it's almost crystalline, which I also get from aldehyde-based scents (which could explain the Channel Allure Sport similarity noted in other reviews).

Lasts a good 8 hours on me and I have to be careful when applying: too much and it can be overpowering. The spray mechanism mists in a very wide angle, making it hard to direct sometimes, but you can always just unscrew the top and apply more exactingly as a splash (I wish more bottles were like this).

This is an ideal all-purpose scent for me. I feel I could wear it any time of the year, on any occasion (work included), and still feel confident about it.

10 seconds after application.
It is there... not offensive, that is good.
1 hour later.
it is still there, cool... I smell ahh... natural.
3 hours later.
A ball of grass rolls in front of you... It smells... nice.
6 hours later.
You hear a Cricket chirping... you smell nice someone says. Its Geir I say. And then we forget about it.

This is the the perfect gift for someone you do not know. Nice and safe scent... too nice and safe

Originally, this got a bad rating from me, in fact, I thought I gave it a thumbs down on here. But I am glad I didn't, even though neutral isn't great; the main reason why this is my rating is because I threw the rest of the sample out to before giving it another chance. although, some of it did get on my shirt. Like the squire, I smelled this the first time after I smelled so many other scents and was wearing different scents as well. Don't do that with this one folks, let it stand alone and give it a chance to dry down. If I am right, then it isn't that bad at all.

Geir starts out as a sweet, fruity-green scent in roughly the same genre as Creed’s Green Irish Tweed or Davidoff’s Cool Water. In fact, the first time I sprayed it on, I thought to myself: “Oh, GIT v2.0!” The opening accord is similarly fresh and pleasant, if a bit more reserved and woodsy. The similarity in mood persists for a while but Geir, to its credit, begins to move in its own direction.

The woods that sneak around in the opening become more dominant as the scent develops, entering darker, drier territory than the top notes ventured into. After the first hour or so, a smooth, resinous conifer note steps in to add a hint of the forest to the heart accord. Sillage and projection are both moderate, and the woody and ever-so-slightly mossy drydown is gratifyingly lasting. Geir remains a very safe, pleasant fragrance throughout, and while there’s not a whit of originality to it, it is easy to wear in any season or setting.

Thumbs up for this one. Just goes to show ya...READ THE FORUM ON MENS FRAGRANCE!!!!!!! LoL. I saw Geir by Geir Ness on a thread and wrote it down. Went today and got the sample from Nordstroms. At first smell...ehhhh..so- so...the reason why...I was smelling too many colognes at once.

HOWEVER...Geir will grow on you like you would not believe...Now listen..I haven't worn this yet but smelled it on the sample card and I LOVE IT! I cant wait to try it out this week!

This Nordic cologne is totally UNIQUE IMHO. A classy smell as well, smooth and definately a casual eveing wear cologne,...NOT a sporty type where you would waste it on daytime play.

I tell you...my collection that goes well for me is Traditional Blue by Hugh Parsons, Yves saint Lauren Homme', and Geir by Geir Ness. These 3 are for the "clean smelling scented" male no doubt...throw in Bvlgari Extreme and you have 4 good ones!

Stick to "Sport" colognes for any daytime wear and you wont go wrong.

You'll notice that the guys that DO NOT prefer this are used to a different "Musky" "Dark" type colognes...again these colognes I mentioned are for the guys who prefer THE SAFER NICE CLEAN SMELLING COLOGNES lol.

Geir made a comback today! Cant wait to try it out, would have never known of this one if I didn't surf the message boards.

