As Sawira fragrance notes

Reviews of As Sawira

I have no idea what is going on with this one?? Too many notes!! It comes across as if a handful of ingredients have been chucked in a pot and then hope for the best. Poor projection and longevity. Not for me!!

I smell saffron in the opening, mixed with florals and a whole lot more boiling under the surface. Yes, it is sweet, yes, it is exotic smelling, and it does have a sandalwood note in the dry down along with patchouli. I like the dry down better than the opening to be honest. But, it starts to dissipate and the dry down didn't last quite long enough on me to appreciate it fully. I need to wear it again and spend more time with this one, then finish reviewing.

As Sawira is as complex as the length of the reviews you may see if you scroll down. A perfectly blended woody, animalic, floral fragrance with a strong composition and low sillage.

The low sillage, at least for me, works in it's advantage, and that's what makes the modern outtake of it. Otherwise this EDT would be unbearable. It's both strong and quiet and that's the beauty of this fragrance.

The very first high note is Absinthe, and that, combined with the woods, gives a very alcoholic pleasant first impression. As if one would smell an oaky whiskey. Quite elegant and mature.

The packaging and the bottle look exactly as the way this juice smells. Big thumbs up.

The opening consists of a mildly boozy saffron that is freshened up a bit by a bergamot side-kick. The drydown introduces a floral bouquet, with jasmine and carnation joined in the foreground on my skin by a lovely, quite bright rose; the latter has depth but is not if the dark and brooding variety in my skin. Soon a pleasant oud appears that is very well executed; whilst being typical and convincing Itnis not one of the heavy ouds; being very balanced it blends in well with the floral notes.

The base is a fairly standard vanilla with wood-amber-musk mix, but it is nicely done and the oud gives it an added ounce of character and variety. The performance is very good with moderate sillage, good projection nine hours of longevity on my skin.

In an age of a deluge of oud scents, some obvious aromachemical copycats attempt to cash in on this trend, in this case the oud is of a decent quality and intelligently incorporated into the whole. It is great for autumn, a rich scent with depth but less voluptuous than Halfeti for instance. 3.5/5.

Iím afraid Iíve only managed to test the EDT version of As Sawira on my skin and itís a bit of a letdown Ė poor projection mainly. Maybe the EDP is a marked improvement, but I can't really say.
That being said, I also take issue with the somewhat overblended nature of this beast Ė yes it is more rounded than its sibling, Levantium, and certainly sweeter, but the notes all seem to merge into one. Strangely, the oud is more subdued, I barely smell something oud-like. Instead there is a pleasing ambery woods and myrrh accord infused with an appealing davana-like fruity booziness and some resinous smokiness. The floral notes are sunk beneath the sweet ambery accord to my nose.
Damp squib territory Ė I like what I smell, there just isnít enough of it to truly satisfy.

A superb scent. Penhaligons calls it a "woody chypre", and it is oud-centric.
Starts with a green, spicy, oud chord. Immediately an exotic and classy note is established. The scent is rich yet dry, substantial but not heavy. The oud is handled brilliantly, conveying its distinctive nature but with charm, restraint and elegance. The florals soften and add a lovely element to the oud, and woody incense notes deepen the foundation.
Beautiful! Wears very well. Completely satisfying.
