Hugo XX (2007)

Predictable, pleasant but boring, Hugo XX won't be getting any rave reviews from me.

This fragrance is so light that it takes a lot of sniffing and inhaling to even be able to describe what it smells like.

Hugo XX has quite a simple opening with blackcurrant being its most dominant note. It's fruity yet it lacks that fruity punch which would've given this scent more character.

The heart is just as bland and boring as its opening, with the jasmine and rose creating a scent which has been done and re-done many times before. The floral combination is soft and pretty, yet it has that all-to-familiar soapy quality which I really dislike.

I never got to the drydown because this fragrance disappeared in only 30 minutes. It's possibly the worst lasting scent I've come across so far. I don't recommend this fragrance unless you like to be ordinary.

A lovely oriental type scent. Its probably directed towards evening wear but its a scent I would wear in the office, but you only need a couple of sprays. Has the distinctive smell of a Hugo Boss perfume but its lovely.

I'm not too terribly good at disecting the different smells in perfumes, but I enjoy them regardless. This one is definitely a younger, sweeter scent. It is something I wear in the evening, especially when I'm going out dressed up in more than just jeans and a t-shirt. It is a little strong, so I wouldn't recommend it when you know you're going to be sweating or when you'll be locked in a car a few minutes after application. It needs about fifteen to twenty minutes to calm down enough for small spaces. Also, unlike foetidus, who has also reviewed this, I don't notice a strong alcohol scent.

Easily identifiable as a Hugo Boss creation: This one doesn’t even seem to make an attempt to cover up its genericness… XX flaunts its mediocrity with boldness. It opens loud: alcoholy and too, too sweetly, thinly fruity. The basmati rice is a good idea: It provides substance and neutrality, and it performs well in its assigned place. The florals – jasmine and rose are as ordinary as they would be in any drugstore scent. The base is sweet and contemplates “good” but in the end decides not to go in that direction. On the whole this is another ho hum assembly line fragrance. It has good sillage and decent longevity.
