Versace Man starts out with a strong flower and spices not the really compliment each other. The top notes actually last a long time but they smooth out to a sweet, tobacco, spice base that is really nice. Like others have said, its synthetic, but in a good way. When I first smell this, I was like "This smells like bug spray." Ew......but.....after a few minutes, I was in love. I turned back around on the highway and went back to buy it. Couldn't resist.

I cannot even begin to describe how much I love, love, love, love this fragrance. It is by far the only scent that gathered the most amount of compliments from so many people throughout the time I used it. It is simply a masterpiece, and a true gem that resembles no other scent that I experienced.

First things first: yes, it smells synthetic from head to toe like all other Versace scents. But a very, very divine synthetic. I read somewhere that it was created for a 'temperamental man', and that is true. The guy wearing this likes to live life big: big emotions, big loves, big thoughts, big highs, crucial lows. It has a very dramatic feeling to it, very much like an opera character. Yet, there is a very tender and soulful quality to it as well. The top notes include neroli, bergamot and angelica.
Now that is very ordinary actually, especially for am Italian brand to open notes with citruses, but angelica note sets it apart from any other generic citrus openings. From the get-go, it is sizzling.
And then you move to heart notes rather quickly which are composed of saffron and cardamom. It is indeed spicy, and maybe that's what makes it really irresistible. And it is very warm, though still quite clean.

What I love about Versace scents are even though they are synthetic and sometimes sweet, they are always very well-thought out. They are like complex equations. They last very long on the skin, but leave a very masculine note at the end that lingers on you until the day is out. And mostly that final note is a rich and suave tobacco, and in the case of Versace Man, the composition is no different. The base is quite amber-y with tobacco, and casmir (an Eastern wood). I also read that labdanum, the flower is also included here, but my nose is not that well-trained.

I must say, as anything Versace, this is a very sexy mix. And a very modern blend. I know people have reservations about being too 'synthetic', but there is 'cheap synthetic', and there is 'clean and suave synthetic'. This falls into the second category. It is not as obnoxious as Dolce&Gabbana Man, or as gender-mixed as Prada Amber Pour Homme. In fact, this has much more amber than the latter one. But these three are successful synthetic scents no matter what anyone says, and Versace Man is the greatest and sexiest, at the same time most sophisticated of all three.

So many compliments, so many good memories.

Kinda like a spicy version of ck Be with a tobacco drydown. Different but this isn't masculine and more unisex.

İ hate neroli, i do not like cardamom or bergamot much. I like tobacco a lot but i don't smell any of them in Versace man. They should have blended all very hard i think. The main point is i like it. When smellt on a card İt is sweet (fruity floral) to me which i would think to be feminine but when worn by a man it is not. It is an atractive young modern humorous man fragrance.

Indeed “glamorous” as a previous reviewer has noted. And for some reason, this brings me back to the gool ol 80’s as I remember my uncle (in his mid 20’s then) in his brown rustic bomber jacket, plain white v-neck shirt w/ his Italian gold chain dangling by his chest and a pair of skinny/tight fitted jeans posting outside the house leaning by his red Porsche w/ tan leather interior just hanging out watching the sunset with a few girls (HOT girls I’ll tell ya!).. now that’s pimp! This cologne is very playboy-ish…you’ll need to be in the right mood to make pull this off! ….works for me ;-)

p.s. When the scent lingers around inside your car and mixes with the fine leather upholstery… something very intoxicating about it…and chicks dig it!!

Great fragrance! The "Man" line by Versace proved to be wonderful!
I found the base notes of "Man" quite feminine, although the tabacco leaves are very evident...

Wonderful from the very start... the pepper note is very very strong at the beggining, but soon fades out... leaving a delicious combination of tabacco and kashmir..

stays close to the skin, the angelica flowers come through most to me, but my girlfriend gets the pepper more so. very nice fragrance to wear for basically any occasion, and women absolutely love it from the reactions i've gotten so far. it's also nice that it's readily available on ebay, and hard to find in many popular stores, with most stocking the au fraiche. It's one of my favorite fragrances, most definitely a mainstay in my wardrobe.

