Let me be succinct: It is good, but it is hardly 'very irresistible'. My sister loves this scent on men, and that's why I gave it a try. It is nice, rather light, but it is very bland to my taste. I would not say this is bad: it is more like 'sure, why not...' type of scent. It is like that light cream next to a big beautiful chocolate cake; the cream does not necessarily need to be there, but its presence does not annoy you per se. I would recommend this for summer maybe, but it is in no way an Earth-shattering type of cologne. The bottle is chic, yet the spray mechanism has that 'about-to-break any second' type of sensitivity as it is mostly the case with any cap-less one-piece unconventional spray designs. The notes are not worthy of much discussion. 22 August 2008

A piney amber that kinda reminded me of a Polo scent. I liked it at first but it only lasted an hour on me. Everything was gone by the time I reached my destination driving to a friend's house. I'd have to give it a thumbs down for huge a disappointment. 27 July 2008

I really love this one. It smells something like citrus with hazelnuts and a bit of coffee. It lasts a long time. On my skin, I could still smell it a bit after 14 hours. It is very pleasant and I find it very light to wear. It is not cloying. This is also a gourmand scent, and not overly masculine. I think it could be labeled as Unisex. 15 July 2008

When I first put it on, all I can smell is a sort of pine scent mixed with chocolate. This is what attracted me to this fragrance from the start because I haven't really encountered anything with this sort of combination in the top notes. This melts away to a more woodsy middle and base notes that last on me all day. My wife didn't like it at first because I put too much on and she said it smelled a little too much like bug repellent. But once I toned it down a bit, it has become more tolerable to her. This is one of my go-tos for most occasions. I've been asked what it is on several occasions by some female friends of mine because they were intrigued by the combination of scents in the fragrance. Some have said that instead of this, you should use GIT. I disagree in that GIT and VI are two different animals and other than the green notes; they have totally different dry downs. But I must say, this is a fragrance that you should try sparingly and definitely check to see how it works with your skin type before committing to it. 04 June 2008

I have it and I absolutely love it. And judging by the responses I've gotten ("I must take you home with me"! and "WHAT are you wearing?") and the numbers I've obtained, I think it's safe to say Givenchy got this one right. This one lingered on me for a while (not that I minded) and it has a pleasant, sweet smell to it. It's easy to go overboard with this one. It sort of has a chocolate smell to it, too. A little wood scent as well. I wish I could use it in a Glade Plug-in lol I like the bottle, too. The black and green looks cool and it's simple to use (no caps to lose). 09 May 2008

This is a very nice fragrance smells really bad on paper in my opinion as does the initial blast but after a few minutes it's very nice. A definite compliment getter last a minimum 6 hrs on my skin so a thumbs up. 06 May 2008

It's a nice gourmand scent, but it really isn't too different from all the rest aside from the mint and grapefruit peel in the topnotes. I think the green notes in the beginning clash with the sweetness, but they fade during the drydown so it's not too much of a problem for me. A lot of people are impressed with the bottle but personally I think it's a rip off of Azzaro Visit. I considered buying this when it first came out, but then I thought that it would just be a duplicate purchase of Rochas Man. They are both very similar in the drydown IMO. But you if you don't own a gourmand scent and you're looking for a versatile chocolate fragrance, this would be a good choice. 13 April 2008

A quick blast of grapefruit and mint very quickly joined by hazelnut and chocolate. It’s nice — the mint is a bit much at first but doesn’t stay in control for very long. The hazelnut is not especially stand-outish and the mocha has a rich chocolaty smell to my nose. I think the sesame seed adds a bit of smokiness to the middle accord. All of these notes add up to a very attractive and well-designed presentation. The top and middle accords occur almost concurrently. I like Very Irresistible for Men—it’s more interesting than all too many of the recent fragrances; it has captivating accords — especially the chocolate one — and it has good longevity and sillage. I, too, find it a bit similar to but not as good as L’Instant. Although I don’t find it sensual and mysterious, as it is advertised, Very Irresistible is a very good scent. It calls for the thumbs up. 23 October 2007

