Picture your mother's make-up bag, cocoa powder and leather and there you have it: Dior Homme. When I first tried it, I wasn't enthused. So I tried it again, and came to the conclusion that I actually liked it. When I tried it again after that, I realized that yes, this is a fantastic fragrance, but it's not as groundbreaking as it is often made out to be. Although Dior Homme doesn't necessarily smell feminine, this kind of thing has been done before in countless feminine fragrances over the past few decades. The real surprise to me is that it took so long for someone like Olivier Polge to capitalize on this style of fragrance and market it to men in a modern-smelling fragrance.

While I enjoy Dior Homme, I find it a bit too sweet and powdery to wear. I much prefer Kenzo Power, which is less gourmand but just as floral and powdery, making it more wearable (Kenzo Power was also created by Olivier Polge).

I smelt this today at the Dior counter and it is a first rate men's iris/floral scent. I would say this is unisex. Guys, you are very lucky ,a superb men's fragrance. I would wear this myself !

Dior Homme was quite a disappointment for me. It was built up as being a floral nearly feminine fragrance with powder and iris, but unfortunately to my nose, all it had was a violent floral and sage opening that smelled like a perfumed bubble gum. There are many better choices and I would not recommend this one. What has happened to Dior?

Smooth powdery iris with ambery sweetness, boasting respectable sillage and longevity. I find DIOR HOMME rather similar in structure to Lanvin's Arpège pour homme (both launched in 2005) but not nearly not as intimate. Where the latter is peppery and vibrant, Dior Homme's aura is quieter, the iris a little more prominent. I don't get the lipstick scent of a woman's purse nor the impression of leather either. Perhaps we aren't supposed to. But as a fan of powdery florals this could have earned a place in my wardrobe. Too bad Arpège pH got there first.

After the initial smooth opening glow this scent literally engulfs the wearer just like a shield. the magic of this gem is in the way it works it sillage. Exceptional lastin power and a scent wth lot of poise, style, comfort, class, warmth, glow and luxury re-defined...doesnt this scent also have one of the "best" notes of leather? i mean to call/Label it a Iris based scents is cruel. whenever i wear this scent, i feel like i'm wearing a top end shiny leather product straight out of it's shelf...and the sillage..oh-so powdery and silky smooth like fur....the scent is ofcourse as we all know, Dior Homme....all the references to inside of a ldies pruse, lipstick note etc. is to an extent true and yet..thsi manages to be one of the best scents out there. for this one, i's suggest, please ignore the reviews and get yourself this scent. it's a masterpiece.

One of the best men's scents in recent years. Although it does initially bring to mind lipstick and cold cream, I can't see this really working on most women, so it's hard to say this is too feminine. After awhile, the lipstick note sits down and a clean machine note steps up, like a well-oiled clock, which may be why some call this synthetic-smelling. For me, it works here. Longevity is excellent and the smell so unique for a masculine that every knee must bow and every tongue must confess: this is good stuff.

Who says that men could not project enough masculinity by wearing something that is both flowery and powdery at the same time? This new classic from Dior proves that with perfect blending and skillful perfumery, there are no boundaries in creating masculine frag from traditionally feminine accord.Iris flower dominates this fragrance from the start while leathery accord creates the perfect masculine ambience to counterpart the sweetness of vanilla and lavender in the drydown. The spices in this blend provides the slightly bitter but soft edges that cleverly rounds up this perfume, making the masculinity more pronounced but not overly so. I'm not going so far as to call this frag groundbreaking but in an era where most male perfumes are dominated by grapefruits and aquatic accords, this frag clearly stands out. Plus, the longevity is superb in this one, so you get your money's worth. What can I say, just go and buy this one already.

A marvellous powdery iris note set on a base of vetiver, wood and tonka bean. Yes it could be classifed as a "feminine" fragrance, but in a world of incredibly banal marine/citrus concotions I can only commend Dior for releasing such a bold concoction. A sophisticated, subtle and refined fragrance - leagues ahead of many other male frangrances released in the past 5 years in terms of its complexity and originality.

Hm . . .too powdery and sweet though I'm unsure whether the aforementioned "lipstick" or "make-up bag" is the better adjective. Some women will undoubtedly find this romantic on a man they love, though I suspect most would probably enjoy it more on themselves. Class act if you like Iris.
I think this should have been a signature scent for Lauren Bacall back in the 40's

Uhm, wow, wat an insipid little flower. Tried this on skin (I'm a girl) because it sounded so great. Now, ok, just did two little spritzes on my hand... and poof, where'd it go!? Couldn't stand up to the tiny bit of L'Instant pour Homme I had on my other hand. This can't be too distinctive, or I'd have smelled something. I just got some soft, genderless... vague niceness. Eh.

WOW this is getting quite a beating here! As a longtime Dior fan I had to give this one a try. While I do agree this is a slightly feminine fragrance, I suppose I need to go out and smell a few lipstick tubes, because I just don't get that association. Delightfully unisex, heady, and floral, but I only wear this at night.

This is a rather distinctive scent, and is a fragrance that would be particularly nice in cooler weather. I consider this a unisex scent, and actually know more women who wear it than men. It has good staying power, and seems somewhat mature. It's not one of those weak, squeaky-clean scents, but instead, has a certain character and boldness. Yes, it does seem a bit sweet, but in my opinion, not overly so. It's bold and sweet without being annoyingly so.

Im a perfume enthusiast and read basenotes lot but so far many of the fragrances that get exciting and emotional reviews here, end up being unwearable to me...
Dior Homme was a very nice surprise , i tried it expecting something unwearable , to feminine and to strange , but no ... maybe a litle strange and i even undersand the feminine views of this fragrance .
But overall i find DH a very classy and different man fragrance , and in this last 2 months i has kept on growing on me ,makes me feel good , and has become that special fragrance i want to wear every single day , it has become the fragrance that i would take on a travel , to work , to a night out...
Maybe im overrating dior home , but to me this is the most complete fragrance on my wardrobe .

some comments i got from it:
- smells like something a 40yo on a suit would where (im 30's , and dont wear suits)
- reminds me of rochas man (i agree the opening is as sweet as Rochas man , but after a couple of uses DH has got personalty of its own )
- you smell good ( i agree again )

Yes, this one definitely smells like lipstick or a make-up bag…

Yes, based on the above association, it does smells very feminine…

Yes, the bottle is pretty cool…

Yes, Christian Dior was one of my favourite fragrance houses too…

No, I’m not too fond of this one either…

Synthetic yet appealing. A good floral-based scent that is contemporary and warm. I agree that this is overrated and does not stand out. Off-loaded not so long after acquiring because it does get boring.

This fragrance definitely has to be tried on the skin. When sprayed on a testing strip I did detect what other basenoters have described as a lipstick smell, however, I didn't find this particularly unpleasant! When applied to the skin the 'lipstick' aspect is merely fleeting and this fragrance settles down beautifuly with the cacao adding a gourmand element. This is a top fragrance which I love to wear.

Dior Homme Is My Absolute Favorite Fragrance That I Own In My Wardrobe. I Get More Compliments When I Wear This Than Half Of What's In My Wardrobe. Soft Floral, Great Bottle, Great Silage On My Body! Arguably The Best In My Wardrobe!!! This Is The First Cologne That I Could Wear For The Rest Of My Life Everyday! 1 Million Stars! Thank You Christian Dior!!!

I just bought a bottle on Saturday and have been wearing it and I really like it. I especially appreciate the hint of muted sweetness. There is a powdery aspect that gets better as it dries down throughout the day. My wife actually loves it which is another bonus. There is a hint of chocolate at first application. A similar scent is YSL Homme (IMO). I think I might have found a signature scent.