Hmmm… Several nonbelievers lately. I wouldn’t count this one out yet. Geir has plenty of future in it. It is quite a unique fragrance so it is bound to cause polarization. Geir opens with a fresh aroma: It’s not the usual citrus or ozonic. I think it’s a quite muted and smoothed out green and floral; it is very fresh and somewhat synthetic. Even though it strikes me as rather generic, it’s thoroughly refreshing, very comfortable, and gives the feeling that there are better things coming. I believe Geir does have a fairly traditional pyramid, and the second stage, the heart notes, goes very smooth and floral—but not the floral of the traditional perfume flowers. The florals are muted and soft green, and I think of them as floral primarily because there is no sharpness to them, just a simple hug-the-skin soft floral and berry that have neither a masculine nor a feminine ambiance. There are some soft woods in the background that add a real, albeit subtle, masculinity to the accord. And there it stays…it lasts for hours as a quiet, beautiful rather floral / sweet fruity / green / woody skin scent. Care should be taken that it is not over sprayed, it can get synthetic and cloying. It should be understood that this is not a high sillage fragrance.

This stuff is good, but not good enough to deserve this much hype. It is fresh and sweet. It's light and airy. It's inoffensive and gets plently of compliments. It's boring. Very boring. It's great for what it is, an inoffensive scent everyone, even the often snobbish tastes of our own (myself included of course) can enjoy. But, once again, it is BLAND.

A scent whose time, perhaps, has come and gone, at least amongst sophisticated fragrance consumers. Conversely, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this friendly, summery scent. There is only one note in here (wish I could name it specifically) that keeps Geir from a feminine, or at least unisex, qualification--it's generally difficult for me to tease out Geir's individual notes, but I perceive a partially aquatic quality.

It combines bright/fresh notes with warm sweet notes. To me that just does not work that well, though clearly it does for a lot of others. I don't dislike it, just have a hard time getting excited about it.

Recently tried a decant of Geir. Overall, I was not very impressed. Upon initial application I found it to be quite flowery smelling and really downright feminine. Once it dries down a bit, we're supposed to get that scent which is described as the freshness of the mountains. I found it to be a very sweet vanilla type scent at this point emerging.

Longevity wise it is quite decent, not too intense either, not bad on that respect.

Overall though, I didn't find it to be anything very special at all and too sweet/feminine for my tastes.

Tried this at Nordstrom's today and found it to be bland, boring and uninspired. Good for those who need to update their Old Spice but generic in every sense of the word. Smells a lot like a BOUNCE dryer sheet except not as sweet. There are DEFINITELY better fragrances out there.

I got a sample as a freebie. I wouldn't have sampled it otherwise since it sounded like some cool, clean ozone and I hate those. I'm pleasantly surprised it's not. Actually, I don't find it very fresh at all, it's rather unexpectingly sweet.
It could be the masculine version of a Luctor et Emergo dupe I've got - a similar salty sweet powdery Playdoh-note (vanilla I think) combined with the green freshness of cut grass. The reason this is more masculine is that the green grass note is stronger, it's slightly spicy and it doesn't have that strong sweet cherry note. I quite enjoy it. The odd combo of powdery sweet and juicy, bitter green makes it on the verge of stale, but I still like it.

I am not usually a vanilla fan, far from it. They do not USUALLY work on my skin. My wife loves them.

Well bought some Gier after reading the posts and receiving a sample. I am very impressed ! First spray i detect a soapy blend of herbs, green woods vanilla's and maybe menthol. You could be standing on a mountain! then the drydown is superb, vanilla herbaceaous glacial water! I am receiving lots of compliments.Geir CANNOT be worn like EDT. Spray lots on your chest, even your back. Smells great that way and very much appreciated by the fairer sex! not masculine power, but an aura of a confident male, hidden sexiness my wife says!

give it a go!

Reading all the raving reviews on BN I was expecting a super fragrance, so I blindordered this. I was really underwhelmed. It smelled not bad , but not great either. And way too synthetic and loud. I really don't get the edp classification also, cause this one lasts a regular 3 hrs on me. If this was a new Hugo Boss release , I'm sure this was less popular over here.I'm one of the few that rather wears Allure Sport instead. IMO just another overhyped, overrated fragrance here on Basenotes.

geir doesn't work the magic on my skin. its a good scent but very over rated. I need a little sillage in my scents and geir has less than that. a fresh crisp breeze with some fresh cut grass with vanilla making its presence known. I love the scent but it doesn't get known much when I wear it.