Honestly...this smells like everything else out there released in that last 2 or 3 years... Smells very generic, run-of-the-mill, and like it has had a load of cut and spent gardenia blooms dumped in it... Not impressing as a contemporary offering at all... But if you're perfectly content with smelling generic, sweet and like a "skanky" teenaged-girl, then go ahead, be my guest, and waste your money on this cheap-smelling crap! 30 June 2007

If this works for your skin... It is not bad. It immediately reminded me of Thiery mugler's A*Men or Angel depending on what continent you are on. The difference is, this is a bit weaker and less chocolatey. A*Men is part of my collection but my wife always mistakes it for hers because the similarity is intense. With Very irresitable, you get a more masculine scent, one which I would have preferred over A*Men, but VI doesn't last quite as long. Quite a scrumptuos men's scent that I think is a bit more stable than Pi by the same frag house. Not bad. 29 June 2007

Opens with every single note clearly definted, which is strange because mint and sesame shouldn't be in the same latte as mocha and musk. The second stage is just like deodorant soap, clean, bright and very fake, but this passes quickly and ends in a drydown of a strangely peaceful marraige of grapefruit, mocha and mint. I really can't tell why this even works, but on me it does and I love it. 22 June 2007

This fragrance is about chemistry. On paper I liked it. Not loved, but liked it. So I decided to buy a bottle and well, I usually go for softer scents, this initially packs a hit, but dryed down on me to like, a wood chip. I took it back the next day for a refund. 04 May 2007

this is my favourite fragrance! and it lasts 12 hours on my skin! not just a minute as germanomio said... maybe he got a fake, not the original. this perfume is amazing. i luv it and girls do that too. 27 April 2007

an interesting mix...during one minute ! on can smell mint and grapefruit first, second mocha and then hazelnut but it evolves too quickly to a boring cheap drydown, similar to any "male" perfume released now the intention of creating something original was maybe there but it was not achieved 19 March 2007

Points for originality, but not for composition. I don't generally like the scent of mint, but it's particularly problematic here because of how it conflicts with the hazelnut. It leaves the whole thing smelling like an inferior, funky version of Tommy Bahama, or maybe Le Male. The longevity is good. 22 January 2007

Unfortunately, on me the fragrance was aromatic (fresh) then oriental. No woody, coffee, chocolate, sweet or unusual scents at all. Did have the oriental/aromatic mixture which was invigorating and pleasant, but not sure if worth the high price considering the stay was medium/low. Sorry, very plain on my skin, and I would not buy based on price. 4-5/10 21 January 2007

First impressions of this fragrance are green notes and a touch of fresh acid apple. Few minutes after pouring you can perceive a mild choco/milk sensation with tons of mint. So this goes to After Eight popular chocolates lovers.. Very Irresistible is done for you! Someone told me not to pour generous amounts on me because it´s a strong one parfum, but after giving some walks I truly believe this vary from skin to skin. Overall, you have the impression of a sunny Spring day going for mountains and cascades, with chocolate, mints, and hazelnuts in your plastic rucksack to spend the day... Beautiful fragrance! Maybe a unisex target if you desire. Applause too for the package and bottle designer. Cold sober but ellegant. 19 December 2006

This is the first and last Givenchy fragrance I am going to try. It is way too minty and resembles 'After Eight' mints, if you've tried them you'll know what I mean. Overall a very sickly product that smells like it should have been a confectionary product. 02 December 2006

I tried this 3 times and I love it! Doesn't smell so swell on paper cards but it smells really good on my skin. I smell greenapple in the top notes but it isnt' there. I can smell the mocha/chocolate but not the mint. Overall a great one and I'm thinking of purchasing it. 13 November 2006

Coffee, nutts and a bit of chocolate: These make Very Irresistible!. Sourness in the opening remind Dunhill's Desire--However the heart is covered by nutty/chocolaty notes - Perhaps it seems at the first varnish or druggy. VI is at present in my wishlist but obviously is not in my favorites forever--Some kinds of the powerful smells like: A*Men, L'Instant, Rochas Man or even Very Irresistible after sometime become cloying. Many people are lover or hater of these. Virile, well balanced and good lasting power. Best fragrance by Givenchy. 22 October 2006