Too leathery-powdery for me. It should have had a hint of smoothness in it. I know it's good, its original- if you like Iris blossom and leather.

WOW!

What a passionated fragrance!
The drydown is magic,
the topnote is as described quite feminine,
but as Chandler Burr so kindly speaks,
dont let the smell dissaprove you, until
you have smelled the basenotes!
The lipstick is gone after 20 minutes or so.
That alone is a sign of confidence of with Dior Homme.

A gentleman in disquise, and still very handy to have
after workout, training swimming etc.
And can still be sitted with a suit.
Dior Homme has a pretty dollartag but is worthy of a 2 thumbs up!

It smells like chocolate chip cookie dough, sugar and lipstick. It smells so sweet it actually makes my teeth hurt.

Also, it has the silage, power and longevity of skunk musk. I have actually smelled this scent from 50 feet away on a very windy day.

Trying this on was the single worst scent experience I have ever had and I do not understand why people like a scent like this which I can only easily describe as absurdly offensive.

I'm new to the world of olfactory wonder, so I'll leave the discussion of "notes" to others. I will say two things though:

1) It is the only perfume in my possession so far (with the possible exception of Bulgari Soir) that has enticed /intrigued me enough to do a scent test. For the others, I basically just spray on and get on with my daily life. Dior Homme, though, challenges me to slow down and try to unpack all its complexity (well, it smells complex to me anyway). It is unapologetically feminine initially, but there is also something comfortably masculine just sitting there among all the flowers, self-assured and unwavering.

2) I definitely get the lipstick reference, and that scent can dominate, but only if I specifically look for it. If I just whiff my wrist not expecting to smell lipstick, I can easily detect what others have described as off-white suede, slightly smoky scent. And yes, the overall sense created by this fragrance is inexplicably comforting, calming, warm, and addictive.

I got the Dior Homme intending it to be something a bit more formal / grown-up than the usual fruity / breezy ones that the salesladies invariably pitch to me. Sitting here in my pajama doing my scent test, I feel self-consciously "under-dressed" even though there's no one else around. As others have said, this definitely would not go with t-shirt and jeans or noisy, crowded clubs. Instead, I'm saving this for one of those special, slightly chilly, "sweater" nights out on the town, during which friends and beloved ones gather around dinner and, together, chase the cold night away.

An example of modern day creative poverty from Christian Dior. Lacking in originality, it aspires only to co-exist with its host, never once daring to harmonize or become engaging in anyway. From its application to expiry, I found this to be meek and timorous in a way that baffled and irritated me. Too bland to even warrant a thumbs down.

Great material, great bottle, but the iris note is a little overwhelming in my opinion. I prefer the 'Cologne" version which is more citrus and the iris is more subdued.

So it smells like lipstick?
Yes it does, even in the drydown.
Is it a problem for me?
No, really!
It feels like a new version of "Le Mâle" for me.
Sillage is not too subtle, not too strong, just perfect!
Longevity is very good for me.
And look at this beautiful bottle!
Thumbs up!

Nothing interesting or spectacular to say here. Overrated.

Check the Dow Jones and Nasdaq. We are in very hard economic days. Protect your money and dont spend in products who dont deserve your atention.

Longevity, average.....Sillage, average. I repeat, overrated.

I will give a Neutral because I m with good mood. Try Dior Homme Sport.

It is a very lovely bottle and reminds me of a salt or pepper shaker and feels very nice to hold , that is my good news . I found the spray didnt work very well came out as a squirt and not a spray leaving a puddle on my forearm. When I sprayed onto the card I could only smell the card ! I could hardly smell anything else and then I went to another shop and tried the frag again and for me wasnt very good

Dior Homme certainly has enough ratings that adding my 2 cents will not sway anyone. But to any woman who wonders if this is really wearable for her, YES YES YES!

The beginning is just OK. And then slowly here it comes and bam! -- there it is but it never goes beyond a loud whisper. It's soft, gentle. And yet it's what I think of as a deep fragrance. My nose has no idea what the individual notes are and I don't really care to know. It's the overall affect that interests me the most and I can't seem to get enough of this one.

This is the only men's fragrance (and I've tried a bunch) I enjoyed enough to purchase. And then I went for the 3.4 oz size since I can't seem to get enough.

Great long lasting fragrance. Starts of a bit flowery but the dry down is my favorite part and it lasts for so long. Surprisingly my girlfriend hates it. She sneezes everytime i put it on. But this is strictly an evening frag. Haven't tried it before in the day and office. I'm curious about how my clients will react when i meet them with this frag on. Recommended for those looking for something different, long lasting, sensual and rich.

I am a little surprise to see so many praise from GUYS. This smells more feminine than most of female fragrance! It is extremely sweet, but not just that. It is the kind of sweetness that makes me doubt this is a male fragrance. It smells sooooo flowery, cloy sweet, feminine I can think of wearing it in public.

I bought a bottle blind. Two sprays. Thast's it! selling it now ...

What else can be said about a simply amazing fragrance. I started using this pretty much as soon as it came onto the Australian market, and was immediately impressed by the quality of the composition. At the time, I do remember thinking "iris hmmmmm" but was keen on the powdery aspect to the fragrance. The supposed lipstick/makeup bag issue doesn't worry me as I find that settles out after some time. I have had so many compliments over the last 3 years from both sexes which seems to suggest that doesn't bother them.

From memory, one of the reasons why I initially investigated this fragrance was that I wanted something that had a similar texture (Joel_Cairo described it very well) to Chanel No. 5 without the same floral tones to it. In my mind this was the perfect equivalent that is masculine, refined and elegant all at the same time.

It is my number one scent, my pick me up, my feel good scent for when I'm not. I sometimes wear it to bed or sometimes just spray some on because I can. I believe that a good fragrance should become a signature to its wearer, and although I have about another 15 in my wardrobe, this is the one I go to most of the time (and mostly Mondays to Fridays).

I'm not 100% sure of the longevity or sillage on me, however, and feel that it only lasts about 4-5 hours, but I've always been very conservative in the sprays so maybe just need another sray or two over the couple I normally do.

Extravagantly delicious; lavender and burned sugar with a herbal dusting. It’s L’été en douce after weightlifting has given it a swimmer’s build and may therefore perhaps become one of my alltime faves. The smell of the ideal shoulder as EnDouce is idealized nape of the neck.

It does indeed smell (partly and only momentarily) like lipstick, makeup, the bottom of a purse, crayons, pencils, and the many other amusing adjectives used below. I've actually been searching for such a fragrance--I know it's odd but I really like the smell of lipstick. Anyway, the problem with this frag is that once the initial lipstick quality is gone, the frag becomes evocative of licorice, which I know is not in the composition. Anyway, I can't stand the smell of licorice--if nausea (not vomit but nausea) had an odor, I think licorice would be it. Bottom line: It does smell like lipstick but only partly and for a few minutes; then it smells like licorice, which makes me think of nausea and an old woman. My search for a fantastic lipstick frag continues.

My favorite. Sweet, strong and powdery. It opens with a strange, but beautiful, floral accord, with a make-up effect, also a bit earthy, that comes from the iris note. Drying down, in the heart, I get a lot of cacao, amber I think and iris (more subtle but there) powdery and dry. The basenotes composed of leather, vetiver and patchouli make it more masculine and a woodier, but the smell that still predominates is the combination of cacao and iris.
It doesn't hurt anyone's nose, but is strong enough to be remarkable. It's very rich, classy, complex and deep, noticeable high quality fragrance. As a sweet and strong fragrance, is better worn at night, or in colder weather. Great longevity (12 hour or more) and powerful sillage. Perfect for nights out.

