Ambre Passion (2005)

A perfect winter fragrance. Very linear, stays true from top notes to base, but softens and mellows as the day goes on. The geranium note keeps this from being too strong and ambery. The vanilla adds powder to the dry down but no foodie note. I detect no animalic notes at all. Excellent sillage. I love this one. It has all of the elements of a great signature scent.

I'm sorry, but the animalics in this made it absolutely unwearable. There's a lovely amber base, yes, but it was wildly rank on me - very dirty and animalic. One of the few ambers I had to scrub off my skin. I'd like to see how it smells on someone who can handle this, maybe Laura Mercier?

This amber is intriguing. It has at once, a vanillic and syrupiness like molasses, a somewhat crisp, sour apple tinge, and a deliciously dirty animalic quality that I think is from castoreum and so gives it a very deep, leathery quality. Possibly a bit offputting, but hard to stop wanting to sniff. I can't decide if I love it or not.