RCavs got it right -- this one's a kissing cousin of Guerlain's (sorry, but have to say it) superior L'instant Pour Homme. Neither VI nor L'instant EDT can hold a candle to the incomparable L'instant Eau Extreme, though. Like VI? Like L'instant? Do yourself a favor and -- kudos to both scents aside -- seek out the Eau Extreme version of L'instant instead. You'll have spent your moolah far more wisely. 13 October 2006

This is the first marketed men's fragrance from the house of Givenchy since the unharmonious discord of their wildly successful pre-Millennial venture, ? (Pi): a fragrance which at the time I found to be an atrocious addition to the Givenchy brand and which I still do. Thankfully, this new creation (Very Irrésistible for Men) which was nine years in the making has already earned a spot amongst the canon of great gourmands for men among the cognoscenti and become a veritable triumph for the Givenchy brand after years of offering nothing more than seasonal reformulations of their classic, Insensé. Unlike it's predecessor, Very Irrésistible for Men comes from the post-McQueen era at the house of Givenchy, not that Alexander McQueen had very much say in perfume development during his tenure as creative director of fashion to begin with, but his influence over Pi was evident in the flaçon design and creative approach utilised in the commercial marketing of the fragance (Remember Rouge Miroir?, Pi's campaign was identical) which of course was itself inspired by the 1998 Darren Aronofsky film of the same name. Very Irrésistible for Men is a direct reflection of the latest direction that the house has taken since introducing a fully-developed menswear brand to it's womens RTW and Haute Couture houses, now headed by the British sartorialist Oswald Boateng and Italian designer Riccardo Tisci respectively. It also offers the brand's most striking flaçon since 1986's Xeryus and if we look closer, the most complex formulation since that fragrance, too (Although I loved 1995's Xeryus Rouge very much). It is a rich and elegant gourmand with a subtlety not often seen at Givenchy. It's the collection of a modern Parisien's trials and tribulations at the end of his day, a victorious accumulation of smells of everyday life. A modern bespoke man that grew up in the very "Xeryus" anées quatre-vingts who survived the very minimal monochrome of the 1990's to discover this creative manifestation of the hi fidelity WIFI cybercafés and boutique bistros of post-Millennial Paris, it's 1959's Monsieur de Givenchy leaving Le Café Flore on taxi and arriving at the Colette Water Bar for a healthy dose of Voss. It's Givenchy in 2005. PRO: Argentine designer Pablo Reinoso's smoked-glass bottle CON: The chemical variation between different persons 04 October 2006

It is absolutely awesome. It is just me:). It matches perfectly with my skin, it is very rare(especially in Romania where everyone wants Fahrenheit or Armani),and also natural. Both energising and relaxing, with an aura of seduction. If you want to be unique, try it 07 September 2006

Apprealing if a desert- chocolates or icecream for instance- smelled like this, but for a perfume, especilly a male one, inspite of todat's interest for increasingly sweet, unisex, light and experimental scents, it is far to edible. More precisely, after the vapid first impressions of floral and fruity tones are gone, the on;ly impression that remains is of hazelnut spread or chocolate filled with hazelnut spread, maybe a bit of cinammon flavoured coffee or milk-shake. Would work much better in a kitchen, a pastry or sweets-shop. Very irresistible- maybe as an edible, not olfactory flavour. Anything else than the contemporay masculinity, both rugged and sedutive it promotes, even if not a bad or shallow scent, just a hint too weird, daring, off-beat and unmanly. 31 August 2006

I think Col is right: very Irrésistible is "very" similar to L'Instant!! I can smell the same mint notes and almost the same drydown... However, L'Instant mint note stays stronger in the drydown while in VI It's hidden in the chocolate/cofee/wood notes. I'd say VI is darker. L'Instant has a caramely note that gives it a sweeter feeling. Both are equally exquisite, but I prefer L'Instant. 18 May 2006