I must be honest and say that the first time that I smelled Dior Homme, I didn’t like it. I’d sprayed it on a tester card, diorhomme1and thought it smelled of nothing but wet card and talcum powder. I discarded the card and didn’t bother looking at it again. I’m so pleased that I went about sampling other fragrances, especially those that contain Iris, because once I returned to Dior Homme 2 years later, I fell head over heels in love with it. So to anyone sampling fragrance, I want to tell you this: tester cards tell lies about fragrances. Dior Homme needs to be tried on the skin. Also, I don’t understand where the association with lipstick or makeup bags came from. It doesn’t smell remotely makeup bag-like. Dior Homme is a compliment monster.

I sprayed Dior Homme on this morning and am immediately reminded of why I love it: today, a very cold and crisp Winter day, it smells lightly Citrus and Chocolatey (Bergamot and Cocoa). When I spray it on in the middle of summer, it smells more Aromatic, (this must be the Sage and Lavender) and slightly powdered and dry (Iris). What happens quite quickly is that Iris heads centre stage and coats everything with it’s dry, talcum powdery scent, and the top notes take a backseat while this happens - they are still there, but just watching before they head on home. Amber usually makes fragrances warmer, but I think Dior Homme remains suitably cool when Amber should be making it’s presence known.

As the fragrance hits it’s drydown, it turns from powdery Iris to a soft Leather jacket, followed by a sweet musky Patchouli and slightly smoky Tobacco. Don’t be concerned - this Patchouli is not in drag like Midnight Poison - it’s very soft and pleasant. Dior Homme is a true gentleman in all his guises.

Utter class. I find it a formal, romantic scent. Certainly not something you wear with the boys out, going for hot dogs and beer at the game.

It's powdery, sweet, chocolaty. If I close my eyes and envision a shape for this scent, it would be a very round shape, without edges. Citrus aldehydes are high-pitched scent notes, but Dior Homme is as round and soft as a scent can be.

Very distinguished. I like it better than the Intense version, that is too chocolaty. I do like Dior Homme Cologne, which has less sweetness, and more citrus in the top and middle notes.

It smells like old lady purse, I agree with most of the negative reviews, a wrong blind buy, the best are the head notes but after that i smell only make-up and lipstick. And the "homme"attribute is totally wrong, Dior homme is feminine and an ordinary feminine scent.

I can't seem to find this one very much, but I spray it on when I do. it's very warm and inviting....there's a sweet note I smell in the beginning that sometimes puts people off (possibly the "lipstick" note?), but I think this is a very nice fragrance for fall and winter. I love the bottle too. much better than dior homme sport, as well.

I bought this one after testing it on my wrist, not too blown away. I'm glad I decided to order some online, because this scent is fantastic. Yeah, it goes on a little powdery at first, similar to lipstick I guess, however, the other notes are refreshing and the development is silky smooth. The dry down is incredible, a soft, sweet, but earthy scent. I couldn't quit sniffing my wrist about 4 hours into it. Longevity and sillage are also very good. 5 stars!

Perfectly deep fragrance. I much prefer it to Dior Homme Sport.

After 10-15 minutes, I get this beautiful twang of Synesthesia - I hear two perfect, round notes. Drying down, I get constant reminders of its chocolatey-caramel essence, and plenty of iris. Flowers can be manly too.

At the end, it's purely chocolatey leather. It's the kind of scent you wait for. Of course, like with any cologne, it may smell different on different people. I totally recommend trying it! I'm currently switching between this and YSL's L'Homme. The perfect yin-yang of subdued fragrances for the modern young adult.

Also, I have no idea what people are talking about when it comes to the "Lipstick" smell. Lipstick? Really?

Its a nice sweet, smooth and yes as it is said smells like crayon mixed with
a woman's purse but in a nice way!how can that happens ?
Because it is a Dior product I trust this house.
to me that leathery soft smooth smell is perfect not for anytime,I think is perfect for formal use or romantic meetings.
And here is my idea,I wore it when I was in my black leather jacket,my date
was amazed and love this scent(she said no doubt its a man's fragrance)
concluding this review I can say this is a good scent also to me is inoffensive
but not a great one.

I first encountered Dior Homme on a former love, and honestly, it was the best thing about him. There are reminisces of Musc Ravageur in this scent, but the iris lends it an aloof sophistication with a less, er, ravaged quality. I like this, and I like this on my own skin.

Sheer utter beauty in a bottle. This fragrance is transcendent in its immediate enveloping feeling of the exotic, the tranquil and the nostalgic. The tenderest deja vu. It uplifts my mood when I wear it. Gorgeous musky and floral accords tempered by a slivery-smooth note. A masterpiece of its kind. It may smell feminine to some, but it is pure heaven to me. Olivier Polge is a magician.

Not quite as sophisticated as I'd expected. It is extremely sweet, having ingredients making it slightly less-masculine than I'd have liked. Saying that, it is a nice smell, with a strong sillage and great longevity. A bit harsh on the top-notes but on the dry-down it is very pleasant. Great bottle design also.

Having read the other reviews and the notes in this fragrance, I am confused..... I just got a completely citrussy smell from this - tangerine dream... And it didnt settle into anything else, just very pungent tangerine peel. Not my cup of tea.... or piece of fruit. Maybe I got a dodgy tester?

Doesn't "homme" mean man in not-english? Not only is the fragrance aimed at men, but man is in the name? Two mistakes right in the marketing. This is easily unisex, and it's a refined, subtle, sexy, non-citrusy, conservative, unique, understated unisex. The problem is, it's not my thing. In fact, I don't really see this complimenting any man's style. It's not that it'll feminize the man wearing it, it just doesn't seem "right" for a man. On the other hand, this definately could be the "pantsuit" fragrance for a dragon woman about to engage in a hostile takeover. Just laying people off by the dozens and trying to get the stock price up.

Shame about the marketing though.

Exquisite interplay of contrasting notes with an underlying sweet dustiness. A masterpiece of perfumery and has been put to the top shelf in my wardrobe. The combination of iris and cocoa is a masterstroke, and the remaining notes serve to introduce (bergamot/sage in the top) or accentuate the base (vetiver/leather).

Delicate veil of refined notes and ultramodern elegant and sophisitcated.

One of the finest ever for men.

The iris in this is beautiful, and the make up smell in a male fragrance is brilliant in my opinion. It does not reveal its true beauty until the dry down, so if you're testing, give it some time. This is not saying that the opening is anything but lovely, but the dry down of Dior Homme is probably the best thing I have ever smelled. Easily wearable by a woman. In fact, although it's a male fragrance, it is more easily wearable by a woman than a man, because it *does* smell feminine. You can't let that keep you from enjoying it though, this smells like nothing else.

Dior Homme is easily my number one fragrance. When I'm having an incredibly great day and want a fragrance to complement the experience, it's this one. Longevity is just how I want it to be. I smell it all day, but not any longer. Projection is moderate. And the bottle design is smart.

Powdery, candied iris that decays into bubble-gum.

I loved this one at first sniff, and still love it today. I think that Iris has been much too feminized over the years and its nice to smell some decent masculine interpretations of the scent. That being said, I could easily imagine a woman wearing Dior Homme. It is really the best offering of 2005.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this one yet!
This is such an unusual scent, even though 1001 imitations have sprung out since its release.
First, design-wise: this may very well be one of the best designed perfume bottles EVER. The cleanliness and sleekness, the unexpected metallic element, it is such a jewel to have making an elegant statement on the dresser. I wish more designers would take this approach to their perfume bottles. Now,on to the scent.
Let people call it lipstick. When it first hit my skin, I said: "wow, this is going to work!". I was intrigued by the contrast between the sweet, powdery iris and this note I identified as black pepper but may be cardamom mingling with something else - leather, perhaps? I immeditaly had a vision of a woman like Grace Jones, somehwere inbetween the gender definitions, but beautiful, man or woman. Now I smell it on more guys than I did a couple of years ago, and it's very flattering on the skin.
I wear it, sparingly, probably not often enough to buy a bottle, but it's always there winking at me as I walk up to the cosmetics counter in a drugstore... especially before a night out. It can work perfectly as an evening scent for both men and women. Now, how many fragrances you can say that about? Dior Homme is such a gem!

