Now this surprisingly does not smell very aquatic, though solely looking at the list of notes could easily convince anyone otherwise. I would give it credit for not smelling like your typical calone-saturated marine scents. It is a little powdery, soapy and has an old school/dated vibe to it. 13 November 2009

This is not my favourite cologne, nonetheless, I can say with out a doubt that I have never received as many compliments with any other cologne as I have with Polo Blue. I received it as a gift and thought it smelled nice (it didn’t blow my mind), but for some reason whenever I wore it chicks seemed to dig it. So now I’ve grown to love it… can’t argue with results! 08 August 2009

A sharp alcohol beginning, fades to a fresh scent, with powdery under tones. I don't smell any of the friuty notes, I get more of the musk, and amber in the dry down. A youthful scent. The original Polo in the green bottle is still my favorite of the RL collection. 17 July 2009

Nice...when I smell this I think it smells brilliant, but I never get any other feedback when I wear this,as opposed to other scents I have worn...so it is a bit of a let down in that respect. It is fresh, clean, and very long lasting, and quite distinctive, and I like it...so....thumbs up. 21 June 2009

Very Clean scent, not the typical acquatic-marine, it is a bit more shall I say romantic-sporty? It reminds me or Romance Silver, but less citrusy. Excellent for office wear. I usually wear Creed GIT for the office, but honestly, I find this one very pleasant, uncomplicated, and rightly priced, and I find that I can easily wear any of them at any given time. Don't bash it based on the old Polo Sport that just like AD'G was worn by the masses and most people with more sophisticated taste began to despise. Those colognes had their own beauty and this one is really good and it has its very own identity. I personally prefer Explorer from the new RL, but still, I cannot understand the real ugly criticism to this very pleasant cologne. 12 June 2009

Polo Blue: Fun, fresh, carefree, always a hit with the ladies. Nothing but compliments from the ladies when I wear this. My only complaint (my girlfriend shares this viewpoint) is that it smells a little girlie at the end of the day. 07 June 2009

I really don't get all of the hate for this fragrance. It's not really an aquatic and does not have the "watery" smell of an AdG or Bulgari Aqua. Fresh cucumber provides an unique fresh and uplifting start. More musky on the dry-down. It's not my favorite in my collection, but I really enjoy it from time to time. Well worth a try and certainly undeserving of all of the animosity, IMO. 31 May 2009

Polo Blue does nothing amazing but it has a simple honesty that is refreshing. It makes you smell like you're freshly showered. That's really the only way to explain it because it smells like soap and shaving cream. I happen to like the freshly showered scent. I bought this for my husband, but I find myself wearing it a lot too. I get compliments from both men and women. It's nothing I (or my husband) would wear to a black tie event, a nightclub, or even a dinner party, but it's the perfect fragrance for going to the gym or to the park with the kids on a hot day. I'm sure perfume enthusiasts and elites would scoff at this one, but I like the smell of soap and this fragrance suits me just fine. 24 April 2009

Smells really nice and fresh initially, but that only lasts for a few minutes. After the top-notes are gone, it smells like old paper. I really wanted to like it because of the initial burst. 09 April 2009

I don't know what it is, but I just don't like this scent. I felt like it would be right up my alley, but its just annoying. It gives me a headache, I think it may be the cucumber note. Its like spicy cucumber or something. I'll pass. 04 April 2009

My first experience of an American was a guy at my prep school. He had the stupidest name, and I can't repeat it here verbatim because it'll surely identify him, but let's call him Windy. Suffice it to say that Windy coloured my opinion of Americans for about 20 years, until I went there on business and discovered that the only reason he'd turned up in London was because he was too awful for over there. Polo Blue is Windy in a bottle. Citrusy salady fresh and uni-dimensional. Unsubtle, juvenile, rude and a bit fat. And like Windy, I bet it's doing extremely well... 29 March 2009

This is really odd – I actually kind of like this one. It’s odd because I usually don’t care about these kind of scents that much (without some exceptions) – It’s odd also because there I reviewers putting this down on heavy hand; reviewers I usually tend to agree with. Okay, it’s not that exciting or special, but to my nose it is blended better than average juices of this kind and you know what; it lasts on me very well. Fresh, subtle and natural smell of green fields and flowing cool rivers. Nice, but I must give a neutral rating after all for a reasons that its true that there are much better scents of this category available plus I wouldn’t never buy myself a bottle of this. Still, very acceptable flanker for original Polo. 15 February 2009