Oh boy "Vench" why are you hurting me so? Maybe it's skin chemistry, but to me this comes off as nothing more than rotting orange peels, stale coffee with a hint of mint.. Great bottle, very creative frag direction for Givenchy, but very pooly executed, and blended for that matter. Too many notes clash and fight each other, rather than complimenting each other's individual strengths. Unfortunately the sillage and longevity are very good. Much better chocolate/coffee note scents on the market. IMHO 08 May 2006

Innovative and different from a lot of what's out there but something in this fragrance is cloying and it bothers me. Still, I congratulate Givenchy, with whom I was never able to make peace completely. I think it's the combination of the mint, the mocha, and the roasted hazlenut accord. Years ago, I was more attracted to coffee/mocha notes. It was so revolutionary. I'm not so sure anymore. This has kept me away from other gourmands too. They remind me of scratch-and-sniff children's books. 28 February 2006

This fragrance stood out on paper immediately but came alive on the skin. Looking for something unaquatic, this was completely different and I loved how the grapefruit blended into the edible mocha and sesame seed. I've been wearing this for a couple months and the only problem I notice are the woody basenotes...I wish they had a greater staying power and were a bit more pungent. All in all, a great addition to the Givenchy line. 25 February 2006

It's too bad that the basenotes don't appear sooner, because they are incredible in my opinion. I just can't stand the harsh (actually pungent) top and middle notes. 14 January 2006

I think this is a pretty solid scent. it doesn't smell alchohol-ish off the start and turns into a fairly sweet smell. One of my personal favourites, and the girlfriend thinks its alright. Not to mention the bottle is pretty sweet =) 11 January 2006

i think what it attracts me at first sight was the bottle.. hardly ever seen a beautiful bottle like this one for men.. black cap, the top bottle (glass) looks black and blends down to the botton to green.. anyways, yes i agree with timothy, not to try this on paper, it smells great on skin. top note with a grapefruite citrus (smells great) with a little aroma-like scent. when the top note dissappears, the aroma... it's just such a sexy scent for men to be a men. p.s. for gentlemen ONLY! :) 22 December 2005

Zero stars for creativity, zero for saying that it has hazelnuts and not feature them more prominently and 1 star for a nicer bottle design. The best thing about this one is that Liv is on the ad!.Sorry but not the best Givenchy -by far. 15 December 2005

Man this is some awesome stuff... A contrast on sharp and mellow. I love the hazelnut and mocha, that is what makes this fragrance the BOMB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 30 November 2005

Let me start with what's not impressive: it's the bottle. I find it pretentious, even if it is eye catching. The fragrance itself is refreshingly original. The opening sharp and pungent grapefruit note is SO unlike the run-of-the-mill citrusy opening. Mint? I'm not sure about that. Maybe I need to smell it some more. But I am generally not very good at detecting mint in fragrances (save for Black by Kenneth Cole). Moccha is there alright. Now I have no idea what hazelnut wood smells like, but I would say that there is a complex composition of aromatic woods and sandalwood is not among them. Which is just as well - because it is present all too often these days. Overall, big thumbs up Givenchy on this original, stand-out creation. And of course, since Liv Tyler is on the ads, it gets extra two stars from me. (Andrius Uzkalnis) 23 November 2005

This is definitely a rather unique scent. At first somewhat harsh and strong grapefruit scent, then as it dries down... Vanilla-hazelnut latte that lasts and lasts. There's no other way to describe it, really. It's a very "tasty" scent that just WORKS! Girls love it. When on the train, it's so different from the "normal" smells of Cool Water, Boss Blue, Clinique's Happy and Aqua Di Gio that it really attracts the right sort of attention. :) 23 November 2005

Good call by saying it is one part B*Men! Not an original scent but one that is very pleasing. Reminds me of DKNY BE Delicious men because of the subtle grapefruit and hazelnut. Long lasting which is nice considering Givenchy Blue Label doesn't last ten minutes on my skin. 19 November 2005

