Like a rabid dog trying to break loose from its chain, Mazzolari Lui goes for the throat, foaming at the mouth with teeth bared, right out of the bottle. That dog just wants to take a bite out of you - growling, snorting, he's so close you can see and smell its breath. This is Mazzolari Lui - perfumery's rawest and most dangerous example of animalic testosterone in a bottle. This is like raw hide just ripped off an animal's body, left next to a smouldering fire for hours, allowing the animal's blood, sweat and body oils to dry, And finally, to prevent insects from making a meal out of that flesh, the whole thing is wrapped in patchouli leaves, just as the ancient silk traders used to do centuries ago with the fabric they brought back home from the East. Mazzolari Lui is dark, filthy, manly, exotic, spicy, exciting and just plain dangerous.

Looking for the most virile scent on earth? Your search is over.

Beautiful and long lasting scent. Patchouli prominent but definitely not 1970's style. Lui is on the sweet side, maybe leaning that way just a hair too much.

This scent doesn't "evolve" as much as it "settles down" after 20 minutes. I found it became sensually smoky after the opening accord gives way and this facet of the fragrance is like a halo around the patchouli, amber and spice.

Longevity is not a problem here folks. This Italian stallion has stamina in reserve. Beautifully done, albeit just a tad too sweet for me to wear except on the coldest of days. This is a winner in almost every way.

Mazzolari Lui: wow! this ones a cracking slap for someone looking for animalic scents with leather/patchouli/cedar(pencil shavings) combination. Lui smells like a dusty leather/fur coat scented with aged patchouli, notes of cedar (pencil shavings) and was probably left near a campfire. extremely classy and would really shine thru during winters. the smell is something that could be distantly related to Gucci Ph(for reference...ohh but this is wayyyy mor than that). The treatment of patchouli is quite tempered, never taking the front stage so is the way the smoked cedar has been treated. the basenotes exude earthy notes of vetiver and sandalwood with hints of patch. it's smoky, dusty(in a very attic kind of way), animalic and mysterious to say the least.

This is one elegant werewolf of a scent. I can only add my praise to what vibert, foetidus, and joe_frances have described in such vivid detail - and even the ad copy gets it right on this one, when it speaks of savagery robed in refinement. There is that rich purple brocade of mature patchouli on the verge of decaying decadence, the smell of polished leather saddle with sweet stable aromas in the back and there is a musky sledgehammer which I find could have been toned down just a bit, as its syntheticness can overwhelm the bountiful naturals here, which have been so ably amplified, and which rudely pushes aside the spicy and floral complements that round this composition off so well. Thankfully this effect is more noticeable on paper than on skin, where the musk blends in better and Lui works true wonders. Slip into your bespoke tuxedo, lead the pack, howl at the moon and fascinate the ladies.

Lui has a fair bit of patchouli, sandalwood and above all a strong base of amber. If I had to compare it to another niche frag I'd say it's a warmer, less herbal version of Parfum d'Habit. But it almost seems like Givenchy Gentleman, minus the civet and dressed up. If GG is a bong smoking hippie, this is his refined brother who wears bespoke suits and goes to black tie events.

It took me a couple wearings to "get it," but I'm glad I stuck with it. Thumbs up, A+, looks like I'll be buying this one. If you like masculine frags, this one is a must-try.

Heavy dry sweet (amber) oriental patchouli. This is animalic and dirty. This beautiful scent needs to be worn with confidence and charisma. Two things I lack but I can appreciate the fact that others are and can enjoy this scent to the fullest.

What a truly incredible fragrance.

It is bold, unique and has incredible longevity.

My wife and I fell asleep by the fire and she commented on how the heat brought out and enhanced the fragrance (I had been wearing it for 10+ hrs at this point)

I applied with my usual 5 -6 sprays and it did not overwhelm (a bit strong initially but my skin eats fragrances).