Quite simply my favorite fragrance.... I can see why some people can't rap their heads around this; it's not your standard male fragrance. Though a quick, cursory sniff may allude to lipstick, a close analysis (repeat as needed!) presents SO much more. Reading other reviews, I wonder how many of those who think this only smells like lipstick did more than smell a sprayed-card at the mall.

Dior Homme is at once sweet and gourmand while also being distinctly masculine. In fact I think we can credit DH for showing us all that masculine doesn't have to mean strong vetiver or herbal notes. The notes easiest to identify are iris, vanilla, and cocoa, all of which fade in and out. The genius of DH is in the fragrance's depth. If all we smelled was iris, vanilla, and cocoa this would be nothing but gourmand. Repeated application leads one to realize that the background of leather, vetiver and patchouli balance the sweetness. On my skin leather becomes more pronounced over time.

TWO thumbs waaaay up.

The oak moss and leather which are commonly works as base notes meets us in the opening in a surprising way. then comes the powdery iris sealed with a hint of joyful cardamom and lavender. I think it is a very nice fragrance. It smells very homme and very home to me as my husband uses it for the last three years. I am a kind of person that gets bored of many popular fragrances before the end of the bottle comes but this is not such a simple fragrance. If it is not worn recently, I sometimes find myself asking "what is this you are wearing?"

If you are wearing a black velvet jacket, a tailored shirt, deep blue denim jeans and cool sneakers, Dior Homme will complete your image perfectly. This is not a summer frangrance at all. To my mind it's best for autumn. The scent of autumn chill. This frag simply blows be away. This is definitely a masterpiece. Just look at the bottle. Isn't it a stunner? The spray button of the bottle is pressed so softly and the sound of spraying is very pleasant. This is a superfecta. Hats off to Dior.

This scent is elegant, but strikes me as synthetic. It reminds me a bit of how my mother's purse used to smell--a confluence of lipstickiness, powdery leather. I can see this working for the right guy, but it is not for me.

Just like Ferré for Him, this comes off as lipstick to me. I'm not very fond of that smell. Definitely not a fan of iris. Smelling past the iris I detect a nice lavender and leather but the iris turns me away. Sorry, gentlemen, I don't want to smell like my mother's purse.

Confusing - that is really the only adjective that I can use to describe this fragrance. Confusing because I do not know if I like it or if I hate it. I received it as a gift from a family member who works for Dior and I find that is very fitting to anyone who prefers the Heidi Slimane look of the Dior Homme clothing collections. This is not a man's man fragrance, nor is it trying to be - it is a whole new idea on a men's fragrance. For a very unique character and someone who doesn't want to fit in the mold this is a good selection, but trying it out before is a must.

If this became a classic, I'd be very surprised. It's among the more expensive fragrances in this country, and Dior products are more exclusively marketed than in the past, so it might have some snob value. Otherwise I think it's feminine, strongly reminiscent of lipstick or a make-up bag...yes, intensely so. What interests me is that it's said to hinge on a pronounced iris note. I also believe iris oil(?) is expensive, so perhaps that justifies the higher price. BTW you won't find many bargains of this one on eBay. I don't know about projection, but it seems to last well. It does interest me, and I've been known to be susceptible to suggestion, but for me the jury's still out on this juice. I might eventually buy it simply because it's a bit odd and it might raise a few eyebrows when a man wears this.

This reminds me of Bach's Art of the Fugue in its baroque darkness and complexity. I get a lot of iris, tonka, cedar, and vetiver (in that order) after the vaguely fruity opening, although the iris and tonka seems to exchange places in terms of dominance depending on the day.

Like the Art of the Fugue, this isn't for everyone. It isn't even for me all the time, but it's a unique and worthwhile addition to my wardrobe; I can't imagine getting bored of a fragrance this enigmatic.

Who needs one more review of Dior Homme?

If you think you do, here's my take on it: This was an unusual scent for men when it first came out. It seemed a bit too powdery, too floral, too sweet. Yet it made an instant hit in a big way, and other designer fragrances for men began to feature iris in imitation of it. I know this isn't for everyone but let's face it: "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery."

Having said that, let's look at the composition. Iris: powdery; lavender: herbal-floral; cacao and amber: sweet. But also, sage: green; bergamot: green-citrus; cardamom: spicy; vetiver and patchouli: woody; and leather. There is a lot of balance for the powdery, sweet, and floral notes. I believe that balance, along with the novelty of this kind of offering as a mainstream men's scent, is what made it a success.

I wear it and like it; sometimes I think I like the even more reviled (and to my nose drier) Lanvin Arpège pour Homme even better. Both of these bring iris (orris root) back out of exile from men's perfumery; they set the clock back to 16th century Tuscany and made iris a men's note again. That wasn't easy. Others had been trying, mostly niche houses and "edgy"noses. This was the one that broke through to the larger market.

Well, I sprayed this on the strip and found it enticing. It seemed worthy of a test drive, so I spray it on the wrist and immediately, lipstick. Not completely disagreeable, but enjoyable to me either. I considered washing it off at this point but decided there was something I liked on the strip, so I'd wait and see. I'm certainly glad I did. The odd lipstick-y smell faded at about 20 where it begins it's manhood. The dry down was rich and a little edgy-- certainly wearable and enjoyable.

I used both Dior Homme and Dior Homme Intense(I don't think this one is being sold in the US at the moment), and let me tell you I love them both. So sophisticated and gentleman-like. It is for the guy who doesn't care what others would think of him necessarily, yet still wants to make a bold and significant statement about himself. It is not one of those Acqua di Gio/D&G Light Blue clones out there: it is quite unique.

Heavy iris, and lavender notes at the top, slightly feminine for an opening, I'll admit. Yet the gorgeous green vetiver balances it so perfectly, that it turns into a dry, airy, at the same time, intriguing scent. Iris is very strong, so it is not for the faint of heart. It was unlike anything I smelt before, so I had to have it. One must be confident with his sexuality with this one. But there is absolutely no way this could be a woman's fragrance anyways: vetiver is too strong to my nose for it to ever be one. Dior Homme Intense feels slightly more powdery, and with heavier lavender notes all around this time. But they are pretty much the same scent, as they should be.

Not only is it unique, but also very elegant and refined. Women go crazy for it, yet it is not just that. I know many guys who feel very comfortable wearing it. It completely surrounds your body, gives it a warm dryness, and dangerously extravagant flower notes. I will say though, it is more suitable for a younger crowd. Must test before buying, yet with a scent this unique, I wonder why one would have any doubts.

yum yum yummo. This is the scent for the year i reckon. A bit on the expensive side but it is definitely worth the extra $30. Stay relatively long - 8 hours possible. The "powdery" scent does stick but it is not sickly overpowering type, just the subtle whiffing type. If you like this, should try JPG Fleur Du Male. Good Good!

Dior says this one will become a new classic. It's not classic at all, it's very different (but not necessarily "good" different) from anything else. The initial burst is one of the few smells that can make me sick instantaneously. But the drydown is way better. The mix of flowers and sweetness is well balanced, with the iris being on center stage. The biggest problem though is that it smells very, very artificial, while the beauty of a perfume are it's natural ingredients. I agree with those saying it's mid notes smell like a make-up bag, but the base notes are much more flowery and gentle.

