The opening is a rather attractive citrus / herbal accord – very much like the openings of countless other modern designer fragrances. It is quite nicely done except that it is unimaginative and common, From the opening, the fragrance goes nowhere. A major problem with Hypnôse is that it doesn’t move. The sharp lavender from the top follows through to the base – and about the only thing that happens is that the lavender grows a little weaker and less sharp and the sweet, generic amber / vanilla from the base comes on stronger. Yawn. It has good sillage, and it has good longevity. Performance wise, Hypnôse Homme is a pretty good fragrance, but it’s structure and notes are so uninspired.

Lavender overwhelms! Not my cup of tea at all, but it does have a cool bottle.

It is a nice fragrance that reminds me of LeMale alhtougg it is a bit sweeter.
Good to wear everyday and I also got some compliments wearing this.
I could be a bit fresher from the start but it makes up for it by staying on my skin quite long.
The only thing I dont like is the twisted bottle. I think it looks feminin and is not an eyecatcher in the bathroom.
If you like sweet, long lasting scents, give it a try!

Hypnose Homme is a pleasantly sweet oriental scent that wears well in warm weather; although in hot and humid conditions it could be cloying.

The topnotes blend well, no one note overpowers the others. On my skin the lavender carries through to the drydown where it is joined by sweet amber and wood notes. Hypnose Homme is long lasting (7-8hours) and has good sillage. Overall this is a good fragrance that is better than many of the mass market designer fragrances.

Every time I go into my favorite department store and there's a new SA who hasn't seen me before greets me, they always, almost always try to push this stuff on me. I never liked it at first sniff and I still don't. I smell it every time and I try to get something out of it. I'm sorry but it smells like one of my other favorites but lighter and Hypnose is more expensive: Paul Smith Extreme. There's nothing special, inticing or great about this. Just a bland scent to get as a gift for people that work in offices.

I tried this recently whilst in Thailand - it did not dissapoint. Lasts a long time on my skin, which I love.

It´s a great fragance a litle oriental,very masculine with a good silage.

1 ml of "joop homme" + 1 ml of "polo double black" + 2 ml of "azzaro now". that's what hypnose is. and beside, it is not cloying like joop, not subtle as polo db and not feminine like azzaro now. perfect for everywhere and every day&night. i think this will be a classic amongst the new ones.

I'm shocked at the reviews that describe Hypnose as cheap smelling.... I can understand not liking it, but it does NOT smell cheap. I don't find it too much like LeMale, either (which I don't like). The heart of lavender, vanilla, and amber are strong and stay throughout the development and into dry down. Catching a whiff of myself as I sit at the office brings thoughts of eating rich chocolate, or perhaps drinking a rich liquor.

I agree with the comment that there are really no 'age groups' for fragrances, but those complex, rich scents are associated with more mature men. Hypnose seems at home on a date to a fancy restaurant and then back to your place and not a college frat.

An eau fraiche version was just released.... If anyone likes Hypnose but finds it too overbearing I'd look in this version. Unlike other fresh versions of colognes, this one really does seem to be just a lighter edition of the original.

EDIT: this is waaaaay better than JPG...I bought a bottle for cheap and I can't get enough. Closer to Lolita Lempicka and just much better. Older and more assured, less 'wannabe'. This is the Le Male for the older, more mature, 'I have good/better taste' crowd.

yet another JPG le male wannabe. It's been 12 years and now some scent houses want to 'redo' le male...i don't get it. Either way much cleaner and sharper than le male...I can't decide if I like this or Zihr Corduroy better.<br>I'll say, if you can't stand JPG le male's unnecessary dirty musk, then try one of the other 2 i mentioned. and if you love le male but don't want to spend the money, then go with 100% Love by s-perfume.

This is an elegant, sensuous scent for a man. Versatile enough for day or evening. I think it's one of the better newer mainstream releases. It's not "cutting edge", but very well balanced and appealing. I'm a fan of Maurice Roucel, and this did not disappoint!

In the store i felt it smelles quite unique and a little sharp to the nose but i liked it. I bought a big bottle at perfumania and once applied to my skin it smelled old and stuffy like an unclean room full of wet towels. Im not totally bagging on the fragrance because i felt it i was nice in the store. It could very well have just be its reaction on my skin that gave it this smell that never did dry down or fade. It lasted awhile so that would be a plus if it smelled nice. Bottom line is you form your own opinion on what you think smells good but just please try it on yourself before buying it as i am now stuck with a 60 dollar paperweight.

Fasten your seatbelts, because Hypnose is in for a rough ride.

This scent would be exquisite, with it's electrifying and vibrant bergamot / mint opening, coupled with a mandarin and cardamom whiff, on a heavy and empowering note of lavender. It would be stunning, with the amber bleeding through the heart of bergamot, and the patchouli flirting with the mint, while the musk accentuates the cardamom and mandarin. It would be a genuine treat; a sense-sizzling, sex-appealing, summer-time snowcone of sugary sweetness, except it's already been done. A lot. Too many times, in fact.