Mazzolari Lui has an intriguing motor oil and dirty rags element that reminds me of a workshop, yet it co-mingles this with the subtle sweetness of what I think of as great bourbon, which gives it an overall accord that is deep, dark, unique and wonderfully masculine. It is almost impossible to pin this fragrance down as to what it is, or how or when one might wear it. In the final analysis, this thing of picking and wearing fragrances is a very personal business, and if you like bold and dark fragrances you will love this. At first I thought it was for casual wear. Then I tried it in a light application in winter with my favorite suit, and it was truly excellent. I could see Clark Gable or Robert Mitchum wearing this. Also, strangely enough, Dirk Bogarde. Figure that out if you can. If you love Givenchy Gentleman, but like me have trouble conceiving it as something to actually wear in public, I think Mazzolari Lui lightly applied would be a terrific choice. Of course, I would recommend you wear it first in a small gathering of friends who will tell you the truth. You'll want to know if you can pull this off. Odds are you will. Rare; expensive; impossible to describe fully: yes, yes, and yes. Great? Answer: profoundly great. We may have missed out on Patou Pour Homme, but this is still in production so no need to sigh and wish. And no excuses! You can get your hands on this.

Potent and animalic, raw and dry, Mazzolari Lui is a rare one. Its robust opening is an aromatic hammer to the head…a potent brew. To my nose Lui is strongly centered around patchouli – a rich full, dark, even resinous patchouli accord…nearing animalic. The patchouli is supported by woods, vetiver, spices, and ambergris, with the ambergris being the dominant of the support group. This particular ambergris is not the sweet, golden version; this one is dry, resinous, and extremely masculine. Others mentioned leather, but I don’t get very much leather. Lui is powerful and raw, and I find the musk providing a strong animalism. I even get a sort of fecal note sporadically rippling through the middle accord. The sillage at first is strong but after a while it regulates itself to the point where it might not have as much sillage as I would like. Longevity is no problem in that Lui seems to last forever as a rich, intriguing skin scent. When I first smelled Mazzolari Vetiver it jumped to the top of the list of my favorite vetivers. Now that I’ve smelled Mazzolari Lui it’s déjà vu all over again: I’ve found a favorite patchouli.

A beautiful dark young man, big-shouldered and athletic, looking charmingly out of place in his tailored Italian suit. He tucks his hair behind his ear absently and you notice that he has mandalas on his palms. This is about patchouli--big, earthy patchouli that would follow you home still talking about forests and the rich earth of its mother's garden after a rainfall--were it not bounded by the slight formality of leather and spice.

“Blockbuster” doesn’t do this scent justice. “Ballbuster” is more like it. Mazzolari Lui is a sock in the jaw, delivered effortlessly by a guy sporting dark sunglasses and two days’ worth of carefully cultivated stubble. It’s muscular leather, bold woods, tobacco, and a hint of smoke, all swirling around a core of blazing, animalic patchouli strong enough to put hair on Fabio’s chest. Even the powdery woods in the drydown have external genitalia. A healthy dose of sharp, aromatic lavender contributes a touch of the barbershop (which is where the house of Mazzolari started), but this barber’s place is full of hulking Mafiosi with 45s in their ankle holsters and stilettos up their sleeves. These aren’t the loutish guys with heavy Brooklyn accents – no, they’re well dressed and elegant, with all of their brutality concealed beneath their custom tailored suits.

With all of its steroids and testosterone, Mazzolari Lui out-Antaeuses Antaeus, knees Bois du Portugal in the nuts, and eats Parfum d’Habit for breakfast. It’s not the animalic brew of civet, castoreum, and costus root you’ll find in Muscs Koublai Khan either: it’s nowhere near that “pretty” or seductive. Nor is it as stark and dry as Yatagan, even if it’s just as bold. No, this one is very much its own animal, and that animal is male. Mazzolari Lui is a masterpiece, no doubt, but I haven’t found the circumstances under which I’d wear it. If you do, just make sure to use it very sparingly. The sillage and projection are both nuclear, and though the stuff smells great, two full sprays of it are probably enough to empty the room.