This has been disappointing so far. I have tried the sample three times within the past two days, but my impression of it so far is that its a decent soft sweet floral oriental scent but doesnt stand out. Its a nice unobstrusive scent, but I dont think it compares to the best of what the Malles, Creeds and Lutens have to offer. With all the fresh mountain air comparisons, Creeds SMW smells much better and more unique (although I think neither SMW or Geir elicit the fresh mountain air feel). I dont get what all the basenotes hype is all about ...

I love this on my husband, and it smells completely different on me, so I like to wear it once in a while on a cold winter's day, too. A little goes a long way and really lasts. Walking through a cloud of it is a good way to apply so it's not too strong. Lovely woody drydown.

My first review was a rush judgement. The first spray, and it was wonderful. After testing and testing and the great reviews are in my head as well so I'm thinking everybody smells it and loves it but , nobody is really making a comment. So as of today. It doesent last very long on me as I thought it did I say 5 hours, which is fine but I was thinking maybe 8 or more hours. For the most part it does stay close to the skin. And as with comments, not many at all but the few comments I did get were fantastic. Lots of vanilla but its done so smoothly. Indeed GEIR is a wonderful juice imo and not that superb as all the talk imo. Do I think its worth buying? Yes

I'm joining the thumbs up squad. While it's certainly not perfect, as many here make it out to be, it's very pleasant for the most part. That's the word that best sums it up: pleasant. True, it isn't terribly unique, and it even borders on being too sweet much of the time, but it never bothers me or anyone else.

It starts out with a fruity fresh smell mixed with a few dabs of honey. When it starts to dry, you get less fruit, more wood, and still that sweet vanilla/honey thing. As it progresses, I get more and more wood, with a grassy smell that I don't like too much creeping in. It might be the only scent that I own that I find has a worse base than top. It's not bad by any means, just a little bitter and sour smelling at the very end (could just be my skin). Still, the vast majority of the evolution is great, so it gets a hearty thumbs up!

Sorry to be the first one to give this one a thumbs down. I tried to like it but could not. With all the hype about how amazing it was, I had to get one, to my surprise it just smelt plain boring, it does not smell much different then Givency Blue label and Allure Homme Sport it has aairy fresh note and a cherry like sweetness.

The lasting power and sillage are not that good either, I know its a EDP but its not much different then a EDT, it lasted about 4 hours on my skin even during then I could hardly smell it. During the few days I wore Geir I did not get one compliment or a head turn like a few other fragrances.

Some newer fragrances take a little getting used to, but not so with Geir. It is immediately accessible and good-smelling. I only have a small sample, but it's definately on my "must get" list. Bravo to the Norwegians who made this: it terrific.

Winterfresh! No, I'm not here to talk about gum, this is the perfect fresh scent for winter. It's warmer, deeper, smoother and stronger than any other fresh scent making it perfect for cold weather. Should work any time tho. The drydown is especially nice, garners a fair number of complis. There is a somewhat annoying though luckily subtle chemical note that can be detected when inhaling deeply close to the skin, but the sillage PURE FIYAH. One complaint is that my sprayer is an absolute piece. If the employees at Nordstroms weren't such assholes I'd go back there (and prolly will anyways) to get a new bottle. I'll show them who's always right...

As a lover of oriental scents, I can honestly say that I've found my holy grail in this scent. Geir is very tempermental and can take on different characteristics depending on your method of application. However, the worst thing you could do is overspray with this one. Keep in mind that it is an EDP. If you spray on too much, it becomes very heavy and cloying. It doesn't open up or develop the way it should. In fact I would go so far as to say that it isn't even the same fragrance anymore if you overapply. With that being said, if you apply it just right (it takes some practice) it is such a heavenly scent. It's fresh, crisp, and sweet all at the same time. The description of it doesn't provide much information because not many people know what Norwegian mountain air is supposed to smell like.