Similar to D&G, but different enough during drydown to purchase anyway. i like this one and very surprised that I didn't buy it sooner.

Sweet, rather synthetic and thoroughly enjoyable. It is very nicely balanced with its sweetness in combination with the drier ingredients. There are some edgy notes in here—angelica, saffron, Kashmir wood, labdanum—they give a depth not often seen in many of the modern designer sweet fragrances, and they are handled subtly and with aplomb. I particularly enjoy the angelica note in the opening—angelica is a great note for adding an earthy etherealness. I like the way the tobacco is handled, too — better, I believe, than the tobacco accord in The Dreamer. Versace Man has a nice sillage that is not overwhelming in spite of its sweetness; and it hangs around on my skin for an impressive length of time. Personally, this is way too young a scent for me, but it is a highly commendable fragrance for the younger crowd. A truly, truly ugly bottle, though.

Versace man is my signature fragrance because the ladies love it, and the average joe doesn't know about this great fragrance. I get many compliments from both sexes on this fragrance, but I never tell anybody what I'm wearing. I will only share my dirty little secret with the basenotes community.

I am amazed that nobody has compared Versace Man to D&G. The top notes are slightly different as more sweet, refined and more multidimensional than D&G, but thereafter the frag is the same. And D&G outstays V M.

The bottle is toyish, with the large plastic cap more suited for an adolescent playing oversized Legos than an adult.

Overall, I really like V M, but wanted more differences between it and D and G. I just wish they were bolder in making a variant from the classic D&G that most of us adore.

I think this has to be the best cologne I've bought recently. It starts of smelling almost like fruit loops, and as time goes by it just gets better and better. This is a light fragrance, so its lasting power isn't the best.

Mysterious and overwhelming. interesting blends of bitter-sweet notes and distinguishable. at the first is a bit like Escada's Magnetism-I think saffron is make it similarity. reminds me cigarettes butts and pipe. perfect and enjoyable.

A wonderful chameleon. Starts out very floral and citrus-y on me, with the neroli predominant. Dries down to a musky, amber-y base, then the florals come back in. Lasts all day. NOT for those who don't like florals and greens (e.g., Green Irish Tweed, Baldessarini etc.).

I get some kind of chocolate covered citrus fruit out of this. Good stuff with nice lasting power.

A good scent, but the heavy amber note makes it somewhat hard to distinguish from the many other amber scents on the market. If someone sprayed it and didn’t tell me what it was, I’d be hard pressed to distinguish it from Prada or Costume National Scent Intense. That being said, if you like either of these other two and can’t afford (or don’t want to pay) the $90 for the CN or the Prada, Versace Man is a pretty good substitute. To be honest, though, I still like the original Versace L’uomo that Gianni made back in the early 1980’s.

I definitly think this is one of Versaces better products. It is definitely me. As usuall with me I think this should come in EDP.

Very interesting. I was at a department store just walking through the perfume section when this woman accosted my friend and me with a bottle of Man. She sprayed it twice on his arm and then on mine, then she said "Ooooh you have light skin, it'll be marvellous on you!" and sprayed some more.

I didnt realize at the time how nice it was (you know how it is with all those other fragrances around) or I would have asked for a sample. Only as we walked out the door and met up with our female friend who had been in the women's perfumes did I realize it. She sniffed me and said "mmm you smell like man" and she couldn't stop smelling me the whole way home.

As for staying power, I took a shower and I can still smell it as if I hadn't.

Great scent! Very different than other scents...

A sweet spicy but above all elegant composition. I particularly like the saffron note in it! However the base accords are a bit flat and that's where this perfume is lacking!!!Pity because this is very close to being perfect...

I like this fragrance the drydown is
sweet-spicy-powdery on my skin.very balanced.

Finally, after years of drek, another hit from Versace...This and Blue Jeans are my favorites! MAN starts with a light floral, tobacco-sweet topnote, almost watery due ot the neroli and bergamot, but then develops into a warm powdery drydown reminiscent of Blue Jeans...a bit sweeter and more aromatic than the current GUCCI/YSL offerings, but shares that same wood and amber base. I love it, love the bottle, love the package - hurrah, Donatella!
