A really nice bay rum. To be honest, I don't really smell the grapefruit. Instead, the whole thing has a pleasant citric brightness. One of my complaints with a lot of bay rums is that many of them have a weird fusty murky opening that you have to wait through to get to the good part. St Johns with Grapefruit completely fixes this problem with the brightness and smells fantastic from the first application.
I suppose anyone reading reviews for obscure bay rums already knows what they smell like - that mix of cloves and bay tree leaf that come together to smell sort of like highly-spiced tea, simultaneously old fashioned and surprisingly modern. What this has that's interesting is a sort of apple quality, so it reminds me of mulled apple cider, the kind with cloves and cinnamon and stuff steeped in it. But instead of smelling warm and comforting like something holiday-related, it actually smells refreshing and cool and perfect for spring.
Highly recommended for bay rum fans, as well as anyone looking for a masculine apple scent (I can't be the only one...)