The opening is wonderful. It's very smooth and watery, quite "blue," with a sweet-ish cucumber note. Reminds me of walking along the beach in the early evening, a slight breeze blowing, next to a blue ocean... ...and then some jackass runs up and hits me in the face with a pizza. Uh, who thought it would be a good idea for such a blue, watery, aquatic fragrance like this to dry down to basil? Basil! As in the type of basil you keep in your spice cabinet that you use to make pizza or Italian spaghetti. This dry-down is just gross, and completely ruins what would have been a great fragrance. Someone at Ralph Lauren needs to be fired. Or beaten. Or both. 30 August 2008

This just smells very generic to me, it reminds me of a time when men's aftershave was generic and everyone had basically the same scent. The fragrance is harsh on my nose, the "fresh" scent reminding me more of something very astringent and biting. 12 August 2008

first of all its a nice scent, my gf likes it a lot, It starts sweet, then fades to a nice melon, cucumber, basil mix which smells nice and not offending, I dont like aquatics like coolwater which has a pronounce alcoholish cologne scent, or aquatics which has citric notes which turns sour on warm days, polo blue is sweet and cucumbery fresh, and doesnt turn sour on humid days, Its the one of the top Blue scents 11 July 2008

I want to like it, and sometimes I do for a few minutes at a time. The 'fresh' notes are overwhelming...it's overpowering. Melon notes are mixed with green notes, but they enhance each other instead of balancing each other. Although I generally like aquatic/fresh scents, and although I generally like RL offerings, Blue is just too synthetic smelling to be enjoyable. 23 June 2008

I did not want to comment on polo Blue because a lot of people already did. but then I saw this down-ward trend...basically Polo Blue bashing, and I had to say something. First this is a good scent. It is not a copy of anything, and it is deep and pleasant. When it was released, it was my number one cologne, unseating the infamous Issey Miyake. Nowadays, 5 years later, a lot of frags have tried to do the 'blue' thing, but to me Polo Blue is the original BLUE scent. So try it for yourself, it will disappear on some people, but trust that others can smell it on you even if you can't smell it on yourself. 05 June 2008

I don't understand why so many people hate this fragrance. It's not exactly a copy of 'any other aquatic out there', it has a very fresh and distinct smell. The base notes strongly resemble those of Armani Code, this is overall a very clean and maybe a bit sporty frag, it's not overbearing nor does it cause headaches... On a casual day, or maybe at work (but perhaps not at a funeral), this is exactly what you'd want to smell like, if you're a man. Polo Blue. Another extremely good frag in the polo series is Polo Double Black. Check into that if you liked this one (though they don't share similar qualities, DB is more for evening wear). 28 May 2008

Polo Blue is an excellent summer day-time fragrance. I always recieve compliments when I wear it. If you're considering Polo Blue I suggest it works best on men with a more musky natural scent. This uncomplicated and light fragrance does a great job of 'balancing things out' especially on warm summer days. 11 May 2008

Holy headache monster. After 10 minutes I had to jump in the shower in the middle of the day. Got up the courage to do it again a few days later and same effect. Not sure what it was, but I can't say I could recommend to anyone. 25 December 2007

Nothing is wrong with this cologne. Nothing out of place, or too strong. It's simple, clean, and fresh. Matches the bottle and color. No more. Dunhill Fresh I think still has an edge on Polo Blue, as top of the "Plain Blue" Colognes. On the good side of neutral for simplicity. 01 November 2007

Honestly, I have a reed diffuser from Pier One Imports in an aqua scent that smells exactly like this Polo Blue. I like it as a bathroom air freshener, but not on my man! 30 May 2007

Polo Blue mellow fougere/aquatic/slight spicy = mild little pony. Not a stallion, like Green. Polo black has a more aquatic rotten mellon top and blue has a more pleasant cucumbery yet still slightly aquatic top. The middle and base blend together into a very pleasant frag that tries to have personality but falls short due to its disapointing silage and stay. Overall, I like it, could not justify paying a premium cost, as I just cannot put into the same category as Safari and/or Green. I guess I would pay 20 cents on the dollar for this frag. 19 February 2007

Too generic, too simple and so, too expensive for its qualities. It is very fresh and then converts into something between basil and metal. 26 January 2007

This is my first cologne, I got it as a gift. I liked it at first, but I stopped liking it even before I started getting into scents (in fact, it may have partially spurred me to start looking at others). It's very woodsy. Decent smell, but it's very ho hum. 07 January 2007

I think polo blue is one of the best cologne that came out in 2002. Very discreet smell, at the same time very sophicated and classy. It will last longer on you than most cologne out there. This one is the one to use when you want to take your girl out on a romantic night. 02 November 2006

