Amazing! What a sleeper this one is. Vetiver + Incense = Acquatic? Perhaps it is the salty/citrus note. I don't know. I do know this is an unusual, well crafted, summer scent. However, months after discovering Vettiveru, I find Annick Goutal's Vetiver more wearable and more fun. The 'weird' mid note in Vettiveru (cedar? sundry ozonic attempts?) now turn me off. But objectively, it's a thumbs up 06 July 2009

Vettiveru is the best from this series but it's nowhere as good as my all-time favourite vetiver scent: Vétiver Extraordinaire. [Original submission date: 10 April 2008] 27 June 2009

This is a rich vetiver that has both a smooth and a raw side. It is light enough to wear in the summer, yet has an appealing depth. It is very middle-of-the-road (IMO), without the high-pitched citrus of Guerlain's (reformulated) Vetiver, nor the wild earthiness of Etro's. While a part of CdG's "cologne" series, I find vettiveru's strength to be fine; a good application will last 8 hours, though if you worry about putting on too much, a delicate application will burn off in 3. Personally, I think part of the reason CdG put this stuff in a 500mL splash bottle is to experience overindulgence in this bracing scent. Vettiveru is lively and masculine, making me feel calm and active. A lot of CdG's stuff is too sweet, raw or dorky for me, but vettiveru hits a real sweet spot. Highly recommended. 03 January 2009

Notes from luckyscent are: vetiver, bergamot, neroli, white cedar I sampled this briefly some time ago, so I knew it has longevity problems. To counteract, I applied 3 sprays on each forearm (to go under my sleeves). The Vetiver top note is very true to the source, and is exactly what I want to smell in a fragrance. Unfortunately, this stage lasts only about 10 minutes. I did not really smell any neroli, but I did smell a citrus accord, probably from the combination of bergamot and neroli. It blends quite well with the white cedar. Even though the Vetiver does not contribute much after the first 10 minutes, the later stages of development are also very pleasant. In fact, I think this is what I wanted Terre d'Hermes to be. But still, I want MORE Vetiver Bottom line: This is such a refreshing, pleasing cologne-type scent, that I could see it might be FBW despite the longevity issues. 22 October 2008

An attempt at a vetiver without lemon, choosing instead a strong cedar note, which results in an admirable attempt at something different from the usual citrus combo. However, it was a bit thin and dry. 15 October 2008

Rather nice vetiver but dull by itself. The first one I've encountered that's close to the new formulation of Guerlain's Vetiver that's translucent and soapy but still grassy. All the others are too darn grassy or are blended with notes that doesn't seem to fit quite right like LV's vetiver with lavender. Now, my favorite vetivers are mixed with incense or other smokey notes: Le Labo 46, Vetiver Extraordinaire, and CdG's own 2 Man. Vettiveru is nice and light and perfect anytime wear just don't expect a big bang. 23 September 2008

I used to mix my own scents with a pure vetiver oil base. I loved the clean, piney green freshness of the pure oil. Since becoming more intrigued by designer and niche fragrances I've been searching for that clean fresh vetiver scent in a more refined fragrance. I think I've found it in this one by Comme De Garcons. It has just enough of that clean biting vetiver edge without being overly harsh and the light citrus and woods notes are perfectly balanced to enhance the main event without overshadowing it in the least. Vettiveru stands just fine on its own and at least on me has surprising longevity for a cologne, however I'm also finding that this is an extremely versatile fragrance for layering given it's simple and fairly linear structure. I love it with Terre d'Hermes, Safari, Boucheron PH and more recently Davidoff's new cedar heavy fragrance Adventure just to name a few. It adds that little bitter bite that I love so much about the V note without going over the top. Kudos to CdG for this excellently crafted cologne. I only wish I could find the giant 12oz jugs around because I know I'll be going through a lot of this wonderful juice. It's hard enough to come by the smaller 4oz bottles but is seems that the large ones are all but extinct. Thumbs way up. Highly recommended for vetiver lovers everywhere! 22 August 2008

At first blush, I thought Comme des Garcons's Vettiveru was a strong contender for becoming my favorite vetiver. Its warm yet delicate vetiver beauty has a wonderful overlay of floral notes which helps it avoid the harshness of Guerlain's Vetiver Pour Elle (and clearly Guerlain's very masculine Vetiver). I also would say that Vettiveru is a bit more ladylike than Le Labo's Vetiver. In any event, when I intially applied it, I found its light scent to be extremely pleasant. However, that is what leads to its downfall. The problem with Vettiveru is that after about 20 minutes, it settles into a very pale, almost soapy version of its once beautiful self and then quickly peters out. Such a shame! Here are the notes courtesy of The Perfumed Court: vetiver, bergamot, neroli, and white cedar. 19 August 2008

Vettiveru is a fresh, clean, slightly soapy and very well made cologne. The bergamot and neroli are notes that really play well with the vetiver. Wood becomes noticeable in the drydown. This lasts about 4 hours on my skin (and I applied this conservatively) which is better than many scents at this price point. This is a very wearable fragance that is great value for money. I'd have no reservations recommending this to anyone looking for a light summer scent that is versatile enough to wear to work and play. 19 July 2008

Lovely fresh vetiver cologne with a touch of sweetness. It lasts all day on me with a liberal splash. Really good value also, which is saying something from CDG. 02 April 2008

