Goes on with a pleasant and woody scent reminiscent of the original Off bug spray, but far lighter. I was only able to smell it for about a minute, after which the odor completely disappeared. I can still smell a bit of a prickly, cedar-like odor if I sniff directly on skin, but after half an hour Molecule 01 has failed to resurface as an ambient scent. I'd suspect anosmia, but this seems to be a common story. I had better luck with Molecule 02, which although similarly ethereal in fragrance did have the "coming and going" property that some have described for this one. As far as this product being a colossal scam on the perfume-buying public, all I can say is that I'm happy it's available for sampling. Even if you wouldn't wear it as a fragrance, it's useful as an educational resource since Iso E Super is so prevalent in modern perfumes. 26 October 2009

I go back and forth on this fragrance. I think if one is unfamiliar with Iso E Super and the whole idea of synthetics in perfumery in general, Molecule 01 can be quite captivating. Because there's something slightly otherworldly and unnatural -- of course -- about that pepper, incense, and Iso E Super's idealized cedar, a combination that smells familiar enough to grab your attention but is weird enough to keep you guessing. But over time and as one smells more fragrances with Iso E Super, the veil is lifted and a lot of Molecule 01's narrative interest sort of falls away. Still good, but perhaps not mystical. But the price they ask for this stuff is HILARIOUS. Totally not worth it. Now, if they'd charge less and perhaps cut out some of the pretentious uber-designer nonsense that surrounds it, then this fragrance might be worth your while. 06 February 2009

Well. I agree with many reviewers here in regards to the strange properties of this scent, which I received as a sample. It's there one minute and then gone, over and over. It was frustrating to wear it one day and not smell anything, then do laundry days later and the scent is still going strong on the shirt I discarded. But I like the clean woodsiness that came through when I could smell it, so I used it as a room spray. My guests were charmed by the freshness of it, and its elusive qualities became its greatest strength. I got a certain amount of satisfaction using it that way, until it ran out. 15 January 2008

A very unusual experience. I've had several compliments on this one from older women, been asked what it is, etc. Yet after the initial application, I can't smell a thing. I have no idea what it is that they like about it, but apparently it's like having a little cloud of fragrance around you. Some have said there's an incense element. Although I like the effect it has on others, a big part of my enjoyment of scent is being able to experience it myself. I won't be back for more, but there's certainly something going on here. 20 December 2007

Surprisingly soft and sweet, almost buttery. I actually don't even read it as a "woody" scent at all. It's not the spicy wood I got from Escentric 01 - perhaps that was really the incense and pepper? Perhaps I can't really feel iso e super at all, or at least not after having smelled Escentric 01 for a little while? If I smell Molecule 01 very closely I get vague hints of spice and wood, but it's mostly just soft and buttery. I much prefer the pepper kick of Escentric 01 but it's not bad at all. 08 November 2006
