Reviews of Riviera Palace

Riviera Palace opens with a classic, solid, aldehydic floral accord (quite on the white side, with a rose heart), earthy and pollen nuances, camphor notes of benzoin on a soft base, slightly creamy and fluffy, probably comprising sandal and ylang, and a "fresh" breeze with a subtle zesty citrus head note blended with an aromatic, radiant, wet green accord. Simple, demodé, nostalgic, delivering that minimal linearity of a number of Artisan's, here expressed in a sort of light, sheer transparency, bright and refreshing - almost "iodine", azure and breezy, a feeling which reminded me Eau de Givenchy a bit (for the same "fresh" feel on a floral chypre texture). Pale, clean, elegant, luminous and really discreet, with a (predictably) quite short persistence.

The name is misleading; this hardly make me think of a palace, nor does it remind me of the Riviera. It makes me think of some quaint, and very prim, ladies dressing-room from another time; all white flowers, with a bit of heaviness, and the requisite powdery finish. For a much nicer white flower composition, without the dressing-room allusions, No. 22 Chanel is so much of a superior scent. It makes one feel happy that RP is now only a memory.