Yum! What an incredibly refreshing, sweetly delicious citrus green opening. It's like jumping into a cool, crisp spring on a hot summer day. As with many vetiver scents I've experienced, this passes through a moment of orange blossom or perhaps jasmine - white floral at any rate - so much so that it actually makes me forget about the citrus and vetiver that was so apparent at the beginning. Once that floral moment has passed (and it passes quickly) I smell the grassier vetiver coming into prominence with its citrus components always standing closeby mumbling. As for the dirt, I'm just not getting it. Encre Noire, now that's some dirty vetiver, and Comme des Garcons 2 MAN... whoah! But this remains very clean on me through its duration. Sometimes vetivers to me smell like an idea of freshness whose time has come and gone. But this one is sharp enough, crisp enough, and slightly sour enough to give it a modern edge. And a natural smelling beauty like this from Comme des Garcons! Who knew? 18 October 2007

I'm a sucker for Vetiver. And I am so glad I resisted the temptation to buy Mugler Cologne until I'd had a chance to check this out. Of course I caved and got the half-litre keg and just love that, apres shower, I can splash on a few palmfulls and achieve the subtle, but stern vetiver radiance that I've longed for these past weeks... Yep, this stuff has a very nice V-resonance, and when not standing its own ground, can also provide a smooth, meditative base, allowing lead-players like the Vetivers Extraordinaire and Oriental to fly higher and farther than when they are forced to gig solo... Stiff T ups. 18 July 2007

This is a bracing tonic of a vetiver. Very pure, light and simple vetiver splash. Not overly sweet or extremely earthy - just pure green vetiver. It feels good on the skin to splash this juice on and all over. Has a cleansing feeling. Vettiveru comes in a huge jug of a bottle and is made to pour it out and splash - it's a weaker concentration for the purpose of dispensing liberally. The drydown is light cedar that you feel more than smell. Green. Very refreshing! 01 July 2007

I think Indie-Guy has it pretty much nailed. This is an excellent Eau de Cologne and it manages to be different from other Vetivers in a godd way. To me Creed Original Vetiver, Mugler Cologne and Dominguez Vetiver hombre share a certain barbershop-freshness, which I immensely enjoy. Guerlain, on the other hand, nauseates me due to its vulgar tobacco note (a minority view, I am aware). Then there's Etro's harshly woody take or Villoresi's brilliant uncompromising savage vetiver and also the richness and powder of Vetiver Oriental. This one just does its own thing. It's light, but persistent, it has both a green sting and a milky gentleness to it. Drench yourself in it and it will be softly wafting into your nose all day and make you feel good. To me it's far superior to the designer blandness of either Bulgari ph or Paul Smith Story - what an irony that a CdG fragrance not only smells far more interesting, but actually much more "natural" than these standard offerings. Five stars indeed. 14 June 2007

Nothing special here. I've always said this one is too similar to bvlgari PH. Vettiveru is not an earthy vetiver to my nose like guerlain which is a good thing to me. However, there is a new fragrance that beats vettiveru and bvlgari ph in this category of fresh vetivers which is Paul Smith Story. Yes, thats right, if you like vettiveru and bvlgari ph, get Paul Smith Story instead. Got get it! 19 April 2007

A very very soft vetiver, light and refreshing. A vetiver for those who have yet to get used to the bitter sharpness of it, a smooth transition from fresh inoffensive citrus scents or suchlike. Not bad at all, just not wildly interesting. And yes, I agress with previous reviewers that it has a certain creaminess, or rather creamy softness, to it. 08 November 2006

I wish I had known about Vettiveru before I purchased Mugler Cologne—I would have bought Vettiveru instead. This is a wonderful light vetiver scent—regularly oscillating between an excellent raw vetiver note and a sweeter, creamier vetiver note. I love the raw, dirty vetiver, and the creamier phase is ok. Vettiveru seems to serve the same purpose as Mugler Cologne, but it much more intriguing. Where Mugler Cologne is basically fresh and clean, Vettiveru is fresh and clean AND dirty—it adds interest and a whole new dimension of experience. Vettiveru also lasts longer. This is a great vetiver fragrance. 29 August 2006

If you are a fan of vetivers, you will want to bathe in this stuff! First off, it is a true Eau de Cologne, meaning it is very, very light in terms of sillage. It comes in a big seventeen ounce splash bottle. And you WILL have to splash it on quite liberally to get a good application. Rub it on your neck, arms and wherever...It doesn't project much, but it lingers for a long time. As for the actual scent. Its a very raw earthy, slightly dirty vetiver in the tradition of Goutal's Vetiver, yet it shifts back and forth to a green, fresh vetiver scent like Mugler's Cologne. And it has shades of the bitterness that is so "texture-like" in Guerlain's Vetiver. And it also reminds me of chewing gum, with its fresh topnotes. A perfectly balanced composition, with touches of floral notes and a dry bamboo-like accord. It's very addicting stuff, i'm finding. Both clean and fresh-soil earthy, it's the ideal skin scent. A bit salty and citrusy. Vettiveru is like an all-star team of the notes of all the classic vetivers. I just want to wear it every day. Just always remember its an EDC so it's not a sillage monster, you have to put ALOT on. You'll probably have to use one whole sample vial in one application. But then again that's why it comes in a seventeen ounce bottle. Everyone needs something like this in their 'drobe. One of the best I've seen in a long time. 23 December 2005

"That's a clean, green scent, Sir! Are you wearing your Coriolan again?" Vettiveru is a very nice vetiver scent. It is quite straightforward, with a clean, soft vetiver note throughout, accompanied initially by what seems like both green olive and soft floral notes. Now five hours later it is still noticeable, and the base remains predominantly vetiver with perhaps some cypress or cedar, and incense. The character of this vetiver scent is strongly "green", as opposed to "brown", and indeed the greenest vetiver scent I've experienced. This will be a good thing for lovers of "green" scents. Overall, an intriguing and arfully prepared vetiver. Wicozani 29 September 2005
