About Cuba

The company say:

So close to America, yet so far away and exotic to most Americans – that contradiction made Cuba a perfect subject for the initial Destination Collection. And exotic is the perfect starting point for this fragrance. We focused on the rich, vibrant nightlife of Havana, warm, inviting and sensual, with lush notes of tobacco leaves, green sugar cane and Latin spices.

Reviews of Cuba

I was convinced this was vanilla. The mix of sugar cane and tobacco just makes vanilla. It's a beautiful vanilla fragrance, with a spicy side, and another musky side. Sillage is ok and longevity is very good especially for Demeter. It's cheap, so I'm not worried about overusing it. If you love vanilla, give it a try!

From the beginning the mix of tobacco and sugar is at the core of this composition. On my skin this is really a sugary scent, with the sweetness absolutely dominating the tobacco. As far as the tobacco is concerned, it is like a sweet, artificially flavoured somewhat boring pipe tobacco, with more ripe-fruity flavour than tobacco aroma. A gently spicy slightly raisiny note appears in the background in the middle phase. I am talking about phases for I do not get the usual top-heart-base sequence in this case.

As far as the performance in concerned, I get moderate sillage, good projection and - this is its best feature - an exceptional longevity of eleven hours. It is throughout the last couple of hours that the intrusive sweetness rescinds and then, with the tobacco not overwhelmed by it, this is quite pleasant; in the last hours this scent is at its best on my skin.

Overall the excellent performance does, in my eyes, not compensate for the excessive and unbalanced synthetic sweetness of this mixture, and so to me it is a neutral score. As far as sweet tobacco scents are concerned, Mugler's Pure Havane is much more convincing. 2/5