What a disspointment!. On first spray smell just lovely, very aquatic and fresh, citric and very melonny YUMMY, but after half an hour, just nothing, the fragrance dissapear from your skin and nothing remains. Bold. If you fancy something really fresh aquatic and obiously more long lasting, check out L'eau par Kenzo, Issey Miyake Bleue Frais, Quasar. There´s something on them special, high recommended if you like to feel different. 30 August 2006

Polo Blue has a nice fresh smell…it is clean and inviting, and that cucumber note is refreshing and clear in a vegetable sort of way. I like its fragrance better than several of the other aquatics, but I really don’t care too much for most of the other aquatics anyway. Polo Blue is really lacking in potency and projection: I have to concentrate a little to even smell it, and I’m not very rewarded for my effort. Its longevity is farcical. What I really don’t like about it, though, is that it shouldn’t have been named after a classic like Polo, it’s not in the same league. 29 August 2006

Yet another generic fresh scent. This feels really cheap. Doesn't last long, either. It was such a letdown. 24 August 2006

Nice smell, woodsy and dry, but doesn't last all that long. Not quite as "cotton-candy fluff" as Polo Sport. Slightly more refined and - dare I say it - complex! Is that the right word? Perhaps it's just not overtly waving around such a big, coloured flag as "Sport". It's sitting further back from the front row, in a nice tweed jacket, holding one of those little plastic flags you get in exotic cocktails. But you could very easily not even notice it. Again, like "Sport" it lacks a little definition, some potency and sillage, but in its favour, it is slightly more refined. I would consider wearing this one out to a party or social occasion. But only if I wasn't required to stay more than five minutes. I own it, but I think you could do better. 04 May 2006

If it is so terrible, then how come it became 2004 Basenote Award winner? It's good for what it is. Fresh, uplifting, and airy. Very casual and wearable. Perfect for dining al-fresco in Santa Monica Promenade or Sunset boulevard in the summer or late spring. Oh yah, and girls love it! 26 March 2006

I bought this cologne when it was first introduced. I it the first time I smelled it. It seems to last all day on me and it's not to strong. I have repeatedly received comments from ladies about how good it smells. This is one of the few colognes I have bought twice when I ran out. On the ladies love scale of 1-10 with 10 being the highest, I give it a 9.2. 23 March 2006

Fresh, nice, and there is nothing offensive about it. Sounds good, right? NO, cuz it is really boring and doesn't last very long. there are MUCH better fresh choices out there. On the other hand, you could do worse. I say keep lookin'. 25 February 2006

This is almost a good scent. It’s not a standout sexy smell and the top notes are so overpowering. However, the dry down on it was nasty on me and fades after 20 minutes. The dry down is very weak so be prepared to carry the bottle everywhere with you if you want maximum effect. Polo Blue it’s not a bad fragrance but I prefer Bvlgari Blv. 09 February 2006

A very "generic" smell, but it is not a bad smell. People will not be able tell you are wearing polo blue, thoug, because it is not very unique. A for Lasting long and smelling great. C for unoriginality. 22 January 2006

It's a typical fresh scent, but I guess the cucumber note is enough to distinguish it from the rest. It's very refreshing after a shower, especially during the hot season. It's casual and I wear it whenever I need an uplifting scent. It won't overpower yet it still manages to attract some attention. I've gotten a few inquiries about it despite it being such a common fragrance(you would expect people to instantly recognize it). Lasting power is decent at most though. 11 November 2005

Not your average aquatic scent. The 'aquatic' note is implicit, due to the use of cucumber. Very refreshing and pleasant, quite inoffensive. Can definitely detect the 'Ralph Lauren house note' of oakmoss. 29 September 2005

I hate to say it, but I like this a lot more than the original, and that’s REALLY saying a lot. This is a pleasant ‘enough’ aquatic fragrance. Now, it’s synonymous with high school campuses and dances. This is one I can live without. 25 September 2005

At first, as with others here, I didn't care for this one too much. But once I got past the tester card and smelled it on a couple guys at work and elsewhere, I was hooked on its very clean, manly, spicy quality that wasn't loud in the least. It has an airy, watery quality to it which is different from the original Polo (which I will always like). A good outing scent, as well as for the office; sure to attract positive attention! 12 September 2005

I would describe this scent as "mediocre": nothing special, nothing to remember. I expected more from Ralph Lauren... especially since I was a huge fan of the original green. I will save my money for something with a little more personality. 04 September 2005

The cucumber and basil give the fragrance the nicest (almost guaranteed to not offend) water scent I've smelled. Perfectly casual and despite what others say, distinctive. Very nice on a warm summer day. I think it needs to be about 10 dollars cheaper and it would be perfect. I can't detect any wood in this one, just the basil at the end and cucumber. Receives many compliments every time I wear it. Overall, I figure this to be a mild and clean aquatic with the best take on a "blue" fragrance I've tried. Also, this is definitely a daytime scent, although it would work at night as well. Longevity is a bit below average, lasting about 3-4 hours and staying closer to the skin. You might want to take some with you in case you need to freshen up. 02 September 2005

