Reviews of Le Poivre Rose

This is a lovely scent. The notes listed are very similar to Raison Pure, yet the two scents are quite different.
This does not have the minty-herbal aspect of RP. Rather, it develops the dry pepper, wood and incense notes. It suggests scrubby hills with wood and earth tones. It is more subtle than RP, and does not last quite as long. But the character is very classy and pleasing. I can particularly pick out a nice nutmeg note.
Update -- the clary sage is very well done. The scent can be re-applied several times during the day. It has a lovely, subtle incense note in the dry-down.

LE POIVRE ROSE - Notes are: Clary Sage, pink pepper, nutmeg, incense, cedar. At first sniff you smell the pine of clary sage and the pleasant spice of pink pepper which is soft and recessive in nature. Nutmeg with incense and cedar reinforce the mild wood aspects of this fragrance and that is what you get with it. I like this calm but invigorating woods approach. This fragrance is renewing and uplifting because pink pepper has that quality to it. It is also mild and polite in manners, not imposing at all. LE ROSE POIVRE refers to pink pepper - for carification, there is no rose in this scent and really no pepper either, so the name rose pepper is slightly deceptive. I like the smell of this fragrance quite a bit for how well it compliments my own persona but not necesarily for its creative brilliance. The fragrance does not stand out, but is a solid pleasantness. It has low projection and is not especially long lasting, but I got 5 or 6 hours and it always has a good thing to say. One of the better scents from L' Antichambre.

Le Poivre Rose opens with a gentle spray of pink pepper that remains well into the heart phase. Later in the heart the pepper is joined by a faint but slowly growing cedar as support. As the fragrance enters the late dry-down the pepper fades to a just detectable level, as the cedar takes the fore though never prominent. Projection is below average, and so is longevity at 6-7 hours on skin.

Le Poivre Rose is pink pepper over subtle cedar wood minimalist composition all the way. The scent profile is quite linear and rather restrained from start to finish. I love pepper and cedar for sure, but am more than a bit disappointed in this release from L'Antichambre despite it delivering on its featured note, as there really is not much more to the composition and published notes like the frankincense and clary sage apparently are so minimally implemented that I can't detect them at all. Quite frankly, even the listed cedar that *is* present is not very prominent, with the gentle pink pepper the obvious sole focus. With many less expensive (and dare I say more interesting) spicy/woody compositions featuring pepper on the market (Tzora by Anat Fritz for one) I find it hard to recommend Le Poivre Rose at its relatively lofty $170 for 50ml price tag. The bottom line is this 3 star out of 5 rated release smells good, but offers a poor value compared to others that smell better for less.
