The furniture polisher gets called in for a spot of work at the incense store. This sharp, resinous, cedary incense scent has good penetration but is ultimately pretty mundane. Perhaps it might have amounted to something if the articulation of the floral note had been clearer. There are much better frags in the woody incense genre to be bothering with this one. Lasts an hour, tops.

At the beginning it reminds me a bit some watery, slightly incensey and peppery woody fragrances with a prominent cedarwood note and a touch of smoke in the mix and with reference to this stage i smell the similarities with fragrances as Gucci by Gucci Pour Homme and as Gucci Rush for Men (but Un Parfum des Sens et Bois is finally darker, more feminine, floral and subtle) or may be other scents as Cashmere for Men by Cristiano Fissore ( but the The Different Company's one is less smoky and incensey than  the latter). The smell is averagely (and not fully) dry, delicately floral ( violet, gardenia, hydrangea ??), cleverly peppery and sharply woody. The more the time runs the more the fragrance becomes subtle, melancholic and sophisticated. The smell is woodsy of forest and slightly violet as the colour of the bottle. I smell a touch (but just a secret touch) of amber in the dry down. A nice scent, romantic and peaceful but without that  X factor to be a real winner.

A nice concoction of clean cedarwood and peppery-incense with citrus hints on top that strikes as a more refined and smoother version of Gucci Rush For Men or Let Me Play The Lion. Not bad but nowhere close to justify the price tag.

Close to the skin, average lasting power.

UN PARFUM DES SENS ET BOIS could easily have been launched as a member of the Hermès JARDIN series. The dominant opening notes of this streamlined composition are, to my nose, cedar, ginger, and pepper. I smell zero violet and initially only a touch of incense, which however does become somewhat more marked over time, relative to the more dominant opening notes. This is a smooth, pleasing, and subtle fragrance which might well appeal to those who dislike the fruit notes in some members of the JARDIN series.

Although I have nothing particularly against this fragrance, I also don't really find it all that compelling--perhaps it's a bit too understated for me? It's certainly fine, for what it is: a fairly linear, low-key, and slightly spicy woody scent.

Notes: white violet, black papper, ginger, elemi, Chinese cedarwood
This is a great scent, in the gentle woody-spice category. The florals are attractive; soft but not sweet or heavy. The pepper is rendered very accurately and is excellent. The cedar is marvelous, giving the impression of a cedar chest full of spices. At times there is an interesting salty note, like salty skin. Good longevity here. I like this and recommend it. (Note: not to be confused with Miller Harris’ En Sens de Bois which is also very good.)
