There is a fleeting orange whiff to start off with, but very soon a floral phase sets in; with a good bit if iris in the bunch and a hint kmif dark rose. Later this merges seamlessly with a bit of wood leads to a base dominated by a soft amber, mixed with tonka and a touch of musk. This latter stage is really the main course of the menu. It is never very sweet or cloying, and is very well blended; three hours of longevity.

After opening with a marked albeit short-lived citrus demeanor, Etro RELENT becomes essentially a floral woody musk fragrance. Through the middle stage, there is a touch of a tarrish note which seems similar to the one found in the drydown of LOLITA LEMPICKA, but for the most part the musk dominates. Eventually, in the drydown, RELENT manifests a slightly ambery quality, but it is quite subtle, so I wouldn't call this an amber or oriental perfume by any stretch of the imagination.

The florals in this composition are rather, as they say, ďabstract,Ē meaning not easy to discern much less identify. Everything is so finely blended together by the end that RELENT becomes virtually a skin scent. I would recommend this composition to people who really love musk, since that's the star of the show. There are some brief appearances of other detectable components, but they are all rather short-lived. The musk, in contrast, abides on and on, becoming lightly tinged with amber in the drydown...

I completely agree with the love's baby soft comparison. I just can't get into it, way too soft and childlike (after the dry down) it remains a simple, pretty powder scent. If you like this sort of thing you should do well with it. If you like something more complex and adult this won't be for you. It's too quiet, simple, and innocent for me. But still pretty in it's own way so I won't be negative about it-it just isn't my thing. Perfectly fine for the right person, so I'll be kind in my judgement.

Relent is a pretty fragrance with a somewhat simple, direct construction. It starts out with soft but clear citrus / lavender opening that is quite nice and it moves to a pretty powdery amber, which, with a very nice vanilla in the background, is where it stays. Itís pretty. Itís soft and enjoyable, and I donít see it as very masculine. I believe its longevity is good Ė quite typical of Etro fragrances. I feel that the scent deserves a thumbs up, but it probably shouldnít come from me because itís not my kind of scentÖ but itís very pretty.

Relent begins as Love's Baby Soft for grownups, but quickly dries down to a lovely warm amber scent that calls to mind classics like En Avion or Vol de Nuit. It's not as complex as these older fragrances, but it's a nice affordable substitute. Be patient with Relent and give it some time on your skin - it's worth the wait!
