Casamorati 1888 Mefisto fragrance notes

Reviews of Casamorati 1888 Mefisto

Xerjoff Mefisto has a strong reputation and in trying it today, I can understand why. Its blend and note breakdown are excellently arranged to create a balanced, enjoyable freshie.

First, the opening of mixed citrus (lemon, bergamot, grapefruit) is great, and grapefruit and bergamot in particular vary from one another enough to create a sort of general citrus vibe that's enjoyable while not being overwhelming.

Next, the heart of mixed florals, perhaps the three greatest floral notes, in rose, iris, and lavender. It too is fresh, but also sharp and deep and nuanced.

Finally, the base of amber, sandalwood, cedar, and musk, is soft, warm bed for the fragrance to rest on after drying down, the amber and musk adding some sweetness to contrast the citrus and floral opening and heart, respectively.

This is a near-perfect formula for a winning fresh fragrance: variant citrus and floral notes with just enough woodsy and whim while still being on-target and not too quirky to be universally enjoyable. Still, somehow, though, it feels sophisticated and not so commonplace to be regarded as boring or generic.

Mefisto's main pitfall, at least on my skin, is its performance, which seems to be moderate (at best) in terms of both projection and longevity. Apparently the consensus is somewhat more favorable.

Only with respect to performance, then, is Mefisto a tough sell. Even its discounted pricing ($238 for 100ml on FragranceX) is a tough sell, let alone the retail ($290 for 100ml on Luckyscent), but surely there are deals and decants to be had.

In conclusion, it's a superlative freshie, held back only by its performance on my skin, but hopefully it does better on yours.

Yup, I agree with so many reviewers here at basenotes and elsewhere that Casamorati 1888 Mefisto does bear a strong resemblance to Creed's Silver Mountain Water, yet it retains its own identity so as not to be an unwitting total clone to SMW.

No harsh metallic note in Mefisto (a near-deal breaker for me with SMW, which I otherwise enjoy UNTIL that note rears its ugly scent). Casamorati's bespoke scent prjoects very nicely, has a quality-made feel to the ingredients used plus the mixing process, and it's an aromatic citrus woody scent that is suitable for near middle-aged to older wearers.

Beholding my bottle of Xerjoff, I know I am holding a scent of great craftmanship and uncompromised standards. It is a lesser-known uber-niche brand, but it's just as credible a brand to explore as Creed, Clive Christian, and others.

Big confident feel good thumbs up for this! :-)

very similar to SMW but , to my nose , much better...more robust and leaning toward the yang/dark side , which I like...SMW is more airy/metallic/aquatic...perfect blend of citrus/flower/wood...a lot better longevity and projection also...smells solid and well blended and put together...

Probably one of the best Fresh scents out there. Amazing juice. I can see the comparison to SMW but in my opinion there are a few noticeable differences The rose/floral notes take it in a slightly different direction than SMW. Longevity and projection are pretty awesome. I get 12 hours with 6 hours of excellent projection. Very classy and upmarket.

A scent that compliments your own elegant sense of style.Mefisto is harmonious with urban edge and immediate charm.reminds me of creed SMW but less friendly and more lacks the metallic sweetness.a really nice blend of citrus, lavender and iris that is very positive and clear.young but the basis is a little heavy for teens.simply beautiful and mysterious at the same other words: Unisex, Woody,Charismatic,Enjoyable,Elegant,Refined, Smooth,Aromatic and Refreshing.

The fragrance is a fresh and positive composition with incisive, citrusy top notes of lemon, grapefruit and bergamot.the heart unfolds with elegant iris and aromatic lavender while the base notes has been consistent light balance between woody(sandalwood and cedar)and musk provides a unisex signature.the scent is masculine but definitely unisex.the opening note smelled synthetic to me.perfect for warm spring and hot summer days.a good choice for a date or if you wanna feel pretty and innocent.great for niche beginners.

Longevity?+6 hours on my skin.

A substantial citrus fragrance with a strong floral heart and warm woody base.

The quality of the ingredients really shine through with this one. It is absolutely refined and has a superb clarity about it. The citrus opening is fantastic - ripe, juicy and invigorating fruits - and is supported by uplifting Lavender, before the Iris arrives to add a lovely elegance to proceedings.

Performance is also impressive and of all the fragrances I own, it is my wife's favourite.
