Reviews of Deeply

The splitting of a vanilla pod distilled as perfume. As the skin is cut open the pod reveals a sticky pulp full of tiny seeds that smell of the dark. Deeply recreates that effect – boozy, woozily fruity, moist. This is stuff that sticks its wet tongue up your nose. Pair that with a well-rounded amber (no jagged edges, a little sweet) and you’ve got a winning combination. It doesn’t get much deeper than that but that’s far enough.
Although quite heavy, it can’t seem to be encouraged to project; I find I end up wearing too much. The vanilla recedes in the late drydown which is a shame; one is left with dried fruits steeped in something ambery.

Deeply opens with a bold, spicy, ambery oud and rose accord with a discomforting sort of fecal/oily/boozy note underneath, herbal notes and some other Nasomatto stuff (I clearly the same clumsy and uninspired rubbery dry base of other works by Gualtieri). That fecal/oily/boozy note is not actually really like that, I can not manage to describe it better, it's more a sort of humid, rotting-stuff (rotting amber?) note, drowned in a cinnamon spiced blend. In no possible interesting, stimulating, provocative way – more like if this just was left rotting by mistake. Uninspiringly and non-creatively stinky and weird notes which mix with a glossy, trendy oud-ambery-floral accord, refined itself, a bit artificial but (mediocrely) pleasant. Perhaps it's me but something does not really work here.

Deeply is an extremely "polished" and "purified" woodsy resins rendition by Alessandro Gualtieri (the eccentric guru behind Nasomatto and Orto Parisi). The aroma is a velvety and ethereal mélange. I detect by soon resinous woodsy notes, woods and labdanum (minimal hints of oudh?). The density is ephemeral and the aroma morphs soon towards something waving in the air, orangy/rosey, spicy, waxy, almost candied and finally ambery-musky with an aerial consistency absolutely sparkling in the wind. I detect the subtle liqueur-like touch, joined by spicy orange, may be pepper and diaphane floral notes. The final aroma is absolutely exotic and transcendent. Extremely tenacious the perfume on my skin.

Deeply features strong woody notes as sandalwood, guaiac, cistus labdanum, birch, beeswax, and a powerfully hypnotic note you find also in Black Afgano, by the same author. The whole composition is shady, moist and sticky, explicitly sensual, roundening and getting even more liqueur-y (almost boozy) with the passing of time. It's pure parfum in concentration, so it lasts quite long, and even not being overly diffusive, radiates noticeably form the skin.

Opens as dark, caramelised marmalade and dried roses, but the amber comes in quickly. The references here are gourmand - spices and vanilla - but on my skin Deeply was more of an amber infused with rich, dark tobacco, dried fruit and rosebuds - if there's pepper in there, that might explain the roses. Deep but friendly: comforting without being too comfortable. Very nice indeed.
