1881 Black (2006)

A nice one. I am not generally a Cerruti fan and bought this blind. A very good purchase: opens up a bit flowery on the top notes but only for a few minutes. Then it turns to a honey & candy smell which reminds me of C. Herrera CH Men.
Great longevity, i get 10 hrs on my skin, with several hours of strong projection. A great blind buy, i recommend it especially that it can be found very cheap.

I think this smells very sweet and powdery after a few hours . I dont think this fragrance is strong at all - somehow I was expecting more from this . A total letdown

Oriental woody, sweet, a bit synthetic, strong-I recommend one spritz only, great longveity, quite youthfull. Of course there are better scents out there, but all in all, not bad...but not quite black, I must add.

Nothing like the original 1881 which is a soapy green and fresh scent. This, like the others mentioned here, is a very medicinal smell. Sweet and woody. Yes, just like Joop! HOmme and Burberry. A little disappointing, not a good name for it but the stained glassy black bottle is nifty.

Upon application Cerruti Black immediately reminded me of the original Burberry (the one with the silver cap, formerly known as London). And they certainly share a sticky, synthetic, sweet vibe and an intense mossy feel. I kind of enjoy it in the Burberry but it gets out of hand in this one. Especially that artificial marzipan note goes haywire on me. I did however notice that it works extremely well on some guys, making it one of those "chameleon" colognes that are impossible to judge without trying it on your on skin. On my friend it just smelled warm, clean and projected very strongly. In other words worth a try - results may vary...

I agree with Ken_Russell. The black is a misnomer in this case. It smells like a blend of JOOP or dunhill DESIRE mixed with CREED SMW or Sean John UNFORGIVEABLE. Sweet like candy with a pepper (read Unforgiveable or SMW) showing up gradually thru the dry down. Very nice scent, wrong name.
