L'Artisan Mure et Musc

Notes: wild blackberry, musk, citrus (from luckyscent.com)

Mure et Musc goes on as a juicy citrus with an herbal backbone, and some salty, soapy musk notes. I can't say I smell any blackberry to speak of, although there is a non-distinct "fruity" note which is mostly eclipsed by the soapy white musk. I must be honest, with apologies to lovers of this fragrance, this is worse than mediocre. The soapy musk takes over very quickly, and is not even as good as low-end fragrance oils I have tried. After only a few minutes, the citrus smells cheaper than household cleaning products which use natural orange oil. If it were a strong and long-lived scent, Mure et Musc would be a scrubber.

I'm a huge fan of L'Artisan, but this is one fragrance that fails completely to work with my body chemistry. I'm actually jealous of the reviewers who talk about the jammy quality of the berries here, because on me, they're completely absent. I get a slightly (unpleasantly) soapy light musk that lasts for less than an hour... and that's it. There's no dry-down, no development, no sillage at all. I'm hoping for more fruit from the Extreme version.

I'll say it again...the vagaries of body chemistry. I adore fruity frags and am likewise a fan of the right kind of musk and - sadly - on my bod this smells plastic-y and slightly rancid. Ditto for the EXTREME version...I can never predict what LAP 'fumes are going to do on me...this is one that just doesn't work.

Waaaah!

Sometimes less truly is more. Mūre et Musc is an exercise in minimalism, and to my nose quite a successful one. Berries and musk, maybe a little fresh citrus on top, and that's it. Light and unobtrusive, without being dull or familiar. On the sweet side for me, but certainly wearable, and would no doubt be lovely on a woman. Stays close to the skin and lasts moderately well -- certainly long enough for daytime wear.

Absolutely delicious! The berry is VERY subdued, not overly sweet with a warm musky note, but not too heavy on me. This is the type of scent that works well in any situation. The overall effect is a "clean" type of fragrance. One of my favorites.

EEk!!! I have been dipped in a jar of jam, then went frolicking in the woods with a musk deer, then we both got ill from the overall impression.

For a better 'jam' or 'berry' note, try Eau de Charlotte by Annick Goutal.

Whoa, whoa, whoa... there's blackberry in here? I was wondering what that slightly sweet and sour note was supposed to be. It's surprising but doesn't keep my interest. Good musk though.

Lovely blackberry and musk combination, which is so gentle and precious. I find it quite acceptable for a man to wear. Lasts all day, but sillage is quite low. I should have gone for the extreme version as it is totally enchanting.

Soap! It starts out just smelling like musk to me, but once the blackberry comes in a few minutes later, it smells exactly like the scent a hotel soap might have. I can't describe it any more succinctly than that. I agree that it's a very minimalistic fragrance, and it's very good at what it does. This is not what I'm looking for in a fragrance, though of course your mileage may vary.

Like a soft summer breeze in a sunny pine forest. Sweet, yet very clean and subtle. My signature summer fragrance!

I've just tried to sample the EDT version of this Mure et Musc but I honestly cannot smell it! I've used 1/2 the sample vial yet this juice instantly evaporates from my skin. Don't know what else to say. It is completely undetectable.

Does British Sterling come to mind?

They both share the musk base and citrus top notes.

I'm loving Mure et Musc.. it's captivating and alluring and it makes me just want to lick myself all over ;)

I agree with Randolph, for the most part. It is definitely unisex, but does have a certain sweetness that can't be overlooked. Nevertheless, the mix of the sweet with the musk gives it a very distinctive and classy edge. My only complaint is that this version is fairly light and longevity isn't so great on me (perhaps this would be alleviated by getting the Extreme version, which I plan to get when my bottle runs out). If I were new to l'artisan, this one wouldn't be in my top 3, but it is still worth a try.

This is very pleasant and very well made. It's much more potent and long lasting than I was expecting. When I first put it on, the musk dominated and I could barely smell the berries. Eventually the musk mellowed and it started to smell very sweet. It's probably too feminine for me to wear regularly, but it is nice.

oops I got this instead of meme by mistakie

it's a 20 year old bottle 4/5 full. it has sediment in it.

it's still fantastic

wish it lasted longer though although I enjoy spraying it liberally and often when wearing so...there is that...

but even better would be if that were not necessary

Very much like the Extreme version, obviously. Also obvious, it doesn't last as long. Maybe not so obvious is that the non-Extreme version is less feminine than the Extreme. Extreme is thicker, sweeter, more blackberry-ish, while non-Extreme is muskier, with this muskiness at times bordering on animalic rather than "white." I like this one better.

I've always thought of these as similar to Creed's SMW - the berry and musk thing. SMW is more complex, maybe more interesting, and little edgier due to the weird pen ink note. All seem casual to me. All are refreshing enough for warm weather, but substantial enough for the cold. I find all three upbeat. I really need to try MPG's and the Mure et Musc Cologne.

Mūre et Musc is one of those cases where the very simplicity of the construction creates something incredible. The combination of those two notes—black berry and musk (with a tiny help from some citrus and others)—is such a perfect choice for building an elegant fragrance. Fresh and clean and crisp and gentle—no wonder it has been around for twenty-eight years. I don’t think it was meant to be unisex—it is quite feminine IMO. It is a very short-lived fragrance. I am guessing the EXTREME version will win a thumbs up.

This is a captivating warm musk with hints of berry. It's one of the few musk fragrances I wear well, and there are times when I simply crave wearing it. My husband, who has a better ability to smell musk than I do, really enjoys this clean, autumn-like scent. It's an elegant take on the musks that were all the rage in the 1970s, yet it doesn't smell "retro" or "vintage." It makes me feel young and sexy, so I do love it.

To feminine for my personal wear, but this truly is one of the most gentle scents I've tried. Like a light fruity caress. Berries done in the way they should be. Haven't tried the concentrated version yet, maybe it's different enough for me to purchase.

Mure et Musc is a great summer fragrance. It’s a blend of mostly citrus and blackberry. It’s very tart, but the citrus does a good job of sweetening it up quite a bit. It doesn’t last terribly long, so I opted to get the Extreme version, which also has less citrus. Mure et Musc is a very fun fragrance. It could bring a smile to almost any face.

When I sampled this from a vial, I did not like it. Weak and unimpressive was my thought. Then I tested it by spray, and what a difference that made. On me, this is a wonderful blackberry and musk scent. I love the combination. Not overly sweet, not overly strong ... the lasting power is incredible (at least 12 hours). Must be said that I prefer lighter, softer scents, but this one is a favorite in the category.