I bought this blind, and was dissapointed. The opening was interesting, but not my cup of tea. I waited and waited for the dry down the whole time thinking I smelled play-doh: and powdery sweetness. In the end if gave me a headache, so I gave it to a coworker who also gives me a headache.

By virtue of his character, this fragrance an UNISEX Villoresi could be a perfume even, he is something with a sonorous Italian name. For this Italian expression something it would be necessary to paraphrase concepts like that, than pl*: Opera, theatre, luxury, elegance, cleanness, make-up, gentlemanly dame…stb.
Well-known that Dior house was never famous for his restrainment, namely dresses than fragrance casewise. (Not chance that Yves Saint Lauren Dior went to a workshop, and back lo….Opium)
Well, disappointment was not caused with this fragrance.
The designer of the fragrance (Olivier Polge) that let me say it in that manner undertook a whacking risk, believes this fragrance was intended for men definitely, there is not a back altogether exactly simply his alley the „masculin” to a line.
This fragrance was characterize already in that manner than iris intended for men but is who keeps it on a straight for a female fragrance, believes composing with noble simplicity, the fragrance of this perfume, totally identical the lipstick, or the make-up with the powdered fragrance of the content of a bag. He managed to attain the proper provocative character again according to my opinion henceforth.
Already the fragrance opening the customary fresh, citrous than generally in the case of most perfumes. In the head fragrance sage and lavender ripples, that some bergamot follows with mild jarring, that the clear amber gives only a blunt light rather colour for a first fragrance wave. The heart a fragrance opens prompt quasi, and intensifies this blunt light, lays a creamy consistence underneath, and this deep amber away starts outward to radiate with most strong intensity.
The catalyst of this strength the ambergris and iris and the masterful mixture of the cocoa, providing a most special characteristic to the heart fragrance. Quasi to feel as soon as the thick, a deep creamy chord releases the powdered shining harmonies.
The even deeper basis, which takes it prisoner, nourishes this superb harmony long the face-powder notes. The vetiver and leather, or the patchouli giving the dry character of the fragrance the perfect structure of the fragrance is kept steady.
For me yes hit fragrance, I will use it often!

Reading the last reviews, I noted a bit of controversy related this fragrance and I realized my opinion on it was slightly controversial the first time I smelled it. But aren't all unique or rare things controversial?
I remember that the first time I smelled this scent, I didn't enjoy it much. Like it didn't stand out to me for some reason, besides the neat looking bottle, but after I left the store and went on through the mall I couldn't stop smelling my wrist. I have to say, I'm sorry I didn't go back and buy a bottle for my fiance.
It's unique in it's way and I didn't find it feminine like it was suggest before, but as a man you must have a degree of self-confidence to wear it. The scent itself is rather attractive due to the warmth it has. Even though the initial smell is powdery and sweet and the masculine notes are subtle.
The only downside I see about it, is the fact that it doesn't last very long, but still it's a smooth and classy, but complex scent that I found lovely.
And here it is... My first review.

I love this. For some odd reason it reminds me of art class in primary school. Like a mix between Prang Water Colour Paint, crayons, pencils, and freshly made paste on construction paper. It sparks the notion of creativity and wonder. Fascination and desire. Calm and innocence. In a word, it reminds me of . . . Art

A remarkably formal offering from the house of Dior, yet by no means staid or starched. A very distant, aloof sort of frag, with a strange but intriguing iris heart layered with rich gourmand scents above.

Superbly blended frag, with none of the commonplace, boring "aquatic" and "fresh" notes one sees in nine-tenths of all mainstream frags introduced these days. Still, I don't know that Dior Homme will soon be on my wish list. I have enough formal frags as it is, and think I shall just stand back and admire this one. It's the sort of frag I'll spritz on when I go to a Sephora, but not a huge priority for me right now. Now Jules, on the other hand . . .

I'd better find a piece of furniture to duck behind before I get going here...

Dior Homme has a very conventional sweet citrus opening, with a blend of abundant white flowers welling up underneath. A very strong, soapy lavender soon takes center stage, while the persistent citrus note grows so tart as to become discordant. The much-vaunted iris starts out very deeply buried under all the heaps of lavender.

It takes at least a half an hour for the ugly citrus top note to fade and the lavender to loosen its grip enough to release any of the other notes. Only then does the iris come into full focus, surrounded by a white floral bouquet and resting on some rather anemic woods and just a touch of powder. Quite a bit of sweet fruit lingers through the development, and this leaves Dior Homme smelling a little ordinary to me, given the number of saccharine fruity designer scents on today's market. By the time it's reached its powdery, soapy dry down, I've lost all interest in this fragrance.

Did I say "ordinary" somewhere? Thought so. I'll take Iris Silver Mist, Iris Bleu Gris, Bois d'Iris, or Iris Poudre over Dior Homme any day.

I didn't warm up to this fragrance easily, but have grown to really appreciate its subtlety and warmth. It's a good everyday fragrance that harmonizes with almost any situation and circumstance. All of the notes are of the same value - pale whispers in a conversation that is dominated by a gentle iris which dominates until the leather drydown happens. The iris, cardamon, vetiver and lavendar are all mild participants in a subtle blend. A comforting iris/leather fragrance.

It smells like lipstick to me, don´t get it. I'm sure it will become quite avant garde.
Smell better when proyect though.
If you want something more masculine and with a prominent iris note, try out "Rien" from Etat libre D'orange, a msater piece, or simply I'd rather get the Dior Homme cologne that has citrusy notes and semi fade away that iris note like lipstick naturally.
Pity, this version just last long 15mt on your skin!.

It is not a bad fragrance, but just like some other reviewers have told: it smells like lipstick or a makeup bag. It smells more like the lipsticks of past what my mom used to use. When I was a small kid, time to time I had tried to put lipstick on my lips. I can still remember the smell of the lipstick and the makeup bag. Because of that I find it feminine and not an interesting fragrance.

I completely agree with libertine. It's hard to stop smelling it once you've started.

Here's what I've gotten from it:
when I first tried it, it was a whirlwind of cotton candy and warm caramel. After about 10 minutes, I warmed up more and mellowed a bit. I caught notes of Givenchy Pi.. and actually the slightest touch of Emporio He (dunno where that came from). That progressed to smell a LOT like Lolita Lempicka (women's version).
It's been on for about an hour now and I think it's pretty much stabilized. It still has a lot of the musky vanilla of LL but less "in your face." I'm getting some of the bugspray qualities as well... but oddly, I kinda like it :)

Yes, I like it.. and yes, I'll probably have to buy it now. Very strong, very unique. Gimme Gimme

I was so excited to get out and try Dior Homme after reading about it here. The bottle is beautiful. Yes, it's different. I've never smelled another men's fragrance like it. But I have smelled SOMEthing like it... a chapstick type lip balm my sister used when we were kids... Like the lip balm, Dior Homme is so MUTED. It's so ROUNDED, it is possibly one of the most boring fragrances I've ever encountered. Like a cloud of nothing, a fragrance black hole. But never being hasty to cast judgement I gave it time...

It simply didn't seem to change in a positive way on me. It just got MORE boring, if that's possible. I was expecting so much more from this Dior offering. But in the endI think I would have gotten better sillage from rubbing my sister's childhood lip balm on my wrists.

This composition makes me realize that each person has his or her own tastes and one man's trash is another's treasure as they say. I am SURE there are many many satisfied Dior Homme customers, but I can't imagine how that happens. That said, it's not actually BAD. So, 2 out of 5 for originality and bottle design.

Dior Homme is my work scent. So different from most mens fragrances. It's very soft and powdery yet projects quite well. I wear it for work because i think it comes across as quite distinguished and smart. It's one of those addictive smells, once it's own i have to keep smelling myself. A winner!

