I agree that this is a simple musk, but am surprised by how dismissive some of the other reviews are. I am a musk lover and really enjoy this. It is is no MKK, or Helmut Lang EDP, but it is nice, airy, yet sphisticated and distinctive musk. Perfect for occasions where you want to make a statement without screaming too loud.

Strangely, Clair de musc's openimg on on me is a peppery rose that's very similar to Caron's Parfum Sacre, except it's a much more quiet and subdued scent than PS. However, as it dries down it the pepper note subsides and a mild, slightly floral and peachy note slowly emerges to take it's place alongside the now musky rose. This is a nice, well-behaved, "lady'like" musk and that's the problem for me; it's a little too quiet to show off it's personality.

Well, it's musk -- end of story. A refined light musk that would probably layer nicely with other fragrances, but musk all the same.

I tried this in a perfume shop, and thought it was so lovely that I ordered a full bottle. When the bottle arrived, though, I was disappointed. It smells of musc - strong musc - and not really anything else. I think that when I tried it in the shop I must have been wearing something else, or tried some other sample, that added to this, making is seem so nice and interesting. Now, though, I realise that it is not as good as the tender, delicate Musc Bleu by Il Profumo, and doesn't even come close to the absolutely gorgeous Royal Muska by M Micallef (why isn't this one on Basenotes?), and I regret buying in such haste. On the plus side, you only need a small amount and it does last well.

SL and I do not seem to get along at all. This IS hairspray masquerading as EDP. I know this is marketed toward women, but I still find it offensive and can't imagine being near a women who was wearing this for any length of time.

Excuse me while I run and scrub this juice from my arm.

Very simple musk. Dry down has a few notes of powdery chocolate, but overall it's just a simple basic musk. Nice, but not for the price.

This was given to me as a freebie with a recent purchase and I spritzed with abandon, and without any preconceptions. For a musc scent it is very light and refined..not at all the skanky musc of Musc Ravageur, for example. I only got a brief whiff of the hairspray that many mention in their reviews, and after that it was all good. I'd recommend it to someone who was not a musc fanatic, as this is a sort of "musc-lite." Nice, but spendy.

ok it is pleasent enough
pretty little sassy musk
with some pretty little sassy flowers on top
I mean, livid tugereuse-iris or somethig like that, like white stained glass...transparent WEAK flower bouquet
...then the musk?
weak weak slightly sweet clean skinny musk
...a clean dead body
Yes! the hair spray! I got this one fore sure
although the frag is weak/insipid/shortlasting/no projection/blablablah, the overall efect is still quite pleasent but never worth the SL price tag

Who KNEW that Jovan re-bottled its Musk Oil and sold it for $110.00 a bottle (plus shipping)?

What a colossal disappointment this one was, though. I want to give the frag itself a thumbs up, as I've always liked Jovan Musk Oil, but I'm giving it a thumbs down to show my disappointment in having discovered a pleasant but remarkably commonplace white musk being marketed as something special and costly.

Yikes! It's a cross between foot powder and Windsong...and I do get that "hairspray" note for sure! Like spray laquer. Cheap smelling, not worth the $$$$$!

My ex boyfriend gave this to me after finding it on top of someone's locker at school. I didn't know anything about this perfume, the brand, or how expensive it is! So I can give you my unbiased opinion. (honestly if I knew it was so expensive, I probably would have tried harder to like it)
My mom didn't like it(but she hates everything) and my bf said I smelled "like bubbles" when i wore it.
This is a really nice fragrance (not amazing) It lasted a long time, which would be good if I really liked it. I felt it was hard on my nose and made it almost hard to breathe when I had it on me. I had the bottle for only two or three years but recently threw it out because it started to go bad!
I think Jovan musk and Body Fantasies Fresh White Musk are nicer! Does any one else agree?

Big disappointment. As a lover of clean musk scents like Musc Alize and Bvlgari Pour Homme, I was anxious to try this one. It's thinner than most Lutens, but comes off as smelling like hairspray and ending up being a nice musk scent. The huge price tag though makes this a big let down. Not worth it at all.

A disappointment. Run of the mill white musk scent with very little sillage or longevity.

Clair de Musc began for me with what I call the dreaded 'hairspray note' found in so many musk perfumes I have tried. It was not remarkable or what I expected. But I decided to let it linger and see what happened. As time passed it became softer, a bit more rounded. Later still the floral notes became more pronounced. Finally I was left with a wisp, a faint trace of the cleanest, sweetest scent. Very nice.
