I own both the Extreme and the original Eau de Santal and they smell extremely similar. The primary difference is the Extreme is much more potent. I noticed immediately after spraying Extreme on one wrist and regular Santal on the other that Extreme starts off with much more potent citrus and peppercorn top notes that really stand out more (the same notes mind you, but more clearly defined and with higher strength). The rest of the scent progression (cardamom, herbs and sandalwood) is pretty much the same all the way through the dry-down with Extreme staying stronger throughout.
The bottom line is if you love regular Eau de Santal, but want the same scent but slightly more refined and much stronger potency, then Extreme is for you. The two smell almost identical and both are easy buy recommendations, but Extreme is the winner for me. If you can find it (as Extreme has been discontinued) it is a tremendous scent earning a strong 4 to 4.5 stars out of 5.

I bought this because I could not get the origina Eau de Santal by Floris, which I love. Eau de Santal Extreme is not a patch on Santal. If seems, to me, to be a much weaker fragrance and it simply does not last.

A woody, spicy, warm and sensual fragrance. As it dries down, the rather strong opening goes into a sweeter, rich base. Very classic and elegant with a twist. It is indeed quite familiar to Gucci's Envy but I'd rate it a little more grown-up.