Sweet, powdery, gourmand, long-lasting. Yes, I agree with most of what has been said. It is a unique scent. The first time I tried it I admired the novelty. The second time I tried it I appreciated the subtlety of the mix and the duration of the drydown. But by the third time, I realized it was going to make me sick to my stomach every single time. Three strikes - you're OUT!

Dior Homme is (in my opinion) destine to become a classic. It isn't nearly as sweet as most gourmands nor is it as feminine as most floral's. A distinct leather note blends perfectly with the iris and lavender. Dior Homme can very easily be classified as a "unisex" fragrance as it is one of my daughter's favorites. The drydown is amazing and one of a few colognes I over apply purposefully.

Many fragrances have specific applications...again, in my opinion, and I'd categorize Dior Homme as a "sensual/romantic" fragrance. I wouldn't wear it to a ball game with my buddies or to a closing of a sales agreement, but it lends itself much better to a "familiar lover" situation. Dior Homme is hardly "macho manly" as the likes of Bois du Portugal or Havana, but it is more of a "sensitive manly" which is suitable for intimately situations. I get a few wisps of the lipstick note, but I can't tell if it is from Dior Homme or from this kiss my girlfriend just placed on my cheek...either way, I don't mind. The perfect application would be a night at the symphony, the opera, a Broadway play or a fine restaurant dressed to the nines with a beautiful familiar lover.

The list of ingredients reads like an enigma to me. The leather, vetiver and lavender makes it sound like a dry, masculine fragrance and it's quite the opposite. I love cardamom but get none. The iris might possibly account for the cool, almost licorice-like, sweetness.
The nicest thing I can say about this scent is that it reminds me a little bit of sugared tea with milk and a lemon slice. Black tea (not green tea, it's just green and fresh and citrusy) and leather often have similar qualities to my nose, so perhaps that makes some kind of sense, and the hint of citrusy freshness might possibly be the vetiver. The sweetness is definitely more vanilla/tonka/honey/gourmandy than floral to my nose though. All in all, a nice and pleasant scent, but too sweet and bland for me (and i'm not a man).

I have reviewed this one before. I think it is well made and inventive. But in my opionion it disappears to quickly on the skin. It is quite simple not strong enough. This one should really have a extreme version. For something along the same line. Try my recent nr 1 favourite classic Eau de Hermes. Much better sillage and stronger. In my opinion just as inventive and a great scent. I give this one a neutral because of the bad strength and sillage.

I'm surprised they took so long to bring out a simple 'Pour Homme' scent. Dior tends to bring out quite over the top and powerful frangrances which can date, but this one is very chic and understated. With most of Dior's you can have a fun game of 'guess the decade' but this one is more subtle and could have been brought out any time (OK, not the 80s). The Mister said it smelled like wet silk and that's a very good way to describe the heart of it. It also settles and becomes a bit fruitier and warmer, settling well into the skin whilst still leaving a nice vapour for those you're sitting with. this is also something I've found with Addict Eau Fraiche 1. Not womanly, just not for hairy chested macho boys.

One of those love it or hate it frags that usually evokes a powerful response, it's rare to find someone just indifferent about it. I don't think this is as feminine as other reviewers have suggested, nor as challenging. Really, you need the right attitude (i.e. comfortable self-confidence) more than anything else to pull it off right. You don't need to be iggie pop or whatever the guy below said.
It's kind of a gourmand, kind of not. I smell the cocoa as others have remarked, but basically, once it settles down it smells like fine leather, vanilla and florals. It does bear a passing resemblence to cosmetics or maybe lipstick (maybe also a fine liquor) but on closer scrutiny the fine details (should) evoke different images. In any case, in all the (numerous) compliments I've received from women they themselves have never mentioned any such analogies. A couple things... 1. don't over-apply or you WILL get teary eyed and nautious, 2. I really don't understand at all what these people are saying about poor longevity, honestly, more than 3-4 or so sprays is too much, no exaggeration, if it is a proper bottle a good application should last most of the day. Classy, and rather unique.

"Strong enough for a man, but made for a woman." These are the thoughts that come to mind when smelling this.

That being said, this is a very beautiful creation. Another member mentioned the word "textured" and was spot on. The combination of lavender and leather are delicious. Yet I can't help but feel that this was originally designed for a woman. It smells nice, like lipstick smells nice. But, like lipstick, I prefer it on my wife.

The_good_life's review was beautiful and I too feel that certain men's fragrances merit social commentary.

I first viewed this scent as an artwork, but also a novelty, even if percieved it too feminine. True, it really smellled like lipstick on my skin, but that peculiar kind of lipstick mixed with syrup and synthetic strawberry flavour. But just as i grew increasingly dissapointed, it agian turned into something different, woody and powdery, tough with a woody note reminescent of dated scents and cheap deodorant sprays made ages ago, when they didn't protect against sweating, but just smelled intoxicating and alcoholic. Memories of sleazy yesterday's scents, combined with the utmost ( not only synthetic, but cruelly, banally vile) futuristic frenzy of artificial- and truly smelling so- of plastic, girl-boy scents and ven something sulphurous or phosphorous, reminding of the smell of matches or firecrackers before and after burning. Still, daring, but failed combination, considering that one might expect more from Dior. Some notes are truly good tough, but only isolated from the entire combination they might have been worth something, because in the mixture, they are somewhere lost between the most creepy or unimpressive chemicals.

I have to agree, somewhat solemnly, that after reading some of the references to makeup bag smells, I made that connection with Dior Homme as well.

That said, thankfully, it is not enough to put me off this most excellent fragrance! This stuff has quality written all over it. The sillage is wondrous and I feel very nice and sated when I wear it.

The longevity can be a problem, from experience, and the first time I wore it, it disappeared from my wrist within a few (3) hours. However, later on that evening, I continued to get the amazing drydown of Homme more than eight hours after! I cannot explain it, but longevity is no longer a problem for me at this point.

Love this one wholeheartedly! High marks indeed.

This one is to remind me when I open the back cavity of my electric guitars.. It´s smells like wet wood, so nice and exact that would believing you´re sanding a wood blank or similar.. Maybe a bit stronger compared to other branches but this a rule of thumb when you´re talking about Dior. Middle and Heart notes are slightly different. You can assume this is a dry one..

This will be the third time I post a review on Dior Homme, and I return only because I have finally settled upon the perfect word, that has escaped me before. Some frags have a "texture", in addition to their smell, and Dior Homme is one of them. Dior Homme, once that zingy iris blast has cleared, feels "sueded". I'm not sure there is actually leather in there, sometimes I smell it, others I don't, but nevertheless, every time I sniff Dior Homme, I think of an off-white, stone-colored suede. Take from that what you will.

On another note, though I disagree with him, the very best review on this page is good_life's.

An adventurous scent for men. Powdery, floral but with 'masculine' notes in the dry down. Without masculine notes it would be Flowerbomb (Viktor&Rolf). I see that Olivier Polge is responsible for both- a laboritory accident perhaps? It could be perceived as either a suave gentlemen's fragrance or the smell of an older lady's bathroom. Having said that, as a younger guy I find myself wearing it with reckless abandon with a suit to weddings etc....

Notes:
Top: Lavender, sage, bergamot
Middle: iris, cocoa, amber
Base: vetiver, patchouli, leather

Dior Homme opens with a good blast of lavender and sage, resulting in an invigorating fresh and herbal accord. Within 20 seconds, you can detect some sweetness; Dior Hommes transition to a gourmand fragrance from this deceptive opening has started. A little gourmand flash, brought in by the cocoa and amber combination..not bad. I am down with gourmands.

A great iris note makes a very brief appearance during the middle notes;I liked those 30 seconds. From there though, a strange accord starts appearing. It almost smells like...ladies makeup. Or lipstick. It is interesting, but I would never want to smell like this. Its like I had rubbed revlon makeup on my wrists and neck. Sadly, while this accord tones down a bit during the drydown, it never goes away. Add to this very poor longevity (1 hour max on my skin), and I am left staring at the excellent bottle thinking what could have been.

