Reviews of Versilia Platinum

It's fun, I almost never agree with drseid's reviews (both for his tastes and often his descriptions as well), but this time I think his review, contrary to the others, perfectly describes this scent. I can't really add anything to it as it reflects my experience as well - strong metallic cedar with fruity peppery nuances and a lemon-y incense vibe on the drydown, exactly creating an (I quote) "acid-like" scent. Spot-on. And above all, to me as well this smells unmistakably and very strongly metallic, so I guess that the fact that we seem to perceive this quality very clearly and others don't, may be due to a difference among batches. Well anyway it's not a bad scent, actually it's quite nice. It's a sharp, complex but overall well-enginereed take on cedar, quite contemporary but richer and more natural than most "modern" woods (i.e, Comme des Garçons). Quite sharp and sour but quite enjoyable as well.

Strong scent but very likeable. Most definitely related to terre d'hermes which for me comes as a recommendation. Well done and lasting

Metallic note -- where? . I have alluded to this fragrance before in a postscript some months ago now and it is still very much in rotation. A lush woody vetiver with traces of immortelle and incense which gives this a beautiful ambery vibe. A real showstopper of a scent that I will never get bored with.

I've to strongly (yet very respectfully) disagree with what previously said by Drseid. To my nose, Versilia Platinum is anything but metallic. I don't know what may conjure the image of metal here (no calone, no marine/aquatic notes, no milky undertones whatsoever) but, whatever may be, I don't get it.

Versilia Platinum is a bold, sort of severe, woody-resinous fragrance that opens with an extremely efemeral green-citrusy accord (bergamot and grapefruit). Incense takes over right away joined by a considerable amount of powerful cedarwood. In this phase there's an overall peppery quality that drives the fragrance towards a modern territory while some floral patterns add great complexity and preserve Platinum from becoming the typical woody citrus.

The drydown is extremely deep and intense with woods galore and incense joined by a remarkable immortelle/vetiver accord adding even more body and just a tad of sweetness to what could have otherwise been an extremely sharp fragrance. The fragrance's evolution ends at 8hrs mark with a close to the skin yet incredibly increddibly noticeable immortelle note that's simply beautiful. Modern? Yes, most definitely but at the same time you shouldn't expect something a-là Comme Des Garcons or Etat Libre D'Orange. This is more like a better refined and natural smelling version of Escentric 01 (not Molecule 01) Challenging? Maybe. The strong cedarwood together with a massive frankincense presence and the immortelle won't surely appeal to anyone and may, in ceratin cases, bring to mind of woody amber.

Despite being often marketed as feminine, I would definitely classify this as an intense masculine that will appeal to anyone into bold and distinctive woody fragrances.

Versilia Platinum is a tough fragrance to like. It opens with a sharp almost metallic-like accord that appears to be a combination of black and pink pepper with extremely sour grapefruit notes. Cedar then combines with this metallic accord, creating the very edgy, sharp and almost acid-like scent heart. The metallic accord does tone down a bit later on, mixing with lemon smelling frankincense in the base notes, but it still is ever present, making for a unique albeit bizarre combination. Sillage and longevity are both above average.

I give Profumi del Forte some credit for its innovation here, but I find it difficult thinking of anytime, anyplace or anyone who would want to wear this on a regular basis. It is a very challenging woody scent for sure. It also is a relatively expensive scent at $280 for 100ml. Tough sell for me at that price, or even half... I will be generous and give it a neutral strictly for its distinctiveness, not its wear-ability. Not recommended, except to people who really want a super-challenging metallic woody scent. 2 to 2.5 stars out of 5.
