A trendy scent and I don't mean it in a good way. Ambery sweet with a hint of spice, like twenty other scents I've sampled this year alone. And what leather are they talking about? To claim that there is 'leather' when none exists is indeed a brave thing to do. Unless my nose fails me, I suspect someone probably screwed up and forgot to include it in the brief to the perfumer. Like I said, this is an extraordinary scent. Extraordinarily common. Only the brave would laugh in the face of trends and walk his path alone if necessary. Only the brave would pick this tacky bottle up and calls it 'original'...and 'bravely' joins the ranks of 'only the inexperienced', 'only the deluded', well...you get the drift. While this is not a bad scent, ONLY THE BRAVE ventures into safe, well known territory and that also-ran attitude has little in common with the word 'brave'. I guess the guys at Diesel must have an oddly wicked sense of humor. Now if only one particular finger in the bottle fist-design sticks out...that would have been brave. 17 September 2009

Young, playful scent. Starts off similar to Versace Pour Homme, but the opening citruses aren't nearly as sharp (which is a good thing in my opinion). As it dries down it becomes a totally different animal, leaving you with a sweet leathery amber lightly accented with woods and spices. Hardly ground-breaking, but pleasant nonetheless. 13 August 2009

mmm this one is strange, admittedly it smells much better on the skin then in the bottle, but I'm sure its a mediocre fragrance that smells similar to many department fragrances at the moment. It gives you a pleasant smell but nothing to really shout about. It has a strange weak watermelon note that gives it an airy feel but other than that-its ok 06 August 2009

A really unique bottle, but I just can't get past the feeling that this is too powdery and feminine for me. 06 August 2009

There really isn't a great deal to Only the Brave, and what there is, is pretty ordinary. An unsatisfying, vaguely citrus opening gives this a poor start from which it never truly recovers. It hastens to a cedar and amber dry down that won't remain in anyones memory for very long. Whereas "Fuel For Life" is vivacious, bouncy and lots of fun, this is dour and miserable. 04 August 2009

Well I have to disagree with the synthetic smell. I do agree it's not exactly crammed full of the best quality natural essences but I dont think its comes off as synthetic. Maybe this is because I have been testing so many pure chemical bottles of crap recently (Lacost Challange being one, VERY Challanging on the nose!) I think this is fun and perky, not terribly teenage smelling to be honest but certainly one of the better generic designer releases this year! Tacky as it may be, I actually rather like the bottle! lol. Feels really nice in your hand too (although I do have HUGE hands!) 25 July 2009

Synthetic, cloying, and wholly uninteresting, I'd heard about "the new Diesel that looks like a fist." I find the whole concept poorly executed, from package design (silly block fonts...looks like something a high schooler would make) to this rediculous fist to the scent therein, this is a mass market fragrance designed to appeal to meatheads and frat-boys and the girls who love them. I'm so disappointed my current favorite male wanted this; perhaps he hadn't had a chance to smell the watery, synthetic lemon and cedarwood blend before making that claim. The lemon and leather smell horribly synethetic and don't do each other any justice. Add in the amber base and you have a long-lasting plasticy scent with medium throw in an ugly bottle that should not be worn by anyone over 23. Horrid. 23 July 2009

I haven't learned how to distinguish notes yet, but I know what I like and don't like. I am currently looking for a summer scent and was shopping around sephora today and tested Only the Brave. As has already been mentioned, this scent has been done before many times, it has that light sweet fruity scent and dries down to resembles Hugo by Hugo Boss. This isn't anything special, and the bottle is a bit tacky as well. 28 June 2009

I tried this several times to confirm that my initial impression was not a fluke, but every time I had the same result, Only the Brave dried down to a sweet and powdery mess. They will probably sell a ton of these just because of the bottle, but I would recommend you pass on this one. 20 June 2009

The scent itself is not that bad actualy and more original than Fuel for Life. When that first anoying fruity start goes away ,the drydown is more than ok. The bottle design doesnīt suit my taste, but at the same time I like the blue color of the glass. Diesel is a brand famous for itīs ugly but original bottles and there are boring bottles enough in the world. The fragrance reminded me of the discontinued Hugo Boss Elements Acqua (blue bottle) which brings back some (good) memories. With that in mind, and compared to recent designer releases a small thumbs up. 20 June 2009