If you like gourmands, give Dior Homme a try; to me, it cant compare to stuff like A*Men or New Haarlem in that area. Looking for an Iris based fragrance? You wont be able to smell much in this one; go for the excellent Iris Bleu Gris or Iris Silver Mist.

If you want to smell of make-up, Dior Homme is your man..or woman. Women might warm up to this...but my guess is too many men will find it a little too feminine. Men, stick to Fahrenheit.

Wow!!
This one smells exactly like lipstick
(and my dear mother). An interesting scent for the modern shemale.

To me the iris is faint compared with the cocoa and lavender. On a bloke on the bus I smelt orange / bergamot? I love this frag but find it short lived and close to the skin. So its perfect for a night in with the lady in your life then. Maybe curled up next to a log fire...with a cup of cocoa to share between you.

I keep changing my mind about this, I really want to like it, and sometimes, fleetingly, I do, but overall there's something gluey and headache inducing about it. I don't find it particularly warm and certainly not rich. It's dizzying, the way florals can be, and after a while it makes me feel as though I've been inhaling floral scented washing powder. Perhaps it's one I might come to like smelling on others, rather than on myself (though I've not come across anyone wearing it yet).

I have come to like this scent more and more. Warm, rich, incredibly smooth, classy, and just a touch gourmand, but not so much as to be foody in the least. Not really an iris scent IMO, but does have an iris note. Lasts a long time, but does not develop much. It does project a lot, but it's sort of a warm, enveloping sillage that slowly fills the space. One of the most pleasant fragrance encounters I have had was smelling Dior Homme on a gentleman in a hotel lobby in Sweden. Very nice.

The working titles for this were ‘Oedipus’ and ‘Régréssion pour homme’ since it is all about smelling like that tangled creature that was you/your mother when she was cleaning up your little wet-diaper behind. That sweet flowery blend of soap, cream, baby talcum and her perfume... I have it on good authority that this was created by Sigmund Freud for the house of Dior in 1935, but it was not released at the time due to the excessive popularity of anally repressive scents in much of Europe. Now, however its time has come. It is brilliantly executed, as you would expect from the greatest healer of tormented psyches, wrapping you in a seamless warm blanket of long-repressed infant memories of unlimited attention-pleasure-instant-gratification. What better scent to comfort (and, perhaps, anaesthesize) the anxious multitude cowering in the cold light of the neoliberal global order?

When smelled it for the first time it didn't give me a good first impression, as the top note was earthy like a dead flower (due to the iris), but later it turned to sweeter notes, like sugar or caramel, in a powdery way. Soft, not intrusive and classic, I imagine it would be suitable for office, daytime and evening use, for someone who wants to project a more mature, elegant image.

i recently bought a bottle of d i o r homme, the smallest version (it's such a long lasting fragrance, that 50 ml is more than enough), and let me tell u that dior is dior and will always be dior... ever since i tried it for the first time, it immediately jumped in my top 3 (which, by the way is: nemo - cacharel, obsession - calvin klein and now, d i o r homme)
the blend of ingredients is breathtaking.. i dont't have anything to compare it to, except maybe for a*men, or envy for men. the category is the same, but d i o r is unique. by the way, the middle of may, and i wear it with no problem whatsoever.
this will become a classic!

My feelings regarding this fragrance are quite wishy washy. Some days I find it to be an ultra-smooth refined take on a sweetened leather with a tasteful touch of floral... rich and heady. Other days it almost touches off my gag reflex. I very distinct fragrance, and one that is worn quite commonly here in Ottawa Canada. It's a scent that "oozes" quality and dignity and one that has "modern classic" written all over it. When it's good it's really really good.. but when it's bad.. it's horrid!

It is indeed very subtle. I don't find it to be very fem, just a little sweet and edible. I love the lavender...it seems to offset some of the potential cloying qualities of the caramel/chocolate heart and base. When i wear it, I feel classy and calm.

I have received great reviews and compliments from women on this fragrance until it dies off in about 1-2 hours. I find myself bathing in it to make the scent last for a longer period of time. If it had a lot longer lasting power I would probably appreciate it even more. Overall it is ideal for a spring or summer day for me and is definately appreciated by the younger women.

I can't imagine any occasion on which I would be happy wearing this. Way, way too sweet and far too feminine for what purports to be a "male" fragrance. My advice to any guy wearing this is to forget the marketing and packaging, grow yourself a set of balls and spend your money on a proper cologne.

In my opinion, one of the finest scents I've ever smelled. Very complex and subtle. Opens with a powdery burst of sweet and slightly smoky spices which I believe is Iris, Cocoa and Cardamom. Reminds me slightly of caramel too. Akin to walking into an exotic bakery. Slowly dries down to a sugary, leather note. Lasts all day. Bottle and atomizer are fantastic too. Bottle has some great straight lines and atomizer includes a metal tube that flows down through the flacon. Brilliant and unique!

I don't knwo what is is... The smooth caramel, the gentle, perfect iris scent... But somehow, Dior Homme has managed to get the smell and feeling of freshly washed silk sheets, and all the sexy erotic imagery that entails, and bottled it. It's great. I like it. Girls like it.

Very interesting opening: the sage and lavender contrast—almost conflict—with each other, but they work it out, and, helped by the iris and bergamot, settle into a nicely structured delicate accord. I’m not yet sure what to make of these top notes—I find them original, and I like them for that reason alone, but I suspect I will soon come to love the opening for its own sake. By the time the middle notes open up fully with the iris, cocoa, and amber, I’m totally loving it. These heart notes are superb (if not original)—they are rich, warm, and sensual—the iris is stellar. The iris and cocoa are gradually reduced as the scent moves into its base. There is a subtle transition to a long lasting base of leather, patchouli, and vetiver that is fully equal in quality to the rest of the fragrance. Rich, full, somewhat edgy accords in an elegantly structured fragrance, I hope Dior Homme foreshadows what is to come in designer offerings.

*Dior Homme*, a well-mannered, immaculately groomed, impeccably dressed svelte Frenchman in a modish, sharp, well-fitted, light grey wool suit and the lightest of pink shirts, open neck, of course. A Frenchman you could spend the whole day with and never be at cross-purposes over anything. You would marvel at the the civility, the élan, the assuredness, the intellectuality, and you would say to yourself, ah Christian!, what a friend to have, indeed.

I personally love this although thus far I have only smelled it once on a card. The cocoa is not overdone and is merely peeking aroung the corner at the iris, leather, and woods. It is the perfect fragrance for those who do not like gourmnads like myself because as I said, the cocoa is hardly noticeable but just enough to add some sexiness. The slight powder note is not overdone either. Overall, the fragrance is classy, elegant, and comforting. I think I will order some today.

Two thumbs up! A bold and daring iris fragrance for men and it managed to remain masculine. This is probably my favorite powdery sweet fragrance with a floral bite. It also smells really classy, definitely not for t-shirt and jeans, i think it suits really well in the professional business environment. This has quickly climbed on the top of my list.

Despite all the rave reviews, I still think there's nothing outstanding in this fragrance. If that initial cheap powdery make up smell is the ultimate stuff in the fragrance's world, I must be missing something here...Well It starts with this hideous smell (that some consider fantastic) and after maybe 1 hour dries down to a pleasant sweet powdery smell, nothing earth shaking though. I couldn't pass through these initial notes... The same ocurred when I tried Zino by Davidoff (I couldn't pass through those floral/harsh top notes)And this the link: think of Zino's drydown with a powdery layer.
Can be easily worn by a woman, by the way...

