A stunning citrus cologne opening, done very well without abrasiveness, a very wearable fresh-chypre scent soon emerges and I kept sniffing myself where I'd sprayed the fragrance, nodding appreciatively and wanting to find just something stunningly unique in there to tip the balance over from "very nice" to "it's worth this much money". Eau de New York is really lovely and I'd wear it, but perhaps not fall-in-love stunning for this price. If I was wealthy and money was no object, I would have bought a bottle with no questions asked. Perhaps that's the point? EDITED 2009: I recently received a bottle of this as a gift. My chief gripe was that I couldn't justify paying the price for "nice". Now I don't have to... therefore changed from neutral to thumbs up. 06 August 2009

The dominant notes I get are a lemon and lime accord and some nice woods. It is cool and refreshing. The only complaint I have is that those characteristics don't make it stand out from most of the others in the same genre. I admit, I’ve given thumbs-up to less pleasing fragrances just because they take artistic risks. This one, no. Very safe. So, I give it a qualified thumbs-up and recommend it to lovers of citrus. 25 February 2009

This is a great fragrance - the reviews below describe it well. My only complaint is that it is not really unisex, or at least it's on the most feminine end of the unisex spectrum. Unlike other B9 unisex offerings, like Wall Street, there isn't much that can salvage this for a man who wants to smell masculine. 17 June 2008

While I haven't completely changed my mind about this scent, I must give it more credit than I did in my previous review. It has more going for it than I originally thought. While I initially only detected bergamot, I've come to the realization that this has a pleasant lemon grass note along the same lines as Eau Sauvage. While I still wouldn't drop the cash to buy this scent, I would definitely wear it in the spring and summer months if it were cheaper. 10 April 2008

I am starting to get the feeling that all Bond No 9 fragrances are reincarnations of used-to-be-in-style with a slightly modern twist. And by modern twist I mean a lemony/citrus opening. This particular fragrance goes back about 25 years. It opens very dry and dark green, with a citrus sweetness; it conjures images of a tweedy flannel fabric. Then the green comes alive, still dark, until it transitions into a metallic green, the citrus still lurking in the shadows (but much brighter at the point of contact with the skin). Nicely done. One of the better unisex frags on the market. 12 December 2007

Gorgeous, light and airy. Easily unisex, too (as it was meant to be). Easily one of Bond's best. 16 October 2007

Bond No. 9’s Eau de New York does not suggest New York City to me. But it is a wonderful fragrance with a citrus-floral opening. I detect the bergamot, petitgrain, neroli and especially the jasmine. Then there is the gradual emergence of oakmoss-vetiver in the base. Definitely unisex, clean and crisp. If you go to the Bond No. 9 website like I did today to try to learn more about Eau de New York, you will go through 3 or 4 pretty web pages only to find the following terse statement – NOTES: neroli, white lily, vetiver. I think that is a bit of an oversimplification to say the least. I forgive them (this time) and give it a hearty thumbs up! 11 May 2007

Absolute favorite of mine. Unique and fresh. Total smell of quality oils as oes most Creed fragrances but has such a contemporary vibe that creed lacks -probably only negative about Creed I can think of..... At first I did not understand what made this smell the scent of the city (I am a resident New Yorker) but as i wear this scent - albiet expensive and longevity is weak - it makes me smile with every use and evokes happiness and gives me a sudden burst of energy.... And isn't that what this great city does for true NYers?! 13 February 2007

Bergamot and Jasmine - not really unique but pleasant to smell! I like the musk dry down. Yes, it is expensive but it is well-blended and more refined than a lot of other similiar scents. 25 January 2007

I find the fast-paced stimulation of large cities to be comforting. I know that's unusual. Atmospheres typically considered to be "comforting" give me anxiety attacks. I had one sitting on a beach on Maui, staring at the ocean... After that trip, when my plane landed at LAX, I felt like kissing the asphalt in the gritty parking lot. My last trip was more my speed (pun intended). I visited the city that's been my lifelong favorite - New York. I was inspired to give Eau de New York another try, and I'm glad I did. Eau de New York doesn't smell like New York. It smells citrusy, clean, and bright; all notes which I find to be energizing and stimulating. So, for me, Eau de New York is a comforting fragrance, even though the notes do not connote a specific olfactory memory. And I love that fabulous bottle. 19 January 2007

I am suprised by the negative and neutral ratings. This is a favorite of mine, so fresh. I am an orange blossom, petit grain and neroli devotee, so perhaps that is why it is on my top list. Not too sweet like some petitgrain scents can be, this is clean with a interesting, hard to pin down drydown fragrance. 21 May 2006
