Dry Oil fragrance notes

Reviews of Dry Oil

A solid 6-7/10 fragrance. Managed to grab an EDC bottle at a department store sale, as I heard a few good things. It's also now discontinued by Superdry, so thought it warranted a blind-buy.

The opening is a definite metallic / engine-y oil type of smell, which sounds ridiculous but in context of a fragrance, it's an interesting effect (memories of my grandfather's garage and motorbike come to mind from this).

The drydown is much cosier, warmer and sweeter, with a definite vanilla note and slightly oriental and musk effect going on underneath. Almost as a more masculine parallel to Gaultier's 'Classique' for women. My main issue is the projection which seems to be lacking (although I haven't fully tested with a full wear yet) and is the central reason this didn't score higher.

I think this could be a borderline work scent (it doesn't kick like a mule), but mainly a night-time social scent (though the power might not cut through as much as you'd hope). Probably most ideal for cosy, romantic situations based on smell vs. projection.

Overall, it's a good sale buy if discounted, though I wouldn't break the bank trying to grab this just because it's discontinued. However, current prices are reasonable. If you like the effect of vanilla-on-metal (it works much better than it sounds), then grab a bottle.