Very nice and long lasting fragrance that ends with a very aromatic wood note (must be the hazelnut). Strange... I never feel the grapefruit and minty note, and the mocha smelled more like chocolate, but both top and woody notes gave a very refreshing/relaxing sensation. 15 November 2005

Never, ever, try this fragrance on paper. It smells simply horrible on paper. But it's absolutely amazing on skin. The opening is a bit sharp and pungent thanks to the strong grapefruit note. Although it's listed on the bottle, I can't detect the mint leaf note. The drydown is fantastic. VI has an unusual middle note composed of sesame and mocha (coffee). It smells a little like the sesame-oil I sometimes use for asian dishes and the coffee note reminds me of A*Men or Rochas Man. But the fragrance is no cheap A*Men rip-off or another variation of the gourmand theme. It has some of the qualities of a gourmand scent (edible notes like sesame and mocha but it's too green and woody to be a typical gourmand. After about an hour, you can smell the basenotes. Definitely sweet but pleasant with a subtle woody touch. I have no idea what hazlenut wood smells like, but I don't think that there's a wood that smells like the drydown of VI. Not very natural but very good though. The staying power is above average, good enough to last for six and more hours. The bottle looks stylish and contemporary, the color of the bottle fades from green to black and the spray mechanism works good and looks great. All in all a great, unusual scent. Very original, which is quite rare these days (at least when you look at recent "mainstream" scents). 02 October 2005

It would have just been an undifferenciated addendum to my collection, an blend of Creeds Vetiver and Penhaligon's Fern scent, if this fragrance had not this very seductive woody note in it, given by sesame and hazel wood. Oily, nutty, like something you buy at a candy shop, eat it up in a few minutes and cannot even remember its name. I really love it, but it turns out to become my bad hair day scent. 22 September 2005

First of all they have really made a superb job with packaging and bottle, very attractive. It starts out with some very fresh notes contrasted by heavy hazelnut coffee which creates a very weird first impression, but I like it. After a while, and I'm very surprised no one else on the boards has experienced the same, it becomes extremely reminiscent of Polo Sport! I swear, after 1-2 hours they're very hard to tell apart on my skin. This fact probably will keep me from investing in this Givenchy. 22 September 2005

One part B*Men, one part Brit for men. This is a nice fragrance, but not terribly original. I was hoping for a little more. It’s definitely not a bad fragrance; on the contrary, it’s much nicer than most releases. I don’t think I will buy a bottle, but it was worth testing. 22 September 2005

Givenchy pour Homme and Blue Label are great creations, and I have to say that I expected more. Very Irresistible for Men is too simmilar to Xeryus Rouge, actaully, it's like combination of XR and Allure. 14 August 2005

At first spray I thought EEEEEEEEEEEK! After around 30 secs it turned inot some kind of B*Men variation, sharp, too sharp. The after about 20mins its a L'Instant Pour Homme clone! REALLY! Not 100% sure about this one yet, so far I feel its like an unrefined rather vulgar L'Instant PH. 09 August 2005

Tried this fragrance on the first day of its release. I was very disappointed! I like most Givenchy fragrances, therefore i was very eager to try this and hoped to get a bottle. When i tried it, something similar came to mind right away, it smelled so much like Allure and Lalique Le Faune, it also smells like Xeryous Rouge and Hanae Mori, then it smells like a combination of all the above. It was horribly unoriginal. I think that Allure is better. This was a total let down for me. Nontheless it is still an ok scent. Definitely try before buy! 03 August 2005

I have been wearing this scent for several days now. It is not a high-end niche fragrance but more a well-thought out, 'irresistible' (no puns) and very pleasant fragrance. The intial top notes are mint, chocolate, perhaps some leather, too? It is fairly long lasting. I applied the fragrance after a birthday morning bath, with some un-scented body lotion before hand and it lasted most of the day. I'd recommend this if not only for the great in-store advertising featuring that elf-vixen, Liv Tyler. She is lovely! 02 August 2005