What we have here is a Le Male; a dash short on the synthetic sweetness, only to be accentuated by a fresher accord of spices. Not quite as synthetic and choking as Le Male, but definitely much sharper on the nose, in a very citrus, lemony way. Oh my, what else do we have here... Au Masculin? Yes; void of the licorice and vanilla base, and instead, fond of light woods which allow the top notes to direct the drydown of the scent. Which is strange, considering the pyramid for Au Masculin doesn't resemble the structure of Hypnose (Le Male does, though. They both share bergamot, mint, cardamom, lavender, amber, and a little musk; albeit very synthetic in JPG's rendering).

How then, do we arrive at such a conclusion? The answer is simple; while the top notes of Hypnose are somewhat related to Au Masculin, and the base is not, keep in mind that the top notes control the drydown in a scent where the heart and base are so weak, and the top notes are so strong. With Au Masculin, the progression is noticeable; your cedar and vanilla beat lighter top and heart notes out of the way and demand attention. Even to the heavy-hitting heart notes of violet (stronger than lavender), there is a very noticeable change. However, with Hypnose, the base notes are so weak, that the top notes remain dominant. There is no real progression, until it begins to fade away -- and that's the only real change.

Amidst all of this, I do think there was some creativity involved. Hypnose stands out as a fragrance with a very long-lasting top, which controls the fragrance and drives the heart and base to feed it, rather than eventually settling and being replaced by other scents. I somewhat like it's monotony, because for what it is, it's well done. I would never buy a bottle; the diabetes-inducing sweets aren't my forte, but for someone who likes sweet scents that make Boucheron's Jaipur seem bitter, I recommend this one.

I had rather high expectations from this one, but I was utterly disappointed. This is one of the most common and cheap-smelling fragrances I've ever encountered. There's just nothing special about it, nothing enjoyable, not to mention anything refined or sophisticated. The only positive thing about this fragrance is the bottle, which I have to say is splendid. If you want something really complex and highly sophisticated, go for THE masterpiece of perfumery, Ungaro III (or Ungaro I if you can find it).

just picked this up today, should've got it the first day it came out.THE BOMB!!!! Starts out kind of soft & oriental like & then mellows out with the amber.

I smelt this fragrance three weeks ago and I am definitely going to get one. It has an air of class and maturity. This is definitely my next best fragrance after Terre D'hermes. I don't share the view that it can only be worn by those over 30. It comes down to the level of confidence of the person wearing it.

I have to agree with monkeymanmatt about the way it smells and I also agree with atlanta1 as to the longevity of it and the fact that it’s a light summer oriental fragrance for men.
Lancôme didn’t disappoint me, and I will be looking forward to their next scent for men.

I'm sure this one will become a must have for me when I reach my 40's.
It express serenity,sophistication and shout off a gorgeous subtle sexy aura.
I adore it, but i know that just won't work on me just now. I'll wait then.

I was hoping the replaced, in my opinion, the best men's floral being Lacome's "O'. but, this is more woody than anything else and it's a pretty decent woody scent. It's safe, but, I could wear this but not be in a rush to go out and buy it.

It's a great sophisticated fragrance but definately only beyond 30 or 35. Masculine and mature.

Very sweet and quite sickly at first, although the drydown gets better. On the same line as Ghost Man but more subtle. Not overly impressed.

what a cheap and bad smelling ordinary cologne......keeping in mind that lancome, this really great and famous company launched fragrances like balafre, sikkim,climat, tresor,sagamore etc.hypnose does not let you dream and ask for more....as cuir de russie and bois des iles.....perfumes that have a unique, special and refined smell....hypnose is sharp, loud and dominating and a stinking water.....quickly it starts to nerve and cause nauseas.definitely a no go!

I just bought a bottle of Lancome's new fragrance, Hypnose, this week. I'm quite pleased with it. Sillage is good. Have to admit that I prefer Oriental fragrances on me as they do very well with my body chemistry. This is a light enough Oriental that I feel comfortable wearing it all summer long, even here in the hot, humid southern United States. I'm writing this about 8 hours after putting it on and it's doing quite well. I think it'll fit in quite nicely with my favorite summer fragrance wardrobe revolver that includes Monsieur Givenchy and Guerlain's Vetiver.

Not bad at all. Familiar territory for most of us as this is mainly based on lavender and vanilla. The fragrance opens with a pungent blast of cardamom. Then the lavender does come on very sharp and strong, but eventually mellows out during the long amber/vanilla drydown. Hypnôse Homme is actually a bit reminiscent of Miracle for men as well, which is kind of cool out of a house continuity perspective. If in the mood for a spicy, fresh and potent oriental, then give this one a go. Clive Owen is a cool guy by the way (he´s the "face" for Hypnôse).

Lavender is the sustaining note throughout this fragrance. It is so pervasive I really don't get to enjoy the unique opening notes listed above. Drydown gives the amber/patchouli/musk base a chance to shine. Overall, a slight disappointment remains for not being able to experience those interesting top notes. Maybe lavender is the wrong choice for the heart of this scent...

The smell is sexy, and VERY sophisticated! Woody and a bit spicy, wears VERY easy and it lasted quite a while on me.
