Ferré for Men seems to me to be a cheaper, more synthetic version of Dior Homme. The lipstick is prominent in the opening and it is immediately shadowed by an iris note in the background. There is a pineapple note in the mix, too, which is a small departure from DH. These notes do not come up to the quality of DH either in quality or the lasting ability of the notes. It gets a little floral in the heart notes – a mixed bouquet of smooth floral notes, and I think these florals are done quite nicely. The pyramid lists a lot of different notes for the drydown but I chiefly get a vetiver / oakmoss accord supported somewhat by tonka. Ferré for Men has a light sillage, a synthetic feel, and a nice development. It’s not greatly impressive, but it’s still a nice fragrance.

For about the first hour or more, this is very similar to Rochas Man (admittedly a strange comparison - maybe it's the lavender/bergamot combo?), the main differences being the absence of RM's prominent mocha note and the inclusion of some note or collection of notes that registers to me only as "waxiness" (others have described it as lipsticky - the iris I suppose). This strange waxiness disappears on my skin during dry-down, leaving behind a smooth veneer of florals set against musk, vanilla, and tonka bean. At this point, I could compare Ferre to Dunhill and even Armani Code, both of which have similar bases.

All told, this is a fairly average scent, and it should be OK for use in all but the heat of summer. Sillage and longevity are medium, and you will certainly not offend anyone - you may even get a few compliments. However, the fragrance is just a tad too familiar to me; I've smelled this type of scent too many times before, and it's played out. Having said that, I have to rate it as "neutral."

Sublime. It smells like "The Dreamer" in a way, but much more sophisticated and substantial. Whenever I wear this beauty, I am constantly smelling my wrist to take in more of its delightful bouquet. A saleswoman brought this one to my attention, and I am so grateful she did. A stunningly gorgeous cohesion of all of its notes. Definitely recommended.

Though not groundbreaking, Ferre for Him is a subtle scent based on iris (supposedly "black iris"). Granted, I would wear iris scents almost daily and spritz them on the dogs if my family would let me, but there is a difference between poorly and well-executed iris and this one is nicely done. The top notes open with a fresh and slightly green note and give way to a fairly classical heart of iris flower, rose, jasmine, geranium, orange blossom etc. The base is what gives it a powdery feel and perhaps what some are describing as lipstick. There are a lot of heavy notes in there: vanilla, tonka beans, woods, musk and amber. Despite this, the scent remains soft and very light.

I wear it frequently and I love it on my teenage son. I don't think that it is the right fragrance for my husband, who demands more of a powerhouse scent. Nevertheless, if he wore it, I think I would still like it.

Kaern adn GeorgeBernard are very much on point. I will add that it smells quite a lot like Dunhill by Alfred Dunhill, which smells like Davidoff Goodlife plus D&G ph. Ferre is very subtle and nice...likeable too. I give it a neutral because it makes a light frag very likeable. If it was stronger it would be a plus.

Oh ho ho ho, u could say what a feeble brain I have as I am not a genius about fragrance, but to be honest the whole fragrance accord is all wrong, to me, it's just way, way too waxy! I don't know what could be the whole idea in creating this fragrance, but again. Never mind of what scents have been incorporated in the bottle, the fragrance accord should be listed like this:

Top:
'Kiss Me Red' Lipstick + 'Toxic Free' Crayon
Heart:
Any 'Avon' Lipstick That You Can Buy + Yardley English Rose Talcum Powder
Base:
Just Another Lipstick + Generic Vanilla Scented Candle

Anyway, salute to the perfumer for being bold enough to offer such an overdose waxy fragrance, plus the bottle is just great, and I love the design of the cap. However, since we are talking about fragrance here, the scent is absolutely a downright crime.

Agreed with Sir Slantry... IMO this frag is best described as liquid lipstick in a bottle, the initial burst is lipstick+crayon-like scent till the end. Very rare and quite unsual. Just like Dior Homme, but this one is more intense. The bottle is great, but not the frag. Regardless of the long listing of the notes accord, the pyramid notes should be like this:

top : kiss me red lipstick,
heart: half-used lipstick
base: grandma's lipstick

If you want to smell like lipstick that's been left on another man's suit collar, this is for you. Must be the iris notes in the over-saturated note pyramid listed here. It has this waxy, chalky feeling to it like some cosmetics.

Though to be fair, the women seem to really dig this one but I swear this smells like lipstick!

What's not in here? Why, there's something for everyone if the triangle (a pyramid is 3-D) is to be believed. This being my very first fragrance review ever, I feel I should say something witty. Or at least pithy. You know, maybe mention which notes really strike me from each of the tiers.

I think I'll just leave it at this: This one smells grand. And I feel perfectly justified in passing such a judgment as I've tried 320+ fragrances over the past week alone. I do notice a powdery tonka quality that's quite unlike anything else, but you didn't hear it from me.

It's not groundbreaking or anything and is slightly generic, but not in a pushy, in your face way. This normally would raise alarm bells for me, but the fact is, for some reason -- I love it.

Everytime my husband wear's this I think, what's this great perfume? It's very fresh and still warm, not overwhelming and has a great lasting power.

I recently bought the Ferre for Him aftershave and it already has become my favourite. IMO, it's high class stuff. It's a very modest fragrance, doesn't shout out its smell, but accompanies you for hours, in a silent way.
The opening is fresh and soft. It develops into a flowery, slightly sweet (just a little bit powdery) smell. Every element in this fragrance is subtle. It could work as a unisex scent, as said before, but is definitely designed 'for him'.
If you like strong, powerful scents, you should pass this one. If you feel more comfortable wearing softer scents that will please yourself and only the ones close to you, you should give Ferre for Him a try. Not to forget: the bottle is simply perfect.

I like it better than the version for women. I wear it often. It works as a unisex scent.

The description of this fragrance accord sounds right up my alley. I'm definitely looking forward to trying this new entry from Gianfranco
