About Blasted Bloom

One of two fragrances (the other being Blasted Heath), inspired by the extreme, wild and passionate British landscape; that moment where the Land meets the Sea and untamed energy explodes.

Blasted Bloom fragrance notes

Reviews of Blasted Bloom

This is a very fresh floral fragrance with a strong undercurrent of marine elements that intensify with time. It effectively supports the idea of flowers by the sea. The marine complex suggests the use of materials like Calone or Scentenal but they harmonise nicely and the effect is not too synthetic. Those who remember Faberge's New West will feel in familiar territory here, though this perfume is decidedly better.

Blasted Bloom should really be classified as unisex, not feminine. It puts me in mind of a 1960's men's fragrance called Signoricci which also had a sea-fresh, slightly geranium like quality. In today's terms it's in the same general category as Corvina Negra by Fueguia. The crisp freshness has a similar pungency to that found in, for example, Guerlain's Aqua Allegoria Herba Fresca or Humiecki and Graaf's Eau Radieuse. Somewhat harsh maybe, but that's in keeping with the name and the concept.

Penhaligon's newer introductions are a pretty mixed bag and I can take or leave most of them, but I actually bought some of this , which speaks for itself. It's a blooming masterpiece!

A pleasant, spring-like, somewhat innocuous scent. Berries are slightly sweet at first but not problematic. Green, cheerful, fresh -- open-field connotations. A light rose note in a green style (not heavy). Didn't notice any "untamed energy" exploding.

Beautifully blended soft rose and moss. This perfume would go splendidly well on a dashed-white-blonde girl.

The bush-leaf green opening is well balanced by a midly fruity forest berry accord and has an aquatic tilt to it at times. In the drydown I get a pleasant mix of a somewhat restrained rise with a nice hawthorn; the latter is quite well made but does reach the splendid height in hawthorn notes that e.g. Aubépine-Acacia reached. Still, it is a nice drydown.

The case is cedar based, with a somewhat generic moss impression raising up from time to time.

Performance is not bad with moderate sillage, adequate projection and six hours of longevity on my skin. Overall an agreeable spring country scent with a nice and at times original array of notes that are well-blended. 3/5
