Reviews of Oud Assam

Beautiful Hindi Barnyard opening to reveal a mille fieulles
of Varnishes and some fruit of Thai. The Barn and tinge of Cheese add an aromatic counter to the Thai whiskey.
Pepper adds some bit of dustiness and a nice quality Frankincense bites through the cloy that can exist with the Tonka-ed Musk.

Dreadful, punishing opening - for people unfamiliar with oud fragrances, I can imagine it being shocking, or even smelling like a gag perfume. It softens considerably as it develops, with the oud note partly burning off and partly blending in.

I'm giving a thumbs-up b/c I LOVE animalic oud and nobody does it. Having said that, This is animalic and band-aid oud. I've experienced several types of oud. Band-aid smells exactly like a new bandage, animalic smells like a farm, Urinal cake smells like those pink urinal cakes in truck stop bathrooms. This one was sour animalic and bandaid at opening. It quickly dries down to less sour and more bandaid. It is smooth and rich after about 3 minutes.

Stardate 20170707:

A very good oud fragrance. Challenging and animalic but not very barnyardy.
As others have mentioned, this is a good introduction to ouds. The paradox - why this cheesy smelly thing is so intoxicating, is easier to understand here.
Oud becomes muted as it enters drydown and tonka and pepper show up in a nice menage-a-trois .

Cheesy, funky, animalic oud. In the worst possible way.

Oud Restroom. Please avoid.

Lol.... A fresh cheesy citrus like barnyard smell assaults you on the opening. The oud does smell real and not synthetic even though it is hard to like. Smelling this in a western fragrance is kind of strange and you cannot help been repelled a bit by the smell.

After a while the cheesy barnyard aspect dies down and a cedar and vetiver note appears helping take the edge off the unpleasant aspect of the oud.

Eventually the scent transforms into a fresh woody and incense dominated oud fragrance making the scent more bearable.

If you like challenging oud fragrances then you will love the opening though for the rest of us just wait until the drydown.