Well, from what I got I liked it. A fresh, sweet amber and cedarwood. It felt so generic. I tested this out quite a few times. Nothing as groundbreaking as the uber-tacky bottle. I have a bottle of Chopard Homme and it's fresher but has that same cedarwood and musk/amber base that's in like everything that's new. So in all, I like it but it's the same ol' same ol' fresh n' sweet junk that's already out there. 15 June 2009

Pleasant, but nothing really brave here. Springy & flowery type of scent. 11 June 2009

I shouldn't be too hard on the name as it's linked to a charity Diesel are involved with. However, it needs saying that you wouldn't need any bravery to wear this rather ordinary fragrance -- it's also not that atrocious to wear to be deemed brave to do so. The bottle is in the shape of a sideways fist with fingerholds -- so i would say pretty much aimed at the youth market. It opens with a lemony leather blast which I quite liked --- I'm talking 60 seconds at the most though -- it then evolves into some godawful 'fresh' notes, finishing with a cedary amber mix. The sillage and longevity are just too much -- I actually had a job getting it off me. Apparently it took three 'noses' to create this -- I reckon they argued a lot and gave up halfway through. I find the bottle, the fragrance, the whole concept laughable and a bit grim at the same time. This will sell alright though, which is the bottom line for houses like this. 08 June 2009

Got a free sample while passing a perfume store, to promote the fragrance. As there were no reviews yet, I thought I'd give it a shot. That, and the name sounds so cool. At first this perfume smelled very soapy and powdery, and was very reminiscent of some truly classical mens aftershaves, but a lighter, less overwhelming version. VERY agreable. It reminded me of my father, who, after shaving, would wash his whole face with green soap and a lot of water. It always smelled very fresh, clean and sophisticated, without trying to hard or sending a message other than: "I take good care of myself". I started to tryly appreciate this fragrance, and then... Disaster. It dried down to the most sweet, stifling, sickening, headache inducing olfactory choke-hold imaginable. Think Diesel Plus Plus with green soap added. It was like being suffocated by having your head stuck in a giant marshmallow. To endure something like that willingly, bravery (or stupidity, it's a fine line) is a necessity. 07 June 2009

A warm, modern, "purple" version of polo sport. Strong, bold, fresh, but not aquatic by any means. Even with surprisingly weak silage, its comes off as too strong, which is unusual combo that I haven't really seen before. It certainly tries to be a lady killer in the same way that Victoria secret's "very sexy" does. Its original but its not. Great for high school. 05 June 2009

A Warm Uplifting Fragrance With A Hint Of Sweetness (I Want To Say Carmel But Not Sure. Maybe It's Amber Or White Amber, I Dunno) That Has A Creamy Effect Similar To Dolce & Gabbana The One. I Can Smell Leather In It Too. I Give The Sillage A 5/5 Because When I Spray Cologne On The Back Of My Hand It Doesn't Last Too Long. I Sprayed This On At 11:30 a.m. & It Is Now 10 Minutes To 2. The Rep Said It's Great For Summer Wear And I Agree. It's The Type Of Cologne That Makes You Want To Be Hugged Up On. 30 May 2009

Tried this at a local store. very pleasant, mildly green and sweet. definitely daytime and summer. application will require several sprays, and is of less longevity than D&G The One. on me, anyhow. 26 May 2009

I tested this fragrance and I immediately found a similarity with another fragrance that I couldn't quite put my finger on at first. After a couple minutes of contemplation, I realized that this smelled very similar to Chanel Allure Homme Sport...almost identical. Its a decent fragrance, but I wouldn't want to add such a similar fragrance to my collection when I already have a better one anyways. Nothing unique about this frag. 17 May 2009

it is a very pleasant dark scent that i almost bought but then when it quickly wore off after 15-20 minutes it completely changed my mind because it wears off to a work out sweat and a soft vanilla musk after not too long. overall it is nuetral because the beggining is good and then wears down to armpit and soft vanilla musk so if you only care about the beggining and longetivity is not a problem with you then you should buy it. 04 May 2009

I was so excited for this fragrance because I love the bottle, but what a disappointment! It's basically just another bland aquatic scent, although maybe a little bit more powdery that most others. There's nothing unique or striking about it. It succeeds as a fragrance simply because it smells nice, but there's no depth or artistry to this cologne. It's decent, but there are much better options out there. 21 April 2009