I wore this one to work one day and a beautiful young lady came up to me and told me that I smelled really good, gave me her name and phone number, and left on the post-it note "Call Me!!!" I've never had this happen with any other fragrance. 31 August 2005

You can't go wrong with this. Some people commented on it's floral and watery scent, and I have to say that description is right on. Very light and pleasing, it doesn't hit you in the face like some other colognes. A pleasent scent for everyday use. 29 August 2005

I view the original Polo with loathing. How, or why, it became soo popular is beyond me. But this isn't about Polo, it's about the redemption that is Polo Blue. Definitely a straight up daytime wear cologne perfect for work or play. The melon top notes are easily picked out right away. Smells nice, but after smelling soaps, lotions, shampoos, etc. with a cucumber-melon fad raging locomotive, it almost was a bit boring just because of that. Does increase acceptance among the masses though. As the topnotes leave the stage the mandarin orange is apparent through the entire progression of the life of the scent. There is a sticky quality to the fragrance, particuarly the aformentioned citrus. But as a result the scent has very respectable staying power. In overview it's a pretty straightforward scent without any surprises. Pretty much what you sniff is what you get, notwithstanding the slight changes that individual body chemistry would have. A good choice for the uninitiated or easily offended. 09 August 2005

Topping my list of most pointless launches this decade together with the 2 recent Zegnas, Morgan de Toi and a handfull others. Sharp, sour, run of the mill garbage. The cucumber note is especially bad, and what a shame that they failed to use such a cool note in a good way. The only positive thing about Polo Blue is that it lasts for approximately 1 hour. 08 August 2005

Refreshing aquatic scent that is still mascular without being overpowering and strong. Top note has some melon like smell and it also lasts quite long. Type of scent that shouldn't disturb anyone. It's still subtle enough :) 07 February 2005

I would have to agree with a lot of people here. The scent is indeed clean and fresh (which I don't find so captivating as so many others do), but it melts down into a wonderful mixture of water and musk which I find so warm and pleasing, quite reminiscent of a mild summer afternoon. Pity its lasting power is (by all accounts) small. Still, I would give it a try. 23 November 2004

I first didn't liked this when I tried at a local mall because of the strong top notes. After wearing this for few minutes the fragrance settles into a nice mild and natural scent which is very pleasant and manly. As I started wearing day to day it turned out to be one of my favourite. Its worth it for the price. I paid $48 for a 4.5Oz EDT. I am sure for those who like mild and smooth scent this is a good choice to look at. 01 November 2004

I am not a great fan of Ralph Lauren Fragrances, except for the Original Polo But I recently sampled Polo blue.its alright but the funny thing is that there is a company called AXE they make anumber of lines of bodyspray, I am not sure if the company is American or British but the bodysprays are quite good and inexpensive, anyhow, one of the fragrance on the line is called TSUNAMI and it has an uncanny resemblance to Polo blue, I even did a test where I spray some each on separate hands and compare..AXE TSUNAMI cost $7, I collect fragrances too, I bought it 2 yrs ago..before blue was release...My point..its good but does not have the distinction of the original POLO 19 December 2003

Way too of its time. I doubt that in 5-7 years someone would remember this. Lack of personality, just a good boy's everyday scent. "Polo" name and polo player figure, same perfumer, same Ralph Lauren, same ... everything to be a good commercial scent. With this one you really can't go wrong but I don't like it because of it's waaaay too ordinary. My respect (not bucks) to the RL House for the feeling of time. Although I'd recommend this ONLY along with recomendation of developing your own fragrance tastes. 19 July 2003

Yep, a keeper: definitely day-to-day wearability. Went to ER recently at 10 p.m. on a Friday night (ohmigawd, horror scene you're imagining). Guy behind admissions counter had it on (o.k., so I work pt.time in mens fragrances, recognized it on contact). Made me feel better immediately. Imagine: noisy, chaotic, medicine-smell scene. First contact in this environment is man whose smell says, "I'm HERE, I CARE, I'll get something done for you, 'cause I'm professional and calm." Very nice, not offensive or overly strong, lasts fairly well, definite lingering impression. 07 July 2003

For you Creed fans out there, get this: I detect a hint of Tabarome in Polo Blue! Yes, after wearing it for a few days, it finally hit me--there is definite resemblence to Creed Tabarome. Now that I've said that, you'll say, "Ahhh, that's what it reminds me of...Tabarome with a twist of aquatic freshness". 08 September 2002