Dior Homme was a big disappointment. Nothing terribly new or innovative from the brand that seems to take innovation to new heights. Started out ok, turned powdery too quickly and did not last long at all. After a while, it went very sour and I had to wash it off.

I was excited about this scent when it was launched but was disappointed upon experiencing it. I feel it's too flat and dry. I don't smell any of the warmth and the sweetness that some have mentioned. Similar to Cartier's Declaration (another disappointment to me), it's nice but I wouldn't wear it. There are many more exciting scents to enjoy out there. The bottle, however, is phenomenal.

The shy little bottle seduced me into spraying this on my skin more than once, only to be left smelling rather strongly of the same greasy-powdery accord that's left in a cosmetics bag after it's been emptied out. Perhaps some people have the fondest associations with that odour. Sadly, I'm not one of them.

Dior's latest release was a pleasant surprise. The sweetness of this fragrance might not be for everyone. The caramel middle notes, and the leather lurking in the background is somewhat reminiscent of Dzing! However, the lack of complexity and sillage makes it, at best, a poor man's substitute for L'Artisan's masterpiece. Nevertheless, I will recommend this well-made scent.

I couldn't believe how much I thought this smelled like (wait for it) lipstick when I first encountered it. However, it wears very well and the floral quality, while not something I look for in a man's fragrance, is wonderfully refreshing.

I had to really wear this scent a few times before deciding if I actually liked it. I've decided that for me...it's a thumbs up. But I can understand why it may not be to everyone's liking. For me...it's a soft, but lingering, fresh, warm scent that is solid through and through. It's worth a try! Joshaugustt

One of the classiest fragrances I have ever worn. It has flowery and fruity notes somewhat reminiscent of Hanae Mori and Issey Miyake, but it also has a distinct musty note as opposed to the fresh and clean notes of the above 2 scents. As a result it is more dark and classly than fresh and upbeat. A great, slightly more formal alternative to floral and fruity scents. Great longevity.

I really, really wanted to like this and was very much looking forward to it. Sadly, it's not me. It's a very good scent in the sense that it's well made and you can get all the notes and some blend just perfectly a they flow into one another. That it has flowers? I like a scent for men that has flowers in the first place and given that houses are too afraid to roll them out, i congratulate Dior. But as i said, it's not me. It's sweet in the way i dont like sweet and it lasted more than i ever wanted it to last and yeah people WILL notice you and say: what are you wearing? it's almost popcorn caramel-y for me (not that it has any) and also i smell what is it brandy? i guess...
I respect this eau de toilette...from afar.

As many reviewers have already said, this scent is superbly presented and of evident high quality. But - it really has very little new to say. It reminds me of a number of scents already in my wardrobe and I do wonder why I bought it. It is not unlike Azzaro Visit and has more than a passing likeness to EA Night. However, as has also been said it does seem to go down well with the ladies. My wife, who rarely passes any comment often praises this one....

Very good cologne - best of 2005 year releases for me. Heavenly iris with herbs on top - but to prolong its beauty one must spray over ones dress, not on skin. For iris I`d go for Bois d`Iris by The Different Company.
Understated, muted fragrance for formal wear. Pity - from heart to base it is just neutral sweet, close to skin and almost-nothing-to-say-about scent.

I think the comparison with Gucci PH is accurate inasmuch that the design aims to make the same statement (unashamedly "old money" shape and message of unapologetic elitism and general arrival in life), and also because of the woody-sweet tones. The similarity probably stops here: Gucci PH is very bold, unforgettable, trend-setting, and the smoky tone in the topnote, melting into whiskey-brandy hints, is a very unusual solution. This CD, meanwhile, is classy, it is well-balanced, but it lacks a hook which separates monumental scents from merely very good ones. This one is merely a very good scent.

UNDOUBTEDLY the most expressive Dior scent I've ever encountered for men! I couldn't stand the thought of being without this scent for the rest of my life, I bought two 100 ml bottles! After smelling the daring and ethereal quality of it's iris absolute note, the rest of the drydown is sensual, sophisticated, and of incense-like quality reminiscent of Amouage Dia. Floriental? Gourmand? Perfection, right down to the steel tube within the bottle.

INTERESTING! :-) This one is unlike any other men's Christian Dior scent that I have ever experienced. It is sweet, not cloyingly so, and has a smooth feel to it that is reminiscent of Casran by Chopard (another exquisite oriental scent). It is complex, musky, sweet, woody...just a wonderfully crafted Dior scent!

To me, this is an EDT version of Flowerbomb. They almost smell identical to me. Flowerbomb is just stronger and more potent than this. The iris is very pronounced and lovely. Dior Homme is a very classy and very feminine fragrance for men and hopefully it will be the catalyst for a better variety amoung mens fragrances.

I like this scent a lot..... It has some candy-note..kinda like Thierry Muggler's scent...but not too exxagerated....

All in all a sweet scent....smells nice right away..unlike scents that have to evovle over some time before smelling decent...

The smell itself isn't too powerful.....and therefore not causing me headache.......which a lot of scents do (on me at least)

At the moment this is my facvourite scent...

I agree with those who find a similarity between Dior Homme and HM. I believe that both have tonka bean in the base. I wasn't sure I would like Dior Homme - so many contradictory things have been written about it already - but the scent on a strip really intrigued me; the initial soft iris note has a powdery, dry aspect which doesn't say *floral*, precisely, but it's very intriguing. I disagree that this could be a feminine fragrance, though. The tobacco-and-leather quality is subtle, but it's there, and it takes Dior Homme out of the feminine range, at least for me. Dior Homme strikes me as a highly integrated fragrance, as well. I have a little bit of trouble picking out individual notes in its composition. To some this will mean it lacks development, but I don't need a cologne to be linear or to have all its "parts" identifiable. The combination of lavender, leather and something smoky is warm and beguiling, and that's enough. I think there might be a little too much of the tonka bean; it becomes noticeably sweet if applied heavily. For the most part, though, it stay pretty close to the skin - in a good way.

Very nice woody fragrance on par with Gucci PH. Definitely a lot of depth to this one as well as sillage. The drydown is something worth waiting for.

One of the best releases in the last year or so.

A softer more refined version, at least to my nose, of Hanae Mori Edt. I seem to be the only one who thinks so but ??? It is definitely worth a try. The drydown is very nice...don't wash it off...give it a good 15-20 minutes to make a decision....enjoy!

As far as I know, this is the first men's fragrance to use iris as a significant note. It may seem a little flowery in the opening but dries down to a rich, warm fragrance that is like nothing else on the market. This has replaced Michael by Michael Kors as the fragrance whihc makes women ask me, "What is that wonderful smell?" Not for everyone – thankfully – but I'm hooked.

Already a big success in my home country, I can easily see why. Dior Homme just oozes quality. Everything from the flawless packaging and perfect bottle design to the dry iris/cocoa, powdery ambigous yet classic blend has obviously been overseen by Hedi Slimane personally. The man knows what he's doing. Just try Dior Homme and you'll understand.

The top notes wear off rather quickly and once the fragrance settle down it show a somewhat lack of/linear development on the skin. I can see the connection to L’instant pour Homme by Guerlain but the scents are not identical and this become evident on the dry-down were L’instant turn out to be a bit bitter and Dior Homme remains smoothly balanced against the cocoa and the amber with good sillage close to the skin. So is this another “generic” fragrance for men? The answer must with no doubt be “NO”. Sniffing this from my wrist, I find it hard to believe that this is a mens fragrance. It even reminds me of some dated female fragrance already out there. Heidi Slimane is taking a huge risk to release the most feminine fragrance, wearing the letters “homme” on the label, to this date. A scent mostly for the androgynous rock star-wannabe. However, that should be consider a good thing. Four stars out of five.