Many have compared it to Allure Homme Sport. However, it lacks the sophistication, beauty, and artistic nature of Geir. Sure it may give you a broad idea of what it smells like, but that idea is very broad indeed.

It starts off very bright and fresh. It's like a basket of freshly picked leaves, grass, and dew from a secret meadow. Throw in some ripe berries, add a touch of honey, and set it out in the sun to let the warmth eminate from its aroma. Soon the brightness mellows down into a smooth, silky array of freshly picked flowers and sweet woods. These woods are never heavy or pungent. They make their presence just barely enough to build a solid foundation and tie all the notes together. The scent is masculine, yet at the same time it is so soft and graceful that you would think that only the gentle hands of a woman could make something this beautiful. If I had to take a guess at what the Garden of Eden smells like, it would be in this bottle.

It is a unique scent that won't make you blend in with the crowd. While it may be somewhat common here on Basenotes, it definitely isn't a mainstay among the general population. You won't be like everybody else with it because 1.) it isn't widely available, and 2.) an average person won't go out looking for this. The bottle and packaging is straightforward and simple. It doesn't come with a lot of bells and whistles, which is probably why a common buyer would overlook this on a shelf at Nordstroms.

As for lasting power, you won't ever have to think twice whether or not it has faded because it has extremely impressive longevity. I've received a few compliments from people 6-7 hours after applying it. In fact, it's one of those scents that actually get stronger as time passes. I do recommend you getting a decant, especially if you like scents from the oriental category. I admit that I wasn't impressed by it at first. But after subsequent wearings, all of its true facets and nuances spoke to me. I can truly say that it's my greatest scent of all time.

I tried this the other day and like the others...I loved it. It has a beautiful aroma to it. It's sensitive yet not overly so. Reminded me of Xeryus Rouge in its scent, but with a slighter woodsy/aquatic base. It's floraly but very pleasent. Thumbs up...way up.

Being norwegian, i can attest to its uniquely nordic zest. SO GOOD, i may just have to throw away my whole wardrobe to make room for an arsenal of Geir. Geir is a great soft, fresh, and unique fragrance for men. It’s very complex and well made. Fresh rain like aquatic accords with grassy accords and citrus accents make up Geir. It’s very fresh, yet dynamic, and very pleasant to wear. One of the better fresh fragrances for men.

Highly original floral composition that really doesn't remind of anything else. Picture a snowcovered mountainside with crisp air, the breeze sweeping through the surrounding woods and the most delicate white flowers growing in the white landscape, this is the image Geir creates. I'm really not exagerating this is how powerful of a scent Geir really is. And the fact that an ordinary norwegian guy like Geir Ness has achieved worldwide success with this and Laila, the womens fragrance, says everything about the quality and work contained in the simple, stylish bottle. The fact that this is one of very few masculine florals that work + superb longevity doesn't exactly weaken it's glory!

I've been told I smell like sex, a meadow, and summertime fresh cut grass! At first I was unimpressed after sniffing the tester, but after wearing the juice I am totally hooked and this is an instant classic! Completely unlike anything else I have tried, Geir needs to be tried on the skin as it defintely depends on its wearer!

I just received my Geir Eau D' Parfum from Geir Ness. I would have to put this Eau D' Parfum on top of my list. This Eau D' Parfum captures crisp norweigan mountains, blended with herbs, wetwood and natural oils. You can actually smell the wetwood and it leaves a very distinctive and sensual scent, that holds it's barrier for a very long period of time. I can honestly say that my co-workers, friends and family have all complimented me on how this cologne sets off a wonderful scent.. I would recommend it for those who enjoy a Eau D' Parfum at a very reasonable price that will last a full work day at the office, or an evening out in the town......Try it you won't be dissappointed.. Good day.
