A bit spicy and a pretty much a floriental… Vintage Soul is not as bad as I thought it would be because of my familiarity to several other Liz Claiborne fragrances. It has a bunch of fruit listed in the opening – cantaloupe, apple, and cranberry – but I get mainly a bergamot / modified fruit cocktail opening with some patchouli in the background. Also in the background is a flyby cranberry note that provides a bit of interest, but the rest of the fruit notes don’t come across very clearly… Del Monte Fruit Cocktail, anyone? The floral heart comes on quite strong and I mainly get jasmine and linden a bit spiced up: Not a bad accord and the heart is more pleasant than not. The drydown presents a musky, vanilla-y patchouli accord that surprised me because I thought it a rather masculine – masculine enough (and enjoyable enough) that I wouldn’t hesitate to wear it. There’s nothing ultra-special about Vintage Soul, but it is competent and affable, and I find that a bit unusual for a Liz Claiborne fragrance. I appreciate that it is non-synthetic and not overly sweet. It has a rather substantial opening and middle accord, but the drydown very nicely diminishes the excess strength of the early stages. Not a bad fragrance, really – almost a thumbs up... (Edit of 16 April 2009 Review) 16 June 2009

Some might say that this is unisex, but to me it smells more like a men's fragrance than a women's fragrance. This smell like men's cologn on me. When I first sprayed Vintage Soul, it smelled like pure pine which lasted for about 20-40 minutes (I felt like I was walking through a field of Christmas trees or if I had sprayed pine on myself). It has a strong patchouli base maybe that is why is smells like men's cologn? A hint of sweetness came after that and the sweetness mixed with the pine scent (not my type of perfume). At the very end, the pine faded and it smelled more feminine with hints of vanilla and citrusy fruits. It's not a bad scent but it does smell like it is better suited for a man thats why it is neutral for me. 18 December 2008

I have a dear niece who is enamoured of Vanilla Fields. Which I loathe and gives me a headache. So....I bought this for her and not only did she like it, so did I. Very nice florals drydown to a very nice lightly musky vanilla. Smells good on her and on me. I liked it well enough to buy some for myself. As with all the Liz Claiborne perfumes, the price is excellent. 10 May 2008

Was intrigued by the name so bought a bottle at a discounter yesterday and love it! I'm disappointed, though, that the lovely scent doesn't linger as I wished it would, and I have the EDP. But when it does, it's rich, pretty, and has me sniffing my wrist (and reapplying) repeatedly! 15 December 2007

Bright fruit and green flowers with a dusty, sharp patchouli base. Dries down to a more mellow vanilla and citrus scent with that "sneezy" note misspring mentions, and which I suspect is the patchouli 29 April 2007

I tried this one and it reminded me of "Christmas Morning" sometime long ago. there is something very evergreen and mysterious and old about it, the name fits. I bought the bottle (and received a free gift set of some blah gunk curve stuff) but hey, the Vintage Soul is nice, and the packaging is too. Not something you'd want to spray on everyday, and a little goes a long long long way. There is something in this that makes a couple of my friends sneeze repeatedly, but they won't have to deal with it too often. The box claims that it is ' A captivating blend of tempting fruits, breezy florals (maybe they meant to say sneezy florals) and sensual vanilla musk.' The box also says 'Pour femme' but several males agreed with me that it was unisex. I'd like to figure out what the notes actually are. 09 November 2006
